Creating multi-touch interactions

Hello,
I'm exploring the possibility to create multi-touch interactions in Adobe Captivate (Version 7). Our goal ist to realize software simulations where users can solve tasks using gestures which are commonly supported on touchscreen devices (for example swiping across the screen or pinching an image to scale it).
I have found out that such interactions can be created in ActionsScript 3 but haven't found any information about this regarding CP7.
I know that Infosemantics offers Widgets which allow users to slide and rotate objects. But those functions are realized as "single-touch" interactions and are not compatible to html5.
Do you know about ways to realize multi-touch interactions for mobile devices in Adobe Captivate 7. Are there available widgets to realize this on the market?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Best regards
Stefan

Hello, wondering if there is now a work around or update available in Captivate 7.0 for multi touch interactions. For instance, pinch an area on the screen to scale it.

    Hi TRLJr,
    I am not personally familiar witih BACnet, but I did a little research. It looks like there are 3rd parties out there that provide OPC servers for BACnet. This would be the easiest way to communicate with your device. LabVIEW can act an OPC client through datasocket or with Shared Variables using the Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module (DSC). If you're looking for something more low-level, you might try some driver-level calls, although I'm not sure what to call to be honest. I don't think the regular TCP/IP VI's in LabVIEW will work unless BACnet uses TCP.
    Just some thoughts,

    Hi Patje.
    From the OS perspective, while we are not prioritizing multi-touch capability across multiple monitors, there are some scenarios that should work just fine right now:
    One multi-touch monitor and one regular monitorconfigured together.
    Two multi-touch monitors (but not with simultaneous input)
    Unfortunately, at this time you would need to use your mouse to drag from one monitor across to another. If you had two multi-touch monitors you could drag an object so that it straddles both monitors and then pick it up again on the other monitor. Unfortunately, there's just no way to bridge that physical space between the monitors in a fluid fashion at this time.
    Thanks so much for the question. It's interesting to think about this.
    Sincerely,
    Eliot - MSFT

  • IPhone and multi-touch

    I assume everyone has been following the iPhone announcement
    today:
    http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/live-from-macworld-2007-steve-jobs-keynote/
    I also am assuming that since it runs OS X, we can download
    Flash 8 & 9
    desktops apps (and even created standalone). Correct?
    But what we really need is to be able to tap into the
    multi-touch interface:
    1. stretching and zooming photography
    2. zooming and exploring maps
    3. getting all one's fingers into intereractive paint and
    draw tools, etc.
    I used a multi-touch at SIGGRAPH Boston 2006

    Is Adobe partnering with Apple to produce special fscommands
    for a iPhone
    centric version of Flash?
    [I have a huge load of apps and ideas, as well as a startup
    company if Adobe
    will pursue this!]
    Dr. Yechezkal Gutfreund - Adobe ACE for Mobile Devices

    Mark, right on.
    It would be a logical platform for Flash given some of its
    core
    philosophy in its design. However, the details about OSX and
    Safari
    support are still far too vague as you point out below.
    It wouldn't surprise me in the least, if they modified "OSX"
    to "OSX
    Mobile" as they move closer to deployment ... but, perhaps
    all they need
    is a kernel to technically call it "OSX"? Not sure.
    Speaking of which ... I think we are forgetting too, how
    stable Symbian
    and other mobile device centric OSes and platforms are. How
    long have
    they been working at "OSX for the iPhone", one year? perhaps
    two? Looks
    impressive in the demo ... but it's only a demo. How much was
    "off the
    cuff" and not stagged, we have no way of knowing ...
    My point being, a SBOD ("spinning ball of death") on a mobile
    device
    might equate to a death sentence (well, for a first time user
    iPhone
    experiences), *even* with all the great UI and features
    they've added.
    Here's hoping they do some exhaustive device and field
    testing before
    rollout later this year ... in order to limi the amount of
    software
    and/or firmware updates they have to do later on (we've seen
    that on the
    initial IPods to be sure) ...
    All in all, I'm hopeful, given Apple's track record with
    previous
    desktop versions of OSX and delivering stable releases (well
    more
    reliable and complete than say, Microsoft), they'll have
    something worth
    putting on the iPhone come end of year. Time will tell.

