Creating rules like Outlook in Mail running in Lion

Hi,
I am on Mac OS X Lion and have configured the new "Mail". I use Outlook in office and find the rules that we can create in Outlook very handy. So was wondering if the same could be achieved in "Mail". The basic requirement is to guide emails from specific email ids into specific folders just to get that neat look for the inbox. Pointers will be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. Now i can create rules but the followup question is how do I get them applied as soon as they are created. Although I say "Apply" once the rule is created, it does not seem to pull anything into the desired folder and just doesn't seem to get applied .

  • Mail running under LIon no longer grays out the name of the sender of an email that has been read.  How can I get that to happen?

Under the old version of Mail, when an e-mail was read, the name of the sender was greted out so that I knew I had read that email.  This does not seem to happen under the new Mail thaqt came with Lion.  Help!?

    Kirk,
Thanks again for your suggestions. No, I don't get an
error message. In fact nothing happens. My name and
key are typed in and from what I understand, once you
do that with a real key it directs you to the
registration page. When I get done entering the
information the window just sits there without any
    button or option to continue.
QT Pro is already in the QT (non-pro) you installed and the key (which is a hash of your name in part) allows the Pro features to work.
No redirect, internet, nothing like that. As such many people have activated and think they haven't. Just look at the menu items and see if the "Pro" logo is shown next to a few (which are greyed out and not available without Pro). If not you are done.

  • Creating rules for Mail - yet visible on iPhone

I fully understand how to create rules for email so that when receiving them, they automatically go into folders.  The problem is, if I receive an email that automatically gets sorted into a folder, I can not tell on my iPhone I have actually received a new email.
However, I need to know how to have rules to automatically sort/file emails into a folder, but still know I have received a new email on my iPhone mail.
    Anyone got ideas?
    Thanks

I can understand not wanting to put out money to gain a feature that you think should be standard.
Here is a link to some Applescripts that I had downloaded in the past. I actually forgot about these. There is a script which will allow you to apply some rules to outgoing messages, but the author of the scripts notes that it is not a perfect solution. Maybe it can help.
If all else fails, maybe you can use smart folders as a sort of go between. Instead of scanning through the sent mail folder and hand picking individual messages to drag to folders, why not set up a smart folder to aggregate all like mail. Then you could just drag the messages from a smart folder to a regular one. It might help speed things up.
I am just about out of ideas. I hope you can come up with a good solution.

  • Is there any way to pass Mail.app rules to Outlook?

Hello, I want to use the same rules i use in Mail app from OS X in Outlook. Can you help me find the way to do it, because I have tons of rules and don't want to copy them one by one.

How much fuss is too much?
You can easily change your home directory to the other drive. That would certainly take care of it. Copy your home directory to the other volume. Then, in System Preferences > Users & Accounts, select your account, right/command click and choose Advanced. Change your home directory. Log out and back in.
You could also try to hack around with symbolic links, but that is more fuss.

New folder where? If you added the account in Mail app it should of created the folders to store that email automatically.

    Hi ,
There is an option of embedding index for faster search while converting email to a PDF .
However I am not sure that will serve your purpose or not .
I would recommend you to get in touch with Microsoft support as well .
Meanwhile I'll work on it and get back to you in case I get a desired solution .

  • [Question] New Button from Toolbar which creates a new Outlook Mail?

    Hello together,
I am faced with an issue by using a button from the toolbar in order to create a new outlook mail.
Do you know the functionality from html?
    href="mailto:email@email?subject=CRM%20Feedback&body=Bereich%20(z.B.%20Opportunity%....
This coding will create a new outlook mail an fills it with information when the user click this link. It is also possible to implement it via a button.
Now, I want to implement these function in my component, escpecially in the toolbar.
I have created a new button, but how can I provide it? Is there a possibility at all?
    Thanks!

Just define the following coding for your button...
        ls_button-text     = 'Outlook mail'.
        ls_button-tooltip = 'Outlook mail'.
        ls_button-on_client_click = 'javascript:window.open ("mailto:email@email?subject=CRM","mywindow1","width=100,height=100,scrollbars=no,menubar=no");'.
        ls_button-page_id  = me->component_id.
        ls_button-enabled  = abap_true.
        APPEND ls_button TO rt_buttons.
        CLEAR ls_button.

