Creating polygonal links in PDF

Is it possible to create polygonal links in PDF? Might be useful, e. g. for interactive geographical maps.
In the PDF spec, I have read about the /QuadPoints key in Link annotations. However, I didn't understand the documentation here, does it serve this very purpose? Or does it create a number of quadrilateral, not necessarily rectangular (8 vertex coordinates would allow this) interactive regions that may or not overlap?

Does this mean that you could create a link annotaion region that appears as a rotated rectangle for example? Say I wanted a hyperlink region to cover a URL that is part of a raster image within the PDF. The URL appears at a 30 deg rotation on the page. Is this something that can be done in Acrobat Pro? It seems that the link tool in Acrobat Pro can only create 0 degree link regions.

  • Is there a way to re-size to a smaller portion when creating clickable links on pdf?

    Hello everyone,
I am not sure if I will be clear on what I need, but I'll try my best.
I am currently doing a prayer book for my mom's website and need to add clickable links in the menu (so it will be more easy for the readers to simply click to go to the prayer they want to see). However, some  of the prayers don't take a whole full page and I would like to know if it is possible to re-size to a smaller zone in the page so they can only see the prayer and not the other one following it?
I have tried to resize the red square in the left side of the pdf but it doesn't change anything as it goes only diagonally and not vertically, which results in still seeing the other prayer that comes after the one I want to link to.
Can someone assist me on this? It will be much appreciated.

When you create the link choose the radio button for "Go to a Page View".
Then, when you see the dialog for Create Go To View, leave this dialog open and go to the page you want to link to and zoom into the area you want to magnify.
Once you have the magnification you're looking for, click on the Set Link button.

  • Possible to create a link in PDF?

I am new the Acrobat SDK.  I have been asked to develop a tool that searches for a specific string in a PDF document and then creates a UNC link from it to a shared document on the network.
This is currently done manually using the Adobe Acrobat product.  However we'd like to automate this process as it needs to be repeated for severl documents.  Reading the SDK docs, it was not immediately clear to me if it supports editing the document by creating links.
Does anybody know if this is possible and can you point me towards any documentation on this topic?
    Thanks.

    HI Bernd,
The video above does not show me how to link to a video have it start playing.
I know it is also possible in indesign to have a button link to a specific point in a video, but I haven't been able to find out how to do that from a text link.
so for example. the text could say "watch our video, or click here to learn about subject two".
where - "learn about subject two" takes the user to a specific part of the video, and makes it start to play.

  • Does Keynote allow you to create clickable links in pdf files yet?

I searched the forum and found a similar question that was asked back in 2005, and with newer versions of Keynote now available I hope I'm not posting a duplicate question here.
I would like to be able to use iWork's Keynote to make small, business-type cards for downloads as .pdf files and I'd like to include a clickable website url or email link, if possible.
How about doing this in Pages? I haven't used pages yet but I presume you can save the files as pdf's?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
An afterthough - if I need Acrobat to do this is there a large learning curve involved?
I see many 'Viral eBooks' and brochures being created for and by PC users, and when I download them the links are clickable on the Mac. You see lots of programs for PC's being advertised that are supposed enable you to to this, but none for the Mac. I'm hesitant to invest in Acrobat as I only want to do one or two business card type pdfs with clickable links.

    Hi Annie,
I ran a quick test and Keynote exported a slide with both a clickable link to an email address and a website. After printing to PDF (command-P/Save as PDF), there were no clickable links.
As far as I know, you need at least Mac OS X 10.4.4 for this to work, and of course Keynote 3.

  • How to create link for pdf file in discoverer worksheet

    Hi All,
I would like to create a link for pdf file into discoverer report (worksheet).
So that i can open linked pdf file using worksheet link.
Can any one tell me about this?
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
I think the best way to do this is to use a database directory so that you can access your pdf file as a bfile. Then create a mod_plsql procedure that sets the mime type and downloads the pdf file. You then create a calculation in the EUL then returns the URL to your mod_plsql procedure. You can then include this calculation as a hyperlink in your worksheet.
It is not as difficult as it sounds. Please let me know if you need anymore details.

