Creating pdf when document is open

When I first installed Acrobat 9 Standard, I was able to select Adobe from my menu to create a pdf while I had my document (ie, Word doc) open.  The Adobe selection has disappeared from my toolbar (I am using Microsoft 2007).
How can I get this option back?

You might try a repair of Acrobat. Close open applications. Open Acrobat. Use the "repair" feature available under Help. Reboot & check the Office applications for availability of PDFMaker.

  • 'Failed to create object' when trying to open PDF attachment in Dynamics GP 10 OLE notes

Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 users who updated to Adobe Reader X are getting errors when trying to open or create an OLE attachment on a note.
They get 'Failed to create object' when trying to open an existing and getting 'Failed to connect.
And " Link may be broken" when trying to create a new one.
PDF attachments work pretty fine with previous version of Acrobat reader 7,8,9 up tp 9.4
Now that we install Acrobat X, something has changed.
It only does this for PDF attachments, Other file types work fine.
I was able to remove Adobe Reader X and install a prior version to work around the issue.
Has Adobe developed any Fix for the integration of X and OLE objects.
    regards,

    Hi Gestis,
What version of Adobe Reader are you using?
If its less that 10.1.2, please update it to 10.1.2 and then try to open PDF attachment inDynamcs GP OLE notes.

  • Create PDF/X1A Document Dynamically in PHP

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first time posting in this forum, so hopefully iv posted in the correct part =)
I am in the middle of createing a web based system, written in PHP, and one of the requirements of this system is to create a PDF/X1A document dynamically.  The user will input some data into the webpage and then upon submitting the page a new PDF/X1A will be created, at least that is the aim.  I have trawled the intenet with no joy.
I have read that i will ba able to create a PDF/X1A document using Photoshop, InDesign and some other Adobe products.  This is not going to be useful in terms of my requirements unfortunatly.
Please could someone inform me if creating a PDF/X1A document dynamically is possible ?  If it is not, are there any work arounds i can use to fulfil my requirements ?
    Regards,
    -Ben

It is possible to create PDFs (of any flavor) using programming. You can create your own pdfs if you know the language specification or you can use one of Adobe's LiveCycle Server products to dynamically created pdfs. This latter method is more expensive, but probably easier to work with and easier to scale.

  • Creating PDFs from documents with graphics having transparent background

I came across this problem when making PDFs of PowerPoint presentations but I have found that the same thing happens in Word.
PDFs created from documents containing graphics having transparent backgrounds end up being very large (usually much larger than the source documents) and rendering slowly on the screen. The graphics are either JPGs with background set as transparent using the Set Transparent Color tool on the picture toolbar in MS Office applicatons, or PNGs that already have transparent backgrounds when inserted in the document. PDFs made from the same documents in which the graphics do not have transparent backgrounds are much smaller and render more quickly.
When I try to select the graphics in the resulting PDFs using the Touch-up Object tool, I find that each graphic is actually made up of many individual graphic lines. Graphics without a transparent background select as a single object.
I have tried several PDF creation tools and all kinds of settings but nothing seems to make much of a difference. The only way I can get a reasonable file size is to reduce resolution in the PDF creation settings to the point that they are unacceptable.
This happens to me in the following applications:
    * MS Word 2003
    * MS PowerPoint 2003
I have tried these PDF creation tools:
    * Acrobat 7 Pro
    * JAWS PDF Creator 3.60
    * Bullzip PDF Printer 6.0
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?
    Thanks.

Well we can color this one solved. What I figured out I can do is have the application tell Word to print-to-file using an Apple LaserWriter (or other PostScript) printer, and put the resulting file in a folder that is being watched by Distiller. Distiller then converts the PS document to PDF and I'm in business.
So no change in the user process, and no need to crack open a new API and add it to the existing application. Works for me.
Thanks to all for the suggestions and specific links and other information of interest...

  • Image in header disappears when document is opened with iPad Pages

I'm trying to create company templates for standard files that can be both accessed from my Mac and iPad via iCloud. Howerver, I can't get the iPad version to include the image that was added within the Mac version and saved to iCloud.
    Here is what's happening:
    1. Make new document with Mac version of Pages
    2. Insert an image in the headder (company logo in PDF format but I've also tried EPS & PNG as well)
    3. Save documnet to iCloud
    4. Open document from iCloud with iPad version of Pages
    5. Image disappears (to clarify, the image is shown in the thumbnail view on the iPad but disappears once opened)
If I don't make any changes to the document on the iPad and reoppen it on the Mac the image is still there. However, if I make any changes to the document with the iPad and then open the modified file on the Mac the image remains missing.

I have never heard that inserting an image into a header is a bad thing; can you please explain why you say it's never a good thing to do?
As far as I know, this is a very common method and is the only way that I'm aware of to create a header with a company logo that will repeat on subsequent pages within the document. By making the image a background image, you lose this ability and the image will only show on the first page of the document.
To answer your suggestion, yes, making the image a background image will make it visible on the iPad however this is not the issue, as images within the body of the document do not have the disappearing issue that I'm experiencing with images in the header.
If inserting images in the header is bad thing, do you have another method that you could share that would achieve the same result; that is an image (logo) that will automatically repeat on every subsequent page that is added to a document?

  • Creating PDF when No Files Match Search

I am trying to create a pdf from an existing word document.  When I go to the folder containing the particular document (and other documents as well), I get the response "No items match your search" and no documents are shown at all when I know there are multiple documents in the folder.

Have you tried creating the PDF directly from WORD, either by printing to the Adobe PDF printer or by using PDF Maker (or both)?

