Could someone tell me how to create an icon in photoshop elements 8. I'm sure it must be possible.

The file format ico is not one of the choices in Elements however plug-ins can be found which are said to work with Elements as well as CS5.

The alternative is to select your item in elements using the quick selection tool and press Ctrl+J to place it on to a transparent background.
Resize it (no more than 250 x 250 for an icon) delete the background copy and hit save for web. Select PNG-24 and save. If you place it on the desktop or a web page the background will show through however you will get an hard edge.

Icon-making: Photoshop + Illustrator?

I have Design Premium CS5 (soon to have CS6) and want to know whether, among InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, do we have everything we need to make icons, cross-platform, all the sizes that might be needed and into a delivery form that any platform can utilize?
I know that I can create icons with Illustrator and Photoshop; I'm really inquiring here about the post-creation delivery and cross-platform compatibility of the creative product in a form that others can use as icons.

I guess that depends on if you have a way to save to the correct formats. On windows an icon can be in the form of an ico, exe or dll. The latter two usually are created with an app that can compile code like visual studio. But a google search may provide a free app. Downloads.com is usually a good place to look. that can convert to at least ico format.
At this point none of the Adobe apps are capable of exporting to any of the formats that I mentioned. but they all can export as a png, tiff or jpg which most 3rd party apps can read.
I never tried porting from Mac to Windows or visa-versa, but I do believe some formats like tiff do have to be told which platform your file will be living on. Though someone else will have to confirm or deny that.

Need help with photoshop elements8

When creating a photo from elements8 and want to share and after choosing the photo and go thru the proper steps and go to send the photo, up pops a screen telling me I need to choose a default email to do this. Has photoshop discontinued this service for elements 8?

In PSEv.8, Open Organizer. Go to Edit>Preferences>sharing>E-mail settings.
In the drop-down is a list of e-mail clients that should work on your machine.

How to create ICon/Cursor from pdf files

     I was able to create ICon from jpg file without problem but I couldn't create ICon from pdf files.

My goal is to create buttons which have icons from a pdf file (stamp) and when user click on these buttons, the cursors become the icon . And then, when user click on the document, the iCon will be showed in the document. The point is: is there anyway to create icons/cursors/stamps from one pdf file. Because the stamp is changeable, when user changes the color/shape of the pdf file, the icons/cursors/stamps will automatically change
What kind of pdf format do I have to use?
I used the sample "SignHere.pdf" in stamps folder of Acrobat but it didn't work.

The SDK has all the information - but certainly there are only samples for those common actions that users have been doing for years. Most developers don't recreate stuff already present in the application - such as the Stamp plugin - so we don't have samples of such things.
But all the pieces you need are present in the SDK - it's just necessary obvious. You will need to learn about the details of how the plugin APIs work to create the toolbars and toolbuttons, and then how to handle cursors. You will then need to learn about PDF details in order to be able to take an existing PDF, potentially modify it (eg. Change the color(s)) and then place it onto another PDF.
The methods you listed are from JavaScript - there are alternative methods for plugins, such as the AVConversion APIs.

Creating stills in photoshop cs2 for 16:9 HDTV

I've been reading posts regarding creating stills and still need some clarification. I'm from a print world, so dealing with square pixels vs. non square, hdv, vs dv widescreen is all a bit confusing....
I've been to this link: http://www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop1.html and several others, plus reading the manuals which all have been helpful, but each instance deals with different specs, not necessarily what I've listed below.
First, I am creating the stills for 16:9 viewing on a hidef tv (1080). The FCE HD project is an animated, narrated story with overlays, keyframe motion and some limited effects.
Here are my questions:
1. In creating my original photoshop template: should I use pshop's presets under "new document":
HDV, 1920 x 1080 (with guides) and if yes, what should the aspect ratio be set at? Square or HDV anamorphic? (When I do "HDV anamorphic" I get a squashed look in FCE, with "square" it looks good.)
2. Saving the photoshop file to be imported into FCE, would it be better to save as a jpg, or photoshop or other format? I've been reading differing opinions as to which...
3. Once I create this template (above) can I crop down the still if it doesn't fill the entire photoshop template (I will have some overlays that will not require a full frame in FCE).
4. some images will be enlarged in FCE. Instead of enlarging them in FCE, should I be enlarging them in photoshop? should I be enlarging exponentially, ie doubling the size of my original photoshop template? And if I'm enlarging them less than 150% in FCE, would the image lose it's sharpness at that enlargement?
5. And finally, I've already created some of the stills in photoshop using the photoshop presets for HDV 1920 x 1080, pixel aspect: square and brought them into FCE. Is WYSWYG in the FCE's canvas window what I'll be seeing on my TV monitor (16:9 1080 HDTV). The images are not squashed and look great, but I'm not sure if that's what I'll end up with when I finally view on my tv.

1. If you're working in FCE in a 1920x1080 sequence then that's what you should make in Photoshop, square pixels not HDV.
2. Save as Photoshop, TIFF, or PNG, not JPEG.