  • Adobe Acrobat - Create a Link from a Polygon

I have a PDF file that displays a map of a city divided into polygons. I would like to allow viewers to mouse over and click a polygon which would then open a more detailed PDF of just that area. Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 has the 'rectangle link' tool but I need to create a polygon link. There is drawing markup polygon tool but it doesn't allow me to assign a link to the polygon after I create it. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Intriguing...
There may be a compromise: If you create one small link rectangle, then copy it to create a bunch of small link rectangles that pretty much fill the polygon, as suggested by Bernd... you can then drag a selection rectangle around them all using the Select Object tool and copy them to another polygon. While still all selected you can edit the Properties to point all the copied links (in one hit) to a new pdf.

  • Creating a link to a Multibyte file with PDF 1.4

I am trying to create a link to a file that contains multibyte characters (specifically Japanese) - unfortunately, I need to conform to the PDF 1.4 standard (I can make things work fine using PDF 1.7 and /UF).
The 1.7 standard says that as of PDF 1.2, a file specification can contain multibyte character codes if you represent them in hexadecimal format. I cannot get this to work, and wonder if someone has any insight into why this might be.
My multibyte file spec is UTF-8 encoded, and this is how I write it (in hex) to the document (without thr UTF-8 BOM). When I later click on that link, I get an error that the specified document does not exist - the part of the filespec that is English characters are displayed correctly, but the Japanese characters show up incorrectly.
Does Acrobat expect these characters to be UTF-8 encoded, or otherwise? I've tried prepended the UTF-8 BOM, but that didn't make a difference. Do I need to UTF-16BE encode them (like with /UF)?
Additional info: I've tried using Acrobat 5 to create a new PDF and inserted a link to a file whose name contains Japanese characters - when clicking on the link in this, I also get the 'file does not exist' error. Also, looking in the PDF, the filespec is NOT hex encoded, and the Japanese characters have been replaced by ???.

Hmm... so, what does it mean when the 1.7 spec says 'In PDF 1.2 or higher, a file specification may contain multiple-byte character
codes, represented in hexadecimal form between angle brackets (< and >).'? If Acrobat 5 supports PDF 1.4, I would have thought this would mean that Acrobat 5 would support multibyte character codes...
I would guess that this puts the final nail in the coffin of creating links to filenames with non Roman characters from Acrobat 5.
Just so I can report this upwards, I see that you are an Adobe employee - are you a support person?

  • Creating a link in a PDF form to open into a new window

I have created the PDF form and every thing seems to be working fine. But I would like to set a link in the form that would open into a separate page. I have tried target="_blank" and onclick="window.open(this.href, 'child', 'scrollbars,width=650,height=600'); return false" with no success. Can someone give me some direction on how to create a link within a PDF form that will open into a new window?

    Try this, using JavaScript:
    app.launchURL("http://www.adobe.com",true);

  • Creating a link to a pdf and then being able to come back to first pdf

    hi there!
I want to be able to create a link in my InDesign document to the glossary (another InDesign document). Of course I am exporting as PDFs and then the user would be able to close the glossary and come back to the first document in the place that they were when they left. This seems like it should be easy, but I can't find a way to come back. Acrobat doesn't have a back button, and when you close the glossary you also close the first document. The user can open the document again, but then they have to find their place.
Is there a way to link to another document and have it open in a new Acrobat window? That's what I really want.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tim.

Hi Steve, thanks very much for that. Wow, I feel lucky to get one of the best. I've seen some of your videos.
Okay, but javascript, eh? Hmm. Okay, I'm listening. Can you give me a bit more? Point me in the right direction?
    Thanks.

  • How can I create a link to a pdf file and show it in the same webpage or in a new tab

It is no problem to create a link. But the formats are limited and  - unbelievable -  the pdf format is not supported??!
Where are the parameter (_blank or _self) to show it for example in the same webpage or in a new tab??!

PDF is media.  It is not a web document.  Your end users must have plug-ins and helper apps installed on their device to see PDFs in browsers.  Depending on their settings, the PDF file may or may not launch in the browser window.  On my system, PDF files download and launch inside Acrobat Professional; not my browser.
The safest approach is to provide a screenshot on your page with a direct link to the PDF file so people can handle it as they wish.  See example:  http://www.adobe.com/manufacturing/3dpdfsamples/3dsolutions/

  • How can I create a link that allows users to convert a Wiki pages into PDF format.

    Hi,
For your requirement, we can add this link to the master page, then it will appear in the pages which apply this master page.
To convert the current page to PDF, you can take consideration of using jsPDF.

  • How do you create a link to download a PDF file?

