Creating PNG, TIFF or JPG graphics with Pages

I couldn't find anything addressing this, so if someone knows of something already, feel free to redirect me.
I'm helping a group out by creating a logo for them and I did so in Keynote and Pages. I know I can save as .pdf and then convert to .jpg or .tiff or whatever...
*But my problem is that I need the background to be invisible (rather than white). From what I've discovered, it needs to be a .png for that, but converting my .pdf to .png doesn't eliminate the background. *
This was never a problem creating things for myself to use on my Mac -because I can always alpha out the background if needed. But they have PCs and will be needing the graphic for all sorts of applications, including over colored objects. This is a free project and I have no money to buy new programs. Tried the Pixelmator demo but can't seem to transfer the image to it without blurring - plus without purchasing the full product there will be a watermark.
I realize if I'm going to do more design work I should probably get a design program - but I need something in the meantime to help me with this project!
Suggestions?

Sounds like you have worked very hard at this.
You may have some problems with rendering this though because with the shadowing iWork programs render it very crudely at 72dpi.
There are some quite simple drawing programs which have as built in features things like the text wrapping on lines.
I use the professional *Adobe Illustrator* which does require some learning but there are easier and much cheaper alternatives which you can use as demo for a month:

Viewing a document created on ios on my Mac with Pages 5.0 wihtout sharing via icloud?

I have Pages 5.0 on my ios device and Mac. When I create a document on my Mac in Pages it will automatically appear on my Pages app on my ios. But when I create a docuemnt on my ios it will not generate on my Mac. I'm pretty sure it used to do this before 5.0.
I know I can share my documents via icloud and pull it up on my browser, but I don't want to have to edit documents on my browser. I'd imagine there has to be a way of just using the Pages app and Pages on my Mac. Is there not a way to pull up the documents I created on Pages on my iso on Pages on my Mac?
It sounds like there have been problems with the upgrade to 5.0. As I mentioned, I believe that it used to automatically generate documens created on my ios on my Mac when my computer would start. Is this soemthign I could solve to downgrading. Or am I not doing something correctly?

It seems as though your documents are syncing to iCloud properly but don't seem to be making their way to your Mac.
Have you tried disabling pages in your iCloud settings, restarting your Mac then re-enabling pages in iCloud.

How to remove banding from exported images (png, tiff) from illustrator layout with gradient

is there any way to remove or reduce banding that I am getting in a layout I've done that contains a gradient? I am exporting raster images (png or tiff) and there is a noticeable stepping of tonalities, rather than a smooth shift

In an 8bit format like PNG you only have 1024 unique levels...
1024 is 10 bits. 8 bits is 256.
But PNG is an RGB 8-bit per channel format. That yields 256^3 (i.e.; 24-bit or 16.7 million) potential "levels" (colors).

What are the specific color values involved?
What is the final use?
What will be the distance across the gradient in its final use?
You have to consider whether the banding is actually in the raster image, or if it is merely an artifact of where/how the image is being viewed.
Banding is not a simple matter of image color depth. Banding is a device-dependent phenomena. The banding you see on your monitor is not the same banding that will be seen on your grayscale laser printer; is not the same banding that will be seen on your CMYK inkjet printer; is not the same banding that will be seen on press. Banding in print is generally more a function of levels of gray (per separation) of the imaging device, and can vary depending on the halftone ruling (assuming conventional AM screening).
Depending on the answers to the questions above, you may very well be fretting over nothing.

Rack Cards with Pages?

Hey everyone, I downloaded the Pages app for my MacBook Pro in the hopes I could create our company's rack cards. I see brochure templates and flyers, but no set rack card template. I'm probably missing something obvious - or not - but I had heard you could this with Pages 09.
Does anyone know how to create a 2 sided rack card with Pages?

When you say "didn't work" it helps to say how it "didn't work" so we can suggest what to do.
Meanwhile:
Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Language & Text > Edit List… check Canadian English/Fançais canadien > OK > drag it to the top of the list > restart Pages
to clear off those pesky southern reactionary tendencies.

btw According to VistaPrint US rack cards are actually 4 x 9". So much easier and more efficent in ISO metric sizes, but unfortunately the USA takes its lead from Myanmar and Liberia.

