  • Windows failed to apply the Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings - the data was invald (event ID: 1085)

    Hi All,
I have a large domain and a long list of websites that are trusted using the following group policy setting:
Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer> Internet Control Panel > Security Page >
    Site to Zone Assignment List
On all (XP/vista/win7) workstations across the domain I'm getting the following error:
    Log Name:  System
    Source:  Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy
    Event ID: 1085
    Task Category: None
    Level: Warning
Keywords:   Description: Windows failed to apply the Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings. Internet Explorer Zonemapping settings might have its own log file.
There's nothing either side of this error in the log that shines any more light on the issue.
I know which group policy object its applying these settings but cant find which of the entries in the site to zone assignment list is causing this issue. I looked in the
Group Policy/Operational log but all I see is the following entry which says "completed" but is logged as an error:
After some research I'm guessing that the issue is an incorrect wild-card. This is what my trusted sites list looks like (with names removed of course):
    http://servername.*
    *.internaldomain.com.au
    *.domain.com.au
    *.domain.*
    *.externaldomain.com
    *.domain.inernaldomain.com.au
    *.domain.*
    *.domain/name.*
    *.domain.inernaldomain.au*
    *.domain.com
Is there something obviously incorrect here?
Does anyone know where I could find an article that clearly outlines the acceptable wildcard syntax for the
"Security page\ site to zone assignment list" group policy?  Ive read every forum post, website and blog I could find on the internet but nothing is clear and I wasn't able to find an MS document that steps it out. I've also changed the
existing list a number of times based on blog posts etc but had no luck.
    **Please Note**
I dont want to change to a different method or have an intellectual debate re why I would have these sites/wildacrd/policy set. I'm really looking to see what entry is invalid and where the documentation is for this policy setting so i can make sure they are
    always correct in the future.
thanks in advance for your time and assistance

    UPDATE:
I disabled the original policy and created a new one with only one trusted site address in it. Then I logged into a clean test machine did some testing. What I found after a few hours of testing was; regardless of the site that I have listed in group policy
The HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Current version\Internet Settings\Zone Map Key registry entry is
always updated with that entry on the workstation. So the workstation's registry always updates the key with
*.sitename.com per the site that I have set in GP
If I run GPUPDATE /FORCE over and over again, on the same machine, under the same user account, using the same DC I get:
Failure, Failure, Failure, Success, Success, Success, Failure etc
I wasn't able to determine any pattern to the failures, I tried stopping some of the processes on that machine but didn't find anything that would make it fail/succeed reliably.
There is no AV or firewalls installed on my test machine
Anyone have any more ideas?  I think I might install filemon and try to capture some more data unless there's a better tool?

Yes, and that's straight from my Microsoft TAM. As long as you include an asterisk inside those site-to-zone mappings, you'll continue to see them. The key is whether or not they're working. In my environment, I've seen complete success using the
    http://*.domain.com, or
https://*.domain.com, no matter if the site is http://www.domain.com or
http://milk.does.a.body.good.domain.com. Despite the success, we continue to see the errors. It's much the same as Group Policy Preferences where you can apply a setting once, or repeatedly. If you apply
something repeatedly and it's already set, lookout for some complaints in the application log. It really is annoying. There's potential to play with the logging levels, but I'll admit that my experience ranks as "novice" in this specific section of group policy.
This link might get the creative juices flowing:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2008/07/18/enabling-group-policy-preferences-debug-logging-using-the-rsat.aspx
I see you've already read a number of articles including "a test case for troubleshooting those event IDs"... I sympathize with your efforts. I despise warnings and errors that I can't solve or don't want to see, but I've researched a number of them to death
and found that many are simply "normal". Uggg... I hope this helps, but please take my advice, as with anyone else's out here, with caution. I've seen some crazy recommendations. I saw a recommendation to install SQL on a DHCP server to get failover clustering
up and running. I hope the guy asking for help didn't listen to that one! : ) - josh

  • L655 Windows failed to start up

Have the satellite L655 Laptop and i get this.  Windows failed to start up. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:  1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2.choose your language settings and then click next. 3.click "repair your computer."  If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.  File: \windows\ststem32\winload.exe  Status: 0xc000000f  Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.   I ordered the disk from Toshiba windows 7 I have a boot disk that I created it will boot from that disk but not the recovery disk from them,  but the computer does not load the CD. F1 and F8 do not work only F2 and F12

Can't tell from that which discs you have. You should boot to the Windows Recovery Environment.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
    Try things in this order.
       Startup Repair
       System Restore
At the command prompt, run this.
          chkdsk c: /r
Always tell us which Satellite L655 you have. There is a label on the bottom.

