Creating eye catching appealing graphics in Captivate

Hello
I currently use Captivate 5.5 and have access to Captivate 6. I create online training tutorials for our organisations computer programs. I am eager to make these more visually appealing to the end user and am unsure which is the best program to be able to do this in.
I am wondering if Illustrator would be worth a try? However from what I can see online, in order to get Illustrator graphics into Captivate you need Photoshop as well? I do not have Illustrator or Photoshop though can probably get them.
Would anyone have any suggestions on a program I can use to create creative appealing graphics that can be used (or imported) into Captivate?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions I really appreciate it.

Though many of us have Photoshop or Fireworks or some other similar graphics editing software in the toolset, the truth is that none of these necessarily make more "appealing graphics" than others.  The success or failure of the end result is entirely in the hands of the graphic artist or person using the application.
Rather than going out and spending a lot of dollars at the moment on software, I would suggest that you just start using PowerPoint to create simple graphics.  It's actually a pretty fair tool in this area.  Once you have created something that suits your project, you just group it, then right click on the graphic and choose Save As Graphic from the context menu.  I usually use PNG format for importing into Captivate.
I like to follow Tom Kuhlman's blog (even though he's with Articulate) because he has lots of good practical tips about how to create e-learning.
Here's a recent post that might be applicable to your question:

    Hi Anshul,
1.Drag and drop you BI query into your iview.
2.From the input port of your query drag and drop an start point.
3.From the output port of your query drag and drop an output table iview and select the fields which you want to display in the table.(ex. customer name or month).
4.From the out port of your table drag and drop an form view.(from the popup don't select any fields since we need to display output in a gauge).
5.goto form properties and add an gauge UI component.
6.Goto the properties of that gauge component and under "general"  tab click formula button near the "expression" field.
7.In that popup expand "data fields", under it expand "output table" and from it select the required field whose value you need to display on the gauge.(ex:Sales_value or Profit_Value).
8.click Ok and save the model and run it.
if the user selects some field in the table the gauge will show the corresponding sales or profit value.

  • More trouble with registering sapccmsr and EYE CATCH error

    Hello all,
I saw that this was a topic in an earlier thread. That thread was very helpful for troubleshooting, but it seems I have everything properly set up and patched, but I am still receiving the dreaded EYE CATCH error. The system is a Unicode dual-stack XI system. Here are the details:

    Best Regards,

    Hi,
I'd just like to make some additional comments.
The issue comes from the "jmon.dll" library which is non-unicode. You have to download the latest SAR archive of the SAP CCMS agents from the Service Marketplace and update your agents as well as your "jmon.dll" library by replacing the EXE and DLL files.
The agent files are located under:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTNACE>/exe
The "jmon.dll" library is located under:
    /usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTNACE>/j2ee/os_libs
Most probably you would have to shut down / restart the instance after you update the library so the changes take effect.
You can find the latest SAP CCMS agents SAR archive in SMP under:
    https://websmp109.sap-ag.de/swdc
    Then browse to:
    /SAP Support Packages/SAP Support Packages and Patches/Entry by Application Group/SAP NetWeaver/SAP NETWEAVER/SAP NETWEAVER <version>/Entry by Component/Application Server ABAP/SAP KERNEL <version> <32-BIT | 64-BIT> UNICODE/<OS>/#Database independent/ccmagent_<agent_version>.sar
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    Rosen

  • Can't create a silent install package for Captivate 7 with AAMEE

I'm trying to create a silent install package for Captivate 7. It doesn't appear that this works with AAMEE. Has anyone been able to do this? If it won't be possible with AAMEE, is there a way to do it with cmd line switches?

    Hi,
You would need to use Adobe Creative Cloud Packager to create a deployment package and deploy Captivate 7 as AAMEE does not supports Captivate 7.
Please refer the documentation available at - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/packager.html
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Sharad
P.S - Creative Cloud Packager would be deployed under your Adobe LWS account. In case you do not have it available in LWS, then please P.M me your email address and I will get that processed.
    Regards,

  • Creating a Magnifying Glass graphic

    Hello Everyone,
Anyone know how I could create a magnifying glass graphic using Adobe Photoshop?
I did do a search but it mostly came up with instructions or info on how to create one that'll also actually have a "magnifying" or "glassy" look to it.
While just I want to create a simple one, just containing a circle and an handle attached to it.
    Kinda like the following:
    http://www.iconfinder.com/icondetails/42437/32/alt_glass_magnifying_icon
And in case you're wondering why I don't use the above, I'd like to create one with my own colors.
I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