I have already followed severeal times instructions by other forums but it wouldn't work anyway. The driver is already installed but it doesn't work any way. I have also tried to enable it but it was already enabled. Rebooting and restarting my computer wouldn't work.

  • Multi-touch trackpad is not working correctly anymore

    My multi-touch trackpad is not working - it stops working after the first 10 seconds.
    It is since today.
    After reboot it works for the first 10 seconds - then it is like it needs to have a few seconds for reaction.
    Any idea for the permanent blocking of the cursor?

    cany_de

    That's really bizarre! I've been experiencing the same problems. Today my three/four finger multitouch gestures stopped working altogether! Nothing seemed to resolve the problem (restart, shut down, etc).I did however follow your advice of creating a new user account and logging in to see if multitouch works...low and behold, it worked! I then logged off and signed back into my primary user account and multitouch continued to work! This must be a software issue (I'm guessing). I just deleted the temporary user account and everything seems to be working fine. I set up a Genius Bar appointment for tomorrow - I'll see if they have any further suggestions.
    Thanks!

  • Multi-touch in java

    Hi,
    I am trying to build a project with multi-touch capabilities using java. I did some research and thought mt4j is promising.
    But now I find it difficult to design a page with swing radio buttons and buttons etc., I want to use swing components such as Radio buttons with mt4j framework but I couldn't accomplish it.
    Can you please let me know if there is a way to develop a multi touch application in java using swing alone or any other good way of developing multi-touch features .

    how can we pass arguments to the run ()method?Create classes which implement Runnable that take your runtime parameters as constructor arguments and store them.
    eg: if your single thread method is   static void foo (int quantity, String name) {
        for (int i=0; i<quantity; i++) {
          System.out.println(name);
    // caller code
      foo(7, "wombats");Then you can make a runnable implementation thus:public class Foo implements Runnable {
      final int quantity_;
      final String name_;
      public Foo (int quantity, String name) {
        quantity_ = quantity;
        name_ = name;
      public void run () {
        for (int i=0; i<quantity_; i++) {
          System.out.println(name_);
    // caller code
      new Thread(new Foo(7, "wombats")).start();
    You could overload this method to take parameters in
    your class that implements the Runnable interface,
    and then call the base run() method.I don't get what you mean by this; Runnable is an interface so there is no base class run() method, and a run() overloaded with extra parameters method wouldn't get called by the thread.

  • Multi-touch, ibooks author, satisfactory outcome?

    A few months ago I was shown a multi-touch book made with ibooks author. I had published my memoir a year ago and realised early that distributors did not display indie authours. My book was completely invisible. I looked at the the multi-touch section at iTunes to find very few books available. Ok, so with ibooks authour I was able to present my book how I always wanted it to be, with galleries, sound samples, links and playlists. Making it was easy but my issues with iTunes connect have really done me in ... by the way WARNING: I have been told by iTunes connect you have one....just one chance to include a screen shot for your multi-touch book preview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you upload one on the first delivery! I shan't bore you with my issues or communication with them as they have been lengthy.
    They have published my book, however, my multi-touch is not on display. Still the shelves at the iTunes (AU) store look empty. They won't answer my questions on how books make it to the shelves and again the book is completely invisible.
    Any happy endings out there?
    Cheers

    Only available on the iTunes store......and that's another story. Can an Australian set up a US account?
    You can create an Apple ID for the US store without a credit card, and make purchases with gift cards for the US store purchased on eBay and the like.

  • Can't use multi-touch in macbook air on windows 7

    i just install windows 7 via bootcamp and install the bootcamp windows support.
    everythng seems fine, but the trackpad....
    I can use scroll up and down, but i can't tap to click..
    and i can't find the bootcamp in windows 7 start manual.
    anyone can help me?

    A Chrome extension is out which enable Bootcampers to swipe back/forth with two fingers for pages. You can get it here:
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mgegfjnccpnkdppohmfgnjalkediapkc
    Or search for it yourself:
    Swipe Gesture
    In google addon store.
    All credits goes to antimatter15.com for creating this. It's still at an early stage, but very useful indeed. And as seeing that swiping back/forth is one of the most used multi touch features (at least to my experience) this addon is a godsend. Also has no problem with people running virtual machines, as the addon can simply be turned off.

