Creating musical excerpts in iTunes

Hi,
I'm in the process of completing a research paper which will have an accompanying cd. what i would like to do is have musical excerpts rather than full tracks, and i tried to do this in preferences but the tracks are still the same size even when only 20 seconds long. Anyone got any idea how to shorten songs in time and size? hope this makes sense!! thanks for the help, Humphrey
emac 1 GHz PowerPC G4 640 MB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Lacie 160 GB Ext. HD,3g 40GB ipod,4GB ipod mini,1GB ipod shuffle, 30Gb Zen NX

Set Start and Stop times of the track and convert it (Advanced menu in the menubar).
This will create a copy of the song with the shortened play time and the shortened file length.
Choose the encoder in Preferences>Advanced>Importing.
It's no problem to convert it to the same format it is in now.
You might experience some loss in audio quality, caused by the decoding/encoding process.
Hope this helps.

  • HT1689 is it possible to create music playlists on itunes for iphone? (like for Ipod). How to do this?

    Hi
I have been ignoring playing music on my iphone until now (ive been used to the good 'ol ipod, and was assuming I could do away with the ipod and just use my iphone).
But having synced my imac computer and the phone, I don't seem to be able to use playlists on the iphone's itunes app.  Is this right??  Or am I missing something ..?

The playlists should sync form your computer to your phone. When you go into music app to play the music, you should see playlist as a button on the bottom of the screen. If it is not showing try looking under the more button.

You can have one icloud account and a different itunes account on the phone. I have my icloud account and a shared itunes account. He does not have to use the new icloud account as is ID in itunes and app store. He can keep using the old one.

Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

  • Can I create a radio station using the music in my iTunes library?

I have iTunes 12 installed on my 2014 MacBook Pro and late-2008 aluminium unibody MacBook.  My husband and I share the MacBook and he wants to access my iTunes library because his is empty.
A friend told me that the easiest way to do this in iTunes 12 is to create a radio station using my music in my iTunes library.  My iTunes music folder is just over 35GB in size (if that's relevant).  Almost all of the music (>95%) is from my CDs that I've copied into iTunes over the years.
I would be really grateful if someone could tell me how I go about doing this because I'm afraid that I haven't been able to find any instructions on just how I go about this.
    Cheers

Here are other ways to share your library but it only works if you're both on the same network: Enable Home Sharing under iTunes/File Menu and read the iTunes Help entry for Home Sharing for additional info. It will allow up to 5 computers on your network to play and download items from your iTunes Library. Alternatively, you can enable "Share My Library On My Local Network" under iTunes Preferences which allows up to 5 computers to play any content in your library but without the ability to download them.
I assume you keep your iTunes Library synchronized on both computers. If you have it also on the MacBook, this Apple support document will explain how to share your iTunes Library with multiple users on the same computer. This is by far the easiest and always available without using the network.

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
Do you have a credit card, or a different debit card that you could try (some are apparently still accepted in India) ?

  • How do I move a .mp3 file I created in my music software to iTunes?

My music software now has .mp3 creation capabilities, with ID tags.  I am trying to insert one file as a test (and the ID tags are filled in).  In my PC running Windows 7, I navigated to Music\iTunes\iTunes music\[new folder] and place the .mp3 file there.  But when I open iTunes, my file does not appear in the list.  I've clicked on all the subcategories to alpha them, but no luck.  How do I install this?  I need to know because I am going to offer .mp3 files with a book I've written, which is being published now.
    Thank you!

You need to open iTunes first then drag and drop the mp3 file onto the Music section of iTunes to get the file imported.

  • Using music library in iTunes to create ringtones?

Is there a way to use music from my iTunes library to make my own ringtones?  If found an article on About.com and also through an earlier Community discussion from several months ago, but couldn't get it to work.  Also, the articles refer to using Windows Explorer in one of the steps, so maybe instructions for Windows based PC users.  I'm using a Mac with iTunes 10.5.2 and OS X 10.5.8.

Thanks, this was great.  Also did some more searching and found this site, slightly different steps than the Cnet video you pointed out but also worked for me.

  • HT1386 How do I transfer all the music from an iTunes library on a PC to on another iTunes library on a Mac, with being able to keep both libraries of music?

A year and a half ago I purchased an iPhone 4s and created a substantial library of music in the iTunes account on my PC. Just recently, I purchased a Macbook Pro w/ Retina  and am just getting around to syncing the newer iTunes library on my iPhone. However, when I did, iTunes deleted all the songs that I had previously on my first iTunes library.
I still have access to all the other songs on the previous iTunes library, but how can I add both libraries to my iPhone without losing any music?
I've been searching for about three hours on ways to do this and I've come up with nothing.

