Creating more room in a photo

Hi,
As you'll see in the attached, the layout looks top heavy because there is not nearly
as much room below the lightbulb as there is above it.
Isn't there a way to make a selction of a piece of the bottom (or top), flip it and then
paste a few times to make it seem as though the photo has more space (and is seamless
-no line showing that the new space is a copy of a selected area from a different part of the photo)
on the bottom?
Thanks.

So many ways to skin a cat with Photoshop.  Sometimes CAF needs to be approached in smaller bites, but I tried fixing that corner and it was not doing a good job at all.  In fact it was doing a terrible job.
So change to the Smudge tool (a very usful and underused tool IMO) Experiment with brushe size, but go with about 5% to 10% of the image height. (I'll explain why later).
Set the strength to about 50%. and try a few practice strokes dragging the rays to the edge of the image.  If you are having problems with accuracy, touch down at the start point, and then again at the end point while holding down the shift key.  That will produce perfectly straight lines.
The one limitation with this technique is that it will produce parallel lines, where as you need radial lines.  That's why you need to keep the brush size relatively small.
OK, another way:
Copy the layer, and go Filter > Blur > Radial blur, and choose Zoom
The hard bit is estimating where to put the axis, but use your best judgement.
Click OK, and turn the layer off and on to see how well you placed the axis.  If OK, add a layer mask > Invert it > paint in the rays on the left with a big soft white brush.
Another way:
Copy the layer and bring up Free Transform, and move the center handle to the axis point of the rays.  Hold down the Alt and Shift keys, and drag one of the corner handles out to expand the layer by about 10% - 20%.
Use a layer mask as in the lst examples.
Personally I would use the Smudge tool, no contest, but the more tricks you have in your Photoshop toolbox, the better.

How do I create more room on my MacBook Pro so I can install Snow Leopard?
I've only got 4.something GB left and it says it needs 5 GB?
Which then begs the question, will I be able to do anything with the computer.
I think I need to get some stuff off, but do not know where to look up what is taking up the most room.
I have an extra hard drive.
    I have iDisk.
I have a Time Machine, but it backs up one of my three Macs.
    Thanks.

A utility like GrandPerspective is a good one for seeing what is taking up space on your hard drive.
Video and photo files tend to take up a lot of room.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Get an external hard drive on which to store some of your files after which you can
erase the data from your internal drive to free up space.
      5. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      6. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      7. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
On your device you can try restoring it as New.

  • What files are safe to delete to create more room on my hard drive?

I'm using my G-4 QuickSilver as my ProTools M-Box LE computer exclusively. What files can I safely delete to create more room on my hard drive for processing and speed?

Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash.

Monolingual is a program for removing unnecessary language resources from Mac OS X,in order to reclaim several hundred megabytes of disk space. It requires at least Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and also works on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It worked for me on 10.4

You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
The latest the hard drive enclosures support the newer serial ata drives. The drive and closure that I list supports only older parallel ata.

  • How do I create more space on my hard disk?

What's the best way to clean out my harddrive to create more room. How do I know what caches I can get rid of what I need to keep. Is there a good program to improve performance and clean out to make more space. Please advise. I have never "cleaned" my macbook and I know it needs it.

While deleting caches is normally safe, see Myth #4.
Note that your Library folder contains all of you Mail and attachments. If you've got a lot of email with large attachments, you can really fill up the Library folder.
Your user installed Fonts and Log files are also in there. If you have a program that is constantly writing log entries without cleaning it up, it could create a large file after a short time.
The Cache folder on my system is 1.22 GB with the total Library of 2 GB.
Everything else in there shouldn't be taking up much space.

  • My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos?

My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos? Or will the next time I back up lose all those previously backed up as it is a 'new' set of data?
I just want to find the easiest and safest way of not losing all my photos while being able to take more than my iPhones storage worth as it is already full - can someone help me please? I thought icloud was the solution to not uploading my photos to the mac but I'm not sure if the way it's going is working and don't want to delete photos or lose my phone and then find out what I'm doing isn't actually storing my photos permanently. Thanks

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,

  • I ran out of photo storage space while traveling, so I don't have my laptop. How to make more room (besides deletion)?

There's no more room on my iphone, and I won't have a laptop for another month. I thought turning on icloud on my phone would do the trick, but nothing is happening. I don't want to delete my summer-long trip photos! Any solutions are appreciated.

i use dropbox when on the go. you can upload straight from your iPhone.

Yes you can delete them. Removing them from the iPad has no effect at all on the Mac.

