Creating project site failed in Project Server 2013

Hi Folks!
I save project site as template (even tried without making any change) and it seems a very common error but what it refering to in Queue Jobs error field below, it isn't! I had one SharePoint list on root site and all sub-site (project site) add stuff to
it through a custom web part. All is working good on staging server. But while moving on production and I guess (drunk probably! :() mistakenly deleted workflow column. I deleted the whole list now, removed all web parts, even created new instance of pwa :O
same error. Anyone who can guess any solution!!!

Hi Christoph,
I apologise I should have posted the solution here. However, yes indeed I did solve it. As far as I remember I went through the Recycle Bin of SharePoint and restored the deleted List which contains the column, error was refering to and all started working
fine. I guess I recreated a new list and didn't touch the restored one, may be beause of fear factor :)

I want different logo images to be set for each Project Site of different project Separately in Project server 2010.
Scenario is, we have different Project of different client , each client want different logo for their respective Projects.

Hello. Store the logo somewhere accessible, either in a library at the PWA site collection or on the project site, make a note of the URL to the site then navigate to the project site and depending on what logo you want to update you can click Site Actions
> Site Settings > title and description then update the image URL there. Alternatively, on the homepage of the project site add an image web part then reference the new logo using the URL. Paul

With 2010, you don't have to attach content database to another PWA. We can restore the site using unattached content database from Central admin
1. Restore backup of content database in SQL server
2. Launch Central Admin and Navigate to >> Backup and Restore >> Recover data from unattached content database.
3. Enter restored database name and select option export site or list
4. Export your desired site
5. Restore exported site using stsadm command with import switch
stsadm -o import -url "<a href="http:///<pwainstancename>/<workspacename">http://<servername>/<pwainstancename>/<workspacename>" -filename "c:\<backupdir>\<workspacename>" -nofilecompression

Manual creation of Project Site for a project is taking old project site template.

Dear All,
I have modified the project site and save it as a template to associate it with an EPT so that the modification will reflect in new project sites.
For existing projects, I am deleting the old project sites (after taking backup) and recreating so that new modifications will be there for existing projects and I am able to do so.
But, for 1 of the project, when I have deleted the project site and recreated, still it is taking the old template (i.e. new modifications has not been seen).
Kindly advice in some areas so that I can jump in and around and can find out a solution so that the project site will take modified project template.
Example to get the issue in an easy way:
ProjectA:
Project Site: http://epm/pwa/ProjectA
Issue List:
Column: Category [data type as Choice: Cat1, Cat2, Cat3]
Have saved 1 project site as a template and associated with an EPT with the following changes:
Column: Category [data type as Choice: Choice1, Choice2, Choice3]
Then, deleted the project site: http://epm/pwa/ProjectA and recreated.
So, it should take the modifications in the project site.
But, it is showing as Column: Category [data type as Choice: Cat1, Cat2, Cat3].

Nope. It is similar as other projects.
How do you proceed to create the new project site? Do you go to the site actions, then new site and pick up your new template?
First I have modified 1 of the project site and saved that site as a template.
Then, I have deleted the existing project site (from Project Sites under Operational Policies) and recreated so that project site will gets created from the new template. But, it's not happening.

Customize PWA Project site to show Project Summary View to Manager

Dear All,
I want to add some web part @Project Level so that Manager can come to know about Project status @ a glance without going in deep & looking every task.
This summary should include following data as :
Project Name ; Start Date; Finish Date; Project Status So far; Remaining work, Project Manager Name like that.
Or if any one having better idea as how to present Project status to Management then let me know.

