Creating multi-colored brushes in PSE 8

OK, I am having a really hard time finding information on this...maybe because it can't be done, who knows.  Maybe you all do, I hope!  I am very interested in using Photoshop brushes.  I have PSE 8 and I have a general understanding of brushes...I know how to upload, change color, transparency, etc.  What I don't know is how do I make a butterfly look like a multi-colored butterfly instead of a pink butterfly or a gray butterfly?  I am assuming I need to make several layers, but beyond that I'm lost.  I just can't seem to make it look right when I try to color in with different colors.  I hope all this makes sense and someone can help.
Thanks in advance!

She states it's also for PSE 7, but I would think that would be very similar to PSE 8, but I can't seem to make it work as I don't have the same set up she's describing.  If someone maybe could see what she's trying to explain and maybe figure out how to take her instructions and apply them to PSE 8.  Usually, I can follow instructions that aren't from PSE 8 anyway, but this one I am having trouble with.

Thank you to everyone!
That particular dialog is in Photoshop not Photoshop Elements so she must have mean't PS7 not PSE7. All she's doing is adding a color overlay layer style so you can replicate that by adding your solid color onto a layer over it (fill layer with color or use a solid fill adjustment layer) and using the butterfly as the base of a clipping mask (clipping group...same thing different name).
Clipping mask tut:
http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/Photoshop_Elements/layers/layer_groups_clippi ng_masks/1_layer_groups_clipping_masks.htm
This will give you a solid colored butterfly. Change the solid color blend mode to color just as she does with the layer style. (Softlight blend mode might also do the trick for you.)
Another option that I think might produce better results would be to clip a gradient map adjustment layer to the butterfly...butterfly again base to the clipping mask...instead of a solid color. Gradient maps color according to the brightness value.
You can pop in a blank layer between the butterfly and the gradient map and use paint (white or black at low opacity...color is unpredictable) to to push the color to the desired result. (Black will map to one side of the gradient and white to the other with shades of gray mapping between these brightness endpoints.)

  • Created a multi-colored brush using pantone colors

    Hi, I am trying to create a multi-colored brush comprised of a single pantone color at different opacity settings, i.e. 100%, 75% and 25%. All of the multi-colored brushes I've seen have a variety of different colors, this is not what I need. Is this possible, or perhaps there are already brushes that will allow me to alter the color patterns. I would like to change colors and their respective opacity if possible.
    Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Mark,
    As I (mis)understand it, you may create an object with the desired colours and transparencies and shape(s), and then turn it into an Artbrush, which will then be stretched to fit the path and adapted in width through the Stroke Weight, or proportionally adapted, depending on your settings.

  • How do I create multi colored boxes using CSS3

    OS - Windows 7 using DW Cs5.5
    I need to create a screen with lots of equally sized colored boxes with text colours that will be visible easily within them.
    I have a class set up as follows:
    .yellowbox {
        font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", sans-serif;
        font-size: small;
        color: #F00;
         background-color: #FC3;
        text-align: center;
        vertical-align: middle;
        margin: 4px;
        padding: 4px;
        clear: none;
        float: left;
        height: 10em;
        width: 30%;
        position: relative;
        border: thick solid #F00;
    This displays a box that is yellow with a red border.
    With a set of 9 divs of this class, I get 9 boxes arranged as a 3x3 grid in a 960px wide container.
    How do I modify the CSS so that the background color changes with each box, and the text color is always in a color that is readable?

    First change the CSS as follows
    .box {
        font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", sans-serif;
        font-size: small;
        color: #F00;
        text-align: center;
        vertical-align: middle;
        margin: 4px;
        padding: 4px;
        clear: none;
        float: left;
        height: 10em;
        width: 30%;
        position: relative;
        border: thick solid #F00;
    .yellow {
       background-color: #FC3;
    .blue {
       background-color: blue;
    Then use the following markup
    <div class="box yellow">
    or

  • Need Help Creating A Multi-Colored Background Image??

    I'm trying to create a random multi-colored 200 x 200 image that will be used for a tiled background.  The attached sample image will illustrated the random effect that I'm trying to acheive just using different colors though.  Say if I wanted to use (blue, gold, white and light blue), is there a tool or option in Photoshop that will let me select the multiple colors then automatically generate that random pattern or one similar to it???  Or , is this something that I will have to do on multiple layers using filters, etc. then merge them all together??
    Any help will be appreciated.

