Creating & Moving Text Fields Causes Delays/Slowness

Maybe it's my computer, but I'm trying to create a simple PDF form using only text fields and it's very slow going. I'm adding the text fields to a 4MB PDF created in Illustrator that includes hi-res JPEG-compressed images. I need the file to be hi-res for end-user printing. The problem arrises right off the bat when I go to insert my first text field. I get the text field placed and then my curser goes to the watch, then the twirling beach ball. This lasts for about 30 seconds before I can even edit the formatting/properties. Once the program is done thinking, I go to create another text field. Sometimes this too requires 30 seconds of spinning beach ball and sometimes not. Either way, it's painfully slow as I have a couple dozen of these to add and tweak. I don't want to wait 30 seconds every time I try to tweak something. I'm running with 8 GB of RAM and while my Mac Pro is 4 years old, it has a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core. I'm running CS5 with Acrobat Pro.
Is there a setting I could be using that could help speed things up? It just seems strange that the computer/program has to do so much thinking after each placed text box... especially since there are no formulas/calculations being used. Unfortunately, I don't usually use Acrobat or create forms, so I'm somewhat of a novice user despite being a 20-year Adobe user.
And I suppose if the problem is the size of my original PDF created in Illustrator, can I create the form on top of a much lower res PDF and then transpose the form to the higher res version for distribution?

I suppose a possible solution is if there's a way to add the text form fields in Illustrator... or if there's a way to add an invisible marker (besides adding a rule line) that Acrobat will automatically read as a text field location?

Andy's reply will show you how to make a table scroll horizontally, but it will be tough to accomplish it in some sort of easily replicable way. I am working on a JQuery extension that will help accomplish this, but I have had my time invested in another project at the moment.

Creating Dynamic Text Field for Flash CS3 in Illustrator CS3

I've created a series of buttons in an illustration and made
them into movie clip symbols in Illustrator. I then created some
text fields for the button labels and assigned them as dynamic text
in the Flash Text panel in Illustrator.
When I import the illustration into Flash and test the movie,
I get this error message:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert

Creating new text field dynamically

Hi,
can anybody let me know how can we create new text fields dynamically in JSF.
Basically the GUI will have a button/command link ,when clicked should create a new text field and then when the user enters any value in the new text fileld the formbean should be able to capture the value.
so the user will have the choice of creating any number of text fields depending on the requirement.
is javascript the only solution for this or can we do this JSF also?

How can you create a text field without a label?

I am creating a form and need to create identical text boxes one below another and for space reasons do not want a label on each one. How do I do this without selecting multiple fields?

Sorry you can't remove the label of a field. When the Label is on the Left (either left aligned or right aligned) then you can resize the label (using drag and drop) but there is still a min width that the label must have. You can also change the Label to be Above but that might not work with your spacing either.

Resizing Text Fields Causes Adobe to Hang

Good Afternoon All-
I have a PDF of our company floor plan. I added text fields over each office with the person's name and telephone number. There are over 100 text fields. I created this form in Adobe Acrobat Pro 8. I have since upgrade to 10 Pro. When I open the form and try to resize one of the text fields, Adobe will hang for on average, 1 minute or two and then come back to life. It only seems to happen when I resize or try to move a text field from this PDF. I tried adding text fields into other PDF's and they resize/move fine without Adobe hanging. Does anyone know what the issue might be? I even tried opening it up on another PC that has Acrobat Pro 11. I also tried using the PDF Optimizer and making it compatible with Acrobat 10 and still no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wasn't able to (easily) find anything in the way of a textfield to type something into that you describe, but you can assign code for input textfields to detect when something changes in them and take action from that event. How you do it depends on which version of actionscript you are using.

How to create a text field in Oracle apps11i Forms.

I have the following requirement to modifiy the PO Receiving screen in Oracle apps 11i,
1. An additional field (No. of Items to recive) need to be created to the “PO Receiving” screen of Oracle apps 11i .
2. Once user mentioned the po num, PO Line Num and quantity in the newly created text field and when he/she click on the Find Button , the receipt lines (lines should be as many as the quantity mentioned in the newly created field) should be create in the receipt screen
Please let me know if this can be achived through Form Personalization or is there any other approach?

First and foremost; never under any circumstance should you modify an Oracle EBS form. This is a violation of the EBS License Agreement. Oracle has provided methods of capturing data that is not part of a form. I suggest you dig through the Oracle Applications Documentation and read up on using Descriptive Flex-Fields (DFF).

How do I create a text field that can be manipulated by the user?

I have created a form that will be changed by the user from month to month. In this form they may have the need to make some of the font bold.
The text fields that will end up being bold will not be the same every time so I can't format the field to be bold.
Is there any way to allow the user to be able to choose whether a text field is bold or not?

Thanks GKaiseril. When I do that and go to preview the form I see where the properties are listed as an option, but they are in light gray so I can't select them. Any idea why this is happening?

and when your doing Vf11Transcation select GOTO Billing Document Over view and select the line item
go to text there your text type will determine.

I would like to create a multiline text field that the field starts on one pages but finishes on another?
Here is an example of what I want. The text starts in the top of the box (1st box) and would continue in the bottom box (2nd box).
I have Adobe Acrobat X (version 10.1.1) on Windows 7. I know I could use Live Cycle to create an expandable but I need to import this form to Adobe Form Central after therefore Live Cycle isn't an option.

I found a possible solution to my question which is working OK with form central (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/303650)
Here are the limitation of that option (that I found out so far):
it cuts in the middle of the word you are writting when switching to the next box
you can't copy and paste a long text
if you remove text from the first box i won't move text from the second box back up
you can't go back with your cursor from the second box to the first (e.g. to edit you text)
Any other ideas of how I can get that done?

Moving text field

hi im trying to understand how to fix the text field at the bottom of the conversation form .
when i append the form after a function called history ,it keeps pushing the messages which in my program is a string item .
but what im trying to achieve is to fix the text field at the bottom of the form as default is the text field is fixed at the top of the form . I have given the code below for reference .

This code just always appends his at the end of the form, thus moving textfield "up".
To keep textfield at the bottom, use insert instead of append when adding his to form:
conversationForm.insert(0, new StringItem(null, his)); // insert at top of the formor, if you want most recent his to be closer to bottom, use size about as follows:
conversationForm.insert(conversationForm.size() < 2 ? 0 : conversationForm.size() - 2,
new StringItem(null, his)); // insert above the last item; calculations might need some tweaking

How do I create a text field that automatically enters the same info on proceeding pages

I know this is a basic question for Acrobat Pro, but I'm a newbie at it. Basically, I work with pdf forms in education and I would like to figure out a way where if I enter for example someone's birthdate in page 1, and it automatically enters it in pages 2, 3, 4 and so on of the same document.
Also, along the same lines, is there an easy way to be able to edit multiple pages of a document at once. Example: A lot of the people at my office that use the copy and paste feature in the pdf documents, and often overlook changing the "he" to a "she" and "his" to a "her" and as a result we end up with filled forms that use the incorrect sex.
I apologize in advance if I'm not being very clear, but is the best way I can describe my problem.
