Creating on-the-go FlashCards for your iPhone
Hello,
I just wanted to share this with the community. I have been taking Japanese classes this semester, and the load of vocabulary that I have to learn every week is pretty impressive, and hard to handle. I found a great way to get all my vocabulary on "virtual" FlashCards that I put on my iPhone.
It's quite simple, really:
Just open Keynote, and create your FlashCards. Use one panel for one word. What I do is that I write the word in Japanese pretty big, and the translation under it (with a large space) under it. I find that if you use a white back ground and a black font, it works best, but you can do the reverse, and it works as well (i.e. Black background, and white font).
Once you are done creating your FlashCards, you can import them to iPhoto, and just sync your iPhone with the appropriate folder. Because I have so many words to learn, I separate them by Chapters.
When you are on the go (i.e. in the Metro, on the plane, waiting for the bus, on the bus...) you can review your FlashCards. I use my thumb to hide either the Japanese word, or the English word, and review this way. It has worked really really well for me, and all the students in my class have been doing the same with their iPods, importing the FlashCards as pictures from Keynote to iPhoto.
Anyway, if some people knew this trick, good for you, but I just wanted to share this with other language students.
Thank you.
I wanted to study flash cards on my iPod and couldn’t find an easy way to make lots of these picture files. I have a PC, so don’t know about Keynote and iPhoto. Anyway, I ended up writing my own program that converts a list of flashcard text to individual jpg files. I also created a web front end that allows anyone to make them. If anyone out there is interested, go to my web site at http://ais.ms/flashcard/.

When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?" Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?
I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple). I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update". No problem. No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

When restoring and updating my iPhone I am getting the following message " iTunes could not update to the carrier settings for your iPhone.an unknown error occurred (1630).can anyone please with a knowledge tell me what I should do please. Thank you
The search bar can be very valuable...........
In using it, I found out other's have had this issue and it likely means you have a 3G iPad? If you do, go into settings and turn off cellular data, then try to update again and you should be OK........ -
Hello,
this morning I received the following error message when the iPhone connected to iTunes: i
tunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your iphone. an unknown error occurred (1635)
any ideas? thxI get the same error (although in Dutch ;-)).
It also says something like (I'm translating): "Make sure your network settings are correct and your networkconnection is active or try again later." Is there a way to find out these "correct networksettings"?
I now get it for a week, eacht time I connect my iPhone to itunes... -

helo, my iiphone is unlock and i upgrade to 5.1 version when the upgrade finish i get this question-An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now? is there a resone not to upgrade, will he become lock?
If your phone is factory unlocked, or officially unlocked by your carrier, updating will NOT re-lock the phone. If it was unlocke by unauthorized methods, any update or restore will re-lock it.

iTunes keeps popping up a dialog box that says "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it?" What is this? When I click on the "Learn More" button in the dialog box it takes me to a generic iTunes support page that has no relevance to carrier settings.
I got this three times within the last 4 hours and have been getting it almost every day since I use my new iPhone 6 - over a week now. This happens almost every time I connect the phone to my MacBook Pro, although every time I confirm and it indicates successful update.
It is highly unlikely that my carrier updates settings on daily basis or three times a day. It is almost surely a bug in the Apple system and anything but a timely and effective solution is unacceptable.
For debugging information, I recovered a backup from my former iPhone 5 onto the new one, using the same carrier and SIM. -
Have problem with "Check for Updates" for iTunes or accessing iTunes stores. Called Apple support locally in Singapore who couldnt help resolve the problem and was directed to helpdesk in Norway but after hours on the phone, they still could not solve the problem. They are also referring solutions from iTunes support FAQs to go through the problem I encountered. In the end, they said will escalate the matter to next level and will contact me back but they never did. Other error message include "A program caused iTunes to stop working..."
I am using a SONY Vaio with Windows 8. Current iTunes version is 11.1.3.8. Disappointed with Apple Support. I was able to do backup with itunes though. Appreciate anyone who encountered similar problem to share the solution. Thanks.I got the same error but I think I know what's wrong with my situation. My iPhone 4 is programmed for a CDMA carrier that Apple doesn't support. I have limited ability with the phone... but I still love it.

You don't import photos from the iPhone to your computer using iTunes.
See this -> iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Note this only applies to photos taken with the iPhone. Any photos you previously added to your iPhone using iTunes should be copied from old computer to new computer. -

hey guyz.. i wanna ask if i get an updated version from itunes when i plug my iPhone into the Pc, i get a letter tells me that there is an update for your iPhone ... i wanna ask is it safe to download ?? and does it make any side effects on longTerm using ??
It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
Reboot your computer
Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief. -
Sync message, "You have changed the settings for your iphone. Would you like to apply these changes?" What does this mean? I don't recall changing anything...
The main settings that are changed in these cases can be found in this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
To ensure you don't lose any data you don't want taken off, ensure that each Summary, Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, iTunes U, Books, & Photos have the settings you would prefer on the computer.
If anything gets changed on any of those pages, you will be prompted with that message. If they look fine, especially after adding some media like songs or videos, then you can apply the changes without fear. -