4. Enlarge in Photoshop if they have to be enlarged. You should never double the size of an image. It will quickly start to deteriorate, especially when it's re-compressed. You'll have to live with it not being full size. You should never enlarge an image more than 115%. It will start to soften and make encoding more difficult.
5. No. The Canvas is a lo res representation of the final output. For professional work most editors use an external video monitor to view their material. This can't be done unfortunately in FCE with HD material.

The error occurs only when using FSM and login with the Korean language. There are no issue if we access the page with the direct URL:

2. Navigate to Setup and Maintenance > All Tasks > Name:Manage Bank% > Search
3. Click on Go to Task button against Manage Bank Accounts record
4. In Manage Bank Account page click on Create Icon - Error Message Appears.
In the error message after the Korean characters (status=500,ecid=000IyPN0iN7y0A5jbP5if1Dhqlf00083z) message is displayed.
Can you please advice how I can debug this issue?

How to use/create icons with transparent background ?

I would like to use icons with transparent background on JButtons, but I can't find how to do it. Until now, I've been using the ImageIcon class to create icons from GIF images. These images were created with MSPaint (sorry, I don't know what I could have used instead of that). Here is how I create my buttons :

Transparent images are GIF (256 colours) and PNG (true-colour, half transparency).
You can store the image with your code, *.class files. You then even can deliver all inside a clickable, executable .jar file.
This kind of usage is called "resource," and hence use getResource like this:

There exist versions of MSPaint that easily loose their transparent colour on saving.
For GIFs try internet palettes, or try to save as PNG (recent version).
Start with a transparent image from elsewhere.

Runtime Configuration
1) Creating Jar file
i) Once you are ready with your GIF files or JPG files, create a folder called ICONS. You can create this folder anywhere. For e.g. you can create ICONS folder on a C drive under root directory or as a sub-folder under any folder.
ii) Assuming you have created ICONS folder as a root folder on C drive, now copy all your GIF files in this folder.
iii) Go to the DOS prompt and enter cd\
iv) At C:\ prompt enter the following command to create Java Archive File (JAR) called my_icons
Jar ?cvf my_icons.jar icons
(Note: If above command don't run then paste icons foled at C:\DevSuiteHome_1\jdk\bin.)
v) Copy this file in <Forms10g_Home>\Forms\Java folder.
Please remember that having the name of the folder holding GIF/JPG files as ICONS is very important. Because if the folder name is something else, icons will not be displayed in your form at run time.
2) Modify REGISTRY.DAT file
i) Open this file located in <Forms10g_Home>\forms\java\oracle\forms\registry folder.
ii) Append the existing parameter default.icons.iconpath as follows:
default.icons.iconpath=icons/
iii) If you are going to use GIF files as image files for icons, then leave the existing parameter default.icons.iconextension=gif as it is. If you want to use JPG files instead of GIF files, replace GIF with JPG as shown below:
default.icons.iconextension=jpg
3) Modify FORMSWEB.CFG file
This file exists under <Forms10g_Home>\Forms\Server folder.
Append the following existing parameters:
i) imagebase=codebase
ii) archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,frmwebutil.jar,jacob .jar,my_icons.jar
After doing above configurations, create a form and place an icon on the button. Set button's icon property = Yes and give name of icon.
NOTE: This icon shoul be in jar file. If u want to add more icons in jar file then u will have to create JAR file again. Also again place it in <Forms10g_Home>\Forms\Java folder.

There are times I want to create titles in photoshop or fireworks and import into iMovie.
When I do them @ 640x480, they come in all messed up.
They look fine on QT Pro.
What is the best way to do this for iMovieHD 6?

I guess you get the best quality if you compose the titles in the 720x480 resolution they end up with anyway (you are using NTSC, right?). Then there will ne NO scaling that can distort the image.
So make a 720x480 Photoshop document. You can set Photoshop to use 4320/4739 ~0.912 pixel aspect ratio so you see the correct dimensions.

Then the trick: don't import that image to iMovie because it will scale the 720x480 image. Instead, open it in QT Player Pro and export it as a .dv stream. THEN import that .dv to iMovie. Then there should be no scaling.
Also remember that it is surprisingly difficult to do good-looking line-art for video. You have to slightly blur the image if it contains sharp vertical lines. Avoid some colors in NTSC etc. See also:

How To Edit Icons In Photoshop CS5 ?

I go through this everytime I have to reinstall an OS, after installing all my programs I'm assigning my custom icons and inevitably I find one I want to tweak, I go to open it in Photoshop and... nothing. Then I spend an hour on Google looking for that one article that describes where to get the .ICO plugin and how to install it on a 64 bit system. Well I can't seem to find "that" article, my daughter is driving me bonkers, and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I need to edit this icon and Photoshop isn't playing nice, any help would be appreciated.

Many of the tools have multiple choices - simply right-click on an icon or for the brush tool keep pressing the letter B to tab through the choices.
