Creating links to files

I want to create a local hyperlink, so to speak, to link scans of receipts to an accounting program - Money 2.5.4, by Jumpsoft. I've scanned the receipts in small .jpgs and would like to link each transaction to its receipt.
Any ideas on how I might do this? Am I even in the right forum?
Thanks in advance.
W Baker

Let me add that these proposed links wouldn't be in some accounting field or spreadsheet cell, just in plain text in a "comment" area.
Thanks.

  • Sun Studio 11 do not parse make output and create link to file?

    Hi,
Running Sun Studio 11 and can only get file links in the output window when I run a make command that uses CC -g (debug option). We have integrated other tools into our make system (flexlint, cppUnit..) and even though we make sure that the syntax is exactly the same as the compiler output and matches regular expression under tools->options->building->make settings->error expression, it doesn't work. Why do you have to debug compile to get sun studio to create a file link in the output window? Doesn't sun studio just parse the text from the make command?
example of flexlint output for which no link is created:
"/vobs/project/oss/fm/fm4/fm-fmalib/fmbal/fmaaulib/src/FMA_List.cc", line 440: Error 84: sizeof object is zero or object is undefined'
example of make debug output for which we do get a link:
"/vobs/project/oss/fm/fm4/fm-fmalib/fmbal/SunOS5.10/inc/FMA_alarm_record.hh", line 1310: Warning (Anachronism):Info "static" is not allowed and is being ignored.

I'd second Maxim's suggestion: try NetBeans 5.5 with C/C++ Development Pack. The official release of NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack 5.5 has happened a few days ago. You can download it from
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/all.php?b_id=2284
Some of the changes between the beta3 build and FCS are:
    * Significant performance improvements in the code parser resulting in faster results in the Class View and Code Completion
    * Programs now run in an external terminal (system dependent) by default. This allows better input control
    * Significant performance improvement in the debugging module
    * Significant functionality improvement in the debugging module
    * New project type "C/C++ Project From Existing Code" which simplifies creating a project from existing code
    * Macro support in code completion
    * Hyperlink navigation for macro usages and #include directives
    * Reformat code
    * Code folding
    * Code completion
All these features will appear in next Sun Studio release, so you can
consider NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack 5.5 as a preview of new
    Sun Studio IDE.

  • How to create link for pdf file in discoverer worksheet

    Hi All,
I would like to create a link for pdf file into discoverer report (worksheet).
So that i can open linked pdf file using worksheet link.
Can any one tell me about this?
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
I think the best way to do this is to use a database directory so that you can access your pdf file as a bfile. Then create a mod_plsql procedure that sets the mime type and downloads the pdf file. You then create a calculation in the EUL then returns the URL to your mod_plsql procedure. You can then include this calculation as a hyperlink in your worksheet.
It is not as difficult as it sounds. Please let me know if you need anymore details.

  • How to create links to different files on the same page?

    Good day to all again,
can someone please guide me through creating several links to different files on the same page. In other words, I am creating a photo page where my links are called Gallery 1, Gallery 2, etc... I would like to create links so when the User clicks on Gallery 1, they see Gallery 1 slide show in the frame; when the user then clicks Gallery 2, then they see Gallery 2 slide show in the window.
My slide show files are done and I am using GoLive CS2. I have no knowledge of JavaScript or ActionScript/Flash.
    Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi Diana,
I'm a professional photographer and in the process of getting
my finished site published. I used Coffeecup Photo Gallery. You can
create multiple albums on the same page. Do a Google search for the
address. It's easy, inexpensive, and it works. I tried to do this
with the Photo Gallery in DW and FireWorks--but couldn't get it
right. CC uses Flash and Javascript.
    Good Luck

  • How do I create links in a file like a table of contents to different sections in a .pdf document?

I'm trying to take multiple files and create one large (165 page) document but would like to create links to the different "chapters" within the document.