    Hi davidforner!
I have an article here that I believe can help you accomplish your goals. That article can be found here:

  • Got an IPOD nanno last year. Used Itunes often and got a lot of music. Bought another nano for a family member who is using their own laptop . Anyway for me to get music from my Itunes library onto family members ipod? Thanks

Can i get music from my itunes library (created with different computer) onto wife's ipod library (created using different computer)? Hope this makes sense

iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

  • Separating out a child's music library in iTunes

Forgive my ignorance, but I've never mastered iTunes music. Now I've complicated things by giving my child an old iPhone.  She's purchasing music and I really don't want it mixed up with mine.  Two questions:
    (1) Is there a way to remove her music from my iTunes library? She has her own iTunes account as part of Family Sharing. I read one solution which was to create playlists for each member of the family, but that becomes problematic since she/I don't always assign our music to a list.  Really, I just don't want to see her stuff mixed in with mine at all!
    (2) May not be relevant to this, but should I be logging out of iTunes whenever I sync her phone and logging in as her?
    Thank you.

Have to be very specific in using the term account:
A collection of music on a computer is a "iTunes library" not an account.
When you sign into the iTunes Store you are signing into an "iTunes Store account".
A user area on a computer is a user account.
My suggestion was to set her up with her own user account/area on your computer and inside that establish her own iTunes library.  When she logs into her user area on the computer and starts iTunes it will show her music collection.
I don't use Family Sharing so my understanding is limited.  It seemed to me the primary purpose of your question was to isolate her collection from yours and doing so by having her have her own user area and iTunes library seemed the best way to do this.  I am less informed on how to continue to monitor another person's purchases but since I don't have FamilySharing I can't just log on and check.  There may be more information on other sites such as

  • How can i create a playlist in iTunes and have the playlist show up on iPhone 5

I painstakingly spent a considerable amout of time creating a playlist in iTunes on Windows, and now when I sync my iPhone, and open the Music app, I do not see the playlist at all.  When I select 'On this device' in iTunes, I can see the playlist listed, but a large number of the songs are greyed out, and do not play in iTunes.  These are simply songs I selected from my iTunes library into an iTunes playlist, and I sync'ed my iPhone saying transfer only selected playlists, etc, and now the playlist does NOT show up on the iPhone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

If you subscribe to iTunes match ($25 a year) then your music and playlists will sync across your devices. Whatever you do on your iPad will reflect on your phone.
I have no use for iTunes Match and know little about it - but do you not need a computer in order to subscribe to iTunes Match? From where would the OP upload his music?
    The OP has no computer.

  • Desperate for advice on how to manage a music collection with iTunes

    Hi All
    Some advice please...... :o)
    To elaborate:
--> I want to keep my music in a directory sorted by folders and subfolders that I create and have the ability to tell itunes where to put the MP3s it Rips from my CDs
--> I want to point itunes at this folder (not import! the songs... why have 2 copies of the same thing... really silly!)
--> I want to use itunes to edit tags where necessary and use it to create playlists
--> Lastly I want to activate iTunes to have a directory view (if such a feature exists) and move between the playlists view and this view at will... Also in the list of music on itunes how would i activate a column showing where the music is stored (i.e. the actual music directory)....
    Then.....
--> I want to be able to move the folder and the itunes db file to any machine install itunes ... point itunes at the directory of music and the itunes db and presto all my stuff nicely sorted and ready to go...
Sorry this is how my brain works and iTunes just seems to want to do it's own thing...
My wife has an iPod mini... and I though it was cool till I started using iTunes... and now I'm considering an iRiver for myself rather.... I get the feeling that apple is trying to lock me into a way of doing things, be it that they are nervous about piracy or want you to purchase songs/videos etc....
Now I couldn't really care about the iTunes store.... my collection is based on CDs that I've collected over years and years (all above board!)... and iTunes is just frustrating the living daylights out of me!
    Show me the light...
    Thanks

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General has the location of the iTunes music folder. That is where ripped CDs will go.
The My Documents\My Music\ folder is a special windows folder. If you want to move that, it might be easiest for you to use TweakUI, google for it.
I don't know about the folder view.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps youshouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • I just got my new iPhone 5 yesterday; after setting it up, I can't put any music from my itunes library on my iPhone

I have Windows 7 on my computer, and my iTunes is the latest version.  My new phone has the latest version also.  When I go to the Music tab in iTunes under my phone, the only option is Sync voice memos.  What the heck?  I bought the largest phone so I could have all my music on my phone also.  My music library is on an external hard drive but it's on the network and I my phone should have access to it.
I want to get this completed sometime before next year.

You need to use a different Apple ID for iCloud.
Create a new Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
On your iPhone enter the new Apple ID in Settings > iCloud > Account.
You can all continue to use the original Apple ID for iTunes and App Store.