  • Boot Up Error 0xc0000034 - windows failed to start

I came back from work yesterday and found my laptop displaying a black screen saying that "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" and to repair using the windows 7 installation disc.
However windows was pre-installed on my machine so i dont have a disc. I left it on during the day so i can only assume it restarted due to an auto update.
I only got this computer the other day and i really dont need this hassle.
    Any ideas??

    > However windows was pre-installed on my machine so i dont have a disc.
You didnt receive any disks because there was preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery Disk creator.
This allows you to create recovery disk which would help to restore the OS.
But usually there should be a HDD recovery option too.
    Try this:
Press F8, choose Repair my Computer, HDD recovery.
If this will not help, then you will need the recovery disk. You can order this here:

  • F11 Recovery don`t work - error Windows failed to start

After downloading MS updates don`t work administrator password. I try F11 Recovery and see black screen: windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause ...
    File: \windows\system32\winload.efi
    status: 0x0000001
Info: The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required is missing or contains errors.
    ?Any ideas?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    1) Maybe I misunderstood something, but I thought that the function f11 restores preinstalled Windows from the hidden partition on the disk.
    2) I created a boot disk with Windows 8 Pro on USB and tried to boot from it through Boot manager. Beyond the first installation screen did not go.
    3) As for your advice to contact the dealer, so I did yesterday. The tablet was taken away for examination by 20 days...
It's very sad, it was a gift to my father for Christmas.
I work for a long time as the system administrator and am dealing with HP servers. It is a pity that such a reputable company can not provide the quality of their tablets.
I advised my daughter Windows tablet, but she wished to have iPad. Now I see that she was right - a year she has no problems with it. Windows tablet - this is not the best choice for a child or an old man.

  • Windows Failed To Start

    Hi,
I own a Lenovo Ideacentre All-in-one A700. OS is Windows 7 64 Bit. Recently I did a bluetooth software update which got stuck in between and I restarted the system. Ever since that, I get a message from Windows Boot Manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
    2. Choose your language settings and click next.
    3. Click "repair your computer"
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I do not have the OS CD nor have I created the system restore disks. What I do have is the backup of all my data in drive D. Now, when I contacted lenovo through e-mail, they asked me to use One Key Recovery (OKR) and repair my system. I tried using that but then when I tried to take the backup of my files I get a message saying "The Image file is not valid." I did a bit of research in lenovo forums and found out that those whose OKR version is older than 7 face this issue. I checked up my OKR version and found it to be 3.
Here is the link : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/HintsandTips/hints_show_13263616724030.html
I have tried all the other options to load my OS including safe mode, safe mode with command prompt and last known good configuration but it comes back to the same screen. I am also unable to update my OKR to the latest version. I have a lot of important files located in my system. Now, can someone please help/guide me as to what I should do in order to use the backup created already in D drive and restore my system.
Thanks for all the Help !!

Well sorry to say this, but if you look that error up in Microsoft or a internet search it means the HDD is bad.
The only thing I can recommend is to try and take the HDD out and pull the Data from another PC or boot Linux and see if you can copy your Data that way.
Hopefully you can still save your data.
    Good luck.

  • Windows failed to start. winload.exe corrupt

Been having a few problems with my Equius so decided to boot, do F8, and do a toshiba system restore.
Started up, and began formatting the disk. All of a sudden it blue screened.
Trouble is now I cant even boot that far to get the recovery/restore option. I get :-
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
    cause. . .
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status:0xc000000f
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is
    missing or corrupt.
Not sure how it all works but I assume the recovery stuff is stored on a separate partition. Trouble is I guess you need to be able to start to load windows before you can even get to this?
I've downloaded and tried a vista boot recovery disk with no joy, and of course, toshiba dont supply a vista disk. How on earth do I recover from this situation?

