Creating new tags slow in Mac OS Yosemite

Hi
I have been finding creating new tags in Mac OS X Yosemite to be really slow. Whilst it was slow in Mavericks, it really is taking a lot of time now. Using previously created tags is not a problem.
Has anybody else found this, and a solution for it?

I think the issue isn't just in Yosemite, but seems to have got worse with that upgrade, but this fix worked for me, and it might for you too.

Create new tags?

Hi everyone,
I upgraded to Mavericks and am enjoying getting used to the new Tags system, but I can't figure out how to create new Tags, am I missing something really obvious??

The easiest way is to select the file/folder you wish to tag > click the 'edit tags' icon in finder bar > Type in the Name for a new Tag:

Do tags slow my mac?

Since Mavericks, my Mac has slow performance. I have thousands of colored labels on files. Is my Mac searching for files in the background due to the new Tag metadata? Also I must often wait an extended time to save a fle since my Mac now wants to search the Cloud.

I want to create new tags.

I often access science sites. Today I tried to bookmark such a site and wanted to tag it with a tag called "Science" and was unable to find that tag so now I want to create a tag called Science. How do I do that? Firefox is supposed to be personalizable and it's why I run it. Is a folder the same as a tag? I saw info on how to create new folders but not tags. Please help.

Slow moving Mac after Yosemite

I have a Macbook pro mid 2009. I loved this computer until I downloaded Yosemite. Now it is very slow. It also gets extremely hot to the touch on the bottom of my computer after just a few mins of running it. I’m close to throwing in the towel and getting a PC. Please Help!

You're running in the absolute bare minimum ram to run just the OS, anything you try to do on top of that will slow your mac to a crawl. Take a look at OWC for upgrade options http://eshop.macsales.com

Creating new Tags with HTMLEditorKit

Hello,
I have an HTMLEditorKit and I want it to recognize the HTML tags + some new tags I've created (which contains some attributes).
1. Is it possible ?
2. How ?
I've read the API, and found something about an HTML parser and a SGML DTD. There's a mthode like defElement(String name, int type, boolean omitStart, boolean omitEnd, ContentModel content, String[] exclusions, String[] inclusions, AttributeList atts) but I can't find any example how to use it. And I don't know if it's really the best way to do so.
I'm not using XML because I need to have, in the same document, the bold, italic, table, etc tags, and my new tags. And some are overlapping... (like aa<tag>cccggg</tag> )

Overlapping of tags is a really bad thing to do. There is also no need to do it.
Some bold some bold Italic some Italic is -bad-. Better to do the following as it is much clearer and also correct.
Some bold some bold Italic some Italic.
As for the rest, search on google for the method call, find a book on the subject.

Is there a way to "create" new tags?

I had accidentally deleted my "Red" tag and i no longer see the "All Tags" option in Finder. I just want to make a new tag.

Well I tested this out...
I deleted a tag, it gave me the warning that this action can't be undone.
However, I was able to get it back. Granted the files/documents that this tag reprecented had they're link broken and probably wouldn't be restore once I got the tag back. (Didn't test that part).
So if a tag is deleted for any reason.
Open Finder.
Click on Documents (or something that will allow you to click on "Edit Tags".
Click on Edit Tags and start typing a color in the field provided.
Press Enter and the color should reappear in the list.
For me, I deleted Green. Typed in Green press Enter and the Green tag reappeared.

How do I create new tags in Maverick?

I accidently removed tags. I now only have four different colours left. How do I get the other ones back?

Anywhere you can enter Tags, just type the new Tag.
For an existing file, the Tags button on the Toolbar will allow you to set a tag.
The Tags... command in the File menu will bring up the same dialog. Just type the new tag in the entry field.

New iMac slower after upgrade to Yosemite...

