Creating groups in contacts

How do you create groups in contacts by using the iPhone and not pc

In addition to setting up the groups on the Mac, there are various third-party apps in the App Store that will let you create Groups on the phone itself.

Hello Marie-Annick, the group addresses feature is currently not available ON the device itself.

In the text messages, touch the name of the person at the blue top > you're taken that contact's Address Book entry > touch the number to call.
From the Contacts application with a contact open touch and hold the number you wish to call. You'll see entries Call XXX or Text XXX.

  • How do you create groups in Contacts?

Is there a way to create groups in the Contact software on the iPad?

No, and yes.  Groups are created on your computer, and synced to contacts.  You cannot create groups on the pad.  But don't get excited, because when you sync over the groups it is very difficult to get them to do anything.
The good news is that there are a couple of apps that do this pretty well.  I used group email a lot and it works just fine.  There are a couple of others.  Read the reviews.

  • Creating group contacts

How do I creat group contacts?  I have a group of managers that I text/email regularly.  Is it possible to save these as a group so I don't have to add each individual each time I need to send a message?

Nicole, you can create group of contacts on your computer, and then sync them on iPhone, but you will not be able to select a group as recipient of a message. I have created a free application, Easy Group, to do this.

I would love to answer this for you. Here's how to create groups of contacts:
To create or show a group in your Contacts, tap Contacts: All contacts at the top of your screen and choose the group name.

  • How to group together contacts?

Hi there, I would like to know how to group people/phone numbers together under one category. For instance I have a ton of people from work I need to put into my phone but want to put them and their numbers all under one category like "Work" and be able to open it up and theres all my contacts from work. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I did look for answers but I kept getting things about grouping emails and thats not what I'm looking for,

You can create groups of contacts on your computer, then sync them on your iPhone. But you will not be able to select a group as text recipient. As of today, you need an application for that. I have create a free application, Easy Group, to handle this missing feature.

  • How do you add a new group in contacts

How do you add a group in contacts either on iPod touch or ipad

If your contacts are synced to iCloud you can login to www.icloud.com with a browser. On that website you have the opportunity to create groups, assign contacts to groups etc. Note that the iPad browser won't let you do that; you have to use another computer.
Once you've done that, the Groups red ribbon magically appears in your Contacts on the iPad.
It's a pity there's no way to do that on the iPad itself (that I've found) but at least you don't need a 3rd party app to do it. Another obvious oversight is that there doesn't seem to be any direct way of emailing a whole group from the iPad.
The Apple website talks up the ability to use Groups on the iPad but my guess is that a lot of users will be wondering how on earth to do it.

How to a link a contact to a group

You have to use a 3rd party app to do this.  Several are available, including ABContacts and Speed Names.  For texting, these don't support iMessage but you can always start a group message to a set of contacts on your phone and then save to conversation to send a future message to the same list of contacts.

Use Mail Scripts. Its Add Addresses function will collect all the addresses from all selected messages and allow you to select the ones you want to add and allow you to create groups as you go.

I can see how you do that when using the 'normal' emailing system from my mailing box, but not when working from the contact application (the 'book' on the bottom icon bar with the @ on it)....

How do I create a group in contacts for texting to several people?

Create your group on your computer, and sync it on your iPhone. But you cannot use this group for texting. You need an application for this. Easy Group is a free one I have developped.
