Creating high-definition Quicktime files

I have a project that was shot in P2.   The footage is 720P (I *think.*  I'm not as up on high-def as I should be.  The files are 960x720 with an aspect ratio of 1.3333 at 23.976 FPS).  The client has requested a high-definition Quicktime file that they want to play on their laptop, and not a blu-ray disc.  What settings should I use in Media Encoder to accomplish this?
My best guess is to use the h.264 codec and manually set the bit rate to its maximum.   However, if I set the Quicktime file output specs to match the specs of the P2 footage, it plays back too tall and not wide enough in my Quicktime player.  Through experimentation, I found that if I set the output to 1280x720 with a pixel aspect ratio of "square pixel," it loks right when I play the file in my Quicktime player.  But something tells me there is a better way.
So back to my original question - can Adobe media Encoder deliver a high-definition Quciktime file, and if so, how?
J. D.

QT's treatment of PAR's is bordering on comical. I don't know if it can't or won't read PAR header data created by windows, but i've never had any luck displaying non-square pixel vision in QT.
You can set it manually in the bowels of QT to get a correct aspect ratio, but it aint easy.
I'm with Harm: go square pixel. You might get a little degredation (as you'll be leaving a pixel-for-pixel scenario), but it's better than the alternative.

  • Creating 8 Channel Quicktime Files Out of Adobe Premiere

Final Cut Pro is the perfect example for setting A1 CH1, A2 CH2, A3 CH3, A4 CH 4 etc... how come this doesn't seem the same for Premiere?  Is the only (and most efficient) option is to create a separate AAF file with separate .AIFF or .WAV tracks?

Here's a quick guide we made recently for CC for 4 tracks. Just adjust to 8 tracks if that's what you need
    1. Unless your sequence in Premiere is already set up for multi-track audio, you must create a new sequence.
    2. In New Sequence dialog window, choose 'Custom' then go to 'Tracks' tab. Master should be set “Multichannel”, and Number of Channels “4”. (or 8 if that's what you want)
    3. Paste all the media from the old sequence into the new one. The Full Stereo Mix should go into Track 1, and the M & E Stereo Mix into Track 2. (That's from our Nat Geo template, yours will be different)
    4. Click on the Audio Track Mixer Tab and set Track 1 to 1 + 2, and Track 2 to 3 + 4. (again, change to suit)
    5. When ready to export, in Export Settings, you need to manually set output format. Start with video:
    Format: QuickTime
Video Codec: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    Quality: 100
    Field Order: Progressive
(Also our Nat Geo delivery spec)
    6. Click on Audio Tab and set Audio Codec to “Uncompressed”, Channels to “4” and Audio Track Layout to “2 Stereo Pairs”.
    7. You can test your export by dragging it into any new sequence. - remember to monitor the correct channels if you only have stereo output.

  • Playback trouble with *.m2ts high-definition video files

I just bought a new high-definition camcorder and downloaded files to my PC (Lenovo 3000 V200, 4GB RAM, CPU is 2GHz), but they playback in a choppy manner. Anybody have any ideas?
Could it be that my processor is too slow? If so, can I upgrade my processor?

I ran into the same problem. I had some picturess that had great detail. I put them into iMovie to get the "Ken Burns" effect, but when I shared them and used them in KN the lost their detail. I called Apple and the tech told me how to get HD images into KN.
In iMovie there are many options as to size and resolution when you use share. I think that I have used HD images stright from Photoshop to KN also. Hope this might help, somewhat late.

  • Creating higher quality dvd files

So here is my scenario : I am currently working on a project where the finished output is going to be DVD Video_TS folders. However, I am not going to be burning to a disc but taking the files to a flash drive to be able to be played off of the flash drive, thus I have way more space than any dvd would have. The situation I have ran into is that when I create the video_ts files it is squashing my quality significantly. I know this is because it is taking HD quality video and making it able to fit on a DVD. My question is this: Is there anyway on Encore to make the resolution of the transcode higher, almost to blu ray quality, while keeping the end point a video_ts folder? I have tried to write a BDMV file and play it back with VLC, which is what I am telling the clients to use to open this file, but it does not behave in a way that would allow the menus to work. trying to open those files in VLC player doesn't give me the end point I want. And I haven't been able to get VLC to play a BDMV file with menus and everything. If anyone can point me in the right direction on what to do I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

DVD is ALWAYS standard-definition (NTSC or PAL), there is no way to increase the resolution. You can increase the encoded quality using various methods/workflows while staying within the DVD spec.
Just read an interesting post the other day by a wedding videographer that is delivering his videos on a USB drive as .mp4 video, WITH menus/navigation. He is making some sort of Flash or HTML script that is included on the drive, don't know the details, but perhaps something like that would suit your needs, allowing HD video?
    Thanks

