Creating iTunes .pls file

Somehow I created a "listen.pls" file which I placed in a desktop folder and used as an alias to open iTunes and the station I wanted in one step.
This worked until the station re-named its program. I now want to listen to the new stream which has automatically appeared under the radio list in the source pane. I cannot find the new .pls file which is supposed to reside in my system. Exactly where is it since I would like to move it to the desktop?
Searchlite cannot see it.
Tks

Thanks Diane, your suggestion created a "Web internet location" 8 kb file which I used to open iTiunes and the station needed.
At the same time another file titled "classical.pls" 4 kb with the word "playlist" on the icon was created on my desk top. The kind is "Internet Audio Playlist"

  • Re-create iTunes library files?

    Hi
The problem is as follows. I have all my itunes (60 GB) on an external hard drive and I have deleted (don't ask!) my iTunes library and xml files. I want to be able to re-create the library without having to copy the songs from the external drive to my internal hard drive - I dont have enough space on the laptop. What do I do?

Verify in Preferences>Advanced>General if the 'iTunes Music folder location' still points to your music folder on the external drive.
Then choose 'Add to Library...' from the File menu and navigate to the folder on the external drive.
The files already are at the designated location, so iTunes will not create copies.
You will have to re-create all playlist, because they were in the 'iTunes Library' file and are now MIA.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error -1450 problem occurred creating itunes library file

itunes won't make .itl, the file that apparently necessary for maintaining a music library on itunes. this means my library is lost every time i close itunes. Comes in the form of error message -1450

I know this doesn't help you Bud, but I've had this issue for at least the last couple of versions.  If I can ask, what is you enviornment like?  Local PC only, libray saved on another PC/Server?
In my case my library is on Windows 2003 server with the share mapped to drive M:  This has worked for many years through both XP and Windows 7 until and update a while ago.

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created..."

I'm getting this error upon opening iTunes:
When I try to open iTunes with the option key, it asks me to find a library. I can navigate to my library and see the file, but it is grayed out and can't be selected. Prior to this i had been getting an error about iTunes not being able to save the library, but I thought it was coming from my backup app.
Any ideas? I can no longer open iTunes or access my music or videos.
    Thanks!

OK.. I finally found an answer buried among a million other posts.
To fix this, click to open the iTunes app and immediately hold down the "Option" key.  This will allow you to either create a new iTunes library file, or point the app to where the library is.  In my case, I repointed it to the Music>iTunes folder where my library file was and this worked.

  • How can I locate my iTunes library files. When I click on my itunes icon the message appears, "The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be found because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

How can I locate my iTunes library files?  When I click on my iTunes icon rather than my iTunes files I receive, " The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  I have already tried to update my iTunes program.

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

  • ITunes doesn't create an "iTunes Library" file

I'm desperate - since a couple of days every time I restart my computer iTunes library is empty, I have to move all the content to the library again. And subscribe to all the 39 podcasts again!!!
Next day... everything starts from the beginning!
I've read the support pages for iTunes and found out that my iTunes doesn't save an "iTunes Library" file in the Music/iTunes folder. Instead, it creates hundreds of temporary files (iT 1.tmp, iT 2.tmp, iT 3.tmp, and so on).
It happened before upgrading to iTunes 10 - I upgraded thinking that it could help, but nothing changed.
Anyone had a similar problem? Please help me!

Yes, I moved the iTunes folder to the shared folder
Made an alias and moved it to my Users/myhome/music and removed the alias symbol.
If you moved the entire iTunes folder and created aliases, that would be the reason that iPhoto and iMovie can't find the proper file. You should only have moved the 'iTunes Music' folder
Many applications don't perform well when files are to be opened and stored using an alias.
I'm pretty sure iTunes creates an updated .xml file every time you make changes, but it's at the wrong location for iPhoto and iMovie to find it.
I tried what you did, by moving my (test) iTunes folder to the Shared folder, create an alias, renamed it to 'iTunes' and put it at ./Users/Username/Music.
Neither iPhoto and iMovie were able to find my (test) music files.
Those apps. will only look at ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes for the .xml file and obviously cannot find it using the alias.
I tried the same procedure using a symbolic link (a 'better' alias) and that worked out alright. You can create a symbolic link by using the Terminal (take a look at this brief tutorial), but it's more convenient to use SymbolicLinker. After installing it, you can then easily create a symlink of a file or folder by control-clicking on it and choosing 'Make Symbolic Link' from the contextual menu.
If you want to know more about symlinks in general, take a look at this Wiki or Google for "Symbolic Link Macintosh" (without the quotes) to find more articles.
While symlinks do work in this case (at least on my system), I will give you the link to the article which describes the 'Apple preferred way' to share your music (in case symlinks don't work on your system).
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer tells you two methods. You can use either of them.

  • ITunes Creating Dupilcate Music Files on my Computer

Having investigated thoroughly I can say that, when creating a library or at some point during sychronisation, iTunes is...
    1) Creating duplicate mp3 files on my PC's hard drive, i.e. two copies of every song on an album;
    2) Splitting songs out of compilation directories and creating new directories by artist for each song, e.g. my compilation album directory for 'Punk Jubilee' no longer exists and, in its place, I now have 20 or so new directories in the root of 'My Music' containing one song for each of the respective artists.
    3) Similar to (2) as above, where an artist is named as supporting another artist on a song on their album, a new directory is created referencing both artists containing the song in question.
    All very odd. Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Chris.

Having researched further I think the affect is due to allowing iTunes to 'keep iTunes music folder organised' - see advanced tab on preferences. Simple solution is to set the sync option in preferences to warning you if it is to change ANY data on your computer and to also disable auto synching of music. Also, keep a backup of your music library just in case iTunes somehow manages to screw it up. Whoever designed the iTouch/iPhone deserves a medal. The designer of iTunes deserves to be shot!

