What format should I save the image(s) and whats the best way to go about it? The idea is to use the poster on our company website. I don't want the text to come out blury/pixelated etc
Cheers

Now i want to save it in illustrator
Say what?
pdfs saved from psd can contain vector data for type (if no faux styles have been employed at least) and Vector Masks.

  • What is the Best Format to Save Photo Files?

When I open and edit photos from my digital camera in Photoshop, is it best to always save it as a .PSD as I go?  I read that a JPEG will lose quality each time I re-save...is this also true of a .PSD?
Also, I'm trying to use some photos on a web-page's slideshow, and that web site recommends using "Saving For Web" at 72dpi in Photoshop so it can be viewed at it's best quality.  I tried "Saving for Web" but did not see where to choose the 72dpi setting.  How do I do this?
By the way, I'm using Photoshop Elements 6.0

Save For Web always exports with a 72 ppi resolution. All you need to worry about is the image size, quality, and format. BTW, you should save with a different name as you don't want to overwrite your files with a 72 ppi resolution which looks good on monitor but is NOT good for printing.
There's a video about using Save For Web here:
    http://www.photoshopsupport.com/elements/tt/save-for-web.html
    Tutorial for it here:

Personally, I always work on a copy of my original as I want to keep the original in case I decide to redo it at some point...maybe my retouching skills improve, I simply change my mind, or maybe there's a technology improvement down the line like better noise reduction or maybe some sort of anti-blur fix (Okay, I'm a dreamer...)
PSD files are non lossy...meaning you do not lose quality when they are resaved. JPGs are a lossy format meaning you do lose quality. Personally, I keep my originals and keep my wk in progress in PSD. I only save to JPG when completely done if needed.

  • Best format to save HD video for iPad 2

What is the most effecient way to save an HD video (from iMovie '11 for Mac) with the intended purpose of uploading to an iPad 2 then using the Apple AV adapter to display on a 52" HDTV? I want to lose as little detail as possible which is why I don't want to put it on a DVD. I also don't want to end up with a 20GB file that the iPad will choke on. The video itself is 15 min. and contains a mix of SD and HD clips. Thanks.

    Hi Magnus40,
I'm not sure what you are doing to create this problem. I create web movies all the time and have never had this problem, although, I never use the advanced settings cos I have never had to. When you go to the Quicktime export pane in iMovie you have the quality choices from full quality to web. When you select one of these it gives an estimate of the file size. For that length clip you should not need to use any setting besides full quality. I'd say the problem is coming from the 480x360 aspect ratio. This is what is compressing the file. Have you tried exporting it as full quality and then uploading it? The only problem you face by doing this is, it will take a long time for the movie to load on your website. For a short clip you may find that the CD ROM setting is sufficient.
    Good luck.

  • Best format to save all vhs tapes for future fce

game plan....in panther i am converting all my vhs tapes to dv into fce, then cutting out any junk shots and then exporting to my huge external drive for future use in fce to make movies to idvd 5.
keeping in mind that quality is utmost important.. even though vhs is already soso..so i think a hi compression is a no no.
since fce works in qt do i just export qt movie or should i consider qt conversion to dv stream? mpeg 4 ? or ?????
plus,, 5 years from now i dont want to have it in a format that no longer is in use...

Just use the native Quicktime format of FCE. Don't use any conversion. Just the Quicktime Movie option on export.

  • What is the best format to save in computer playback to match the quality of my camera ( MP4 1080p) - NTSC provides poor quality, MPEG2 files are too large?

I am editing video and would like to share these at the same quality and size as  the original file - MP4 1080 film clips. I am downloading these files to Google, or to another network. Choices under computer viewing result in the following - NTSC provides poor quality and the MP2 1080 more than doubles the file size. Any better choices?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running?
What is your camera? Can we assume your videos from the camera are AVCHD.mp4 (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second?) What is the bitrate and duration of the file?
What is your file size requirement for the export?
H.264.mp4 is a frequently used format used for uploads to various web sites. You can find that format in Premiere Elements in the Share or Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD (most often used) or Share or Publish+Share/Mobile Phones and Players.
Please explain what you mean when you mention NTSC versus MPEG2...I understand MPEG2.mpg or MPEG2.m2t, but what do you mean by NTSC.as an export format.
I will fine tune (customize the reply) with some more details as indicated.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

  • Best format (MV4) (MP4) to save DVD

What is the best format to save dvd files (MV4) (MP4) or ???. I have made DVD's in iDVD and the original DVD's are deteriorating. Thanks

    XonoBoom,
With PrPro, you CAN Import Layered PSD's. You will be given two choices, when you do: Import as Footage, with the Layers Flattened (the term for merging all Layers into one), or as a Sequence. Now, the latter has slightly different results, so you will want to explore this a bit more closely, and the Help File will be, well "helpful." The Layered PSD will come in as a Sequence, and in a Bin. The Bin will need to be twirled open, and from there, one can do all sorts of operations, such as Nest that Sequence into another, but for what I do (and what you might wish to do), you can just click+drag each Layer (they appear separately in the Project Panel), to Video Tracks, where they can be used in their order of creation, or can be moved about, as is required. One can add Effects, or adjust the Fixed Effects, such as Opacity, to each Layer individually. I do this for a lot of Titles, and just create those Images with Layers in PS. A little planning is required, in that creation, but once you get the hang of it, it will become second-nature.
A variation from PS is the Layer Comp, which is useful for intricate animation. That "variation" is on the PS end of the process/workflow.
Good luck, and if you do much work with graphics into your Video, I think that you will save a lot of time, plus have so many creative doors opened to you. Just spend a little time looking over the Import PSD as a Sequence, so you will understand what you are getting, what you are seeing and how to handle it. Many are not initially expecting a real Sequence, and worry about what to do with that.