  • Can I delete photo to create more hard drive space as I just backed them to the iCloud ? Thanks

I just purchased 20gb of iCloud to create more space on my iPad. Is it safe to delete my photos from the hair drive now? Once deleted how can I view them from the iCloud

You should transfer your photos to the laptop/computer or upload them to cloud storage like Dropbox, Box.net or Sugarsync.

  • Creating more Albums under Photos besides Camera Roll

I have searched for this topic and all I see are vague responses from people about looking at the pdf manual for the answer or doing it in iTunes.  well, I have read the manual and have looked at iTunes and don't see a way.  Is there no way to actually create more albums under Photos in addition to the Camera Roll album?  If so, how is it down?  If not, is there any recommended apps that will allow this to be done?  Thank you.

Seems like a round about way to get photos from one album to the next, but oh well.
I did create a folder and synced that up.  That folder did show under Photos as a new album.  However, when I went to make another folder and synced that up, the first one I made disappeared.  Does it only allow for Camera Roll and one other album?  If Photos only allows 2 albums, is there any good app that lets me have more control and more albums?

  • How do I empty trash after deleting music, apps and photos from my iPhone to make more room for upgrading to iOS 8.1?

How do I empty trash after deleting music, apps and photos from my iPhone to make more room for upgrading to iOS 8.1?  It says I don't have enough room to upgrade so I have deleted some of everything but do not see an improvement in my storage space. Help?

    No need to empty anything.
You can update by connecting your phone to iTunes on your computer. This way you bypass the space limitations.
    Good Luck

  • HT201364 how do I remove iteams from my start up disk to create more space?

how do I remove iteams from my start up disk to create more space?

make sure you have a backup first. LIke with Time Machine.
drag stuff to the trash you don't want to save
like music, videos, photos, documents, apps you don't use anymore. Video, in particular, tends to take up a lot of room.
don't drag system files to the trash.
get an external hard drive. Don't buy a WD. reformat the drive with Disk Utility. Don't use any of the software that comes with the drive.
copy stuff you want to save to the external hard drive.
Once you've copied those items to the external hard drive, you can drag the originals to the trash.
    empty the trash.
    enjoy all your new space.

  • Can you import more pictures into a photo book that is already in work?

Can you import more pictures into a photo book that is already in work? I have already spent many hours trying to create a photo album but came across more pictures to choose from. However, I don't know how to get these new pictures into the "list" of potential photos for the book in progress. I can't stand the thought of having to start over by selecting the 2000 photos plus these new ones and starting all over again!?!

I have found more pictures that I want to include. They are, say, in a folder on my desktop. I can't simply pull a picture (or the folder) from the desktop and insert it into the album or the list of potential pictures across the top.
to import into an existing book (which is just a special kind of album) simply drag the photos from their source (the desktop in your example) to the book in the source pane on the left (not to the book in the library window but the book icon in the source pane
Likewise to use photos from your iPhoto library just drag them from the library to the book
I also tried imported the pictures, from the desktop folder, into iphoto, creating new event. I don't think there is a way of accessing that new event from the album in work/progress.
Likewise to use photos from your iPhoto library just drag them from the library to the book in the source pane on the left
I also tried merging the new "event" into an existing event that I had selected for the album. That doesn't work either???
That is correct - there is no connection between the source of the book and the book - the book stands alone and you add direct to it in the source pane exactly as you would add to any other album

I have 1,700 pictures and my phone will not let me backup , I have replaced my phone for power was going out every couple of days and did not know what to do , they send me a other phone with set up all my pictures from Ipad and phone must have filled icloud up.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
When you delete the account from your device, you will be given the opportunity to save Safari data, reminders, calendars and contacts to your device, which you can later merge with the other account once you login.
You won't be able to save your photo stream photos in the same way, so if you have any photo stream photos that are not already in your camera roll, you should move them there before you delete your account.
Your iWork documents can be saved to iTunes on your device, but if you have them on a Mac they would be much easier to save to your desktop there. You can move them back after you switch.
Notes can be shared to messages or mail and copy and pasted back after the switch. Although if you have a Mac, you may find it easier to do there. You could also use a temporary secondary account (see last item) to log into both accounts and copy and paste directly into your other account.
You can set up Mail forwarding at iCloud.com mail preferences (little gear icon-bottom left) to receive mail from your old address to your new one.
As an alternative to just switching, you might consider switching and adding your previous account back as a secondary account at settings > mail, contacts, calendars. You would still need to move your photos and iWork documents and save your safari data, but you'd have access to your old mail, contacts, calendars, reminders and notes.