    Noel Carboni wrote:
The advice given above is great, but I'd like to toss out another idea:  Search the web for stuff like:
    magnifying glass Photoshop file
You turn up some very nice free PSD file downloads that you can open and see how the designers did their stuff.  The first match with the above search in Google nets you a very nice example from psdgraphics.com.
    -Noel
I'll second that. It always amazes me what you can find if you look. There must be a brush set for every contingency, for instance, and almost as many Shapes. I bet there is even a font out there that incudes a magnifying glass!

  • Ray tracing engine: Create Shadow Catcher

    Hello everybody!
I am currently experimenting with the new 3D Raytracing engine in AE. Its pretty sweet so far, although i miss the option of masking out parts of a scene (if anybody has a tip on this, let me know)
However, I am also struggling with using a shadow catcher. In the old classic 3D engine, you could make a solid a shadow catcher layer with some tricks. This does not work in the raytracing engine because you need the layer styles for this.
I have heared that there is a 'create shadow catcher layer' in the new 3D Camera Tracker, but i need it outside of the 3D Camera Tracker. Is there such an option, or a way to make it myself?

I don't see an option (at least not in CS5.5) that allows you to Accept Shadows ONLY.  Alt-clicking does not make it possible either.  There is Cast Shadows ONLY of course, and you can use a copy of a 3d layer, using this option, than maybe a transfer mode (like Multiply) to get the shadows.  But otherwise, I don't understand what you mean here?

  • How to create a rollover button effect in Captivate 7?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to Captivate 7 and am curious to know how I can create a rollover state for a SmartShape button. Basically, let's say I have a SmartShape being used as a button. What I want is to have the button have a glow effect and a shadow effect each time the mouse is hovered over it. Is there an easier way than having two objects on the slide -- one as the normal state and one the mouse hoever image. What I'm thinking is that the mouse hovered state image will have it's 'Visible in Output' set as unchecked and I can use an Advanced Action to show the object on mouse hover. Perhaps I can have the mouse hovered state image as a rollover SmartShape too?
Nonetheless, this looks like too much work. If I have 10 clickables on the page for which I want rollover effects, I would need to have 10 additional objects with their rollover states -- just seems like too much, but perhaps that's the Captivate way. Or I am I missing the obvious?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sean

Most people would say the easiest way to achieve what you are talking about would be to just create your own custom image button in a graphics editor and give the Over state image having the glow effect that you want.
If you decide to go that route, this tutorial describes the process of creating an image button:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate/create-custom-image-buttons
Another possibility is that you can use the Infosemantics Event Handler widget to trigger an Apply Effect action and use the Glow filter as the effect.
However, this may require some tweaking since it's not that easy to time effects that are applied via an advanced action.

    HI
i am trying to copy and paste graphics to a demonstration created in Captivate 5 from a Powerpoint and i am unable to do so, i have to save the graphic as a Jpeg file and they insert it as an image,
in the past i was able to copy and paste graphics from PP to an existing demo without a problem.
can anyone tell me if there is something i need to change in the properties to get this resolved?

  • Is there a way to create a web link page in Captivate 7?

I would like to create a source page for training that includes web resources with multiple links, but when the slide stops playing the links no longer work. At this time the links are on a PowerPoint slide and pulled into Captivate, but I have also tried it using buttons in Captivate. A work around would be to extend the time out 15 minutes or longer for the slide, but I am hoping to find a cleaner solution.
    Any ideas?

Just ran a sample powerpoint slide with three hyperlinked webpages through Cp7- worked with a click box pausing the slide and still worked after allowing the slide to play out and end the presentation.
Not sure what could be causing your page and text links to behave differently - if the only actions on this page are the links and a click box, I've never seen the links go inactive before. Will continue to poke around and see if theres any other answers lurking about.

  • Scorm enabled content created in a trial version of Captivate 7

I am in the process of getting a subscription to captivate 7 through my school and have created some content to test in my Moodle LMS. When I go to view the content, I cannot view it. A window appears with the project skin but no content. Is this due to the content being created in a trial version?
    Thanks,
    dan

OK. If it's not even running in SCORM Cloud then something is definitely awry.  Captivate normally runs very well in SCORM Cloud.
Is this HTM/SWF output or HTML5?  That's something you haven't yet specified.
Was this course created from scratch in Cp7 or was it upgraded from a previous Cp version?  If so, which version.
Have you tried copying all slides and pasting them into another blank Cp7 project file of the same dimensions?  That sometimes strips out any corruption due to objects that don't have unique item identifiers.

