Creating Name for DVD
Anyone know how to create a name for a DVD using The One Step DVD from Movie feature? It does not use the name from the project but instead uses some default that says OneStep_DVDfromMovie or something like that.

Not sure what type of testing/errors you are looking for
MacDVDBitRateParanoia is one that reports spikes (in theory), but it seemed to be a little off in what it reports

Generally looking for bad encodes/muxing, I usually run a DVD at faster speed in DVD Player or DVDAfterEdit one or two times (you can pick glitches up often) then finally watch everything in real time on a proofing DVD

I'm currently putting together some videos in FCP for our new website. I've used FCP a lot for creating video for DVD's and exporting to .mov but converting to flash is relatively new to me.
I am using the On2 Flix FLV exporter to export direct from FCP to a 704 x 396 flv file.
Can someone clarify how I should set up my sequence in FCP to get the best quality results? All the source material is DV PAL for video (720 x 576 anamorphic) and PNG-24 for still images (in this case a background which I will input text over in FCP). Should I be setting all my sequences to 704 x 396, and what pixel aspect ratio should I use seeing as it is for flash/web use?
Also, in the Sequence Settings dialog box what should I set as the Compressor settings (dv pal/h.264 etc) as flv does not appear as an option?

JackThanks guys. So if I am to carry on working in the standard DV-Pal sequence I'm wondering what to do when importing graphics. I have been given a psd which contains a title screen that will be placed before each video. The psd has been given to me at 704 x 396 - the size of the final delivered FLV rather than the DV Pal sequence. When I bring this image into FCP and render it makes the image look pixelated/blocky (I'm exporting from Photoshop as a PNG-24). What is the proper way to export graphics for use in Final Cut? Should I re-size the image to match the sequence or bring it in at 704x396 and have Final Cut resize it?

Hey,
I have found a good number of freeware programs that help with creating subtitles for DVD Studio Pro, etc. but my concern is that I want to be able to print my sequence to mini-DV for screenings also.
Is there is a program I can use that actually feeds directly into Final Cut or program that can be used with burning DVDs as well as writing to tape, etc.?

ElliatWe don't have Virex or Norton software in the machine. We have Disk Warrior which was helpful in the past with other problems. Should I run another check using Disk Warrior?
We only have one machine which has three internal drives. We've experienced the same problems using each of the drives.
We do have some video stored in the system drive, but normally we don't use that drive. The system drive currently has 70GB availble, as do each of the other internal drives.
We have updated our FCP to 4.5, but should we trying re-installing it? -
Livetype titles as buttons for DVD Studio Pro 4
made a title in Live Type that I want to use a button in DVD Studio Pro 4. Is there a tutorial, or can anyone tell me exactly what I have to do to import it and make it a button in DVDSP 4? When I try to import it and drop it on a menu, the button is small but the surrounding button box is big. When I try and make the letters bigger, the button box gets bigger as well.
All I want is to make just the letters bigger and not the whole surrounding box.
Please help.

No one posted because you can easily find the answer yourself in the DVDSP manual. Creating buttons for DVD menus is a complex operation if you want it to be. LiveType by itself is not appropriate for the task. LT will create some embelishments and animated fluff that you can use to augment the buttons you make in DVDSP. Scaling imported assets is covered extensively, if undecipherably, in the DVDSP manual.

Can I create a bootable DVD for my Macbook running 10.5.8?
I'm trying to install a larger hdd in my 2007 MacBook 13" 2.16 Core Duo. I used SuperDuper to create a disk image on an external USB drive but when I reboot with the alt/option key depressed, it only finds my internal disk. I'm guessing I can't boot this old laptop from a USB disk, so now I'm wondering if I can create a bootable DVD or CD for it. Or do I need to upgrade my OS?
Hi, if tryly a PowerMac, (PPC instead of Intel), you may need a Firewire Drive to be bootable, most PPC Macs cannot boot OSX from a USB drive.

First, how do I create my own favorite theme template for DVD slideshows? I used to be able to select this from pulldown menu, but cannot now do so. I am directed straight to already existing themes, which take more memory. I have a large slideshow, and need all the space I can get. I just want to use a picture as my DVD cover, and then insert a slideshow. Also, when I try to burn my 8.5gb double sided slideshow, all that burns is the music. It is a large slideshow, a memorial on the life of my now deceased brother. This means a lot to me and to my family, and I am having so much trouble trying to burn it. I have gone into Project View and selected appropriately. The bar shows I have room to burn this DVD, but it does not burn. I have burned so many DVDs in the past, but this one just will not burn. I am so confused at this point. I will say this is the first 8.5gb I have attempted to create and burn. My specs list a 7.7gb or 4.7gb as operable....but there are no 7.7gb dvds. I had to purchase 8.5gb. Help? What am I doing wrong? I have spent so much time on this, and just cannot figure it out.
Final Cut is a separate, higher end video editor. The pro version of iMovie.
Give iPhoto a look at for creating the slideshow. It's easy to assemble the photos in an album in iPhoto, put them in the order you want and then make a slideshow of them. You can select from various themes and transitions between slides and add music from your iTunes library.
When you have the slidshow as you want use the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window and export with Size = Medium or Large.
Save the resulting Quicktime movie file in your Movies folder.
Next, open iDVD, choose your theme and drag the QT movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The reason I suggest iPhoto is that I find it much easier to use than iMovie (except for the older iMovie 6 HD version). Personal preferences showing here. -

How to create a user name for iTunes reviews?
I just noticed that almost every iTunes review is posted under an anonymous user name... except for mine!
How do I add a user name to my profile/account so that my real full name isn't automatically posted under every review?
I had this same issue with my apple message boards user name, and Apple told me that I had to create an entirely new account. Not a big deal for the forums. But creating a whole new iTunes account means losing all my movies, music and apps. Not gonna happen.
So hopefully there's some way to add an alias name for my reviews.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!!I was about to post an iPhone app review and couldn't see what name was going to be displayed. In searching for that I found your question. You've probably solved this by now but in case you haven't you need to turn off Ping in iTunes. Go to the iTunes store and open the preferences. Under "Parental" click to disable "Ping". When they added Ping they made it use your real name. After you have disabled Ping you can edit your nickname. At the bottom of the iTunes window click on "Account" under "Manage". At the bottom of that page you'll see an option to edit your Nickname in the settings section.

I just created a slideshow dvd in imovie, and when I hit finalize it said that it would take 7 hours to finalize. I've only had my macbook pro for 6 months, and this is the first imovie I've done...is this normal? If not how can I speed up this process? Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Time needed can depend on several things.
• less than 5 GB free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk = Redicolous long times AND a DVD that most probably will not work OK
Medicine - I never go under 25GB free space
• Use of strange file formats into iDVD - can force it to de-code first then re-encode - this can take long long times
I use
Video - StreamingDV as from miniDV tape Cameras - or QuickTime Movies Converted to StreamingDV
Audio - .aiff 16-bit 48 kHz - (no .mp3, .wma etc)
• Use of old Mac - My G4 600MHz took about 24 hour per hour movie. my dG5 - about 2 hours per hour (I use Pro Quality encoding)
• Pro Quality encoding - takes about x2 to process a movie
