Creating Fixed New Events

I am using iCal to build a call schedule for a small group of Doc's. I know there are specific programs for this but they are expensive and made for much larger groups. I had a program for years that was ideal for my purposes called Day Maker (I believe). The one feature that I miss the most was the ability to create a event type that went in to the Menu. This avoided a lot of very repetitive typing. Example Doc #1 : On Call, Doc #1 : Off, Doc #1 : Office, Doc #1 surgery. All I would have to do is click on the day, pull down the menu, select the item and it was there. Never touched a keyboard all done with the mouse. Click, click, click and done. I am spoofing iCal now by setting up To Dos with the info and dragging them to the calendar. Works but it really clutters up my To Do menu. Is there a better way? Could I do this with one or more AppleScripts? I really hate typing the same thing over and over, and I am not the fast. I am looking for ideas and suggestions.

Well, it is of course easy to have a script or scripts that will make new events and set them to have any details you like. The problem then is where to put the new events, 'cos I don't think there is any way for the script to know what date you are currently looking at. You could have it prompt for date/time details. Below is a basic script for adding events.
You would put the script or scripts in Library/Scripts/Applications/iCal in your home directory to have them available only when iCal is the front-most application.
AK
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "iCal"
set DocEvent to make new event at end of events of calendar "Urgent"
tell DocEvent
set start date to current date
set summary to "Doc 1"
end tell
end tell</pre>

When I create a new event in my calendar in my local time zone, my invitees receive it in GMT. Why how can this be fixed?

    Greetings jsubacus,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your calendar events are appearing in GMT on your calendar in Yosemite. This was a fix in iOS 8.2 for iCloud calendars. I would suggest that you make sure all of your devices are updated to the current software release to help resolve the issue.

  • Can't create a new event in iCal

Odd thing is happening in iCal when creating a new event, clicking on the plus button creates a new calendar and not an event.
When clicking on the day and from the pop up menue clicking new event I get an error message relating to mail?
Doesn't happen all the time but very frustrating when in does. Is there a fix?

Odd thing is happening in iCal when creating a new event, clicking on the plus button creates a new calendar and not an event.
This is normal. You can create a new event by double-clicking within the day in any of the views (in Day or Week view double-click on the time for the event): select the calendar you want to add to in the sidebar first.

  • IPhoto didn't create a new event for my last import

I imported some pics from my DSLR via an SD card just now.  The photos are visible if I select "Last Import", but not otherwise.  iPhoto has always defaulted to creating a new event each time I import (one for each date on the imported photos).  I haven't changed any settings whatsoever, but I can't see these photos anywhere except "Last Import".
Any clue why??  And how to fix it?
    Tks!
    Butch

If the Photos are under 'Last Import' or 'Last N Months' then they are in the Library somewhere, just not where you are expecting them to be. We know this as both Last Import and 'Last N Months' are not places, just listings of elements in the the Library.
The two most common reasons that they can't be found is either an incorrect date on the camera or the Sorting (View Menu -> Sort Photos - or Sort Events, as appropriate) has changed.
Quick route to find them: Right-click on one of the images in Last Import and select 'Show Event'. This will bring you to the image in the Library.

  • How do I create a new event entry for a specific calendar?

In my iMac Calendar app, I have created a few calendars for different functions.    But every time I try to create a new event entry for a specific calendar, the app seems to prefer a different calendar instead by default.   I cannot enter events in other calendars.   Is there a way to do this?   In previous versions, I would highlight the particular calendar I wanted to work with and the entry would go into that calendar.   Thanks!

You don't.  Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • How can I create a new event without it automatically being an all-day event?

When I create a new event in iCal, it automatically creates an all-day event.  (By create, i mean double-clicking in the month view.)  Is there any way to change it back to hourly when you create an event, like in Snow Leopard?  Although this is easy to get around, it's just annoying as I rarely create all day events.

I was really frustrated by this change in Lion as I prefer to use the month view and I hate the way it defaults to an all day event.  So I was very pleased to find this solution in the Mac OS X Hints.  Simply type "Dinner at 6 pm" and it enters "Dinner" at 6 pm for one hour.  If you want anything other than an hour, put "6 - 8 pm" (or whatever period you want.  Brilliant.  Just wish Apple figured out a way to tell me that without having to search the communities here for an answer.
    Thanks Ferd II.

  • Why do my events change in the day view, when I create a new event? (iCal for iPad 2)

Every time I create a new event in the day view in iCal on iPad, the other events (which I created before for the same day) change their starting and/or their ending time.
    Please help!

    monkeyde,
You are getting entagled in the two confusing meanings of the term pixels, namely as a unit identical to points and equalling 1/72 inch, and the basic component of raster images (and effects).
You can read on in this very recent thread:
Is there a way to get Illustrator to know how many pixels are in an inch?

Assuming you're creating this event to place in your calendar, and assuming this calendar is shared with your iMac and iPad using iCloud, might the calendar be restricted on your iPhone?

  • Create a new event in a calendar

    Hello,
I have some calendars but I cannot create a new event just clicking on
    a day.
I can do it from the ribbon, events, new event, but it's not as convenient.
Do you know, what could be wrong?
    EDIT:
I can add that the problems shows up with Internet Explorer (version 11). With Firefox it works fine. Besides, it is  connected to AAM. Indeed, if use as an url Alternate Access Mapping I cannot click on the day, while if I access the site with the
    server name all works fine.

    Hi,
As mentioned by Cameron there are couple of known issues with 64 bit version of IE,
try with 32 bit version of IE also,  Please also try adding your SharePoint site AAM URL
    in trusted sites  zone
    from IE11.
    Thanks,

    Hi Somil,
see the attached picture as an example.
If you use LabVIEW 2009, then you should be able to insert the picture into your vi, to get the code.

  • Hello, starting with today I have a strange problem: all events are correctly shown in the finder but in FCP-X there`s`none and every time I open it creates a new event. What is wrong?

Hello, starting with today I have a strange problem with Final Cut Pro X: all events are correctly shown in the finder but in FCP-X there`s`none and every time I open it creates a new event. What is wrong?

    Here`s the screenshot.
    But anyway:
The drive is Makintosh HD from my Macbook and it is shown in the event mediathek and in the projects. Since I`ve recognized this problem I installed FCPX again and consequently the event and project directory created by FCPX is where it should be and it shows all the test events including it`s files.
So what happens? Opening FCPX you see only one event and that a new empty event. All previous events are not shown there even if you can see them in the finder. So if you import again the clips they are in this new event library. After closing correctly FCPX and reopening there again is nothing than an new and empty event. What it does is that it recognized that i.e. there are events with previous numbers and so it creates an new one with the next available counting number.
If you want to open one event from the finder it by clicking to the file it opens FCPX but it says it cannot open the clicked file.
