Creating OS 9 boot cd/Backup

I'm trying to backup my entire OS 9 files from my Tibook 1Ghz and get ready to do a clean install on one partition. Is there anyway I could create a custom bootable OS 9 cd so I can perform a restore/install of OS 9 without installing OS X? Maybe I can create a type of image in OS X and restore the image when booting to a OX dvd? Anwho, any solutions? Thanks :-D

It's always a good idea to do backups, but I'm not sure you need to make a bootable CD. If by "clean install," you are doing a Mac OS 9 clean install, the data on that drive does not get deleted. If you are doing a Mac OS X install, the data is retained including your Mac OS 9 System Folder, unless you choose to do an "erase and install" in the Options window.
If you can describe the end result you desire, the solutions would be more appropriate for your situation.

  • Creating external ssd boot drive on mac mini late 2012

I just bought mac mini (i7) late 2012 and have ordered Lacie rugged 120GB ssd. I would like to create the new ssd as a boot disk. I have already installed quite a few applications on hard drive. What should I do in order to create the external boot disk? I have for instance Adobe Photpshop, Adobe Premiere Elements and o course Apple's video and photo editing software. Should I also transfer the applications (and which) to the new SSD and  how should I do it in order to keep activations etc. Detailed instructions are wished, because I am newbie with Mac,

I am not clear why you want to do this, because it sounds to me like you want to make the new drive a complete duplicate of the internal drive. I do not see the point of this. If it is for security reasons, you need only an inexpensive external drive to serve as a Time Machine backup.
However, if that is indeed what you want to do, all you need is a program like Carbon Copy Cloner. Use it to make a copy of the internal drive on the external. CCC will make it bootable.
As far as Adobe activations are concerned, your copies on the same computer will retain their activated status.
    Detailed instructions:
    1. download CCC
    2. connect the external
    3. run CCC to duplicate the internal to the external.

When you performing RMAN duplicate why you making your script so complicated?
Your instance name and DB name can be different, But what is the contents in your pfile "D:\TESTDELETE\initclonedb1.ora" ? please do post
Have you started any other services related to ORACLE? check in start --> run --> services.msc any other active oracles services, Make sure you have clonedb1.
    Startup in nomount
check the connectivity to target server.
SET NEWNAME FOR TEMPFILE 1 TO 'F:\app\HOME\oradata\clonedb1\TEMP01.DBF';Why you mentioning SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE ? You have option of db_file_name_convert/log_file_name_convert in case if your file system different in Target & auxiliary.
BACKUP LOCATION 'F:\app\HOME\flash_recovery_area\orcl\'When you have backup in same location why you are mentioning this clause?
First run duplicate from auxiliary server as
    rman target sys/*****@prod auxiliary /
    RMAN> duplicate target database to "db_name";
Am not sure what you are trying to do. is it 11gR1 or 11gR2?
You have option of duplicate from active database without having backup also..

  • How to create a Lion boot disk for Lion on a MBPRD?

I have a unique version of Lion on my MBPRD.  How do I create a Lion Boot Disk for this unique version?

Why is it a Unique version of Lion? The only versions of Lion are ones for older Macs, Before the Mid 2012 models came out, and a version that includes the newer drivers for the newest model Macs, Current shipping Mid 2012 models.
If you are talking about a version for the new Mid 2012 models then you will need to wait for Apple to update their Lion Download servers because right now they do not have the newest Lion version available on those servers.

  • How to Create new database from cold backup files.