    Hello
At first I must say that I cannot understand why you didnt write which Equium do you have exactly?
Such info is always good for better understanding and discussion.
So, if recovery media was not delivered I think you have newest notebook model. Recovery media is not delivered with new notebooks and it must be created using preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". This software is preinstalled on all new Vista notebook. it can happen that people don't think about it and because of that Toshiba has designed small reminder with follow content:
    +*Important INFORMATION*+
+*your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. If you need to repair*+
+*your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly*+
+*from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"*+
+*and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.*+
+*Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator"*+
+*to ensure that you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer gets seriously damaged.*+
So now the question: Have you seen this reminder? Have you ignored it? Have you started preinstalled OS at the first day?
    What you have done exactly?
Sorry for all those questions but lot of people make big mistake: they don't even start preinstalled Vista and install WXP immediately.
On this way you will not be able to create recovery DVD and you will also loose F8 option to install Vista from HDD.
To be honest I don't know why this thread was posted under WXP category. As I wrote before after WXP installation on new notebooks you will not be able to use F8 and HDD recovery option.
So if you want good answer please explain to us exactly which notebook model do you have and what you have done in the past.
Bye my friend. Just stay cool we will find some solution or good explanation why this happen
    Have a nice day.

  • Windows failed to start on Satellite L510

    Hi :)
I am not very tech savvy, I have only had my laptop a month. And yesterday when I turned it back on I got this message....
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administration or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    file: \boot\bcd
    status: 0x000000f
info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration
I have been all over these forums and the internet searching for a solution but no luck. It is the weekend so I cannot contact the service line.
I would appreciate a step by step process of whatever it is I need to download or reboot. I do not have the windows installation disc as it did not come with my laptop.
I really do appreciate your help in advance ;)

    Hi
Well, the error message says everything for me. Insert the Windows disk *or* contact the manufacture (Toshiba). ;)
By the way: It would be interesting to know if you can boot in safe mode. Check this!!
If yes you could start the HDD recovery. Therefore select Repair my Computer in advanced boot menu and follow the screen instructions.
Yes, with the notebook didnt come a disk but you can create one!!!
Please read the user manual always first.
Now its too late to create such a disk but you can order a new one from Toshiba directly:

  • Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

I'm using HP dv6 7043 cl. My system was really slow. It was taking almost 7 mins in startup. I tried to reboot but I think I chose the wrong option while doing it. I pressed F9 button. It asked me to choose DVD-R or usb. I chose dvd option as my recovery was made on discs. Later it gave me the hp recovery menu options. There, I chose system recovery. It did it successfully but now the windows is not starting. It says Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Can someone please help and tell me how can I solve this issue and again get back my original windows?

    Hi,
Assuming this may just a problem with the recovery media/process, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source - Digital River.
    Windows 7 Images.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

  • Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922

    Hi folks,
I have a HP Elitebook Folio 9470p.  It came with Windows 8, and I installed it on my corporate domain.  I was trying to do some Windows updates so  I could upgrade it to Windows 8.1, but it fails installing the updates, whether or not I try
to install them one at a time or all of them.  It has about 18 updates it needs from security updates to a .net framework update.  I run Symantec EP, and disabled it, checked for driver updates for things like display and networking and they are
    all up to date.
I'm at a loss as to what to do.  It gives this error in the event log for each file, Event ID 20.
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2862152).
This is the example for KB2862152, but it gives the same error for every one.  I've tried to auto fix for Windows update issues and it fixed a couple of the issues, but not all of them, and provides no other help.
I also deleted folders and files from the SoftwareDistribution folder as well, to no avail.  Any ideas what I can do to get whatever updates it needs, so I can fully patch it, and upgrade it to Win 8.1?
    Thanks for any help!