    I think I've come up with something pretty close enough using a combination of Filters (Clouds, Brush Strokes and Noise) once I selected a foreground/background color combination.
    Thanks,

  • Color Brushes

    In Illustrator I can create a brush from a multi-colored item and apply it to a path. Is this possible in Photoshop? I defined a colored element as a brush but it paints in the greyscale equivalent (or whatever my foreground color is). I know about Color Dynamic but that only allows me to jitter between foreground and background colors.
    Thanks

    I know how to do it in Photoshop, but I did a quick look and can't find
    anything in Illulstrator or Indesign. I guess the problem is there
    wouldn't be a clear beginning and end to the gradient.
    anyway, if you're interested, in photoshop, create a linear gradient
    that takes up the whole canvas, then do Filter > Distort > Polar
    Coordinates.

    Looking for the setting for multi color circle effect for photoshop 11. I have used it before, but cant find it again. I was able to change the size  of the circle , and only had to pick one color it  did the multi color by its self.

    Do you mean photoshop elements 11 or photoshop cs4 (photoshop 11)?
    Anyway since you posted about photoshop elements 11 before.

  • Multi-Color Spry Menu Bar

    I want to create a multi-color spry menu bar by hand like the one on this page:
    http://projectseven.com/products/menusystems/pmm2/multicolor.htm
    Any tips?
    Thx.

    For those interested, I found a simple solution at Jim Cook's website, DWcourse.com:
    The best thing to do would be to create a new style class, say “oddball” and apply it to the odd link like this:
    <a href="#" class="oddball">Item 2</a>
    Then create a new style in your style sheet named ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.oddball:hover and apply your hover formatting there. At the same time you might as well avoid the inline style (it’s better to avoid them if you can) and create a new style, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.oddball to handle the normal state of the odd menu item.
    You can read the entire thread here: http://dwcourse.com/dreamweaver/spry-menu-bars.php
    Thanks.

  • Multi color string

    Hi Forum,
    I would like to know that the following phenomenon is a "feature" or "bug".
    I select a part of string and set the color with property nodes. This works well, I can make a rainbow text. But when I modify the string (and update the terminal) then the whole string is recoloured automatically with the colour of first character.
    I'd like to create a display where the text is continuosly updated, scrolles and different part of the string is coloured/highlighted. If the above mentioned method is not efficient can one show me the right way?

  • Create a continuous brush stroke using a base image? (ex. barb wire, vines, etc )

    Is it possible to create a brush that makes a stroke that's a continuous image and not just an instanced image as per usual?
    I've seen brushes that do this already, I just can't find any information on how they do it.
    Here is an Example
    Any help is appreciated!

    You could do it by stroking a path with a brush multiple times.  Once for the body of the wire — you make the wire rough by using a small splatter brush with close spacing, lots of angle jitter, and a tiny amount of scatter jitter.
    Then stroke again with the barbs or razors.  For regular barbs just give your custom brush a loose spacing, and set angle jitter to Direction.  You could make a multi-barbed brush, but not too long, or the angle jitter would move it off the wire.  Still doable if wire and barbs are on different layers so you could nudge the barbs back into place with FT warp.
    Layer Styles could give the wire depth and realism.
    OK... money where your mouth is time...   Two examples.  I shaped the razer brush with the Pen tool and guides.  The Barb brush was shaped from a DL'd image.  The wire in both instances is an 80% hard round brush (the slight softening to give it a touch of anti-aliassing on the curves).
    Spacing set wide, and Angle jitter to Direction. Those are the only brush dynamics I used.  Bevel & Emboss layer style to give it depth, and  Colour overlay because it is easier to experiment with layer styles.  The barb brush looked a bit thin, so I duplicated the layer a couple of times.  The look better on a black BG with the layer styles.
    I _tried_ to get the affect in your example image, but couldn't do it convincingly.  If I had a better mind's eye view of what I was trying to achieve, I think I'd have been able to do it.  But once you have the brush presets made and saved, it's a very quick and easy to do.
    If you do happen to have access to Illustrator, the Art Brush is pretty damn clever

  • Problem with brushes in PSE 9

    My brushes in PSE 9 seems to live a life of their own. Eks: I click in my photo with the eraser/dogde/clone and so on.. and the "work" is done in a different place in the picture. Hope you understand my explanation. Does anyone know what to do about it? It has been like this for a while.
    I have tried resetting the tools.
    Was also adviced to: Go to Edit>Preset Manager . . . don't change anything . . . and just click Done. That did not work either..

    When you right click on the desktop you don't see personalize at the bottom of the menu?
    Then this after clicking personalize:

    Don't download MacKeeper. Users complain about this app and it damages OS X. Also, Mac OS X knows how to take care of itself, so you don't need any other cleaning application that may damage OS X. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691
