Creating Fades

When i select the fade tool and try making a fade in a region it doesnt work...also , i saw in a video that you can make fades with the pointer tool by shift+control dragging out of a region creating fades, but this did not work either...why is this happening? is there a setting i have turned off or what? really frustrating.

never mind. apparently you cant fade out midi regions other than using automation

  • Logic is randomly creating fades..............

    hi,
    crazy annoying problem. I notice that when I start editing audio in logic, copying and pasting, dragging audio around in the arrange window, Logic starts to create fades, even when the regions are not touching. Also, Logic will play audio that is not in the arrange window. In other words, It will play an entire audio file even though that file has been cut or shortened in the arrange window. Needless to say, I have audio playing all over the place that shouldn't be there, and fades messing up levels of audio because of the random places Logic is placing these fades. Very strange. I can work around it by creating alot of audio tracks and just moving the copied files to separate tracks, but in some cases, the extra audio will still play. The only real workaround thus far has been to delete the file that's acting strange, and re-insert it directly from my audio window. Then Logic seems to deal with it properly.
    Crazy. Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED.
    thanks

    that's interesting. Here's an example of what I'm doing. Let's say I sang 10 leads vocals of a chorus, and then I created one "comp" of the "best of" each take. Now I have one chorus, on one track with a bunch of regions, some overlapping, but some don't overlap. Now..... if I select that entire chorus, which will include ALL of the new regions I put together, in other words, the "comp", and click/hold/and drag to another location, shouldn't that "comp" look exactly the same no matter where I put it on the arrange page? And shouldn't it sound exactly the same way? I've been using Logic for many years, left for a while because I had just bought a dual opteron [that's for another post ;)] and have been using Cubase sx, Nuendo, and sonar for the past few years. I'm thinking that one thing that has never changed in any of these programs is that U can cut audio regions, or make them smaller, and U should hear what U see on the arrange page. I'm also thinking that when U select/click/hold whatever key that particular program uses for copying/and then drag, U should be able to move that particular part that U just selected, anwhere in your arrangement. this is real basic stuff here. I'm just thinking that this is a bug, but now that I think I explained it more clearly, I'm also thinking since I haven't been here in Logic for a few years, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I spoke to tech support at Apple, and they had no clue.
    they didn't think the behavior was normal.
    anyway, lemmeno.
    thanks

  • How can I create Fade-in or Fade-out on Click of Button?

    I'm using Encore DVD 2.0. My DVD starts with a video on a timeline, and then jumps to a main menu with a motion background and music. The main menu links to a couple videos on timelines.
    I'd like to do 2 things:
    1) When the user clicks a button on the main menu to bring them to a video on a timeline, I'd like the main menu itself to fade out before jumping to the timeline. How can I make this happen in Encore? I of course can't create this fade-out in the editing of the video, since the user could possibly click the button at any point throughout the video.
    2) In transitioning from the initial timeline to the main menu, I would like the main menu to fade in. Is this possible, and if so, how can I make this happen in Encore?
    Thank you for your help.

    > I'm trying to understand what you mean. Did you mean that I can make my entire menu part of the background motion video? How would the buttons work? Is there a way to create invisible buttons in Encore?
    Sorry for the confusion - I didn't write that as clearly as I should have done.
    Right now, in Encore, you
    i cannot
    use "Buttons Over Video" as it is not in the feature set. What I was trying to say is that a feature request might get this functionality added in a later build. We can but hope, anyway.
    What I can recommend you try is using After Effects or Premiere Pro to create your Motion Menu, and set things up so that the appearance of the actual buttons is delayed to the point you want them to appear at.
    Another solution - this will give you minimal delays (should be very close to seamless on the final DVD) is this:
    1 - Intro to Main Menu.
    Create your intro to the main menu, and set this not as a timeline, but as a motion menu. Set the End Action of this to go straight to a static/still copy of the final frame from the Motion Intro.
    2 - Main Menu
    This will be a still menu, with or without Audio. If you use Audio it will need to loop though.
    3 - Outro from Main Menu to timeline.
    Fake this as follows.
    Method A.
    Create the outro to the timeline and set this as another motion menu - not a timeline - with it's end action set to automatically play the main film. The outro will presumably fade to black, so any transition will be un-noticeable.
    Method B
    Fake the outro by adding it to the start of the main timeline.
    I think Method A will be your best bet here.

  • How to create fade effect?

    I use PSE8, and I am trying to find somewhere in the menu where I can create a fade effect on an image in order to use it as a background image in a website I am creating.  The Help menu was no help at all; all it did was to explain what it was but not how to do it. Thanks.

    Please provide more information about the effect that you are after. Are you looking for a vignette?
    Can you post a link to a site where this is used?

  • Creating Fades- HELP!

