Creating Proxies After Editing DNGs

I am editing a project shot RAW on a Sony FS700. I've never worked with RAW and am new to Premiere, coming over from FCP7.
I imported the footage (DNG Sequences) and I started pulling subclips, laying them in a sequence as I went. Essentially, I have a rough cut of a 3-minute promo piece in a timeline.
Obviously, being new to a RAW workflow, I didn't know I should've created proxies from the start. I am now realizing the simplest edit hangs up my computer, pinwheels Premiere, and in general is not workable.
I'd like to create proxies and replace the DNG Sequences until I'm ready for grading. I did a test export of a handful of clips from Resolve. In Premiere, I made those DNG clips offline, and tried to link it with the new proxies. When I select the correct proxy file, Premiere pinwheels and becomes unresponsive. I am able to replace footage on a single clip with my proxy file, but this would take forever given the amount of footage I have.
The bottom line is this: Can I replace all of DNG footage in Premiere with proxy files, without individually replacing footage on each clip?
System:
iMac with Mac OS 10.10
16GB RAM
2GB AMD Radeon R9 M290x
Premiere Pro CC 8.1.0
Thanks very much.

Rendered files are big files and always will be. Only render files when you require them and delete them after us as you can always render them again. Of course once you have opened into LR you have rendered the file. The best way of reducing the size of the rendered file is to save as a compressed Tiff as this retains everything in a lossless format. If you don't require layers then why open into PS anyway?

  • Huge file sizes after editing DNGs in PS

Whenever I need to make a local adjustment and I bring the raw file (DNG) into Photoshop, it saves as TIFF or PSD, which increases the file size from 20mb to around 150-200mb. Is there a better format I can save as without compressing? Cheers.

That button is not the Save As button, really, but a link to the DNG converter. To save your raw file in an image format, click the Open button instead and then save in the format of your choice in the editor. • Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?

Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?
I currently have SE via creatieve cloud - one of the only reasons we switched to CC was for the DPS SE.
Does anyone know if this capability will just be 'switched off' at midnight 1st May 2015?? There are huge costs for going the enterprise route but with no date in sight for Publish to be launched I am not sure I can wait for this, or should I???

Adobe states: Please note that the Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition, service will be available for use until May 1, 2015, but beyond that date the service will no longer be available.
So essentially my licence will expire on 1st May - Adobe's note just mentions 'service' -  even though part of CC and I will not be able to maintain my app or create any more IPA's after 1st May. I can't beleive there is nothing to switch over to other than paying thousands of pounds for enterprise??
Just all so vauge, feels like a plug is going to be pulled and thats it??? Maybe I am missing something?

  • After iOS7 install my iCal entries do not show "created by or edited by". Is there a fix?

After iOS7 install my iCal entries do not show "created by or edited by" also in Twitter I can't see number of retweets or favorites, it's become invisible. Any fixes?

Well seeing as I'm running Lion on 2 GB of RAM, I can't see how upgrading the RAM will make that much of a difference.    If you are seeing launch times in minutes, it probably indicates your cache got corrupted by some third party cache cleaning software.  To see if some corruption can be fixed, first backup your data:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
Then boot in safe mode, holding the shift key.  If issues persist in safe mode, run the hardware test that came with your Mac.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
And if that is unrevealing, and booting into safe mode doesn't solve anything, and you are backed up, try repairing the directory by:
    1. Booting into the restore partition with command-R.
    2. Selecting the installer's Utilities menu.
    3. Selecting Disk Utility
    4. Selecting First Aid
    5. Selecting the boot partition.
    6. Click on repair disk (not repair permissions)
Do NOT proceed with any install itself.  Just quit the install program
If the disk is not able to be repaired, purchase Alsoft Disk Warrior, and boot of that to repair the directory.
If it is able to be repaired, and the machine is still slow, I think you may have run into some RAM that is bad, and need to replace it, not add to it.
If Disk Warrior can't repair the hard disk, replace the hard disk itself.

  • When is my RAW file changed? Upon import? Upon viewing? Only after edit list started?