  • 'Fixing' default Zoom level when document is opened

I wanted to add this to an existing Thread, but could find no option to do so. To fix the default Zoom level, e.g. to 100%, when opening a PDF with Reader X - click 'Edit' in Menu bar>Preferences (bottom of drop-down menu list)>Page Display (in 'Categories:' box on LH side) - at top of Preferences dialog box, in 'Default Layout & Zoom' section, select required Zoom level from drop-down list. Click 'OK' at bottom-right of Preferences dialog box. NB. It appears that you are not able to set a 'Custom' Zoom level, only select an item from the drop-down list.

    I would like to clarify.
You cannot do this in a browser, you must open the ReaderX application from your programs menu.
Then navigate to: Edit > Preferences

  • Cannot create pdf when using Suitcase 11 installed fonts

I have Acrobat 9 Standard, and use it with Windows XP Professional. When I purchased it, I already had Suitcase 11.0.1.52 installed. Everything has been working fine for months. Now, when I print to Adobe PDF and have any fonts that were installed with Suitcase rather than Windows, it prints gibberish. If I install those fonts to Windows, everything is fine. I haven't made any changes to either program. However, after this happened a few times, I did a repair install to Acrobat, but that did not help. Any suggestions? Thank you.

You need to look at the log file produced by Distiller. If it is being erased after the PDF is created, then uncheck the delete box in the Adobe PDF printer. When you have the log, then posting it would help. You most likely have fonts that are not licensed for embedding.

  • Press Quality PDFs created in CS4 show as "damaged" when attempting to open in Acrobat 5

I've been having problems creating PDFs that can be opened in Acrobat 5. While using InDesign CS4, I'm trying to print to the Adobe PDF driver using the Press Quality setting, which as it states "can be opened with Acrobat and Adobe Reader 5.0 and later." However, when someone tries to open the resulting PDFs in Acrobat 5, they get a message saying "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." They open just fine in Acrobat 9.
I have been able to export to a PDF and get it to open successfully in Acrobat 5, but unfortunately this is not an option with one file I'm working on (I need to print color separations as a PDF and then pull it into PitStop Pro to make adjustments). Does anybody have any ideas as to why Acrobat 5 isn't able to read these PDFs?
Running Windows Vista Business with SP1 on a Lenovo with an Intel Core2 Duo processor and 3GB of RAM.
    Thanks.

If you print to the Adobe PDF printer you are creating a PS file that is then automatically loaded into Distiller for conversion to PDF. Printing to a different PS file should not make a difference, unless the PS driver is substantially different. You can also print to file with the Aodbe PDF printer and then convert with Distiller (eliminating the automatic Distiller step). If you are printing to a network location, that may be the issue. Acrobat has long had problems with some network connections. To check this out, you might print locally and then move the file to the network drive.
In terms of posting a file, you have to put it on a separate server and then post the link.

Pages crashes when opening any document on iPad 3 Latest version. I tried everything I could find on the net and finally deleted Pages from my device and reinstalled it. Still when I try to create a new document or open a document it just crashes out.

    Try this:
Make sure IOS is updated to latest version
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Pasteboard size is huge when I create a new document

When I create a new document or open an old document in InDesign CS4, the pasteboard is huge. For example creating an 8.5x11 document results in a pasteboard that is 36 inches wide buy 12 inches high. I have read all the solutions posed in other threads and none of them help restore the pasteboard to a reasonable size.
I typically create a document with 0,0,0,0 for margins. Minimum vertical offset for pasteboard in preferences in 1 in.
I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign but the problem is still there. The problem is global (any and all documents i open).
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Are you sure facing pages wasn't selected when you created the document? How many pages are there?
The standard pasteboard dimension is 25.5" wide for non-facing 8.5" wide pages. As far as being a waste of space, you'd be surprised at how often you might need to move a page-wide object onto the pasteboard and still have the ability to see or edit the whole thing.

  • Adobe Acrobat as a server to create PDF using PDF templates and field values

I'm writing a web page to create a PDF using fields that we ask for them in the screen.
    My idea is:
    1. Ask for field values (text values and a photo) in my web
    2. Run Adobe Acrobat to load a PDF template (PDF form) and mix with the field values
    3. Create a final PDF mixing values and template
    4. Show to document to the user in his client web browser. I guess the only way to do that is to create the PDF on a server with Adobe Acrobat Pro and send to the user browser a JPEG that will represent the  PDF: If I do this operation in the PDF visor at the client browser, the problem is that it will will be mandatory to install Adobe Acrobat in each cliente because only this visor can manage javascript.
Can you tell me if this idea is correct? It is possible to use Adobe Acrobat on a Server to create PDF when some proccess needs?

and what other Adobe product o procedure can we use to do that?
I only need to create a PDF mixing PDF Templete, field values and javascript.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Acrobat X - getting started - create pdf

When I open Acrobat X Pro, there is a window that says "Open a Recent File" on the left and "Getting Started" on the right.  The first choice under "Getting Started" is "Create PDF."  When I click on "Create PDF" I get an "Open File" dialogue box.  I don't want to open a file.  I want to create a PDF.  In my particular situation, at the moment, I want to create a PDF from the scanner.  This is an option from the pull-down menus and the buttons, is there a way to make it an option from the "Getting Started" window?

Thanks.  After a while, I started using the big "create" button.  It works to create a new scan to .pdf.  But, can't find a dependable way to insert from scanner.

You cannot customize the entries on the Welcome Screen, but very few people use the right side of the Welcome Screen for routine tasks, it's there as a reminder of the type of things Acrobat can do. Creating PDFs from your scanner is usually activated via the large "Create..." button on the main toolbar, or the File menu.