    I am trying to create a fade in but it does not seem to be working. I have zoomed in on the region and when I select the tool and click-drag across the audio region nothing happens. According to my instructions it should highlight the region, showing the fade in.
    Am I missing something?

    Are you able to do it with Track Automation & Keyframes?
    That's the workaround I've found to keep me consistent in using different DAW's/NLE's. Seems like they all offer different options for working at the Media Level but all give you the option of Track Automation & Keyframes.

  • Creating Fade In/Fade Out

    Does anyone know what apple uses to create "sample" MP4's that we hear in iTunes when we click on a song to "listen to". Do they have "sample" cuts already available, or do they use software to create a sample of the song on the fly?
    I recently converted several clients CD libraries to MP3's. They sell these songs on their own websites. I would like to create 30 second samples of these, and have the software to do it. But . . . as there are approx. 900 songs to do, I'd like to be able to batch automate the process if possible.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    The only idea I have for you is to load the song using Garage Band. Then if you are familiar with this program you can use the "Scissors" you can cut the song down to what you want, length wise, and then you can use the "arrow down" tool to fade the sound in and out. After that you can resave those as samples and then upload to any place you need. As for the automater im not sure how it would be possible to do all that, so its gonna take a little sweat to get this done. I hope this is what you could be looking for if not sorry for wasting your time reading this.

  • Why Logic create fades while saves

    I´m tired of this;
    Every time I save, Logic creates or optimizes hte fades and I lose many lots of minutes while this is happenning?
    Is ther a way to turn of this message/option. I save almost every movement I do, but now with Flex I can make 2 or 3 editions and lost 3 or 5 minutos while save and logic creates or optimizes the fades.
    Any help??

    Have you considered using inbuilt parallelism support built into Azure storage client library to upload large files or data in parallel? client library takes care of all the corner cases here so you do not have to worry about it. You can get the latest from
    nugget here
    Here's a sample code snippet on what you would need to do.
    // Create an options object that uploads in parallel where parallelism is N (N=8 here) times the number of processor count on the client machine.
    var blobRequestOptions = new BlobRequestOptions { ParallelOperationThreadCount = Environment.ProcessorCount * 8 };
    // Use options object when uploading a large file
    var blockBlob = container.GetBlockBlobReference("largeFileToUpload.txt");
    await blockBlob.UploadFromFileAsync(
    @"d:\pathToFile\largeFileToUpload.txt",
    FileMode.Open,
    accessCondition: null,
    options: blobRequestOptions,
    operationContext: null)

  • Cannot Create Fades.

    I cannot make fades with the fade tool. I need to fade out an audio file, and I tried using the fade tool with the instructions given in the manual, (page 343.) When I click and drag using the fade tool Logic selects the audio file that I am trying to apply a fade on, but does not make a fade on the file. I have made lots of fades before, but the tool just doesn't seem to be working.
    I am using the latest version of Logic 8.0.1 (1474.12)

    There have been reported issues of graphic abnormalities regarding the fade files. I have experienced these first hand from time to time.
    So, is the fade there, just not visible? Try dragging it out to something really obvious... do you hear it, but just don't see it?
    What happens when you make a cut on the audio region, anywhere, and then try applying the fade at the end again?
    If that's not it, do you have other fades in the song? The fade files might have become corrupted. Try trashing the fades folder found in the song folder. New fade files will be generated when you hit play again.
    Also, check the permissions on that AIFF file. I don't think that would cause this, but you never know. make sure it's set to "Read & Write".
    Another possible "fix" would be to export the guitar track as a new file, and then re-import it back into the song.
    Off track... noticed your in Nashville, as am I. And I grew up in Pittsburgh, so I was curious as to why you choose that city as your forum name...

  • Is there a way to create a fade only for the first loop?

    I have a loop (Modern Guitar Rock 04), which I've extended out so it repeats four times. I select the Fade Tool and X-Fade for drag. I then drag just in front of the loop and onto it, which creates a fade. However, this also creates fades at the beginning of the repeating loops. Is there a way to create a fade only for the first loop?

    The loop function always repeats the same region so of course the fade is also copied. So option+drag the original region to make a (non clone) copy, fade the first region and loop the second one (which you just copied).

  • Problem With Fade Effect For JTextField

    Hello Friends !
    I am putting a 'bounty' of 10 Duke dollars
    for the clever clogs who can help me out !
    I want to create a 'fade in' effect when a
    textfield has the focus and a 'fade out'

    The code for what I have done so far is
    listed below, but it leaves nasty 'artifacts'
    behind when painting.
    regards, Asad.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class RunProgramAgain{
    public static void main(String[] args){

    setBackground(new Color(RED, GREEN, BLUE, alpha));

  • How to create stereo from multitrack library file?