    All:
I now have a "second copy" made in a separate hard drive when I import files from my camera cards. I want an untouched file for possible comparative "developing" or rendering in DxO or PhotoNinja. Might convert everything to DNG someday.
Asking LR to do this at the top of the Import pane is I assume, creates a copy *and* makes NO changes to the RAW data.
OTOH, Lightroom will offer me the image in Camera Raw to view, create, and interpret my edit/develop decisions. But I have been thinking about this and need to ask all of you: Is that CR2 file in my dated Lightroom database folders a changed file in any way from the RAW file while it was still on the card? The decision to hold edit data in sidecar files plays a part in this, right?  External sidecar files means even after edits I can copy the CR2 file and use it in other [RAW]converter's software?
    jonathan7007

Being a "non-destructive editor", Lightroom does not (cannot) change your CR2 files....with one exception, which is when/if you choose to edit the capture time of an image, in which case the changed date is written back into the file header's EXIF field. But apart from that, it is never ever changed.....all edits are stored primarily in the catalog's database, and optionally you can have them written into XMP sidecars. Having the XMP sidecar would allow you to open the raw file in another XMP-capable Adobe program, outside Lightroom, and see the edits applied. Not sure if other non-Adobe raw converters would be able to interpret all of that XMP info.
For non-proprietary raw files (e.g. DNG, Tiff), you can also choose to save the XMP data but in this case it would be written directly into the files header, not into sidecar files. The underlying image data is still, however, unchanged.

  • Unable to edit dng metadata in 3. party software

    Dear sirs.
I am trying to use Picasa (3.9) face detection feature to update all my photos metadata.
It works fine with jpg, byt changes are not/cannot be stored in dng files.
I hope thats a bug that will be fixed asap.. (?)
I am using windows 7(64 bit), and Lightroom 4.1 64 bit (problem was also in 4.0, but as far as i remember not in 3.x but not sure)
Please get back to me about it being a bug, or a "feature". And if its a bug, when will you fix it.
By the way - i have also tried to edit metadata in Windows Explorer properties window, as well as in Windows Live Photo Gallery.
I DO have installed the Adobe dng codec for windows
    Kind regards,
    Tore

    OK Thank you David.
I will have to look into that.
BUT i dont think it should be necessary.
Isnt it a bug that the metadata cant be edited in any other software than from Adobe?
You wouldnt need a plugin then.
After editing the (jpg) pictures metadata in Picasa, i step back into lightroom --> Select all the pictures and click "Read metadata from files."
And bang - all the names etc written from Picasa is avaiable in jpg´s.
    - But nothing in .dng´s...

  • Adobe pro 8: how to make an existing secure encrptyed form unfillable after editing

    Hello,
    as the discussion topic says.
adobe pro 8: how to make an existing secure encrptyed form unfillable after editing?  Is it even possible to do in adobe pro 8?
For work there's a secure and encrptyed form.  I want to write in the form and save it so it will be unfillable / uneditable.
this form is not created by myself, and already secure and encrypted.
I am aware that in other recent adobe pro versions on how to do this, since they have a " save as a copy" function in the file menu. (adobe 8 doesnt have)
I've also tried printing as a PDF, but due to encryption of the form, that doesn't come out great.
Upgrading to a recent version of adobe pro is not an option.
I've also tried exporting as a picture files and then recombinding them to a pdf.  I dont like this method and find it time consuming.
If possible please inform me of a way to solve this problem , step by step with adobe pro 8's features.
    or
show me the equivalent method to how recent versions "save a copy" of a secure encrypted form on adobe pro 8.
Thanks in advance for reading this thread and helping.

Well after you use save a copy, and the security is disabled, you could then re enable security features and disable editing of the form.
EDIT: I just tested , with a PDF is in secure mode, even using a "save a copy" feature wouldn't work.
Would finding a program to desecure the pdf be a possible option?
Or is there a way to copy the form (with all it's editable fields) and paste it as an unsecure pdf?
You would then be able to make new security features.
thanks for replying and viewing this problem.

  • CS3 file will not open in CS3 after editing in CS6?!?

Pardon the exclamations but we're creative folks not techies. After editing a CS3 file in CS6 we are unable to open it in CS3. Looks like CS6 will only save back to CS4? So once edited in CS6 then I can no longer use CS3 to work with the files? Can anybody confirm this for me? We also tried to export to IDML but CS3 would not read it.