I'd like to create links so that when clicked, a PDF file associated with the link will automatically be downloaded. I've created a folder where I've stored all of the PDF files, but where on my web host do I put the folder--is it part of the published iWeb folder or should it be kept separate? (I'm using a 3rd party web host, Lunarpages.com)
Second, to create the links, I've written "Download Page" on for each link, highlighted the words, then enabled it as a hyperlink with the inspector. However, this changes "Download Page" to the name of the PDF file. How can I keep the words "Download Page" without changing it to the name of the file? Also, is this the correct way to have a PDF file automatically downloaded when "Download Page" is clicked?
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi there,
While I do not use iWeb, I do use PDF files on my website.
I first create a new folder to hold my PDF files and upload this to my website. When I create and upload PDF files I will upload to this folder. When someone wants to view this files, all they need to do is click on the link I created. After clicking on link, if the user is on a PC, Acrobat Reader is automatically used to view the file or if they are on a Mac, Preview is usually the default viewer (if the they are using Safari, it will simply open in Safari). Just having the extension on yourfile.pdf will cause this and you will not need to do anything else on your end.
FOR EXAMPLE: Download Sample PDF - try it on different browsers and PC's
As far as 'download page', it automatically starts as soon as you click on link. If you are talking about 'saving' the user will always have that option on their end...

    Hi again Raja!
I did as you recommended and installed HTTPWatch and below is the outcome of that program. It is the exact string with the only exception of obfuscated servernames and portnumbers. The last part that begins with "sap_ep_baseurl=" makes me suspicious, is that part really correct? It looks like it's lacking things.

  • Links in PDF created by MS Access work fine in Chrome and Foxit, but seem corrupted in Adobe Reader XI

I am using version 11.0.09.29 of Reader which I understand to be the latest, and version 6.1.4.0217 of Foxit.
The document is Dropbox - D00769 Parish Register Reconstructed.pdf  and I have created this with an MS Access repoort exported as PDF to Dropbox.
If I download this and open in Foxit and click on the first camera icon on page 1 I am taken to the correct URL with no problem http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%20of%20marriage s%201837-1963&S=600&X=D00769&N…   (Note that the full URL is correct and ends N=7, but this forum has shortened what is shown here with an ellipsis.)
Similarly clicking on the second camera icon on page 1 also correctly takes me to http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%20of%20marriage s%201837-1963&S=600&X=D00769&N…
All the links behind all the other camera icons are also correct in Foxit (and incidentally in Chrome).
If I open the same document in Reader and click on the first camera icon I am taken to http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%25On - which is not correct and comes up with an error (a).
Interestingly the second camera icon in Reader takes me to http://hcnhisotonr/ which is very wrong, as does every other camera icon on the same page (b).
It seems that in Reader the first link on each page is as at (a) above, and every other link is as (b) above.
There is no problem with the link in the footer of each page.
I have checked on the forum entries that might have helped (e.g. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1133628) but these seem to be about %20 being encoded as %2520 thereby causing errors, and were solved with a new version of Reader last year. It looks like mine may be a similar but not identical issue.
Any ideas what is going on?
    Thanks

There's something very strange going on with this file. It doesn't actually contain any links (except for in the footer), but the URLs in transparent text located behind the camera icon and the first line of each item.
So if you have the option set to create links from URLs then Acroabt/Reader will recognize that text and convert it into a clickable link...
There are many problems with that, mainly that the URL text overlaps with the actual text of the document. So if you copy the first lines of the first page, it looks like this:
HcN Parish Register of marriages 1837-1963
    Page 1
    http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%On 19 Sep 1837 John Munns (Labourer; aged 19 Years; signed) of 2H0oolfy%w2e0mll wararisa gMesa%rr2i0e1d8 b3y7 -H19u6g3h& FSo=r6d0 0B&aXc=oDn0 b0y7 6B9a&nNn=s7 t&oN A=
Sophia Mann (of Full age; signed) of Holywell
As you can see, the URL string is cut in the middle by the actual text, and is therefore broken when clicked (it happens in the forum system as well, just the same).
Other problems are that it screws up the text, and also that it won't work at all if the setting mentioned above is disabled.
If possible, I would recommend abandoning this weird system altogether and sticking with creating actual Link objects, like you did in the footer.
That is a much more reliable and consistent method of inserting clickable web-links into your file.