    Dear Experts,
I have an oracle 10g databae on windows 2003 server.
The database is in Archive log mode and backup strategy is Taking cold backup ever night.
    Backup steps:
    shut down database.
copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location.
    Startup.
I have taken a backup at Tuesdaay 1AM and I have archive logs also.
On Wednesday, I want to Create a new database on another server with the available cold backup files and archive logs. I want to recover the database upto 4PM Wednesday. How can I do this.
I am not using control file auto backup or control file backup to trace.
Please help me how can I do this. I am new to oracle database Administration.
    --Thanks

    The steps :
    shut down database.
copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location -- you mean the alternate location for the new databaseare correct (except that I would say "alternate location for the new database").
If you do not have controlfile backups, you cannot either OPEN the database or RECOVER the database until and unless you CREATE the Controlfiles. You have to generate a CREATE CONTROLFILE script using a BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE from the Production serer and create the controlfile on the new server.
BEFORE the Startup, I would use
RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL;The "using backup controlfile" tells Oracle to continue attempting Recovery -- ie doing a RollForward -- till the last archivelog made available to it.
For the Recover command, you then keep applying the ArchiveLogs from the Tuesday 1am ColdBackup upto Wednesday 4pm.
Once you have applied the last ArchiveLog, you do an
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;Here are my notes of doing a RollForward "Recovery" from a Cold Backup :
    http://hemantoracledba.blogspot.com/2007/05/rollforward-from-cold-backup.html
If you are attempting all these steps on a different server from your current Production database, you should be safe.
Once you OPEN the database, you can use CREATE CONTROLFILE or the NID utility to rename the database.
If you are attempting to create the new database on the same server there are many other precautions you have to take and unless you have experience with cloning databases, I would advice you against doing so (only the RMAN DUPLICATE DATABASE command has a safer method of cloning a database).

  • Can I create an external boot drive for an updated Mac OS Maverick system?

I'm currently running Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on my 24" iMac and would like to clone my current drive to an external drive & then update that external drive to Mac OS Maverick. First, can this be done to create an external Boot drive for my iMac System? Secondly, can I then select the internal system (OS 10.6.8) or the external drive Maverick OS system at boot time?

Probably will depend on just what your machine is - i.e. how current and fast is the internal hardware.
Generally though, the performance booting off a firewire 800 should be fine for most things with little if any system lag.  My late-2008 MBP ( 2.53Ghz core-2 duo, 8GB RAM) runs quite well when booted from a firewire 800 drive (7200rpm - even my 5400rpm portable clone is perfectly useable).
Just remember if using the external for a long or serious work session, if the power goes out, that external is not going to be powered off battery (I keep my full size external drives plugged into a UPS because of that).

  • How to create Lion recovery boot usb WITHOUT recovery partition?

I give up.  I can't find the answer to this.  So, I'll just ask and hope.
I have a mid-2011 mini that was upgraded to Lion.  However, it had a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7.
Apparently, whoever upgraded my machine didn't create a recovery boot disk before upgrading.
So, I have no recovery partition and apparently no ability to create a recovery boot usb without one.
Apple's ******** support policy is to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything--which is simply not going to happen.

    Have you tried this?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
I made one on a USB flash drive.
Problem with that solution is that:
Note: In order to create an external Lion Recovery using the Lion Recovery Assistant, the Mac must have an existing Recovery HD.
If you kept a copy of the installer, then open it up, and restore the InstallESD.dmg to an empty partition or flash drive. Do note that doesn't give you the Recovery HD, but you won't need one since you can reinstall w/o downloading anything but additional components from Apple's servers.

  • Creating a dual boot HD Windows 7 32 and Windows 7 64 bit OS

I have a 750 GB HD with one bootable partition of Windows 7 32 bit OS using 320 GB space. Was cloned from a HD that was physically 320 GB. Still have 400 GB unallocated space on the HD. HD is currently in a ultrabay and I can boot from either the internal 320 GB HD or the 320 GB partition on the 750 GB HD. Can put the Ultrabay in either a T61 or T61P laptop. Have the 64 bit install DVD for Windows 7 and would like to install it on the unpartitioned space on my 750 GB HD using some or all of the 400 GB unpartitioned space. How do I create the dual boot system on the Ultrabay 750 GB harddrive?

All you have to do is install the windows, it will install a boot manager so you can select among the operating systems.
Also understand that the drive installed in your ultrabay will run slower, so you're best to use the boot drives as your primary drive and use an ultrabay drive only for storage.

