Creating random playlists for massive mp3 databa

Hi. First post here. I've given up my quest to contain 00% of my music on an mp3 player. The only one on the market that will fit all of it is the "new" iPod Classic 60GB. I don't really care for the Apple marketing machine nor the $350 price tag. I already own a Zen Xtra 40GB and have been pretty happy with it. All of my music has been digitized and li'ves on an external dri've, with a mirrored backup. Is there any way to have the MediaSource or Notmad application (which I haven't seen - just read about it today) generate a random playlist of xxGB, which can then be loaded onto the Zen? I'm not talking about a playlist file that pulls from existing files on the mp3 player, but an actual block of mp3 files randomly culled from my external dri've and then transferred to the emptied Zen Xtra?

I can't answer your software question, but I do want you to know that it's possible to upgrade your Zen Xtra with a larger hard dri've.
I did it and am quite happy with the results. My player now as a 00GB hard dri've in it.

I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming. So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on. But the ipad is a different story. I have the music and artist but not one playlist I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this.
Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z. Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac. Which I do talk highly of all the time. But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not. Any ideas?

How to create a playlist for the movies I have?

Hope someone can help me here. How do you set the movies to play continuously? I can't seem to create a playlist for the movies. You can create playlist for podcast videos and musics but how do you creat playlist for the 3 movies I have got on my iphone?

Not exactly true. As absurd as it sounds, if you have just one music track in your playlist, then you can select it from the Playlists section on the iPhone and play your videos, movies etc. one after the other.
I have created a completely empty music track in Garageband which I drag onto the end of each and every video playlist I create. An ugly solution, but it works.
You have to remember to check the playlist in both the Video and Music sections in iTunes->Devices->Your iPhone.

You can certainly create a playlist since a playlist is simply a text list of a selection of tracks. Use export in the iTunes file menu. That won't include the actual music which is a bunch of files on your computer and it is probably illegal for you to share them. Or do you mean to ask how to make suggestions through the iTunes Store?

How do I create smart playlists for albums?

Hi,
I have a lot of albums and each album has their proper track listings meaning their proper track songs. I would like to create smart playlists for all my individual albums and for every individual album has a smart playlist with the proper track songs in the smart playlist for the album?
1.) Would doing this be possible?
2.) If so, how could I do this?
I forgot to mention a lot of my albums are multiple CDs, and a lot also include bonus CDs.
I don't know many tracks or CDs off the top of my head, but here are some album names as an example.
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 1
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 2
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 3
Road Trips vol. 1 no. 4
And the list goes on.

An album in iTunes is a collection of tracks that have the same Album name and the same Artist or Album Artist. Older iPods only work with Artist. The iPod has menu listtings for Artists & Albums built in, so again no need to duplicate with playlists. Any tracks you put on an iPod will, if correctly tagged, show up in their relevant album, and in the artist listing, the genre listing, any playlists that you include, etc.
For tips on organizing tracks in iTunes and on an iPod see the Grouping tracks into albums article. It needs some updated images, but the information is otherwise still relevant.

How do I create separate playlists for two ipods/one library and them sync them?

I have an older classic ipod, my daughter has an older nano. I got new laptop and have managed to sync my ipod and ipad with success, as well as move my library from old pc to new laptop. Now I am trying to update and sync my daughter's ipod. It says that it is synced but nothing changes. I believe I had set up two different libraries on the old pc, and so certain cds had been copied into her library. I can't find them in the earlier mentioned transfered library. That's not a big deal, as I can just use those cds to add them back in later (more work though). I've read older community posts on my issue, but any article links on how-to are too old, I guess. I like the idea of using just one library and creating playlists for each ipod to sync to, but cannot figure out how to do this. Also, do I need to restore my daughter's ipod to get the ball rolling? She's taken a couple of videos she likes and I'm not sure I want to lose it in the restore. Any advice greatly appreciated.

You can do it 2 different ways. The first is just creating a blank playlist and then navigate to the videos, then click and drag the videos and a menu on the right hand side will appear and choose that playlist. The other method involves enabling the side bar and the creating a blank playlist, then navigating to the videos and drag and drop the videos that you want. The article below about creating playlist will apply to videos as well.

How To Create Backup Playlist for iPod

Can someone tell me how to create a backup playlist for songs on my iPod? If I ever need to use iPod Restore, I know that the iPod will return to factory settings, and all my songs will be wiped out. I would like to create a backup playlist that will allow me to select all songs and then drag and drop them into the "wiped clean" iPod (under iTunes "Devices") after Restore is complete. I have created an iPod Playlist folder under "Playlists", but iTunes will not allow me to drag and drop music from my iPod into the new folder.

Cannot create Smart Playlist for tracks to upgrade using iTunes Match

I just subscribed to iTunes Match and am trying to use a Smart Playlist to identify the tracks that can be upgraded following the instructions in this article:

When I try to create the smart playlist, I get "This smart playlist contains one or more conditions which are empty or conflict with each other. This will result in never matching a song. Are you sure you want to save this playlist?". I've narrowed it down to the iCloud Status settings. I can create a playlist with either Matched or Purchased; however, I get the message above when specifying both. Any ideas?

You need to make sure the rule for these 2 is Match Any, not Match all.

