Creating illustrations for large sizes, which software to use?

Hello everybody,
I'm an amateur, its my first discussion here,
My team from work will start a big project, we will build a space for visitors to an event. We will need several illustrations plots for the walls, the drawings has sizes like 6, 7 meters (width), with vectors and photos (jpeg, eps files). I have some experience with Ilustrator, but theres no way to create files larger than 577.95. Before I start, I want to hear your opinion about the best Adobe software to create these large size illustrations.

I second that. Setup your Illustrator File at 25%. Your Photoshop files will be 600ppi @ 25%; so their final ppi will be 150 @ 100%; suitable for large format digital printing. Raster/Document settings ( illustrator ) should be set for high res or custom where any raster effects will retain their appearance when scaled 400%. You might be able to prep your files @ 50%; if so, just adjust resolutions.

Effective Cropping in Aperture for large size prints

hi all,
any advice (in simple terms as I am new to digital slr photography - just assume I know very little) on the most effective way to crop photographs for large size prints. I just bought a Nikon D80 dslr - I have a photo of my daughter I really like and would to crop and then enlarge for a nice framed photograph. The original print is 3872 x 2592 and in cropped form it is 915 x 807 which appears quite small to me. Is there any chance of a decent large print. I used the aperture cropping tool - is there another way which preserves more resolution (not sure am using right word here) - or put differently what is the best way of getting a good cropped photo from this print. Apologies if that was a bit all over the place.

Usually, when you crop you simply discard those pixels outside of the area you wish to keep so nothing is lost. It looks worse as you enlarge it on the screen but the retained area should be exactly the same as it was before cropping - just smaller. There are ways to uprez a photo that make it look better when enlarged - but detail cannot be invented! In photoshop you can try to increase the resolution in 10% steps until the image is a size suitable for a larger print. I've seen this used to good advantage but sometimes it simply looks horrible. Give it a try, you can't lose anything.

Hi,
You can create the 'Parameter Transaction' so that whenever you run the particular transaction it will run with the initial value given when the Tcode was created and hence you can skip the initial screen of the module pool program.
To create Parameter transaction from SE93 you have to choose the last option i.e Parameter Transaction.

How can I get INSTID_B for the documents which are stored using Store Business Document functionality

Dear experts,
I had activated the functionality of Store Business document and successfully stored documents in external server.
My client have a custom function module which is used to send emails.In that FM they used SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1, SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 function modules.They passed Instance Ident(SRGBTBREL->INSTID_B)(eg: FOL33000000000004EXT39000000000026) as export parameter to the FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1' and get the attachment details and content.
Here my problem is I do not have entries in the table SRGBTBREL for the documents which are stored using the Store Business Document functionality and without INSTID_B I am unable to use the FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1' to get the document details and content. Please help me to find INSTID_B for documents which are stored using Store Business Document functionality or please let me know if there is any other way to use FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_READ_API1' for documents which are stored using Store Business Document.

Hi Kiran,
You can use the following method to get the information. For example if you want to get BO documents for a customer
CALL METHOD cl_binary_relation=>read_links
   EXPORTING
     is_object           = ls_lpor
     it_relation_options = lt_relat
   IMPORTING
     et_links            = lt_links.
then fill ls_por-instid with a customer number (KUNNR), ls_por-typeid = 'KNA1' and ls_por-catid = 'BO'.
Table lt_relat should contain a line option for each document type (for example 'I' 'EQ' 'NOTE', 'I' EQ 'ATTA', 'I' EQ 'URL', ...
In table lt_links you will get your information.
Maybe some other methods of class CL_BINARY_RELATION may also solve your issue.

Sorry, but you will not find any such app. The iOS itself is set up such that 3rd parth apps can have almost no interaction with any other app (exceptions being the ability of some to read data from some of the OS included feautures, like Maps reading location information from iOS location services). So there is no way to design an app that would interfere with or restrict how another app works - the iOS simply precludes that.

Resolution/other questions in creating books for large books

thinking of getting my first book hard and large 100 pages.
does that mean i have the capacity for atleast 200 photos ( cover back of a page )?
i use 300dpi very high file size images ( 28-60mb) that are not stored on iphoto. I used to make 250-500k jpgs for iphotos so that it would work fast smooth and easy.
If i load my image files into iphoto with the desire to create the largest book, what is the recommended resolution and file size to make the images look their best in the book. I dont understand this whole process because when my images are printed and published in books or magz the requirement is atleast 17.2 MB or higher.
what is the usual file size and resolution that people use in their images to toss into these templates?