  • Need help creating horizontal scrollbar in graphic timelime (built in AI)!

I am trying to use Catlyst to build an interactive scrollbar on a graphic timeline build in Adobe Illustrator,  I want to be able to scroll from one end of timeline to the other.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Can you post a screenshot of the timeline you are trying to convert. It will help in accurate response.
You would probably need to do it in two step:
    - Have the graphic timeline converted into Datalist element, and make the data repeatable.
    - Create a Horizontal Scrollbar component and add it to the datalist component (timeilne)
          - If you have the Horizontal scrollbar designed, then select it and convert it to a Horizontal Scroll component (using the HUD - the black overlay that comes up when you select a graphic element)
          - After conversion you would need to define the parts of the H. Scrollbar (Track, thumb, right button, left button). Note: It helps if you designed your H. Scrollbar with these components in AI/PSD.
    - Now come back to the artboard, and select the H. Scrollbar by clicking on it.
    - Cut the H. Scrollbar
    - Click the Datalist element, and go to Edit Parts (in HUD)
    - Paste the H . Scrollbar inside the Datalist element. This will attach the scrollbar to the data.
    Hope this helps,
    Fu

  • How do I create a typing test in Adobe Captivate?

Does anyone know of a widget or some other way that I can create a typing test in Captivate to evaluate a learner's typing speed and accuracy?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I spend a fair amount of time working to learn some Flash and haunted some Flash coder groups on the set. I think I remember seeing some Flash typing practice code that you could buy. If you can get the fla files perhaps some tweaking could be done so that it can talk to Captivate for some score reporting to the instructor. I don't know enough about that sort of thing to be sure, but it would be worth exploring.
I did a search and there were sevreal hits. THis one looks interesting - http://active.tutsplus.com/tutorials/games/create-a-complete-typing-game-in-flash-with-as3 / . If you have the eLearning Suite, you have Flash available to give it a shot with. I have been gradually learning a little Flash, nothing fancy, mostly drag and drop sorts of things. It isn't too hard to learn, but you need consident time. I get spurts here and there and that has slowed my learning curve down. I start figuring something out and then I get slammed with a high workload and by the time I can get back in to the Flash I forgot much of what I learned and have to relearn it again. sigh. It has a lot of power though and it is always worth learning the tools that make up the tools we use such as Flash, Captivate, Muse, Edge, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc. I hope you are like me and you absolutely love the thrill of figuring out how to get an idea to a nice looking and great working product for students. Too many cool tools and ideas and too little time. lol

  • What are easy ways to create these effects or graphics?

    Hello,
I am trying to create a logo for a new business whose product is electronic cleaning cloths for iPads, computer monitors, or most things digital.
Therefore, I am trying to find out ways of creating motifs or design elements, parts of which I might incorporate in the logo. Thus, I would like to know how to create the following digital looks. There are a lot of questions here. I don't expect anyone to answer them all, just what you comfortably know and whatever is convenient for you to spare a few minutes to explain and/or show.
    Thanks!  : )
    1. How can I create lines like these that glow?
    2. How do I create the "stitching" or dotted line pattern in the circles and rectangle below.
    3. How do I create the circuitry lines with their circlular terminals (or do I just use pen tool in Illustrator CS5?
    4. Finally, how can I create these circuitry lines and shapes?

A word of caution here.  Yes, all of the effects you are showing can be done, either in Photoshop or Illustrator.  I'm thinking gradient mesh and blends for the glows.  A dotted line could be created in the stroke palette.  But, just because you can do it, doesn't mean you do it.  Logos are typically very basic so they can be implemented across a large area of application ( i.e., signs, vehicle graphics, letterhead and stationery, advertising, and internet applications ).  If you were to create a sophisticated graphic effect, it would not hold-up in all of the potential uses and surely would not be rendered consistently.  You will get vendor's who complain about this or that regarding your artwork.  Try to think basic lines in Black and White that could easily be reproduced on an office copier.  Later on, you can use the basic logo in a more sophisticated application where it would be appropriate.