In the mail app why can't I see single page pdf attachment created by SSRS R2 on iPad with iOS 8?

We have reports that are generated using Sql Server Reporting Services 2008 R2 and are distributed to users by email as a PDF attachment. This worked fine in iOS 7 but ever since users have updated to iOS 8 the single page PDF is missing even though it has the paper clip icon indicating there is an attachment with the email. If the PDF is multiple pages then the PDF icon would appear but there seems to be a problem with the single page pdf that is embedded on the mail app in iOS 8.
We've recreated this issue creating a test report and sent it to iPads that have iOS 7, iOS 8 using different models of iPads (2, 3, 4) and the ones that have iOS 7 work fine. Only the ones that have iOS 8 have this issue. Also tried changing the format of the file to a PNG, TIFF and again the same results on the iPads with iOS 7 display it correctly. Another test we did was send the PDF to our personal email and open it on our home iPads we were not able to see the single page PDF on iOS 8. Looking at the headers of the email I can see the that the Content-Type is multipart/mixed. When the original is forwarded to oneself on the iPad the attachment is included but the Content-Type is application/ms-tnef.

Can you check your email headers, I have also noticed this for reports that are generated using Sql Server Reporting Services 2008 R2. It could to be due to the Content-ID header I believe.
As a single page attachment on iPad will try and display inline, the Content_ID header is possibly affecting this and showing a small blank square as the image instead. Although this isn't defined as inline within the Content-Disposition header and will appear as an attachment on Outlook.

Output a JPG / PNG of a section of a page

Any help would be appreciated with the following.
I have an online preview system where a user can upload an in design document and fill out web form controls (text boxes, check boxes, etc) to generate a quick preview of the output of an in design document as a JPG.
What I want to do next is when a user enters into a form field I want in design server to output a section of the page as a high DPI JPG to show to the user what section of the page the user is editing.
I know the pages and the bounds on which the custom field is on. Is there a way to create a new document or a new page and say output just this section in a higher DPI to output a high res JPG?

I suggest a workflow like this:
1. dialog ask user for number of page and section coordinates (lets say left-up corner, width and height) in active doc;
2. the surrounding area size can be set there as well;
3. this dialog let user to choose some output properties including output file path;
4. entire page is exported to a temp file;
5. new doc and empty rectangle with proper size is created;
6. rectangle's stroke is as wide as surrinding area is set;
7. rectangle's stroke transparency is set to some value (another dialog entry?);
8. page as an image is loaded there and moved to proper position;
9. rectangle is exported as JPG or PNG (CS6+) according to dialog choices.
I should take 1-2 hours. How worth is it for you?

Exporting TIFF with Pages

Hi everyone. I'm a stranger here and need your help.
I got a huge problem when I tried to export TIFF images with Pages.
I use Pages to create documents or issues and export them into TIFF, then send them to printers. Everything is OK with Lion. But since I updated to Mountain Lion, I couldn't do that anymore. When I choose Print/Save PDF to folder as TIFF, I got a warning saying "The action “Render PDF Pages as Images” encountered an error." I've searched on the Internet and got some solutions but they didn't work. I couldn't find any workflows in Library/PDF Services except "Save PDF to Web Receipts Folder" and "Mail PDF" which I don't use. Again, with Lion, I can find those workflows, change the rules or create a new one. But now, with MT, in two Library folders, I can't find those workflows. Oddly enough, they appear on the PDF menu in Pages.
I can only use Pages to create things, currently I just can't finish my work. I'm very nervous.

The pixels are not the actual measure of quality.
It is true you need 300dpi or 120lpc for quality output, but OSX may be downgrading the resolution of all or parts of the page and all you are doing is uping the resolution from the lower OSX output.
More pixels, same information does not improve the quality.
Are your actual photos in the layout 300dpi images at the size they are used? If so, without any transparency they should stay that resolution in the pdf and final output.
A pdf file opened in Preview and saved as a tiff allows you to set the resolution anyway. Make sure it is the same as in Pages any change will blur/degrade the images.
Text should be at a much higher resolution to be sharp (at least 800dpi preferably 1200), and best left as vector graphics in a pdf file.

