Creating JPEG's from iMove .dv stills

I would like to take still frames of an iMovie file and put them on a website. Does anyone know how to create "valid" jpeg files from .dv iMovie stills? I tried just renaiming the .dv files to .jpg and .jpeg but when you attempt to open the files with something other than iPhoto (Paint Shop Pro for example), you get an invalid jpeg file message. I also get a "no preview available" message when i send the files to someone via email. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

  • Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software

Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
    I will appreciate your assistance.

  • How to create a dvd from iMovie '11

I have created a video in iMovie and am trying to transfer it to a DVD.  However, there is no Export function.  When I share the movie to a file it uses a .mp4 format which is then not able to be be burned to a disc.  In the past, the extension was .mov and I was able to create a DVD without any problems.

    You need iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Creating a DVD from iMovie '09

I have created a movie using still images from a trip. When I send this project to iDVD there is a noticeable fall off in quality. Is there a way to create a DVD without having to sacrifice quality in the process?

    Hi
Is there a way to create a DVD without having to sacrifice quality in the process?
    Simple answer is NO
But there are several layers to this.
    A. DVD is as standard only SD-Video - there are no HD-DVD (to be mentioned)
    B. iMovie shows a much better picture than any DVD can support
    C. Share to iDVD - Is not the choice I make - I do "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (Not HD) and in iDVD click Media Button - Movie and select it here. This gives as good result that iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 can do.
    D. What file format on the photos used is of importance - I use .jpg - NEVER .bmp
    E. iMovie'08 to 11 - are not the optimal choise if one do a SlideShow or a Movie with lot's of important photos - as they all just delivers every second line over to iDVD = Loss of definition. Better is iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version or for SlideShow - FotoMagico™ - As they all delivers full interlaced video to iDVD.
So as You see - a simple question - doesn't allways have a simple answer in spit of that it's a Mac and so on.

  • How do I create a DVD from iMovie when iDVD is no longer included in iLife (Lion).

I've been doing video editing for many years on PC using the Pinacle software. I have for years wanted to switch to a Mac that is known to be far better for this purpose than PC. A few days ago I bought an IMAC 27 inch, 3.1 MHz and was impressed with the Imovie program until I was going to burn the project onto a DVD as I had read about and explained in all Apple stores I've visited.
I realize to my great surprise that in the Lion version is no longer possible to burn a DVD using IDVD as mentioned in the help menu and in the Appel documentation online. I have tried with various other applications as well with no success. It is completely incomprehensible that Appel actually has removed this option from Ilife (IDVD) and I feel cheated.
I have now spoken with three different people from the support and none of them can give me a good explanation of how to burn an Imovie project onto DVD with this new operating system (which actually is a basic need). All documentation I find on internet and in the help section refers to iDVD, which is not included in Lion, and it does not even appear that I can buy the program separately. The new operating system is marketed as an improvement and this I find misleading advertising when such a basic need as creating a DVD is no longer possible (or extremely complicated). I do not experience that I have received the product I have been informed about in several stores and on Apple's website and considering of course to raise the entire purchase.
Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD? I want to create both a DVD frontpage and chapters as I have been doing on my pc for years.

Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD?
You can't.  You MUST buy iDVD.
Tell Apple how you feel.  They do read these comments, and often react.  Be nice.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
(On the above link, you will notice under Mac apps they do indeed show, iDVD!)
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29. You WILL get iDVD.
or if you like downloads, go to the Apple Store via the Store button at the top, (not the App Store) and look for iLife 11 it will list iWeb and iDVD.  It IS available online.

  • Creating DVD's from imovie projects: quality issues

Currently have a HD project created in imovie, when burn to a DVD, using the best quality setting there is still a very noticeable decrease in quality compared to viewing in imovie. Any suggestions on maintaining the HD video quality

You need to use Toast to burn HD DVDs. iDVD cannot do this.

  • Create DVD directly from iMovie?

Do I need iDvd or some other software to create a DVD that can be shown on TV? I can´t find a burn-button in iMovies. I´ve exported it to Quicktime and burned a DVD from there, but it can only be shown on the Mac, it´s not compatible with my DVD-player...

You need disk authoring software to do this. There are several options. Three of them cost money. One of them is free. I know which one I would try first, but I have no personal experience with the free option, except that people seem to like it.
    1) Free. There is open source software available called Burn.
    2) You can get iDVD by Apple. It is not sold on the App store, and has not been updated in several years. It is available if you buy the retail copy of iLife 11, iLife 09, iLife 08, etc.
    3) You can get Compressor, by Apple. It costs about $50 in the Mac App Store. It is a powerful tool for Pros.
    4) You can get Toast by Roxio.
Once you have disk authoring software, you can use iMovie's Share menu to SHARE/MOVIE, SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME, or SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER. You then use this movie in the disk authoring software.