    LH,
You may (you can see Groups in the Layers palette with the layer expanded):
    1) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+G to Ungroup ;
    2) ShiftClick the circle to deselect it; if it is still a Group (all of its own), Ungroup again;
    3) With the Centre Reference Point ticked in the Transform palette multiply the W or H value by 1.1 (just add *1.1 in the box) and Ctrl/CmdEnter to keep proportions (this is to make sure that they are long enough);
    4) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything again and Pathfinder>Divide (this will make pie pieces);
    5) Drag over the centre with the Direct Selection Tool and press Delete (this will rid you of the inner parts of the pie pieces so you just have the outer rim in pieces).
This should give you the 30 independent curved lines forming the circle, two of them with an extra (original) Anchor Point.

  • Creating and Saving File Links

Hi, been searching the forums and internet for my answer but can't seem to find the answer.  I have a PDF that I am creating links to other PDFs on an FTP server.  When users clicks on the link, the files automatically open in the reader.  Since the files are pretty big, I would like the users to have the option to either save the file or open the file (that way they don't have to wait for the file to download before saving).  Right clicking on the link does not give me the option to save the file.  Is this a setting I need to use when creating the links to give the option to save or is there another keyboard command?  Thanks for any assistance.  I am using Acrobat Pro 8.1.3
    JT

    G'day JT,
When using Acrobat 8 Professional -
The right click context menu associated with an Acrobat web link contains:
    --| Open Weblink in Browser
    --| Append to Document
--| Open Weblink as a New Document
    --| Copy Link Location
Adobe Reader does not provide this.
So, what is available will be a function of what the end-user has.
For either Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
Edit > Preferences > select the Category "Internet"
In the Web Browser Options pane "Display PDF in browser" can be selected (default) or can be unticked.
Selected => A PDF in web space is displayed in the browser.
Unticked => A PDF in web space is downloaded and rendered by the PDF viewer identified to the OS.
But, this is a User controlled setting.
Looking about, you may come across "app.launchURL()".
To quote from a post by Thom Parker over at the Acrobat User Community,
"In Acrobat 7 the "app.launchURL()" function was added to the Acrobat JavaScript model.
This function has an input argument for forcing the web page to open in a new window.
If your users are on a later version it will work for them.  Look it up in the Acrobat JavaScript Reference."
However, this would still open the target PDF - there'd be no "save target as..."
It might be that to have a "save target as..." option you may have to provide an HTML file with links to the PDFs.
    Be well...

  • Creating links to Word, PDF and Powerpoint files

I need advice on how to create links to Word, Powerpoint and PDF files in my Captivate project.  How do I also make sure that when my file is published, those links can be accessed by the reader.  I am new to this process.  Thanks!

Yes. You can place the linked file in your zipped folder. Here is a recommended workflow.
    1. Add a button (Smartshape or regular button) to the slide.
    2. Assign the Open File or URL action to the button. In the URL field, specify the file name (say, Sample.PPTX) which you want to link to.
    3. Click the down arrow button next to the URL field and select New so that the file launches in a new window.
    4. Save and publish your project to a folder.
    5. Go to the published folder and place the linked Sample.pptx file in the folder.
    6. Zip the published folder.
Absolute Path is where you give the full path of the file's location including the folder structure. For example, C:\<UserName>\Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects\Sample.pptx. If you use this, then you have to maintain the same folder structure in the published folder as well, which is impractical.
Relative Path, in this case, is where you just give the file name and make sure that the file is in the published folder.
Just Google and you will find several examples of absolute and relative paths. You will even see that you can define sub folders if required.

  • How do I link external files (.pdf's) in the flash content please?  I'm creating a CD interface

    Hello
I'm new to Adobe CS software and would like some advice please.
My company uses a CD with a flash interface that opens via an .exe or .app file.  The original designer is on maternity leave at the moment but we need some content updates before she gets back and I’m deciding whether to redo the CD myself or to source a new designer.
So far I've been able to replicate most of the CD in Catalyst using the trial version but there is one thing stopping me from buying the software.  I can't find a way to link external files (specifically pdf's) via the flash content.  The CD is for instruction manuals so once the interface has been navigated the user needs to click on a button to open the desired pdf manual.
Is this possible in Catalyst or am I looking at the wrong software?
I can't write code and my experience is limited so I would appreciate help from someone who knows what they're talking about please and any software recommendation would also be great
If I need to outsource please tell me but bear in mind that I have been able to do all the design work and it's just linking the pdf's that I'm struggling with
Thanks in advance and for any help