I recently (2-3 months ago) purchased a 21.5 inch iMac, with the following specs:
Mavericks OS X
1 GB Fusion HD (The HD contains approx. 500 GB of data, i.e. +/- a little over half full)
3.1 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB DDR3
I use the BlueTooth keyboard, trackpad and mouse.
Connected to it, via a Lightning cable, is a 4 TB external HD for my media and vast iTunes library.
I also use Bose external speakers.
I run Parallels 9, (fully updated) to be able to access and run certain business related programmes, that I absolutely cannot run on an Apple, specifically, Airbus CBT (computer based training) courses.
I was immensely happy with the machine. It was fast, the graphics are awesome and it was a pleasure to work with. Frankly, it runs Windows 7 in parallel, faster than any PC I've ever seen, but I honestly only use it when I absolutely have to!
When Yosemite became available, I immediately upgraded to it, as was the plan from the beginning. The upgrade went without a hitch, save to say, there was a short power interruption during the download. I followed the instructions and installed the new OS, and commenced using it. I immediately noticed that upon switching between applications and programmes, there was a several second delay between clicking or selecting the app, thereafter the colour "thinking wheel" would appear for several more seconds and only then would the selected task or operation happen, allowing further selections or options to be made. This is a very noticeable and annoying delay, sometimes as much as 10 seconds, that did not occur whilst using Mavericks.
Even within certain apps or programmes, for example, mail, there are these same delayed responses. For example - if I click on the reply tab, there is a 3 to 4 second delay, followed by the coloured wheel for another 3 to 4 seconds, before the reply mail appears and I'm able to continue. So too, in iTunes, if I select a different track, or move between movies and music, there is this seemingly incessant delay between selections and activity. Granted, I have a vast media collection on an external drive, but it is via a Lightning connection. I don't remember USB connections being as slow...
I spent several minutes yesterday, on the phone to an Apple Care specialist in Europe, discussing another problem with my MacBook Pro, and when I mentioned this, he suggested several things to try - forcing Spotlight to re-index the drive, etc, and even he at this early time, was able to find where in Yosemite you can see if this process, (re-indexing) is being carried out - but nothing seems to have improved anything.
Am I being unreasonable in expecting it all to run as smoothly and as quickly as it used to? Should I have waited before upgrading my machine? Did I do anything wrong or can you suggest anything that might restore my pride and joy to it's original lightning fast like behaviour?

Create new plug-in on Mac - FYI

I just went through this process and thought I would jot down the steps, since they are a little bit more complicated than the notes in the SDK documentaion.
To make a new plug-in named Whizbang from the template named Skeletion...
0. Copy the Skelton Example to a new folder named Whizbang
Rename the Skeleton.xcodeproj to Whizbang.xcodeproj
Change all source file permissions to read-write
Open the Whizbang.xcodeproj package and change the .pbxproj permissions to read-write
Edit the project settings and change project Base SDK to Mac OS X 10.6
Also change Build Products Path to "/Applications/Adobe After Effects CS4/Plug-ins/Effects"
Rename each file from Skeleton*.* to Whizbang*.*
Find and replace all occurances of SKELETON with WHIZBANG
Find and replace all occurances of Skeleton with Whizbang
Open the file whizbang.plugin-info.plist and change "Skeleton" to "Whizbang"
Also change the copyright notice

Creating new Tags with HTMLEditorKit and painting tag

hello,
I am trying to make a simple modification to HTMLEditorKit so that I can implement a custom tag eg TFONT a font that has transparency capabilities.
I have overriden javax.swing.text.html.parser.ParserDelegator class and am able to detect the tags but I need to implement the tag. Basically I want a way to render text that is partly transparent (like the css3 opaque attribute)
Therefore I want to paint my tag, but I am not sure how to override HTMLEditorKit for ViewFactory, in order to create my own View class for this tag. A simple example wwould be great.

Overlapping of tags is a really bad thing to do. There is also no need to do it.
Some bold some bold Italic some Italic is -bad-. Better to do the following as it is much clearer and also correct.
Some bold some bold Italic some Italic.
As for the rest, search on google for the method call, find a book on the subject.

Can't create new account after running Mac OS X Setup Assistant

Please help me...!
Yesterday, my friend gave me his old MacBook (Mac OS X Tiger)...
He said that he forgot his password and didn't know how to reset it...
Soon, I do the Setup Assistant with this :
1. holding down Command + S.
2. fsck -yf
mount -uw /
3. Remove current Netinfo Database:
cd /private/var/db/netinfo
mv local.nidb local.old
4. Force Apple Setup to launch on next startup:
rm ../.AppleSetupDone
5. Don't forget to delete the home folders from every user on the system in /Users!
6. Shut down the mac:
shutdown -h now
But after running the Setup Assistant and after filling all of the important information, The "Welcome" video come again and the mac just run the Setup Assistant again....
I'm so confused with this... so please help me....I need it so Bad...hhe...

You've done about everything you can without The Install Disk, if your friend doesn't have that then call Apple with the Serial# handy, or seek an Apple Store/Provider.

Try this: Go to this page but don't fill out the form. Instead, click on the "Forget your Apple ID?" link and fill out the form on the next page with the relevant information. It should be able to give you any Apple IDs you have set up in the past.