If you select double sided printing you can have 200 full page photos in the book. More if you use other layouts.
You want to use the largest pixel sized file you have. For a one photo per page layout, full page, you'd want a pixel dimension of 2250 x 3300. That would be equivalent to an 8.5 x 11 inch at 300 dpi. 300 is what the books are printed at.
The frames (picture window) used in the books are sized at a 4:3 ratio. To get your photo to perfectly fill the frame without any cropping, crop your images to 4:3 before putting the in book.
If your photos are a different ratio, they can be used, but some will be cropped from the top and bottom when placed in a frame. You can opt to have the entire image show in the frame but there will be some white space in there also.
My first large book was produced with a camera that gave me images at 1600 x 1200 pixels. Since I didn't have any one photo per page layouts I didn't get any low resolution warning.
The following is a reply I got from Apple regarding book materials and printing quality:

iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
- Large 8.5 x 11 inches
- Medium 6 x 8 inches
- Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
CARDS

As for file size, iPhoto creates a pdf file of the book for uploading and printing. You can preview the file by creating the pdf file yourself. Just Contol-click on a page but not a photo in the book mode and select the Save Book as PDF option.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

If you are talking about processes launched from a JVM (running outside), Process is available.
If you are talking about processes already running outside of a JVM, you could roll-your-own class to provide similar functionality as Process. This approach would be platform dependent, backed by the platform's I/O scripting and therefore limited to what the platform supports for process manipulation, e.g. Linux/Unix capabilities far exceed Windows.

I have been building an short intro film for a presentation, which consists of type coming up on screen, followed by photo's and each item then animating in size and position to form a map of the UK.
I've been building this in Motion, but have since realised the maximum length of the project is only about 500 frames? Am I using the wrong software?! I need the whole thing to run for around 2 mins in total.

If Motion is working for you can stick with it, you just need to change the project length. You can do this in the Project Properties (command-J) or click the arrow to the right of the timecode and select Show project Duration. If you double click the timecode you can change the length of the project. I'd just make sure to set the time to show "Current Time" to make sure you don't accidentally change the length.

Which software to use to download files?

I just bought a new ipod and am a new user in downloading mp3 files. I tried using napster and yahoo jukebox to download files but they charge for each song you download. Can anyone suggest which is the best software to use to download music for free?

Free does not equal illegal. Not all artists charge money for music. Here is an example of some free music I found by accident the other day. There is lots more where this came from. You just have to look for it.
If you use Peer-2-Peer software to download music, you will put yourself at risk of civil lawsuits by the RIAA. Plus, most of the music on P2P is stolen, mass-marketed industry stuff. If that music was worth what they charge for it in the first place, why would the P2P industry have even developed?

After updating to iOS 8.1.2 it asks for a passcode, which I never used, such that I now have an $800 paperweight!

I recently updated to the iOS 8.1.2, but after rebooting, the iPad demands a passcode, which was never used on this iPad. I cannot bypass the passcode question. It is now an $800 paperweight. Apple support of course wants money for the obviously poor code in their update! Currently I am trying to reset it to factory settings, losing almost everything I had on it, since it was not properly backed up. However, it seems stuck on enter passcode, even after resetting it!
If anyone else has a solution to this, would love to hear from you. How does Apple get away with this stuff? (I dare them to be honest and post this!)

Hmm, I did receive an email saying that the thread was deleted, but did not explain why for some reason. It sounds like the Level 7 guy caused this. I will call Apple tomorrow to find out who is responsible. And see if I can lodge a complaint against that user. Maybe it was because of what the Level 7 guy was saying.
There was useful information posted in that threat that addressed the issue that I am experiencing. I will try to reiterate from the apple website, it says.
Recovery mode
If you've never synced your device with iTunes, or haven't set up Find My iPhone, you'll need to put your device in recovery mode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.
This will erase the device and its passcode.
Disconnect all cables from your device.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button, then "slide to power off" to turn off your device.
Press and hold the Home button and plug the device into your computer. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on. Don't release the Home button.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
If iTunes doesn't open automatically, open it. iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Click OK. Then restore the device.
If your device doesn't go into recovery mode, try steps 1–4 again.
They suggested that I try this over again until it works. It did not work for me the first time.

After getting the enhancement number if u click on that it will take u to the functionmodue. U copy that function module/include.
go to se37 put that function module , there u see the where used list.
it will show the mainprogram in which functionmodue/include used.,
By that program u can traceout the transactioncode easily.
But what i suggest is that instead of going in your path. U can easily findout the
userexits for particlular transaction using 1 custom programe.