    Hi Bear,
    Thanks for your quick answer.
Flash Catalyst currently prefixes all links with "http://", so you would need to save your FXP in Catalyst, open the FXP in builder, and remove the "http" so that you're just loading the local pdfs.
I tried your suggestion but couldn't get it working so I'm probably doing something wrong since I'm not very familiar with Flash Builder.
I created the button > on click > go to url interaction in Catalyst and saved the project (tried it using a PDF saved on our server and also my PC).
I imported the FXP and opened to "project name / src / (default package) / main.mxml / button name"
After deleting "http" I selected "export release build" and opened the new SWF and also tried the HTML; the new button just opened to my homepage instead of the PDF
I also tried deleting "http:" and "http://" which deactivated the button completely (I expect some coders will laugh at that but I am a noob )
Unfortunately linking to online files isn't an option for me so do you see what I'm doing wrong please?
    Thanks for your help

  • Linking image files created in Mac are broken on PC and Vice Versa

    Hello,
A fellow designer and I are sharing Illustrator files in the office but she is on a Mac and I am on a PC. Our linking image files are located in multiple folders on our company server, but whenever we open each other's files, all the links are broken and have to be relinked due to our different operating platforms. This can be very time consuming since the images are in different folders and there are many of them.
Anybody know how to fix this PC/Mac problem without dropping all the linking files into the same folder as the .ai file? I'm not the IT guy so I don't think that rebuilding our server structure is an option either...would cause too much havoc around the office.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Let me ask you something does this sound like a viable way to work?
The way to do it is as you yourself suggest to work locally with all the files in one folder so you cannot break the links and that you know where the art is at all times.
If the IT thinks this is a good way to work then let them create a script to save all linked files to a common live folder for the project so that both computers can find it.
But from what you describe it is just looking for trouble and might be exactly what the IT wants trouble so they can extend their job. In which case ther is  no solution.

  • Creating links to text files with Tomcat and JSP

I am trying to create links in a JSP page that bring up text files. Currently, the links point to a file format. When the links are clicked, however, the text files are not displayed in the web browser. When an "http:" format is used, the links point to terminal files that are not being written dynamically (and therefore are useless to me). So in short, I'm looking for a way to get these links to (1) point to text files on the network, and (2) get them to display in a new browser window. Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    TGD

You cannot expect Tomcat or any J2EE Server to give access to the Network files.
You need to design a different way to give access to the Users.
What you can do is write a proxy (HttpServlet) which can pass a request parameter as the file name. The Servlet can read the file and then paint it in the Client Browser Window.
    Hope this helps.

  • Update links in file created based on the template page

    Hello everyone:
    a) I have problems when update links in files crated based on
    a template page.
I read Dreamwaver (DW) help menu. Seems to me Dreamwaver is
smart enough to update links based on correct file structure.
I created a template file based on a sample page. Template
file saved to the template folder. Then I crated few pages based on
the template. I checked links in new files and found that link
structures are based on template folder, not based on files current
    folder position.
Please give me some suggestions on how to correct this
problem. If you know some good online tutorial or documentations
    please share with me.
    b) Can DW template update Navigation bar links correctly

I have Navbars imported from Fireworks into DW. Files crated

This means that you are entering the links manually, not
    using the Property
inspector and browsing to the target file. You should do it
    this way until
you understand how templates work. All links in a template
    file should
(usually) be one of three kinds -
    1. Document relative BASED ON THE TEMPLATE, e.g.,
    <a href="../whatever....
    2. Root relative, e.g.,
    <a href="/whatever....
    3. Absolute, e.g.,
    <a href=''
    http://www.example.com/whatever....
Anything else will always result in the Template folder being
    placed in the
path for the link when you create a child page.

    Yes, of course.

This could easily be one of your problems. Those menus are
    definitely
broken and should never be used.