  • Multi-touch Recorder/Player

    I have an ArrayCollection that contains x and y values for the path of an object.( a "recording" of each step in the path generated by touchpoints during touchMove of an object). In short, I need a multi-touch recorder/playback.  I have the "recording" working and saving to the database.  Now, I need to animate the playback.  I want the user to be able to hit a play button and see all the objects animate along their previously recorded paths.
    How do I do this?  Do I use motionpath/keyframes?  If so, how do I generate the motionpath and keyframes dynamically from the ArrayCollection?
    The only examples I see about keyframes/motionpath are static hardcoded keyframes in mxml.  In my case, there can be many keyframes along the path and the number will vary.  And the number of objects in the ArrayCollection will vary as well.  (users touches screen with 4 fingers at same time and moves them).  My initial thought is looping through the ArrayCollection, create the keyframes, then play the animation.  But I don't know how to write the AS3 and there may be a better way?
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks,

    With help from Claudia and Chet, I think I'm getting close.  But, I get this error
    Error: Property x is not a property or a style on object X105292: TypeError: Error #1006: value is not a function..at spark.effects.supportClasses::AnimateInstance/setupStyleMapEntry()[E:\dev\hero_private_be ta\frameworks\projects\spark\src\spark\effects\supportClasses\AnimateInstance.as:1097]
    when running this animatePlay function.  I've verified that my target does have a x property. All of the target Xs and Os are on the screen in the correct locations with the correct x,y initial locations.  I'm guessing it has something to do with the looping, but I don't know what is causing this error?
    In the code below touchTargetsDP is an ArrayCollection that stores the saved targets (all the Xs and Os on the screen before the play starts). I loop through each target to populate the keyframes for each target in the inner loop. The keyframes for each target are stored in touchPathDP. All the keyframes and motion paths appear to be populating just fine, but when the the animation starts to play, I get the error.
    In theory, there should be instances of motionpaths/keyframes for each target, and each instance of animate should play for each target until all the Xs and Os targets move to their final x,y location.
    This is using Hero in Flex Mobile project.
    Anyone see anything in this code that might cause the error?  It is really hard to debug since the error is inside the spark AnimateInstance.as.

  • DMP Touch Interactive application response slow

    Hi,
    In our customer premise we deployed a solution which we have developed as a touch interactive application using a 3rd party Content Management System. This application contents are pushed to the DMP and stored locally. This app has more graphics and there is no Video involved. The content size is aroun 105 MB. We are using 3M touchscreen.
    The application is designed in such a way that when the user clicks on the tabs , it goes to that particular tab contents. The issue here is , when user clicks/touches the tab on the screen, it takes more time to respond, which means it takes more time to go to that particualr screen. So I am not sure how to reduce this response time .
    We are using the Cisco(OEMed) LCD 32 inch screen with resolution as 1366x768 which is said as native resolution. We use HDMI to connect to the DMP to the LCD screen.
    Please let me know how to increase the speed of the interactive application.

    JK,
    The first thing to do is to narrow the "response" time issue to either
    the 3M Touch driver OR the application itself.
    You can use another touch application (1 or more) to get a benchmark
    on the response of the Touch response.  If all applications respond
    to the touch with the same delay then the problem "may" be with the
    3M touch driver and may need some enhancements and tweaking.
    If the other Touch apps are faster to respond then your "Touch App"
    in question, the we are looking at an application issue.
    A common symptom seen with custom apps and performance is
    because the developers create the apps and workstations with high
    processors and fast video cards.  Therefore what seems acceptable
    performance on on the workstation does not translate to the slower
    DMP.
    Please provide the output of the STATUS MIB in a text file and
    upload here for review.
    Thanks
    T.