You should just be able to erase it using Disk Utiilty. I did with my 8Gb.
If not I have a USB deep format tool, but it only works with Windows: http://tinyurl.com/mwor6s9
You can download that and unzip it, then run it on a PC to fully erase and format the flash drive. Format it in FAT, and then the Mac will read and mount it so you cna once again format it with HFS extended for Mac use.

  • Creating and Booting From Backup OS X Tiger Disk 1

I work on two MacBook Pros (one running OS X 10.4, and one running OS X 10.5), and recently purchased a 2003 imac 1.25Ghz 17 inch model in great condition. It came with 10.3 installed, but also had the retail disks for OS X 10.4 Tiger with it.
The Disk 1 installer for Tiger won't boot-up the iMac, and it won't even mount on the iMac. The Disk 2 does at least mount. Tiger's Disk 1 will mount on my MacBook Pro's, so I used Disk Utility to create an image. I created one using Master DVD/CD, but this made a .cdr file that was over 5GB. I was able to burn a DVD+R DL for that, but that doesn't work in the iMac.
I then created a compressed disk image .dmg file which made the size right at 4.4GB. It is just a hair larger than I can burn with either the Disk Utility or Toast v. 6.0.1. No matter what I do I can't seem to make backup copy of the Disk 1 Installer to fit on a single DVD. I tried using Toast to just make a copy of the DVD, but when I insert a single-sided DVD, it still tells me there is not enough room on the DVD. Help!
    Thanks.

Disk 1 and Disk 2 retail Tiger install discs?
What color are the labels, and what do they say on them? The retail version of Tiger is generally a single DVD with a black label. There were also a small number of retail Tiger CD sets made, with I believe 4 CDs. I'm not aware of a Tiger retail version that consists of two install DVDs.<<
The labels are both gray in color. Disk 1 says iMac Mac OS X Install Disc 1 (version 10.4.10). The 2nd disk just says Mac OS X Install Disc 2 (no iMac). Both say they are part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold separately. With an iMac this old, would they have come with this iMac originally?

Don't. Use. 2TB for system. Seriously.
    Use that for data.
Get yourself a $89 Samsung 840 120GB instead along with Icy Dock $15. You will. Love it.
You don't need a large drive for the system. All you need to do is MOVE all the data and media files and every thing else, just leave the small 4GB /Users/myuseraccount/Library on the boot drive with the OS and apps. Everything else gets off loaded.
Leave your drive you ahve now as is for backup. Move data and clone the system.

  • Open resetlogs is not  working when creating clone db with online backup

    Hi All,
I am trying to create a clone database using hot backup of a database .
    STEPS THAT I FOLLOWED
    LET ----- >CURRENT_DB NAME=DEV
    CLONE DATABASE NAME=DEVCLONE
    steps PERFORMED FORM DEV DB
    - put the database in backup mode using 'alter database begin backup'
    - copy all the data files to a different folder
    - during copy i have performed some operations on the DB (creating users, tables, dmls etc...)
    - in between copying i also performed log switch
    - after completion of copy , "alter database end backup"
    - created a backup control file in a human readable format (alter database backup controlfile to trace as ........)
steps performed for clone DB side ((DEVCLONE)
    - created a parameter file for the database .
    - modified the backup control file so that it will point to the location of copied destination of datafiles
    - set the ORACLE_SID
    - then 'sqlplus / as sysdba
    - starup nomount
    - run the modified control file ( created a control file for the clone database)
    - recover the database using "recover database using backup controlfile"
I have provided the archive files that it was asking for (archive logs that has been generated in DEV DB)
then i canceled the recovery by typing "cancel"
    - recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
    then typed "cancel"
    - then try to open the database with open resetlogs but it showed below error
    alter database open resetlogs
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
    ORA-01110: data file 1: 'D:\DATA_GUARD\DEVHOT\SYSTEM01.DBF'
please help me on this ......
    Thanks

Thanks , now i am able to open the DB in open reset logs mode .
Previously , when i had not taken the archive log after "alter database end backup" , i was not able to open the db with open resetlogs because the
fuzzy status of all the datafile headers were YES .
But after taking the archive log that got generated after "alter database end backup" and applying it on the clone db(Created with HOT backup ) the datafile_header status got changed from YES to NO .
So for that i am able to open the clone db with open resetlogs .
Can you please help me with a small description why this is happening ?
    Thanks.......