  • Really low vocals/dialogue in high definition Quicktime trailers

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Some trailers work fine. But on some trailers the speech volume is a lot lower than the background noise, special effects, music, etc. So low that, most of the time, you can't make out what they're saying. Please Help.
    UkeDaddy

I have analog speakers so i use all 3 jacks. This only happens on certain hd movies. It seems it wouldnt be so bad if they also mixed the voice track into the front left and right channels.
well i think i figured out the problem. even though i have 6.1 setup under the windows control panel and under the quicktime audio tab, quicktime still only outputs to the front 2 speakers. Is there some reason why quicktime can only see two speakers under my setup? The ultraviolet video has 5.1 audio.

  • How to produce a high quality quicktime file

I'm about to start making a new animation and am going to use action scropit 3, do I need to change any specific setting to make the quality better? Like should I change the dimension of the 'page'? (current is 550px x 400px)

Ah, I just converted it with the wrong compressor. I used DV/DVCPRO-NTSC prog. scan and it looks beautiful.

  • Quality reduction when using QuickTime file

I imported a high quality QuickTime file to my FCP timeline, and the QT file's appearance -- both on the timeline and on the subsequent export of an mpg file -- degraded substantially. Smooth-edged circles became jagged. Sharp text became soft. The original QuickTime file looks marvelous, but when placed on FCP, it looks terrible. Anybody know why?

it all depends on your sequence settings? what are they? what is your original footage from? web? DVD? tape? if tape what kind? also what version of FCP are you using? am i reading your message right, you are outputting as MPEG-2?

  • A How To: Create a Widescreen High Definition Slide Show from the Organizer

[EDIT] I just tried another one and, weirdly, that produced an output with black bars around all four sides! So maybe this 'how to' is not 100%.  I have considered deleting the post altogether but, as it does still produce a superior slideshow quality file than the standard ones provided with Elements,  I've decided to leave it with this edit added at the top for additional info.[END_EDIT]
In answering a question in another forum I found a nice quick way to create proper widescreen high definition slide shows from just the Elements Organizer. Apologies if this is 'old news' to readers, but I've not seen this described elsewhere so I thought I'd share it.
The Organizer Slide Show creator, if not wanting to edit in PRE, provides a small set of Windows Media Player profiles to create .wmv files. But the best of these goes only to 1024x768 (a 4:3 monitor resolution setting). I've noticed, but never paid much attention to, that at the bottom of the Slide Size box there is a 'Browse for more' option that lets you search for additional Windows Media Encoder profiles. Investigation showed me that I can download the Windows Media Encoder software from Microsoft and create my own profiles. But even further investigation showed  me that someone had already done this! I've tested their full HD profile and it works just fine (1920x1080).
So if you are just after a straightforward slide show (i.e. not needing PRE features) but want it displayed on your Full HD TV set here is what you do:
Download the HD Profiles from http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/236895-hd-profiles-for-windows-movie-maker/. There's also a couple of useful SD sizes there as well. Save them somewhere you can easily find them.
Create your slide show in the Organizer. Obviously use appropriately sized images for HD. There's little point outputting an HD wmv file using low resolution and/or 4:3 aspect ratio images.
Save and Output your slide show.
In the output dialog ('Save As a File') scroll down to the bottom of Slide Size and select 'Browse for more ...'.
Browse to the file you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
Click OK and your Widescreen HD .wmv file is prepared.
Here's a Gspot analysis of my test output file. As you can see it is an HD file with a 16:9, square pixel, aspect ratio.
    Ta Da!