PS2010 - Project Site Provisioning Settings - Project Site Permissions

If the option is selected, are there any projects that will not have the permissions synced to the project site? I would like to not update the security on the 5000+ closed/completed project sites as this takes an excessive amount of SQL resources,
especially when the Team Members group has grown to more than 500 users.
I changed the Team Members category setting of 'View Project Sites' to unselected so changes to the group membership will not initiate a bulk project sync. This was bringing my server to its knees. Site sync now takes only a few seconds to reset
security for ~40 users (per site).
If Project Mangers membership changes, the auto-sync will initiate over 5000 jobs to have all users removed and readded back to each project site. Even at 90 seconds per site, this will take hours and block the queue. If I could instead have
it only sync against the Active or at least non-archived project the time would be reduced to less than an hour.

Hi Greg,
Project Server Sync will be for all the users if a ERP Sync or User Sync is invoked. However you can perform a Site Synchronization from Project Sites link in Server Settings.
Ideally, it would be best if you can take a backup of the closed or completed projects so that the backup is available in Archive DB. Once the backup is complete delete these projects from the Draft and Published DB's.
This should meet your requirements and also will have less number of projects in display whenever a user is trying to work on any of the projects.

SSIS modules created with VS2013 fail on SQL Server 2012

HI all,
i've just installed SQL Server 2012, VS 2013 (Premium) and SQL Server Data Tools (SSDTBI_VS2012_x86_ENU) on my local workstation (running Win7 x64).
Creating and debugging of new SSIS modules works well, while execution of the module using DTEXEC fails with:
   Description: Package migration from version 8 to version 6 failed with error 0xC001700A "The version number in the package is not valid. The version number cannot be greater than current version number.".
How to create SSIS modules with VS2013, which are executable on SQL Server 2012?

Creating a Publishing Page with SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise & SharePoint Designer 2013

How can I create a Publishing Page using my existing Master Page. The purpose of this is that I want to use page layouts within that page. I cannot understand how to do that. I even tried from the SharePoint Designer 2013. Could someone help me to solve

Are you having trouble creating a custom page layout, getting it to appear when creating a Publishing Page, or getting it to use your custom Master Page?
- If you are having trouble creating a page layout take a look at the following article:

Project Server 2013 - After host header defined, WSSCreateSiteFailure

after configuring webapplication and provisioning PWA (URL: http://<server_name>:<port>/pwa), i have extended the webapp to use host header and SSL protocol. now URL become something like this https://mycompany.com/pwa
if users access the site using this new URL, project site creation gives an error in queue as following. in ULS logs there is nothing useful as well. and if i open/publish the same project again, it gives me an error that project site is already in use.
once point which may can makes a difference is that security certificate for above URL is yet to be configured, and due to this users are getting this certificate error in their browser while access site. could
this be a cause?
however if users use the site using the same old URL, project site get successfully created.
any guesses?

and yea i think now we are hitting more on the target.
patch level is 0, its a RTM version without any update. and applying any kind of patch is also not easily possible, because its one server hosting a very complex and huge SharePoint portal as well.

here he has mentioned a workaround until we apply patch, and also quoted it as a good way of configuring.
From Brian's Blog:
The first would be to use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) as the Default zone Url, and then add an Internal
Url to the same Default zone for the server name – http://Project2013/.
Another option would be to set the FQDN as the Default zone Url and then add the shorter version as the Intranet zone or Custom zone. Either of these would mean that the strings wouldn’t get confused and the site would get created.
now in my case, assuming machine name is: ServerA, and while creating webapplication which going to host PWA site i am defining required host header assuming: epm.
provisioning my PWA using this web app and defing PWA path as "Project" because its a migrated site so i have to use the same name, and the URL i am going to get in the end would be: http://epm/project
AAM is, default zone: http://<server>:<port> and intranet zone: http://epm
is the above complying with the first option of Brian?