Hi MM. Mr Kywildcat and Vegan Fan,
GOOD NEW ! At this time, my issue is solved. The only black side is "how ?" : I hope that we will get a response some day ; however, and for in information  pnly - hoping this could help someone - I resume some actions which allowed this the happy end
    1) about installing 8.1 : I wanted to be sure that gain/pain ratio was positive, and that upgrading from a (potentially) damaged system would'nt produce something looking like a new Win 8.1, but difficult to maintain and keeping some negative potentialities.
    2) I was influenced by the fact that this
0x800F0922  error acted as "a serial killerror", whose root cause could be a unique update error at reboot time concerning several (>20) packages, so I decided to test some manual upgrades.
    3)   Manual update (i.e. manual download and maunching of .msu packages) of the 2 following packages
(whose update previously failed on a Windows Update) was successful : .NET Framework version 3.5 for  x64 (KB2898866) and Camera Codec Pack Windows 8 for x64 (KB2899190)
    4) So I decided to try Windows Update on a selection of packages, first : those concerning .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.5 (that is: KB2898866, 2901120, 2898865) --> Successful !
    5) finally, I selected almost all other packages, with some exceptions wich I (think to) have no need for : KB2871690, 2904659, 2843630. To be complete, here is the list of pakages updated one time at all :
    KB 2892074, 2893294, 2893984, 2909210, 2912390, 2916036, 2889784,2903938, 2911101, 2913152, 2917499
    --> always succesful.
I am not a specialist, but I uess that this 0x800F0922 error hides another problem which is globally "H-RESULTED"
to all updates pending in one update operation with reboot. This could be assumed from this CBS.log exterped from my last wrong attempts, where root cause seems not to be
    0x800f0922, but 0x80004003 :
2014-02-15 21:29:13, Info                  CBS    Could not get active session for current session file logging [HRESULT = 0x80004003 - E_POINTER]
2014-02-15 21:29:13, Info                  CBS    Not able to add pending.xml.bad to Windows Error Report. [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]
2014-02-15 21:29:18, Error  CBS    Startup: Failed to process advanced operation queue, startupPhase: 0.  A rollback transaction will be created. [HRESULT = 0x800f0922 - CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED]
Anyway, thanks to you who spent some of your time to describe issues and search/ suggest solutions ; I will upgrade my system to 8.1 anyway, some of this day, when I am sure that my configuration does not hides some other problem. I thing that potential
issue remains until maybe a new KB corrects it, wrong :-) ?
And I hope that you - Mr Kywildcat - can upgrade your system on "current levels" trying similar attempts.
    Phil

  • Satellite C660D froze and does not start - Windows failed to start

Ok pretty much the most dense person you will ever likely to meet when it comes to things like this. but will try my best to explain.
Couple of days ago my laptop froze on me resulting on me having to turn it off and start it again by the power button. When I started it again the message below appeared.
    WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY
Windows failed to start . A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
If windows files have been damaged or configured in incorrectly, start up repair can help and diagnose the problem, if power was interrupted during start up, choose start windows normally.
    -Launch Start up repair (recommended)
    -Start windows normally
When I press Launch Start up repair it goes to a screen with a big cursor (which you can move around) but nothing else happens.
When I pressed on the start windows normally setting it went through to the windows logo whilst starting up but then stalls at this point.
My question is, is it easy to fix & if not where is the best place to take it to get fixed. Said I was pretty dense :p
    Thanks for looking
    Dean

    >My question is, is it easy to fix & if not where is the best place to take it to get fixed. Said I was pretty dense
I think its easy to fix but you would need an Toshiba Recovery disk.
Did you create one in the past?
If not, try to start the HDD recovery: power up the unit, press F8. Now choose Repair my Computer.
Now new Window should open and here you should choose Toshiba HDD recovery option. This would set the notebook back to factory settings.
In case this isnt possible, you would need to boot from a recovery disk to reinstall the system.

  • Exception while creating JCo client connection Failed to create

  • How to add a cloud machine as a node to existing windows fail over cluster having on-premise node in Windows server 2008 R2

    Hi All,
We have a windows fail over cluster having one windows machine on local network as one of its node.
I want to add a virtual cloud machine available on microsoft azure as another node to this existing cluster.
Please suggest how to do this?
    Thanking all in advance,
    Raghvendra

