Creating slideshow/gallery in catalyst

I am a designer (non-web) and I really want to utilize catalyst for a portfolio site.
I was wondering if there was an easy way to create a "proffesional" looking gallery of portfolio images.
I am somewhat familiar with catalyst, just stuck on this one.
I would appreciate any help. thanks!

Maybe these blog post of mine might help: http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/creating-lightbox-galleries-with-flash-catal yst/ and http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2010/09/25/using-custom-components-in-flash-catalyst/

  • How to create a gallery in Catalyst beta 2?

    Hi there,
I'm using the latest build of Catalyst and I'm trying to create a simple inventory data list for cars.
Basically right now I have a simple data list like this:
So you can see I have three buttons (asian, domestic, euro) to link to each page which shows a list of the cars from different makes
and I basically want to be able to click each thumbnail in the list, and it'll display the rest of the pictures of the cars.
Each car has 6 pictures from different angles, so how would I go about implementing something like this so it's easy to manage all the data if I have to change the inventory every 2 weeks or so?
    Thanks!
    - Matt

    Thanks for the breakdown Ty!
If I want to go more advanced, say bring in a working system of streamlining the upload process, I assume I'd have to work with flash builder to achieve that right?
Basically the inventory is something that needs to be updated weekly or bi-weekly, which consists of 6 pictures per car, usually each update would require me to upload 100-200 photos, then add the info/options to each car.
Is there a way to work with the layout so I can pretty much drag and drop and make some minor adjustments to make it work simplier?
I was thinking of having each picture or row in the data list be given an ID or something and it reads dynamically from a database?
maybe like Row 1 thumbnail will be like 1.jpg and then the 5 other pics would be in sequence, or whatever, so I just need to batch edit/name the pictures according...
    Is such a feat possible?
Please keep in mind I have no coding experience, but I hope I can pickup some skills along the way
    Help is greatly appreciated!
edit: Actually I saw a tutorial online where someone made different component/packages, can I do the same and make like a functioning gallery script? So basically when they click on a row, it goes to another state which has the gallery package placed on the page and it allows the user to go forward and back between the 6 photos...

You may use slideshow widgets to achieve this. For more details : Adobe Muse Help | Working with Slideshow widgets

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

Why can't I create a gallery in iPhoto in the normal way who in the past? If I sent the gallery to another the pictures now will be deleted!

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • IPad Air - photo auto created in gallery issue

    Hi everyone!
Not sure if anyone found this issue before, the identical photo has been auto created in gallery (iPad Air 7.1.1) many times. I never took the photo myself. it just looks like it came from the internet but I never saved. I wonder if this is a bug and how should i do to solve the issue.  Many thanks in advance !!

It also takes time for the photos to be transferred out of your iPhone and into Photo stream on Apple's iCloud servers.
Note that this can't happen if your iPhone is not connected to a WiFi network:
When you enable My Photo Stream on your devices, all new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your photo stream.
iOS devices: New photos you take are automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections.
Macs: Any new photos you import to iPhoto or Aperture begin uploading automatically when you have a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. Or you can change your iPhoto or Aperture preferences so that only photos you manually add to My Photo Stream are uploaded.
PC with iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later: Open a Windows Explorer window and under Favorites select iCloud Photos if you are using iCloud Control Panel 3.0 (or Photo Stream if you are using 2.0 to 2.1.2). Open My Photo Stream. Click the "Add photos" button. Select the photos to import to My Photo Stream, then click Open.

  • How to create a gallery website

What would be the best way to create a gallery site for a
photographer who has many (dozens) of images (9 main
categories, multiple categories within these 9 categories)?
She wants a site that looks slick and professional, but also to be
able to easily modify it herself.
She does have Dreamweaver, and we talked about doing an html
based site, where she can change and add images in Dreamweaver.
However, I'm wondering if we can make it look slick enough in html
    format?
We decided not to do a flash based site because it would be
hard for her to modify, and expensive to do the whole
interface in flash, since it would take too much programming
time, and the search engines wouldn't see it. (Plus, I haven't
had time to really learn flash yet.)
    My questions are:
    1. Are there online gallery programs (free, no monthly fees)
that you like, and that can be easily customized to look slick?
    2. Do you know of any gallery type websites that look
professional and elegant, either in html or in one of the gallery
programs, that we can look at ?
    3. What would you recommend for this situation? I've been
stuck on this for about a week.
Thank you in advance for any insight or suggestions!

    Free? Sheesh....
I would recommend ImageGalleryMagic - worth every DIME and
    not so
    expensive....

  • Slideshow gallery - images come in cropped

My images keep coming in cropped when I import them into a slideshow gallery. How can I avoid this?

Even when I edited the mask by using the "edit mask" slider, I wasn't able to get the entire image into view. These images were coming in from Illustrator, with transparent backgrounds. When I added a plain white box behind each image, I was able to pull the entire image in without the cropping effect. Still, I'd like to be able to get images into the widget without having to do this extra step!

  • Cannot create slideshow in Premiere Elements 8

I just installed and am trying to use Premiere Elements 8. I have been racking my brain for the last two hours trying to figure out how to create a slide show.  I do not have a create button anywhere.  I jumped from Elements 1.0 to 8.  I am ready to return 8 and go back to 1 if I cannot figure this out.
Where do I find the slideshow dialog box?
    Can someone please help?????
    Thanks.

Oh come on, Eric! You're not really going to return the program just because you couldn't figure out how to use it, are you?
I"m just teasing you. The program can be a bit intimidating at first. That's why I spend most of my day showing people how to use it.
Actually, there are at least four ways to build a slideshow in Premiere Elements. I show you how to do them all in my book, "The Muvipix.com Guide to Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 8," if you're interested. It's available on Amazon.com and from the Muvipix store.
I don know specifically what kind of slideshow you're trying to create, so I can't give you specific instructions.
But first, before you bring any photos into Premiere Elements, be sure to resize them to 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs to the right of this forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/431851?tstart=0
Then use Get Media/From Files and Folders to get the photos into your Project panel (also under the Organize tab.)
Once you've got all of your photos gathered in your Project media panel, select them all and right-click -- and select Create Slideshow.
As I say, there are a number of other ways to do it, but this is the easiest. There is also an option for creating a slideshow in Themes and there's a slideshow creator built into the Organizer.
But that should get you started.
Meantime, why not check out my free Basic Training with Premiere Elements tutorials on the Muvipix site?

  • Create a gallery of images

Hello, I need to create a gallery of images. I have a jspx that contains a form search and underneath it has a table with all the result and their miniature in one of the columns. I need to be able to generate a gallery of images to show to the turn out of the search and power to change of page. is some component that helps me? How I can do it?
    Thanks

An "QListView" with a model that returns the image as "QPixmap" for "Qt::DecorationRole".  Alternatively a "QListWidget" with items that have the image set as "QPixmap" for "Qt::DecorationRole" (by using "QListWidgetItem::setData()")

  • Creating web gallery

i'm attempting to create a web gallery on my new mac book pro lap top (4 gigs ram, running 10.5.2). I go to "automate", create the gallery using the templates (and I've tried them all), hit "OK" and I continually get a error window saying "the application photoshop quit unexpectedly". i am using cs2. i have been able to complete this task on my desk top using cs2, without any problem and it is an older machine. I have tried other automated functions, such as "contact sheet" and it works fine.
    Thank you.

Which is why Adobe does NOT support CS2 under Leopard. :/
