Creating Hyperlinks that open a new window

Hi,
I'm creating a website for an art group I belong to.
On the member's gallery page  - here - I have each artists name and a link to a website if they have one. I would like the link to open the site in a new window rather than directing the visitor away from the site (leave our site open in a window behind)  But I don't see an option for that when I make the hyperlink. Is this possible?   Or is this something that the development team should consider in future updates?
Thanks,
Elaine

Hi Elaine
You can enable the option for opening the page in new tab or page.
Thanks,
Sanjit

  • Create Hyperlinks that open in new tab or window?!

    Hello,
Ok, so, this has been asked other times for many versions of InDesign and most common response is to do it in Acrobat Pro. WHY?!!!! I couldn't even easily figure out how to do it there and frankly, don't want to. That seems so backwards and tedious to have to do...seriously. How is this not an option in InDesign Hyperlink edit creation/options yet?!! It is SO simple. Please tell me I'm missing something... I love Adobe products and especially CC products that are getting better and more time saving...but this is so dumb, I'm sorry. I'm no smarty software engineer but I know what user friendly is and how things should work for everyone...and it seems like an easy thing to make possible. Many people create PDF's in InDesign for viewing/downloading in a browser and this needs to be an option with-in InDesign CC. Simple as that. When the PDF is opened in Acrobat the links do open in new tab/window but NOT when it is viewed in a browser. This is why I should or maybe shouldn't work for Adobe, I wouldn't let little things like this, that actually makes a big difference in user experience, go unnoticed and unchanged over so many new releases and updates...or ever be taken away. I guess I'll put in an InDesign CC features request...
Thanks to anyone who agrees and relays...or lets me know I'm missing something.
    Andy

I would also like a solution to this problem. It seems to have been around for quite a while.

  • When I try to follow a hyperlink, Firefox opens a new window that stays blank.; also I can't download a hyperlinked file.

I recently bought a laptop that is equipped with Windows 7. I needed new drivers for my Canon printer and was able to locate the new software on their website. When I tried to activate the hyperlink, Firefox opened a new window with the proper address in the "window". however the window stayed blenk. Similar actions with IE yielded desired results.
I got the same "dead end" when I tried to download a form from Mozilla; again IE worked fine.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • Does any version of InDesign let you set hyperlinks to open in new window?

I'm converting some InDesign books to pdf and epubs and my client wants the hyperlinks to open in new window when these files are viewed in browsers. so far no version I've tried has this capability.

It must be done in Acrobat. Ask in the Acrobat forums.

  • Hyperlink to open in new window on clicking via crystal client

    Hi,
How to call hyperlink in new window via crystal client.
I have main report. In that ,for two-three columns, I have made the hyperlink and I want that when user click on that column, it should open in new window.
But I am unable to open the below link in new window.
    Hyperlink code :
    &columnname
I am using crystal client XI R2.
Please let me know any solution.
    Thanks in advance

    Vishal,
In your Hyperlink add in the parameter for
    sWindow=New
    i.e. 'http://epint1ent1.jpmorganchase.com/vps/docViewer?sWindow=New&invoiceIndexKey='.....
You obviously need to complete the Hyperlink fully.
    This should do the trick

  • Creating URLs that open a new tab or browser window?

    Hello out there...
I am creating some podcasts via Garage Band and iWeb for my grade 9 class. I have embedded some URLs in the podcast however when one 'clicks' the links the iWeb page is closed and the user is taken to the new page.
I would like the iWeb page with the podcast to remain open and a new page or tab open up to display the link.
Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks,
    B!

  • Links that open a new window with javascript:void(null); do not work in 3.1

I've been noticing that any site I go to that opens content in a new window with "javascript:void(null);" will be ignored by Safari 3.1. The links work in Firefox and used to work in Safari as well. Any suggestions?

General rule of thumb in the Mac universe...
When Safari is updated most if not all third party add-ons break. That's because most don't play by the rules. The developer thinks they know how to do it better than Apple so they just do it their way. So the first rule of survival is to KNOW what you have installed on your machine at all times. Use something like textedit to create a document listing all of the third party stuff you have installed and religiously update the list. Second rule is to wait a few days before applying an update. Third rule is to visit your third party developers' sites and make sure their little gadget is compatible with the new Safari update.
Being aware of things will make life much easier for you in the long run.

  • Hyperlinks to open in new window?