  • Example of 3D Widgets multi-touch book in store now

    Hi folks,
    "3D Titanic", the multi-touch book we worked on while trying to find out how to use 3D Widgets is online now.
    In the free sample there are a couple of examples of 3D Widgets, including showing animation capabilities.  When creating the 3D content, and seeing what was possible, there was no real documentation on what was possible ( other than use collada, and keep your objects under a certain detail ).
    We have found these features that work...
    - scaling, rotation and transform animation capabilities are possible.
    - reflections are possible
    - animations cameras work*
    And bugs...
    - minimising and maximising a 3D widget stops animations
    - moving the page slightly left or right stops 3D widget animations
    * - when you manipulate the 3D widget with animating camera, the animation stops and your rotation around point becomes very unpredictable
    Feature requests ( other than fix bugs )
    - allow for camera rotation limitations ( eg only rotate up / down by X degrees, eg 0 degrees down to not go through ground )
    - allow for animated cameras to not get interrupted, or at least to play once and then allow rotation around the final position target pivot.  In fact, when camera is rotation, have the option to either have touch speed up the camera animation to this end point ( eg 10x speed ), or allow an additional level of rotation when draggin the mouse on top of the pre-determined animation, and slowly "tween" it back to the predefined animation when touch is released.
    Top tip...
    - Always make sure to test on iPad 1.  If your 3D widget runs and looks cool on iPad 3, it currently also needs to run on iPad 1 ( there is no way to specify differentiate 3D models to be shown for different hardware )
    For anyone looking into incorporating 3D widgets into their iBook, hopefully our examples help identify what is definitely possible.
    Mal

    Hi Mal,
    Great to see someone pushing the envelope in terms of 3D capacity in the iBA forum - I did not realise that animation was possible, and the titanic iBook has been a great showcase of potential features.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Poly count. I have exceeded the recommended limit by 2-fold, but it looks great on iPad 3. Less great on iPad 1, but my intention would be to release with disclaimer that it is intended for 3rd gen onwards. Are the apple recommendations on poly-count hard-and-fast?
    2. How do you control the 3D camera position when exporting? Im using maya/PS CS6.
    Cheers,
    Iain

  • Multi-touch iBook on an iPhone?

    My company has recently submitted a Multi-touch iBook and received approval. Some of our customers have been confused why they can not open it on their iPhone.  This is not something I expected, but now that phones with bigger screens are available, I supposed these iBooks are more usable.  Is this a feature that Apple will introduce?
    Thanks!

    We are fellow users here on these forums, we won't know what Apple might be planning until if/when they announce something, but at the moment they can only be read on iPads - you can't open any ibooks created in iBooks Author on iPhones.

    Hi... and sorry by my english
    I need to know that my tx2 1025 with windows 7 is compatible with multi touch or only with the entries with two fingers...
    Someone have the answer?
    And one observation:
    The MVP and the Web cam softwares (version 3.0) doesn't work at the first instalation... The instalation finished succefuly but the programs doesn't open. trying to repair, I created shortcuts, and on the destiny, I wrot : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Media\Webcam\HPMediaSmartWebcam.exe" /MS
     So, it`s works for me... the programs can be loaded perfectly... But I don't know why it happens... xD

    Yea, I am having the same problem. I have the N-Trig 2.184 drivers, and I am trying to get it to use more than two fingers, but it does not let me. I contacted an HP representative and they just said, this driver does not support more than two fingers, while N-Trig's release notes for this driver says that in Win 7 build 7600, which I have, I am not limited to the number of touches. Any idea why? I don't have the same computer as the other person but I have the tx2-1300 but I doubt the screens are any different. I just bought this a few days back.

  • Multi-touch and a WinClone image

    I used a WinClone image of Vista from my MBP to create a Vista Boot Camp instance on my new iMac. It worked perfectly except that the Multi-Touch driver keeps trying to install itself via software update. I allow it to do so, I reboot, but the next time software update runs, it tries to install it all over again.
    Obviously, I don't need the Multi-Touch driver on my iMac, but for the life of me, I don't see how to get rid of it. I assume it's embedded in my WinClone image from my MBP (where it is required), but I don't see a way of removing it. I'd even be happy if it would just take the update and be done with it, but it doesn't do that either.
    Any thoughts?

    The best you can do. Is center your fingers in the center of the iPhone Touch Screen. And pull fingers outwards this will zoom in. or Double tap the area you want to zoom in closer to then perform the pinch or expansion of fingers.