    Hi, I am using some of the sound effects and music form the Library of sounds that comes with STP 3. Many of these are 4 or six tracks, but I would be happier to use the file as a two-track stereo file, since that is much easier to create fades, etc. Is there a quick way to convert these files to stereo with STP or do I need to import them into a different program like Peak?
    Thanks, Bob

    I don't have an answer, but you might get a better response in the scripting forum.

  • Steady audio fades

    Is there any way of getting FCP to create even-paced audio fades? When I create fade-outs with keyframes, they always begin the fade slowly then rapidly dip down to silence (and vice versa on fade-ups). On the whole I like fade-outs to reduce volume more evenly, allowing the viewer time to hear the quiet end of the fade rather than rushing it out.
    I can see the shape of the fade in the Viewer display suggests the start-slow-then-drop-quickly effect, and I've been told by an audio fiend friend that this fade 'shape' is to do with FCP fades being based on 'root mean square' principles, but I'm not just talking about the way the display looks: I want to find a way of changing the way the fade sounds. I've searched the manual and menus - it's hard to believe that there is no way of changing this.

    I used a cross-fade to silence, as Kennedy suggested (the 0dB variety, as the +3dB boosts levels on the same principle as the default fade). That helped.
    Then I took the plunge of using the Audio Mixer, with User Preferences>Editing>Record Audio Keyframes set to 'All'. It takes a bit of getting used to, and a mouse is not as easy to control as a proper physical fader, but you have nothing between you and what you want but yours ears and your skill - and you can edit the keyframes afterwards to smooth out any kinks.
    And sometimes I got what I wanted by just using four keyframes instead of two, to roughly control the rate of change of the fade. After all, unless it's a completely unchanging sound, the existing variation in levels of the recorded sound will mask any minor variations in speed during the fade.
    It taught me something about the perception of fades, though, which I will take the liberty of sharing with you. For fades that you want to be noticed - as opposed to fades which are just there to stop a cut jarring the ear - the default fade may be correctly linear as far as physics is concerned, but I perceive it as a too-slow beginning and a too-fast end. We tend to notice things that change more than things that don't, so for the viewer the fade only starts when they notice the sound dropping (or starting, for a fade-in). So a to-be-noticed fade should start relatively fast, then dwell on the bit in the middle, once the viewer has started listening out for the change in volume. Having started to listen for it, they - or at least, I - will want to follow it down to the very end, not have it whipped away abruptly.

  • Fade Image acts not correct

    Hi,
    I've the new Fireworks CS3 and find out that Fade Image (
    Commands > Creative > Fade Image) dosn't work correct
    like in my old FW 8.
    When I want to fade an image from left to right and select
    the seccond square click OK, Fireworks will fade the image from top
    to bottom. Instead of fading it from top to bottom (exact from top
    to the last pixel on bottom) it fades the image about 50% over it
    till the middle of the image. Except the circular fade every
    command acts not accurate.
    I guess that there is something wrong with my FW or the "Fade
    Image.swf", because nobody seems to have same problems with it and
    I have read that
    somebody
    in this forum has written "I took the graphic, Create / Fade Image.
    Looks good."
    So what could it be? Maybe CS3 hasn't updated its prefernces
    or something else correctly.
    I have uploaded the
    SWf
    file, so someone could please look inside?
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks in advanced.

    suntrop,
    Make sure you have the latest verions of FW CS3 (9.0.1.1213).
    The
    problem has been corrected.

  • Fades

    I can't figure out any kind of pattern to this, but it definitely frustrates me. Why won't logic let you do fades using the fade tool sometimes??
    Occasionally it does, and occasionally it doesn't. Its super frustrating. For instance, I'm working on some SFX stuff for a video, and its not letting me use the fade tool to create a fade on a certain region. Is this a bug? Sometimes it lets me fade, and sometimes it doesnt. Frustrations. . .

    I'm honestly not sure where you guys got the whole apple loops, CAF files from my post. . . but, nowhere in my post did I say i was using CAF or apple loops or acidized files or anything. I'm talking about AIFF files my friends. I wouldn't ask THAT dumb of a question : )
    These are tracks i've recorded into Logic. . . AIFF files. Sometimes they don't allow me to create fades. It usually happens in the front of the region. However, once I fade the back, the front appears, but in a very generalized appearance. Its very strange.
    So basically, I'll fade the front end of a region (the leftmost section) and get nothing. . . then fade the back (the RIGHT most section) and then all of my fades will magically appear.
    I'm not that much of a n00b to be trying to fade beatmapped loops and CAFs and whatnot.
    ONE BAR. . . I've got ONE BAR next to my name. . . means I know something at least. . . one bar's worth of stuff I reckon.
    : ) just bustin' your chops.