Open Apple Mail, and open Preferences (under Mail in the Menu Bar).  On the General tab, check the "Default Email Reader" and set it to Mail (6.6).

Curios text in one of three computers when displaying the very same mail in outlook.
I run Outlook 2003 under Windows 8.1.1 in all of my 3 computers. 70% of the mail from the same sender are shown OK in the actual computer and 100% of the very same mail are shown OK in the two other computers. If I forwards an OK received
mail from one of the “100%”, it will be received OK in the “70%” as well. For me the wrong displayed mail shows up as some kind of vector-descriptors (non converted html?). All links in blue are displayed ok and most of the text is readable in an unformatted
way. When it comes to logos etc it’s not readable at all. What to do?

Hi, I have iphone 4s. I created a new @me icloud account. I would like my normal mails to be saved on my icloud. How do i go about?

I'm not sure I understand your question really, but one thing for sure is that you need Lion for iCloud to work.

  • I would like to leave my iMac on Snow Leapord to use Power PC software, and run Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro. I am getting an iPhone 5. Is there a way to use mail on all of them?

I would like to leave my iMac on Snow Leapord to use Power PC software, and run Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro. I am getting an iPhone 5. Is there a way to use mail on all of them with the same accounts?

Any IMAP e-mail account can be accessed from all devices just fine. You don't need to upgrade from Snow Leopard to be able to access an IMAP e-mail account. However, Snow Leopard won't have built-in support for iCloud. As mende1 points out, you can still read your iCloud e-mail from Snow Leopard, but you have to set it up manually. You won't be able to do things like sync your iCloud calendar or addresses with iCal or Address Book on the iMac, though.

  • Is it possible to create rules in Mail outside of Preferences?

Having used Mail/Preferences/Rules as the route to create new rules for messages in Mail, I have often thought that there may well be a simpler method which I have not yet discovered, to create new rules (as opposed to applying them) by highlighting the message in the inbox (or whichever mailbox you happen to be using) and creating the rule directly without having to mess around going through the Prefs routine. Anybody found a shortcut?

Thanks for your helpful suggestion andyBall_uk.
I've had a quick look at the second link you included (
http://www.andreasamann.com/MacOSX/Mail_Scripts)but the developer seems to have stopped updated the scripts since Mountain Lion, so I probably won't tangle with one of those as I use 10.8.3.
However I'm going to trial MailActOn and see how I get on. I'll update once I have had a play.
Thanks again - always grateful for constructive replies.

  • Creating Rule/Script to emulate Mailbox App in Apple Mail

I'm using Mailbox for iPhone and I love the "snooze" feature: it allows you to snooze a message in the inbox sending it to a "Later" folder and bringing it back to the inbox later (tomorrow, this weekend, next week, etc., you choose).
I'd love to do the same in Apple Mail with flags. If I mark a message with a red flag, I want it to be moved to a "Later" folder, and I want it back to the Inbox 24 hours later. If I do it with green flag, 2 days later, purple 3, etc...
    Any way to do this?

    goldfilm wrote:
Thanks so much for your offer, but what I need is very different: an action when a flag is a condition, and flags are not part of conditions in Mail.
I believe that's because Mail Rules work on incoming mail and flags are set on the local machine. You can send an email with a priority (i.e. high), but not a flag
I want to manually flag a message in the Inbox and Mail automatically moving the message to a folder after I flag it. If that happens I'm happy
Applescript can do this, but not automatically, you could set up this rule, then manually Apply Rules (⌥⌘L)
    Rule:
    Applescript:
    tell application "Mail"
repeat with theMessage in (every message of inbox)
if flagged status of theMessage is true then
set mailbox of theMessage to (mailbox "Main")
                        end if
              end repeat
    end tell
The Applescript MUST be placed in: ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.apple.mail/
....although ideally I want the message back to the Inbox after a period of time.
Not sure if that can be done.  Maybe with  launchd and osascript

They are Safari bookmarks and Snow Leopard Safari will open in Mountain Lion, but won't give you a window?????

Advance warning - Mail worked fine.
I had fits with the last link I posted. At first it worked fine, then all of a sudden, it quit working. I now have iCloud - iCal syncing, but iCal is read only. Not a real big deal since you can log onto iCloud using Safari and post a new event.
I finally gave up on Address Book because it kept creating multiple contacts, which if you tried to merge or delete the multiple contacts, the contacts were deleted. It also worked at first and then stopped working as it should.