I'm trying to set my external hyperlinks to open in a new
(browser) window but haven't had any luck. I thought that the
"Display in Browser" option when setting up the HTML Jump would do
this, but it still opens within the help window. Can anyone provide
instructions on how this can be done in RH for Word v7? Thanks in

How does one use "target=blank" in the FrameMaker 11 hypertext marker syntax?  I currently have a Hypertext tag, with the following contents:
    message URL http://www.mylink.com target=blank
When I import this to RoboHelp 10 and generate HTML Help, I get a link of "http://www.mylink.com%20target=blank", which obviously isn't right!
Mind you, will target=blank even work in the standard Microsoft HTML Help viewer anyway?

  • Link to headline that opens in new window

    Hi there,
    a short question:
Is it possible to create a "Go to a page" link to a headline in a second document (bookmark) in a new window? I couldn't find this option. I can link to the headline, but it opens in the same window.
Editing (show in new window) the link after creating it leads to the head of the page of the second document, not to the headline/bookmark.
Hope I could explain the point

    Hi petrad27605776,
I would like to inform you that you can choose to open the second file in a different window :
Go to 'Tools'- > 'Content Editing' -> 'More Content' -> 'Add or edit Link' -> 'Link Action' (Select 'Open  a File') -> 'Next' ->Set path of the file and Click 'OK' -> Specify Open Preference ( Select 'New Window') and Click OK
However when the document will be opened up, it will point to the first page of the document.
    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Browser - links that open in "new" window

How does the Kin handle opening links that open in a new window? Does the original window get "closed" when a link opens in a new window? Or can you hit the back button to return to the previous window? Or can it somehow open multiple windows? Has anyone tried this? Thanks in advance!

I don't have a Kin on me to try this, but I think you can never have more than one window open. It will open in the same window, but yes, there is a back button in the upper left. I hope that helps.

  • Create links which opens in new window

I have created a document which contains external links (http). When I convert the document to pdf and open the pdf document in browser the link open in the same window in which pdf is opened.
How can I make them open in new browser window.

Try this suggestion in Ted's blog -- Opening PDFs in a New Browser Window.
It works for PDFs as well as URLs.

  • Globally change hyperlinks to open in new window

    Hi
I have imported a huge FrameMaker book which has about 30 hyperlinks to URLs spread across multiple topics.
So, is there a way I can globally configure all URLs to open in a new window after importing the book into RH? I did not use "_targe=blank" in FM hypertext as it was resulting in some formatting error whenever hyperlinks appeared with a custom FM Style.
    I am using FM11 with RH10.

  • When on my secondary monitor, firefox will not perform any action that opens a new window (View page source, show all bookmarks, etc).

I'm using Mac OSX with Firefox 5, but also had this problem with Firefox 4.
I use an external monitor as my primary monitor and my laptop monitor as a secondary. When the window is on the secondary monitor, I can't open new windows to do things such as view source and manage bookmarks.
Any solutions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Both Firefox and IE have the same problem. The cursor instead of being a finger when pointing to a link is still an arrow. However I can click anywhere on the page and an ad will pop up. I have eliminated all unwanted bars in Firefox, I ran Malwarebytes until it came out clean. I also have AVG which had detected a few items on it's own. But when I get into Firefox I still have exactly the same problem. Now it will not let me download Browser Safeguard. Usually after one click the pointer returns to normal for a few screens. When I try to click to download Browser Safeguard it keeps bringing up different ads or it tries to get me to upgrade Firefox or some other browser helper program which I know are all BS tactics to get me to load their junk again. PLease help I'm an engineer and pretty good with PCs but this one has me beat at least so far.

  • Hyperlink target - open on new window

    Hello people
I edited one field's hyperlink property to point to an asp page. As I run this report into the internet, I want to open the page on a new browser window. In html I could simply add target="_blank" option, but I don't know how to do this in Crystal Reports.
    Can anybody help me?
    thanks
    Fabio

Thanks to [this|DBMGui Information about old non existent databases|forums.sun.com] Sun forum topic, I changed my asp page and now it works fine:
    instead of:
    Dim objViewer
    Set objViewer = CreateObject("CrystalReports.CrystalReportViewer")
    objViewer.ProcessHttpRequest Request,Response,Session
    now it is:
    Dim objViewer
    Set objViewer = CreateObject("CrystalReports.CrystalReportViewer")
    dim lstrHTML
    lstrHTML = objViewer.GetHtmlContent(Request, Response, Session)
    lstrHTML = Replace(lstrHTML, "target=""_self""", "")
    lstrHTML = Replace(lstrHTML, "sWindow=New""", "sWindow=New"" target=""_blank""")
    Response.Write(lstrHTML)
    tks