Calendar creating random alerts for events

The last couple of weeks, iCloud Calendar and the Mac Calendar having been doing something very odd. I have my college courses laid out in my Calendar and syncing between my iPhone, Mac, and iPad. My default setting for this college calendar (and across my devices) was to alert me 15 minutes before each class started.
The last couple of weeks, however, the Calendar would alert me at my default time, but then it would alert me at the time the class was scheduled to start, and then at two random times after the class already started. The other two created alerts usually happened around 5-15 minutes after the event already started. After the second later time, the alerts would stop being created and stop appearing in my notifications. I was even able to watch these alerts being created, and if I deleted the new alert, I would have to delete it a second time before it actually disappeared. And this reminder went out across my 3 devices.
Here's what I have tried.
Changed my password on iCloud/Apple ID
I have removed the PList from Calendar app on my Mac, which changed nothing.
Repaired Permissions with Disk Utility and Onyx, also did nothing (though Disk Utility at one point did detect an error in Calendar which it said it fixed).
I went to iCloud.com and deleted the entire College calendar from the Calendar app and then manually re-added my classes. I noticed that on some the classes, it tried to create the random alerts immediately, but since I deleted those classes again and readded them and they stopped. This temporarily worked.
This last stepped worked for about a week before my college classes started doing this again. Since I applied the iCloud "fix", only some of my college classes have begun creating random alerts again, but only on my Mac and not on my iOS devices. Also, my birthdays imported from Facebook are now exhibiting this trait. No other calendars, such as my work or appointment calendars, are doing this though, and I have tested them by creating new events in said calendars. I don't want to stop using Calendar for something like this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Update: Now some of my other calendars are doing this too, like my work calendar, up to almost an hour after the actual event. I have no idea what's going on.

Itunes creating many playlists when dragging mp3's to itunes library

I have an external hard drive, and hooked it up to a new computer. Whe I dragged the mp3 collection to itunes, it created hundreds of playlists, some being albums and some being artists lists.
Is there a setting I can change to keep itunes from randomly making playlists? I've never had this problem after several years of using itunes.

The current build of iTunes (10.4.1.10) appears to have a couple of issues with M3U playlists. The first is that when you import an M3U playlist, the list is created, and any files not already in the library it are added to it, but for some reason they just don't get added to the playlist. Secondly, when adding folders to the library, iTunes is also attempting to add any M3U playlists that it finds as well as any other valid media files not already in the library. The upshot is that iTunes may create a bunch of empty playlists corresponding to any M3U files you have scattered through your folders.
Use iTunes Folder Watch to scan your media folders for new files (and also for dead tracks) to avoid the issue. This is a more effective way of importing new media than simply adding in the entire media folder over and over again.
If you already have empty playlists you are struggling to delete manually then I've written a script for just that purpose called KillEmptyPlaylists.
As and when the time comes that you do want to import an M3U playlist then I have written another script to workaround the current difficulty called ImportM3U which does just what it says. It will also convert and add any WMA files present in the list on the fly whereas iTunes would normally ignore these.

Best way to create a playlist for sharing? having some issues

So my friends and I like to exchange playlists. So I'm trying to create a compilation that when my friend drags the folder of music into his iTunes the order of songs is how I want it. I want it to import into their iTunes like a regular compilation album.
Issues this time around:
- I can't for the life of me make it so the order of the compilation imports in the right order
- One of the songs REFUSES to change info. I change the name of the album to the comp title and select "part of a compilation" it changes but then as soon I play it it changes back to it's original album title and is no longer part of my compilation
What I've done:
- Picked the tracks I wanted and dragged them into a folder on my desktop
- imported them into a playlist in a different iTunes library
- Selected all, command+I, changed the album to the compilation name, marked it as a compilation, marked it as Disc #1 of 1
- Selected each track separately and marked the Track #1 of 15, 2 of 15 and so on
is there something I should be doing differently for better results?

But, John also said we'd have to create an ADS Group to put them in, and use queries to bring those that need into the collection for installation, then remove them when the product shows in ARP. Which is about the same as adding them into the collection
and then never removing (we'd have a group with computers in it).
I had thought there was some way to automatically remove things from manual collections, but...guess not.

Create a playlist for the QT player....

Is it possible to have a playlist to upload video to a QT player? I would like to have a few video listed in one player. I would rather have a list then individual icons on a page. Here is a player that does what I would like QT to do. Does QT do this?

If you are inclined to fiddle around with HTML, or learn simple SMIL scripting, you most certainly can create a set playlist that QuickTime will play. You can do this at least 2 different ways.
1. HTML scripting, using the 'QTNEXT' parameter
2. SMIL scripting, saving the SMIL text as a QuickTime movie, embed that movie on your webpage (and uploading all of the playlist content to the same server directory).
There are excellent tutorials about these techniques available on the Apple website - search for "Quicktime HTML Scripting" and "QuickTime SMIL scripting".
I would also venture to guess that there are shareware applications out there that make the process a lot less technical. I'd start with a Google search on 'Mac shareware Quicktime'

Is there a way I can create a playlist for my TV Shows purchased from iTunes?

Recently upgraded to IOS7 and my video app has changed. I use the ipad in the car for my daughter and play a series of pepper pig continuously. However, with the new upgrade the option to play all epps in folder is not there anymore, it only allows you to play each eppisode indiviuadly and thats it.
Can anybody please tell me if they've manage to play all TV Show downloads from Apple in a playlist? Its impossible to use the ipad in the car now as I would have to pull over every 5 minutes.
