Creating multiple password protected pdfs

Originally this was posted else where on this site but under advice i have moved it to here
I have a requirement to produce about 500 pdf documents weelky for distribution within the company and each pdf needs to have its own diffrent password.
I have at least three ways to make the pdf's,and have got the 500 files produced but i cant see how to change the password between prints
for your information we are using adobe profesional 8, & distiller and the pdfs are being produced from excel 2003
Please any help on this would be apreciated,

I cant use certificate-based encryption becasue its going to 500 departments with constanly varing people and we have no reliable method of mainting a list of who should be in what department. So tha password option is nice and simple if you know the password you can opn the file.
Any idea where i can get information on writing a plug-in ? a web link would be very helpfull

Situation: I have a huge stack of PDF files and I'm using Photoshop CS5 to slice out previews and other things automatically, using a self-built javascript. Some (100+) of these PDFs are password-protected. I have the password to these files.
Problem: Every time the script tries to open one of the protected PDFs it will open a popup, stop the whole process and wait for the user to input the password.
Question: Is there a way to add the password to the open command of the app.open(...) function? Or more simply put, can this be fully automated?
What I looked at so far: "PDFOpenOptions", "app.open(...)", the javascript reference("photoshop_cs5_javascript_ref.pdf") in general.
Basic Example code:
var f = new File("path to some password protected PDF");
var d = app.open(f); //this will trigger the password popup
doSomethingWithMyDocument(d);
d.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have access to Photoshop CS6 as well, if that somehow solves the problem.

It is possible to do that via Scripting.
If you are unable to create such a Script maybe you should look up the chapter »Creating data-driven graphics« in the documentation.

How do I create a password protected pdf with watermark?

I need to put a watermark on a pdf and have it password protected. I'm using Adobe Acrobat X Pro. Got any tips?

1. Tools->Pages->Watermark
2. Tools->Protection->Encrypt->Encrypt with Password.
3.Save As (or Save if it's OK to overwrite the original PDF).

How to display in browser a password protected pdf file I created?

I created a password protected pdf file.
I want to display the file in browser so that viewers can only view it online.
It is better that viewers cannot download it.
But I donot know how to prevent viewers downloading the file.
Since the pdf is password protected, viewers don't have the password even they download it.
But how can I display the password protected pdf file in browser when I know the password?
Or is there a better to just viewers see the pdf file online and prevent them from downloading and printing it?

Any file on the web has to be copied to the local machine in order for the file content to be presented to the viewer. That's how the "www" is built. So, to make use of your web based PDF the file has to be downloaded to the local machine. This might be to the local machine's temporary internet / browser cache or (via a 'save this to my computer') to some other location on the local machine's HDD. Bottom line -- web based files get downloaded this is the case for protected file or a non-protected file.

OBIEE 11g having problems with password protected PDF files.

I have been able to get an analysis in OBIEE 11g to display PDF files.
However, some of these documents contain sensitive information and must be secured. Since anyone with access to the file name
could simply type in the proper path in the browser window, this is unacceptable. In order to try and prevent this, I created a pdf file
that is protected with a password.
Opening the file by itself, produces the desired results. The password is requested before the file will open.
When I open the file through my analysis in OBIEE, Adobe reader activates, but the password is not requested and the file does not open.
It is as if OBIEE is somehow not sensing that Adobee is asking for a password.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I created the original password protected PDF using Microsoft Word. I did this because I do not have a full version of Adobe Acrobat that allows me to create files.
On a hunch, I found someone that has a full version of Acrobat, and had them create a password protected PDF file. This file worked perfectly.
Apparently, Word is not strictly adhering to PDF guidelines, and OBIEE senses the differences, resulting in the file not opening properly.
Something to keep in mind for anyone linking to password protected PDF files in OBIEE.

IPad to wireless printer with password protected pdf files?

I have a iPad 2 connected wirelessly to a HP Photosmart 6520. I usually have no problem printing a variety of file and docs....including pdf files. My friend sent me some password protected PDF files today. I have the password and can open them just fine....but I can't get them to print. It just ignores me (no error message). Any suggestions?