When you open an older version of InDesign file within a newer version and edit them, the older version of file is first converted using some required plugins of the newer version of InDesign and then a consolidated new file is generated including the required plugins. Now, if you try to open this newer version of file back in an older version, the older version of InDesign looks for the required plugins used to edit the file and fails because InDesign older version did not use those plugins to create your file.
Please let me know if that explanation helped understanding why this behavior occurs.

    Hi
I created the Sample Browse and Edit JSF JSP page oracle ADF application as explained in the cuecards in Jdev10.1.3.
After editing the department table rows in browser i am checking the database tables for the changes.
But my table are still with the old data.they are not updating with the values i changed in the browser.
i followed the steps correctly as explained in cuecards.
    where i am going wrong.
What i have to do to commit the changes in to database in my ADFApplication.Did i need anything to add my code.

In Jdev 10.1.3,there is no operations folder directly under the Application data module control.
there is only constructors, merge entity, persist entity, refresh entity, remove entity and findalldepartments(),findallemployeeas() nodes under the application data module control.
In findalldepartments, findallemplloyees the operations node is there.under that i don't have the commit .i have only create, execute, first, previous, last, next, delete, removerowwithkey, setcurrentRowWithkey, setcurrentRowWithkeyValue under the operation node.

  • After editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated

With both my Mac's, reset Photoshop C  (2014) to previous version 2014.0. Now find that after editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated. Reloaded camera raw, etc., but still find modification dates are not updated, either using Finder or using Bridge to view dates. Editing other files, PSD, DNG, TIFF, etc., are updated and the information is correctly displayed.

Ok, not entirely sure what I did but it's now working (Bizarre!). The only thing I did was 'eject' the ACR 8.6 .dmg file from the finder side bar and restart PS CC, so that may have been where I was going wrong all along!
However, I now have another issue in that there is no preview of the shot in Finder on my iMac when I highlight the NEF file. I assume this is simply because Apple haven't yet released an update for the new D810 NEF files and so the computer doesn't know what it's looking at?!?
If anyone has any other ideas though, then I'm more than willing to listen.
    Thanks again.

  • Get  a red or green display after edit

    Hey,
after I installed the new iLife09 packed an my iMac with new installed SL I get sometimes a colored display instead of the improved picture. Sometimes I edit a picture and save the change by got to the next then I go back an the display change in green or red.
Can everybody tell me what is happen? With iPhoto from iLife 06 I didn't have problems before.
    Thank you for your help.
    Volker

I am quite sure that it is an issue with the editing function itself.
It's not. It affects both iPhoto and Aperture users (and only a small number of either) so that rules it out being an issue with Editing function in iPhoto alone. It's a problem with some graphics cards and 10.6
A formerly edited picture will always show this issue because, as far as I know, after editing not the edited picture will be stored but only the change (positions of the sliders). So recalling an edited image will show the original image, affected again by the change. Proof: hit the button that showes up the editing window with the sliders (I don't know its name because I have a Dutch version) and you will see the former position of the sliders.
Again, incorrect. In iPhoto when you edit a photo an entirely new file - the edited version - is created and stored in the Library Package file in the Modified's folder. Also, the changes made - if they are made by iPhoto - are recorded in the database. Your description you have is closest to how Aperture works.
Nice improvement because now you can go on editing where you stopped before,
Sort of. If you go on editing "where you stopped before" then the edited version is destroyed and a new edited version, incorporating the sum of the changes, is created.

  • IPhoto RAW Images Compress after Editing!!

Has anyone noticed that after editing a RAW picture in iPhoto that it compresses to less than half it's size?
If I have a file that that is 11.2mb, after the edit it drops to 1.9mb.
Is this a setting I am missing?
Message was edited by: Richard Hagan

Yes, it will show a smaller size. But if you drag that thumbnail to the desktop you'll find you have a jpg file which is the results of your editing the raw file in iPhoto. What iPhoto is reporting is the file size of the jpg that will created if you need to produce an file of that edited RAW file. Until you drag it to the desktop the edit (or rather edit instructions) are kept in iPhoto's database files and iPhoto uses that information to display the edited version in iPhoto.