You did not mention a specific Premiere Elements Elements Organizer combo for this, so for now I will address this from the version 11, not Windows Movie Maker, perspective if I need to get version specific.
    .prx
The Browse for More is a well known route and does offer at least one Adobe profile for 1280 x 720 16:9. I am not sure where you came up with the lesser resolution,1024 x 768 that you mentioned. The Windows Media profiles have existed for several versions of Elements Organizer. Those Adobe ones that you do not see under Output Save As A File Movie (.wmv), can be found in the Windows 7 or 8 64 bit path
    Local Disc C
    Profile Files (x86)
    Adobe
    Elements 11 Organizer
    Assets
    Locale
    en_US
    tv_profiles
in the tv_profiles Folder are included the .prx files
    .....10. 640 x 480 Enhanced Definitions
    .....12. 852 x 480 Widescreen Enhanced Definition
    .....14 1280 x 720 Widescreen High Definition
A homemade 1920 x 1080 16:9 30 frames per second .prx has long been sought but not that easily produced by many using with the Windows Media Encoder Editor. Apparently you have found one online, and it does get accepted into the Premiere Elements 11 Browse for More choices. And, if you do a gspot readout for the wmv output from Elements Organizer 11, it will display all the "right" properties that you hoped for and that are shown in your screenshot.
The bottom line, why bother with the wmv slideshow? If you take your original photos and size them for 1920 x 1080 16:9, use them in the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor (Crops used in preferences), use the Edit with Premiere Elements Editor command, what you get in Premiere Elements 11 is full and good in all regard. Have you tried it?
I can see your interest if this is HD going to HD (AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc, but I do not see this for an Elements Organizer Slideshow that is going to DVD-VIDEO widescreen.
    More later.

  • Creating a high definition slide show in FC ?

Just totally new in this field, I am asked to produce a high definition slide show to be presented on a cinema screen. iPhoto seems too basic, PPS or OpenOffice probably won't let me create a self contained DVD show. So FinalCut could be an option, though I don't know to what resolution limit. I have FC HD, but consider upgrading to the new version if this would help. Is it the way to go or should I rather consider an other program? I must say that so far I have no idea of the definition of the pro digital beamer, nor if a DVD is a good support or if it will limit the image definition. It seems to me that high definition video should produce sharp still images too even on a big screen, but no experience really. Thanks in advance for some hints!

I'm a bit of novice here. I love Keynote for its ease of use, ability to easily support .ai and .eps art, and its cool transitions. I know it can generate QuickTime output which you could then convert to a DVD using iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. However, Keynote won't let you do things like move the graphics around (e.g., no "Ken Burns" effect).
I'm a little curious about the DVD thing. If you are going to be projecting this, life will be a lot easier if you just project it from a computer, rather than converting it to DVD format, which is really designed for TV/movie type output, not multimedia output, e.g., text. FCP HD will produce HD output, but I think I am correct that there are no current players that support HD DVD (about to change with BluRay and DVD HD).
Answer is it really depends ... how fancy are the effects you want to show? How much time do you want to spend learning FCP or Motion (both have a long learning curve)? Will you be able to project this from a computer or must it play in a regular DVD player?

  • IDVD doesn't process AVCHD video and high definition RAW photo files

Hi everybody. I have a brand new Canon VIXIA HF S10 and 5D Mark II. I tried to make a movie out of video shot with the camcorder using iMovie and then I burned a DVD with iDVD. I also made a slide show out of RAW photos made by the 5D. And I encountered such a situation when the movies I made seem to be missing some frames. For instance people move discretely instead of smoothly as in the original video. As for the photos they come out not to be of high definition and don't fit to the whole TV screen. I mean if I burn the photos to a DVD in Jpeg they look perfect. I set all the setting to HD but still get poor quality.
Have anybody dealt with the same situation or I should try more professional soft like Cut pro or DVD pro?

IDVD can't process AVCHD. I use Toast to do that. Import your pictures or slides into IMovie and export them via Quicktime if you want 1920x1080 or via browser if you want 720P. Than you can us the browser in Toast to create a DVD in AVCHD. It will play in a blu ray player but NOT in Mac OSX. You will need to use Native Windows via Boot Camp and a Blu Ray player in your mac if you have one. Otherwise a Blu Ray player in you TV system should work.

  • Hi I just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I write DVD's using Final Cut Pro, creating a DVD that plays HD and Standard Definition on one disk. My problem is when I used load the disk on my G5 it would ask if you want High Definition or Standar

Hi I just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
I write DVD's using Final Cut Pro, creating a DVD that plays HD and Standard Definition on one disk.
My problem is when I used load the disk on my G5 it would ask if you want High Definition or Standard Definition, now it just defaults to Standard Definition.(I'm using Apple's DVD Player)
    Can I fix this problem?

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • How do i create high res pdf from psd file?

    Hi all,
I've been searching endlessly for this answer however I cant get the answer. My commercial printer is requesting a high resolution pdf file, and i created my artwork in photoshop 2. Can anyone tell me how to create a high res pdf with this file? Someone told me I need to purchase acrobat 9, however from research I've conducted there are no tutorials to achieve this either, and $500 is a little steep for a waste of time

What do you mean by "Photoshop 2"?  Are you referring to Photoshop CS2?
If Photoshop CS2, then you have been given the proper instructions.
If the option shown is unavailable to you, then your Photoshop installation is scrogged.  Reinstall it.