  • Best format for viewing movie on Windows ?

    Hi,
I use a Mac, but need to make compressed movies for someone to download and view on a Windows PC. They are accessing the movies from various internet cafes, and the computers dont always have QuikTime installed. What is the best format to save my movie in to allow them to view it without needing to download additional software?
    Thanks....

  • Best format for pics thats compatable with PE3

I'm scannig in some photos and stuff for a project and wondering what is th best format to save the pictures as. This scanner offers several different formats, jpeg, bitmap, tiff, just to name a few. Alot of the stuff is old newspaper clippings so picture "quality" is not as important as if it were the last photo of Grandma before she past away, but some will be old photos.  Also the scanner offers a DPI setting what should this be set at? All help appreciated. Thanks.

For this sort of work, I use TIFF at the highest bit-depth that the scanner, and its software, will allow, plus at the highest resolution. These will be big files, but that is the way that it is.
I then take the images into Photoshop and do the necessary work on the highest rez files that I can get. I do a Save_As to .PSD with all Layers and Adjustment Layers. When done, I drop the bit-depth to 8-bit, resize to the video Frame Size, and Save_As .PSD. TIFF would work too. I am less a fan of JPEG, but others find no problem, and the files are smaller. Here is an ARTICLE on using some automation in PS to resize the images for video.
    Good luck with your Project,
    Hunt
PS - forgot to mention the resolution. In video, this does not matter, but my Actions in PS for resizing are set to drop it to 72 ppi, but I start with the highest available, whether 1200, or 2400. I do not use any interpolation, so the ppi/dpi will be the highest physical (not software) resolution available.

  • Best format for saving & resizing  photo with transparent background

I have some product shots where I cut out the background, so the background is now transparent. What is the best format to save these in to preserve the transparency and also resize the photo in the future? I seem to remember from long ago that Tiffs don't resize easily? but when I saved the shot as Eps I couldn't find a way to preserve the transparency. These are for a client who wants to send these shots to various publications for ads, so I need something they can resize. Thanks for your help!

Transparency is only saved in EPS files with an embedded clipping path. EPS files limit you to 1-bit transparecy, meaning you either show a portion of the image or you don't. This kind of transparency means hard edges around your subject.
If you use PSD,PDF,PDP files, you can offer a soft transition from opaque to transparent in as many as 256 steps. If you have already removed the background in your layered file, then this would be the way to go. The latest releases of QuarkXPress and all releases of InDesign support PSD.

  • What is the best format and resolution to save my logo images for Adobe Premiere 3.0 videos.

    Hello,
I've had great success using this forum in the past and was wondering if someone could help me out. I save my logo images for my video as transparent PNG at 72 DPI (because i read an article that stated that 72 dpi was good) in Illustrator for my Premiere-edited videos, but they seem pixelated. • What's the best file format to save a book and then have it printed?

Hi all, I'm putting together a photo album, in colour if it's not too expensive, for my school and using Aperture's book-making function to do so. I see that there are a number of way to save the book, including as a pdf and jpg. What would be the best way to save this 40-50 page book so that I can take it to quality printer and have the book produced? Are there differences in cost depending on the file? Thanks.

Your printer will want the PDF. If your design includes bleeding photos across two pages be sure to discuss this with the printer and have them look at how Aperture handles those facing pages. There should be no problem but its something to check.

  • What's the best way to save an 8.5 x 11 image for use as a page background in a PDF?

What's the best way to save an 8.5 x 11 image for use as a page background in a PDF? My goal is to have a relatively small final .pdf file size that includes numerous pages with full 8.5 x 11 images as backgrounds in the document. If I save at 8.5 x 11 and 72dpi (example), the image is not 8.5 x 11, and the quality is not good enough. I need help with size, dpi, and file format to save as before I place it in InDesign and then save as a .pdf.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Do exactly what I said then.  Create the InDesign document of the required dimension, and chose whether it will be high quality print, or Interactive PDF.  It really doesn't mater what format you bring the image into that document.  It can be JPG, PNG, but I usually use native Photoshop PSD.  The image does have to be of high enough resolution, but it can be many times bigger than iis required for the final export.  (InDesign does not import the image, but rather references it on your hard drive.)
When you have placed your text and finished your page, then export it to PDF, but go through the tabs chosing suitable settings.  If the image needs to be downsized, InDesign will do that at this stage while building the PDF.
If you can tell us how this presentation will be made (Projector, overhead projector, printed page etc. or just emailed to the end users) we can help you more with the final output settings.

  • What is the best format for a image with transparency?

If I create an image in PhotoShop with Transparency, what is the best format and size to save it in for it to work in FCE?

    Did that link help you?
    Thanks Tom.
    The link helped.
FCE kept crashing when I put the image on the time line and I figured out that it probably had to do with the size of the image that I was using. It was 4656x3400 and CMYK.
Once I reduced it and changed to RGB it worked.
    Love your new book!

Repartition and format the drive for a Mac:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