  • Satellite Pro C855-1TC boot error - backup does not work

    Hi
My laptop went curput 2 days after I done a back up.
Came up with an error code: oxc00000f
I tried using the backup disk but ask to delete all on hardisk which i didn't
I have all my photo's etc on there,
I tried all the other options. It says came up were windows is installed the drive is locked and unlock and try again. How do you unlock?
Also the laptop was preinstalled. The laptop didn't come with the disk
How do you find your product key code?
Its not on a label on the laptop. Just Windows 8 home sticker,
Typicaly, warranty run out month before grrr.
I can borrow a friends windows 8 disk but I need my key no so frustrating
Im no techno fob just need advise please.
    Thanks amanda

The laptop did not come with any disks because there was a possibility to create own recovery medium (USB or Disk) using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery Medium Creator.
If you dont have such disk, you order this here:
    http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
    Now back to your issue:
Press power button and then F12
Now you should see some bootable devices. Last option is HDD Recovery.
Check if you could recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Regarding the images on your disk.
Well, its possible to remove the HDD and to connect this HDD to another computer using external USB-SATA caddy. This allows you to move the pictures to another computer.
Note: this needs to be done before running the HDD recovery process.

  • How do I create an Oracle 10g offsite backup

Total size of the datafiles that make up the tablespaces of the DB = 1532121.6875 Mb
This size will eventually grow to about 6-7 terrabytes
I used the following query to determine the above size:
SELECT sum(bytes/1048576) FROM dba_extents; I saw this question poseted on another site
QUESTION POSED ON: 15 August 2007
I recently handled a project whereby we have many site servers at various places in our country and there is a central server in Delhi (India). My project is to take a backup of the local server and post that backup to the central server via Internet. I chose the RMAN (Recovery Manager) approach. Using that approach I can back up the database and connect to the remote database. But I can't find how to post the backup to the remote server. Please give me guidance regarding this project.
    This was the answer:
    EXPERT RESPONSE
Basically, there are two options to have RMAN back up to a remote server. One, back up locally and then FTP the backup to the remote server. Two, create a network file share from the database server to the remote server. Have RMAN back up to the network file share. It will think the file system is local, but in actuality, the file system is in another location.
Currently a level 1 incremental backup is done at 10:00PM every night to the array (this takes approximately 1 hour to be completed). I am interested in doing a full hot offsite backup of the DB to a disk on another server.
Can anyone tell me how would I be able to do this using RMAN and/or backing locally and then FTP'ing the backup to a remote sever.
Can anyone also confirm if the calculation for the size of the DB is accurate?
( I did the calculations based on what I saw at this site and this site)
I would like to do this in preperation for some firmware upgrade that our Sun support would like to do on the array, I would like to implement a script (or maybe use RMAN) to do a nightly offsite backup. I would still need to do the DB backup to the array...but what files do I copy off the array (to the remote server) for an offsite backup of the DB.
I would really appreciate any help.
    MY CURRENT RMAN CONFIGS

    I am using the following software/hardware :

    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.3.0 Production

    SunOS myserver 5.9 Generic_118558-34 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-T12
SunFire E2900 Server with Sun Storage Tek 6140

Thanks for the help, I took a look at the script. Suppose however I didn't/couldn't do any modification of the Oracle RMAN settings (without voiding my support contract). Could I simply copy the necessary DB files to a remote server, would I be able to do a restore (if necessary) from those copied files?
Like I have pointed out before, currently an incremental level 1 backup (to the array) is done nightly at 10 (and it takes approximately 1 hour)
[....I am also working on updating the support contract ]