  • Creating an xml file from a playlist - message for iTunes staff

When I created an xml file from a playlist I noticed that in the xml file the track name was merged with the artist name in this manner "I want you - Bob Dylan".
That was hardly a problem as I could easily correct this in the FileMaker Pro environment.
But subsequently I found out, that within iTunes the track name was similarly changed to the same format. Apparently this happened when iTunes created the xml file and inadvertently also changed the track name within iTunes.
It can easily be corrected by entering File/Info, but I had over 10.000 songs in that list and it will take a lot of time. I have to do this, as I created earlier for each song a file path in FileMaker Pro, which are unrecognizable now.
Could you please correct the xml file creating procedure?

I must confess that I can't reproduce this result myself anymore.
I created the xml file in iTunes via File/Library/Export Playlist/xml structure (I translate the Dutch terms loosely) and subsequently I imported the xml file into a Filemaker Pro via File/Import/xml.
The xsl style sheet looks ok.
It looks like a freak of nature.
Still I have the evidence in my iTunes playlist, where I have another 9000 clicks to go to repair the damage.
Let's forget about it, until it happens again.
    Thanks for your time.

  • After having upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard, the following error message pops when I try to access iTunes: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a new version of iTunes".  I cannot now access iTunes.  How can I resolve

After having upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard, the following error message pops when I try to access iTunes: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a new version of iTunes".  So, now after the upgrade, I cannot access iTunes.  How do I resolve this??
    Thanks

zepel has it, but perhaps some more detail will help.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • PLS files as web links won't open in ITunes; still say Winamp

Hello.  I apologize if this has been answered, but I searched to the best of my ability, and none of the answers I saw applied to this question.  They all seem to say that I should set ITunes up as my default Internet music player, but that option doesn't seem to exist any more.  I've seen things that tell me to go to  preferences -> advanced -> general, but that general tab isn't there any more.  I can't find a setting for "internet music player", so I thought I'd ask here.   I recently uninstalled Winamp because of various annoyances, knowing that ITunes can do everything it could do and more.  However, now, pls links won't play from either IE9 or Firefox.  I can download the pls file and play it that way by just double clicking it.  I've used the "Default Programs" method recommended for Windows 7 to make ITunes the default player for these files, and it works perfectly until I try to click on a web link.  When I save the pls file, the "File Type" combo box to the right of the file name edit box says "Winamp .pls file".  I'm guessing that the browsers are checking some other area and are finding Winamp as the pls player, trying to find it, failing, and returning to the web page with no error.  How can I fix this?  ITunes works perfectly except for web links.  I can't tell by trying other files because I have plugins that play all the other files I have found.  How do I make ITunes do this?

Hi, Ed2345.  I apologize for clicking the "Correct Answer" button accidentally.  Firefox already has ITunes listed as the default player for "Winamp playlist files" which are .pls files.  I've gone to a few radio stations, some with AAC streams and some with mp3 streams and the results have been the same.  ITunes should be starting for these Winamp playlist files, but that's not happening.  How can I add the equivalent of a file extension setting in the browser?  These seem to be organized by MIME type.  Can I add an extension handler, or perhaps is there a MIME type missing?  If so, how do I add it in Firefox?  I don't see a "New" button.
    V/R,
    Brad

  • What is causing this?  The file "iTunes Library.itl" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged) 4".  This happens everytime I start iTunes lateley.  Help!!!

  • .pls file in iTunes is messing up MYOB accounting program

When importing data and programs into my new Dell Vista computer I find that another program I own called MYOB accounting package will not display the correct financial data because iTunes has set itself up to be the program to open all .pls files. Unfortunately, the data files in MYOB also have the extension .pls
I am not able to get the iTunes check box to uncheck this selection (Set Default Programs>Set Program Associations). Some of the other check boxes allow me to toggle between on and off -- but not this box!
When I try to open my financial data from within MYOB it shows me iTunes or it says it is not MYOB data.
How do I force iTunes to "release" control over .pls extensions?

Don't change filenames. iTunes will name the file based on the track name.
How can I make it stop do this?
Edit what you need to in iTunes.

  • How can I create my own iTunes music file?

I have an iPhone and want to put music on it. My son has created an iTunes application on our home computer and has dowloaded all his songs to it. I thought all I would have to do is to create a new user name or folder for my music and dowload away, but it does not appear to be that simple - or maybe I am simple! I created a new file and downloaded some music I had purchased from iTunes into the folder, but somehow all the songs went into my son's folder. Is there an easy way to to this so I can keep my music separate from his? Thanks!

Apparently classes like SoundbankResource and Instrument in the javax.ssound.midi package allow us to do that but I don't really understand how they work. The way the code is structured...
A Soundbank is a set of Instrument and/or SoundbankResource (An Instrument is a type of SoundbankResource and is just a subclass)
A SoundbankResource appears to be a class that contains either
    (1) Intruments
    (2) Sampled audio data
    (3) MIDI Sequence data
Regardless of what the SoundbankResource provides, all it is is a wrapper around some sort of data object. It's job, in essense, is to return whatever it is holding in response to a getData() request.
In order to utilize a SoundbankResource, you'd have to wrap around an object that whatever Synthesizer you're using is capable of playing.
Probably the easiest way to implement your own custom Soundbank without using a soundbank editor (which may or may not work with JavaSound's engine when all is said and done) would be to write a custom Synthesizer that plays short WAV files, and build SoundbankResource objects to wrap around said short WAV files.