I can create a pdf file using com.lowagie.text.pdf.PdfWriter and other classes in com.lowagie.text
But I want to make my PDF password protected. Is there any way to make it password protected while using com.lowagie.text API.

Password-protected PDF demands password in triplicate

I'm having problems with a password-protected PDF (created in Acrobat Pro 8 ) which opens fine with a single entry of the password when downloaded but when website visitors try to open the form directly in their browser it keeps asking for the password and will only open on the third password attempt (by when most visitors will have given up on it). Could you please tell me what is causing this phenomenon and whether I can fix it? TIA.

It looks like this issue may be limited to files that have been set to restrict the user's ability to print or edit the document (even after a password has been entered for viewing). I found that a password-protected PDF could be viewed in iBooks, but after I added the print restriction, I had the same problem you reported.

I would just ask the 3rd party that created the PDF if they could supply unencrypted files. If there is some reason they will not, I am surprised that they have not restricted printing. Normally when Acrobat security is set, you can not print to a new PDF, even if printing is allowed. One option is to provide the ID and password to the other folks who need to review the PDFs. On the surface, there seems to be a license issue with what you are trying to do and you may need to be careful that the company is not at risk. That is why I am suggesting to coordinate with the 3rd party.
Sorry. I don't have a solution but just the statement of concern.

Unlocking password protected PDF

I have Adobe Reader on my Android tablet and am unable to unlock a protected PDF document. It allows me to enter my user name and password as well as selecting the checkbox for "Remember my user name and password"
The issue I have is that it does NOT allow me to unlock the document.
The document is an eBook Collection textbook.
Please advise how to resolve this issue.
If Adobe Reader is unable to do this, is there another app for Android that would allow this?
I have no issues unlocking the same document on using Adobe Reader on my desktop (Windows 8).

I simply unlocked the password protected pdf (which had been created in acrobat 6) by using the drop down menu from "Secure" and choosing "Remove Security", I was then asked was I sure I wanted to remove security, answered yes and bingo it had no security!
My repro department were astounded I could do this with a trial program. My MD is alarmed and if some of our customers were aware they would be having kittens. (We do a lot of legal documents which have to be locked).
If you send me a password protected pdf I will see if I can return it unlocked (this works with V6 created pdf's and guess it would work with others?)

Opening Password protected pdf through code

Hi Guys,
I need to create a script in vbscript for opening a Password Protected pdf file. The file needs to fetch the password from a notepad.
How can i Automate the code for opening the file n number of times without the 'Password' window getting displayed every time. Is their any function available which can verify the 'Password' at back end and the 'Password' window does not gets displayed.
I have Adobe Reader 9 installed on my machine so can not use CreatObject("AcroExch.PDDoc"). I do not want to use Shell,

Need to recreate a password protected PDF but can't unlock origional

I have a password protected PDF protfolio that I need to recreate but no longer have the origional password for. I could just write a new PDF, but so much time was spent creating the origional. Is there a way to save a copy and then re-apply the password security?

I want to add that the pdf password unlock programs usually are easier to break the permission password for you to copy, print and edit with corresponding tools. But to crack the open password it's more difficult and if your file is protected by this kind of pdf security, you may have to type word by word from scratch.....

Detecting password protected PDFs in arcobat

without the use off (modified)scripts.

Are you talking about passwords to prevent opening the file, or passwords to restrict permissions (printing, etc.)?
You can detect both types of password with Preflight Droplets in Acrobat Pro:
Create a new Preflight Profile, and set it to check for encryption and report that property as an error.
Convert the Profile into a Droplet using the Preflight options menu.
Set the droplet to move the files to success and error folders of your choice.
Run the droplet against your candidate files (drag and drop files or folders onto the icon).
The following will happen:
Files with no passwords will be placed in the success folder.
Files with only a permissions (owner) password will be placed in the error folder.
Files with an open (user) password will be left in their original location*.
*Unlike scripts, Preflight Droplets do not generate any password dialogs - if they cannot open a file, it is silently ignored.