Issue Alert created with workflow (Prasanna Adavi posts) - Error project site creation in EPT

in PROJECT SERVER 2013, after following the Prasanna Adavi posts on "Setting up an alert for Project Site Issue (and Risk) Alerts using SharePoint
Designer Workflow" i've saved the site template.
If i create a site from the template the site creates correctly and workflow Issue Alert works fine. BUT if i add the new template in an EPT, when i create a new Project i receive error in ProjectSiteUpdate (Failedbutnot blocking) and the site failed

Thanks Adavi,
i've created the workflow in a placeholder template for test purpose and it works. I confirm you dependence from:
- App Configuration Management Service (hidden in TechNet but you receive error if is not active);
- User Profile Service and Sync Service active;
- Profile Syncronization started;
The error occurs when i create a new project with the site template created with the issue list workflow inside.
I'll wait for your test and tomorrow i'll test it in an other environment to exclude installation dependence.

PS2010: Resource synchronization fails in project site creation and when changes users at the Security Groups.

I am not using AD syncronization for resource pool and security groups in Project Server 2010.
When I publish a new Project or try to create a Project web site manually it creates the Project site, but fails to synch the resources.
If I add or change one or more resources at the Project Managers security group at PWA it also fails to synchronize the root site and existing Project web sites.
I looked at the ULS log and appears the the following error:

My Project site template is exactly the same than original Project Server site template (for test purpose) but created as Project site and then saved as template with another name.
In both cases there are a reference to "ReportServer", but I do not have either a Report Server installed in the farm or the Reporting Services Service Application.
Any ideas how can I correct this issue?

Hi Segawa,
In the above thread you are saying that there are reference to "Report Server". Save the template to local file system and extract the template. Now check the onet.xml under "Webtemplates" folder. Do you see the references of report server there.
If that is the case, my suggestion would be to recreate the template without the reference for report server and then test the behavior.
Also, you can even remove the reference in the onet.xml and use some compressing tools to rebuild the wsp file and then use that as template.

Project Server 2013 - New - Project, creates groups at the root site level, Server is in Project Server Permission mode

I created an Enterprise Project in PWA and moving up to the root site settings I see there was the four basic groups created there just for this project. This is not acceptable when there will be 500 projects on the server. Is there a setting to turn this
off. I guess we will rarely create projects with PWA, so I will see if creating a Project in Desktop has the same effect. Still would like to understand why this is happening. Thank you.
Site Provisioning settings are located under Central Administration -> Manage Service Applications -> Project Application Service -> Manage ->
Project Site Provisioning Settings
Turning that off allows the group creation to cease.
Then PWA Settings -> Operational Policies -> Connected Sharepoint Sites
allows selective creation of a Project Site (Workspace)
This set up is perfect for what I require.

I assume that you're talking about the SharePoint security groups for each Project site? If so, then this is as designed. Each site can have different users, so this is absolutely necessary when you use SharePoint. If you do not want to create project sites
for your projects automatically, you have already discovered how to turn off automatic site creation.
If you turn off the Project application service, you disable Project Server. I don't think that is what you want to do. I don't understand your objection to the groups because if you are running in Project Server classic permissions mode, Project Server
manages the group membership for you.

Project Server 2013 Project Site Permission

Hi All,
Q1: We are using project server 2013, most of the time the projects are created by the PMO coordinators and it will be assigned to the project manager. Project coordinator and Project Manager belongs to "Project Manager" group. After assigning
the project when the project manager tries to access Project Site, he is getting "why you want to access this site". When I checked project site permission only project coordinator name is added to the Owners group. Normally the project owner should
have the permission to the project site, how to fix it.
Q2: We have different enterprise project type with different site templates. When the project type is changed from one type to another, is it possible to delete and recreate the respective project sites automatically.

Q1) this is a question related to how your security is set up. If you are using Project Server Permission mode, people in Project managers groups, who have edit ability on your project will get added to the Project manager Synchronized group on the project
site upon publish. You just need to make sure your secueiry ctegories and groups are set up as such.
Alternatively, you could set the owner of the project to be the project manager once they take ownership.
Q2) This will be a manual activity. You need to disconnect the site under server settings, then delete site. Then you can create the site, which will pickup the new EPT set project site template automatically.