Before you even start working on the SQL side, you will need to create a Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster with no shared storage.  You can actually test that in-house.  Create a VM running 2008 R2 and cluster it with your physical (from your description,
I am assuming physical) 2008 R2 machine. Create it with a file share witness for quorum. Then configure your environment to see that it works as expected.
Once you know how to configure the cluster between physical and VM with a file share witness, build it to Azure.  The location of the FSW gets to be an interesting choice.  To have a FSW in Azure means that you will need another VM in Azure to
host the file share, meaning you have two quorum votes in Azure and one in-house.  Or, you could create a file share witness on an in-house system, giving you two quorum votes in-house and one in Azure.
In the FSW in Azure scenario, if you have a loss of the in-house server, automatic failover occurs because two quorum votes exist in Azure.  With FSW in-house, depending on the loss you have in-house, you might have to force quorum to get the Azure
single-node cluster to run.  Loss of access to Azure reverses those scenarios.  Neither one is optimal, but it does provide some level of recoverability.

  • Error creating files. Compilation failed... when publishing iOS app with AIR 3.1 and Flash 11.5.1

Hello, I'm running Windows 7. I'm using Flash 11.5.1 (that's CS5.5 updated once) and AIR 3.1 to make an iPhone app.
I can export the app perfectly fine with either Ctrl+Enter or F12.
I added all the required things with AIR for iOS settings, such as a p12 certificate and icon files.
I then hit publish. After I hit publish, I got this error:
    Error creating files.
    Compilation failed...
I tried dragging the window to see if there was anything hidden behind the elipses. What can I do to fix this problem?

note sure if I'm much help other than to CONFIRM it is working for me by using the sdk WITHOUT the compiler. Check out adobe's little note: "Note : Flex users will need to download the original AIR SDK without the new compiler."
I am using FB 4.7 with AIR 3.6 and seems to compile correctly for iOS.
    Maybe try reinstalling flash builder?
I honestly don't know if the JRE has anything to do with it... I'm using 1.7 ....to see what JRE you're using, open the Java Control Panel (I right click my java orange icon and hit properties), select the Java tab, then hit "View..."

  • Windows failed to publish property printBinNames - error 8007200d

Just like this old post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c9a445e2-b28f-4e57-bfef-c1a2f89b8cd6/printers-not-being-published-in-active-directory) I'm noticing some issues with printers being published to AD.   However
the error code I'm seeing is 8007200d.
    Q:\>err 8007200d
    # as an HRESULT: Severity: FAILURE (1), Facility: 0x7, Code 0x200d
    # for hex 0x200d / decimal 8205 :

    # The specified directory service attribute or value already
    # exists.
    # 1 matches found for "8007200d"
An example of the event which only has fired for this specific printer.  It
IS published in AD however and can be found with the Find Network Printer wizard.   It's been on this print server for well over a year too.

Error: 8007200d
Using ldifde I queried AD to find out what it has about this specific printer:
    ldifde -s its-ad-a1.ABC.MyDomain.org -r objectclass=printqueue -d "CN=PrintServer-AA-BB-4SE-COLOR-FXLSR,CN=PrintServer,OU=Level5,OU=Servers,OU=ManagedObjects,DC=ABC,DC=MyDomain,DC=org" -f test2.txt
Oddly enough, there is no printBinNames in the output:

Why then would Windows through EventID 322? printBinNames doesnt exist to conflict with per the error code thrown.
Even more odd is that I believe this error was preventing another newly crated printer from being published.   A new printer was created on the PrintServer. But the printer would now show up in the Find network printer wizard.  Right at the
same time I added this new printer, the Event ID 322 for the unrelated printer (AA-BB-4SE-COLOR-FXLSR) was logged.  Odd.
I then unpublished and republished the AA-BB-4SE-COLOR-FXLSR printer.  Windows logged both success and the same failure!  Also interesting is the published name it used is different
9/13/2013 12:47:19 PM - The printer was successfully removed from the Active Directory directory service. ...I did install a bunch of printing related hotfixes near the end of 1/2014, which is possibly the reason why it hasn't occurred again.
I'm seeing this too. Win2012r2 server is fully updated till 05/2014. For just newly installed printer and first time listing in AD i got:
    EventViewer's PrintService->Operational says:
The printer was successfully published to the Active Directory directory service. The print queue CN=HP1320-XXX was successfully created in container LDAP://DC4.XX.XX/CN=xx,OU=XX,OU=XX,DC=XX,DC=XX. No user action is required.