Same problem here (no graphics in header or footer) and the problem has been reported months ago. It is another bug/feature lost when Apple moves from 09 to the iCloud-compatible versions. Complain to Apple, you may have better chance than me and they may finally listen to their users....

All graphics in Pages document are now boxes with "?" question marks. Help!! Urgent!!

Created a 150 page document on one computer with Pages 09 and saved to the desktop. Put onto a flash drive and transferred to another computer. Opened it with Pages 09, made modifications, and saved back onto the flash drive. Transferred document to original computer, overwrote original file, and now all the graphics in the document have been replaced with boxes with a question mark inside it. Went back to the document on the flash drive, it is the same way. Opened the document on the "other" computer and it is the same way. Have searched Support and the User Guide to find an answer and cannot. This is a dissertation that has to mailed out like now. How do we fix?

I am just an end user like you so I don't know why. I have not heard about this problem before or I might have when people have tried just save on a server instead of their own computer. The person that just opened the document from the USB stick and saved back on should have first transferred the document to his/hers computer, then worked on it and saved it and THEN copy it over to the stick.
Use CDs instead for transferring files or emails. That is much safer.
Another thing some people has to learn it the hard way!

[JS] Export jpg from each page with specified number from database

Hello,
I imported a database into InDesign (CS 5 with OS X 10.7.2), so that every product and product number is on a different page in InDesign. Now I need to export each page to a jpg-file. The name of the jpg should be "productnumber.jpg".
I found the script „PDFExportCropper.jsxbin“, which does what I want but creates pdf-files instead of jpgs.Thereafter, I can convert the pdfs to jpgs automatically with Photoshop.
But: The script takes hours and hours to create the pdf-files: Right now, more than 8 hours for only 100 pdf-files. The database has 65.000 products!
Any idea to improve the workflow? Any other script available which I did not find but does what I need?
As a designer, I have no experiences at all in scripting.

The problem is, once I create a document in Pages and turn it into an ePub to be opened in iBooks, I delete the document in Pages, because I don't need two copies taking up space on my iPad. Before Maverick, iTunes would backup everything in my iBook app on my iPad. If something ever happened to my iPad, all of my created ePubs would be lost and I would be screwed. I suppose I could keep everything on Pages and go to iCloud and download my documents to my Mac, but that is a lot of steps. I may have to do that if there is no other way, but I am hoping someone will have the answer for me. Pretty disappointed in iBooks app for Mac at this point.

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

TextEdit is an application on your Mac.
Type TextEdit into Spotlight (magnifying icon top right on the menubar) to quickly locate and open it.
It is the basic Text/Word Processor (but actually very capable) that comes with all Macs and a good place to test differences if you hit a problem.

Am creating document with Pages. pages are in "portrait" orientation, but two charts at end need to be "landscape". changing the orientation for one section changes it for entire doc. can i have different orientations in Pages for different sections?

Even when i put the appendices in a different section, changing the page orientation changes it for the entire doc.

Make a separate document the size and orientation you want.
Turn that into a pdf and add it back into the original Pages document or into the pdf from from that document.

Nothing sensitive about it. I just want to show the correct document numbers on all pages in print out.
So, I wanted to cover up by comments, but commenting on each page will be difficult. So, I wanted to comment the same on all pages.

How to create a PDF document with page curls using Adobe CS 4?

My goal is to create a PDF document with page curls. I am using Adobe CS 4.
1.      The document was created in Adobe InDesign CS 4 where the page turn (curl) transition was applied.
2.      Then the document was exported to .swf.
3.     The .swf file was imported into   Adobe Acrobat Pro to create a PDF file with flip page or page curl transitions.
These are the problems.
1.      The background is not transparent.
2.      Page dimensions have to be increased at least an inch in width and length so that the full page can show
3.      The command and+   will not only increases the document's screen size. It increases the page margins.

PDF was never designed to support the Flash page curl effect (it didn't exist back then). Anything you try (and you've tried the standard hack) will look like a hack. Personally, I don't think the effort is worth it for an effect that's much overused.