  • How can I create MWV file from iMovie that is compatible with Windows

    Hi Folks:
I have have an iMovie project that I need to share as a WMV file that I can upload to a website that is then able to be opened in a Windows browser.
I've already created a QuickTime version that seems to work in Mac and Windows browsers. Just need a way to create a WMV file that works.
I have purchased software (Flip4Mac WMV) that lets me make a WMV file but the files that I make with that software open up in Mac browsers (Firefox and Safari) but will not open in either Firefox or IE for Windows. The windows browsers both report that the page is not available. One of the options is to refresh the page. I do this on Win 2K IE6 and the movie is played in Media Player in a pane at the left side of the browser. On Windows XP IE 7 the page just does not produce anything that is useful.
Anyone able to tell me what I should do to make the WMV files OK for Windows or some software that actually creates WMV files that work on Windows? Or is this a Web Page Formatting problem?
Is it something I am doing on the site? I am using the "embedding" technique recommended by Apple to use a JS function to embed the file in a web page as shown below: (slightly modified)
    function InsertMovie(movie)
    document.write('<object CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" width="320" height="256" CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">\n');
    document.write('<param name="src" value="movies/' + movie +'" />\n');
    document.write('<param name="controller" value="true" />\n');
    document.write('<param name="autoplay" value="false" />\n');
    document.write('<embed src="movies/'+movie +'" width="320" height="256" autoplay="false" loop="false" controller="true" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/"></embed>\n');
    document.write('</object>\n');
This works in that the movie is presented to the Windows browsers are presented with the movie but they don't want to display it. I have two versions of the Movie and the one that's an H264 encoded QT movie loads fine in both IE and Firefox on Windows with QT installed. It is the WMV file that is not being handled as I would like.
Any help would be appreciated a great deal. In fact, I will give a registration code for RollingCredits to anyone able to solve this problem for me.
I know, resorting to bribery could be considered bad form but I am in need of a solution. And I know there are a lot of smart people out there.
    Cheers
    David

Are you saying that my problem is that I am not using
the correct software to create the WMV file or that
VisualHub is a less expensive alternative.
My problem seems to be that the file that I create is
not being recognized by the browser -- not that it is
    not a WMV file.
As I'm sure you know, WMV, like QuickTime mov files, come in many flavors. VisualHub may give a slightly different 'flavor'.
After I made my original post, it occurred to me that Flash video is probably a more universal solution to your problem. Had you considered Flash video?
But your suggestion(s) to try VisualHub have not gone unheeded.
It's the least expensive way I've found so far to create Flash video files.

  • Great output from iMovie with still photos

I have made a great movie using just stills in iMovie.

    Just tried to be witty.
One starts to associate in a predictable way - some times. As my fellow student.
    Have no AppleTV
    Have no broad-band internet - still 50kb modem V.92
So my interest is howto get as good result possibly to share - and DVD or BD-DVDs
are the only solution I've got via iM'08 or 09 or 11
Else (iM6/FC) - I copy back To Camera or if small save out as QT on DVD or BD-DVD.
Wish I could figure out a way to get all funny things in iM'11 and over in HD resolution
    on just anything.
    - Will try if I can get it out on USB-memory - one way or another.

  • How do I create a DVD from iMovie with menus? What iDVD use to do!

iDVD has disappeared on my new MacBook Pro, so how do I create a DVD with menus and everything?

    Hi
You can not do that - without any DVD authoring software as iDVD.
    So either
    • Treat to return Your new Mac (within 14 days) if Apple doesn't give You iDVD
    • Buy a second handed iLife'09 (pref as You then get all Themes - not so in iLife'11 - AND - after program-up-date they will be the same version anyway)
    • Buy another DVD-authoring software as Roxio Toast™ (costs a bit - contanin lot's of other things too - that was of great value to me (not so to everyone)
    • Use the free (and very simple/basic) BURN™ - as You at least can get Your Movie onto a Playable DVD
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Create a DVD from imovie

    Hello,
First I never bought iLife so I don't have iDVD.
I just made a video using imovie and would like it to be in DVD format.
Is there a free way to create a DVD in mac os?  If no then I can quickly switch to Windows (bootcamp) and use Windows DVD maker.
I don't have time to run to a store and buy iLife.

I've seen people recommend Burn, but I haven't used it or know of its capabilities.
You might find something else here: https://www.macupdate.com/find/mac/dvd

  • Creating JPEG file from .MOV video

How do I (or can I) create a "snapshot" JPEG file of a paused .MOV video file using Quicktime? Thanks for you help!

The free version of QuickTime will allow you to take a .bmp picture of the current frame. Just do "Edit" then "Copy" and you'll be able to paste this .bmp file into any program that will take it.
If you paste it into Paint (Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint) then you can choose File -> Save As... and choose .jpg or any other supported format as your type.
