Creating slideshow - importing images in numerical order

I am creating my first slideshow in iDVD '06. I want the images to appear in numerical order as they do in their original folder. When I drag multiple images over from a folder, they appear in random order. Is it possible to maintain the numerical order?

Mandy - if you want a quick slideshow, why not do it in iPhoto where you can quickly arrange the photos how you want? You can then Share/Export to Quicktime and bring it in to iDVD (my preference) or use the iDVD option within iPhoto to transfer the slideshow.

  • How to import images in alphabetical order???

How may I import images in alphabetical order? I have a stack of images that I have renamed so that they are in alphabetical order. However, when I import these ~100 images into iPhoto, it sorts them in some other order (perhaps, although I am not sure, by time taken). If iPhoto does not allow one to import alphabetically (although I sure hope it does, since this would be very convenient), any ideas how I may modify the image taken time so that I can get this set imported in the order that I need?
    Thank you very much!

What print service are you using? Is it an online print service? Or an iPhoto plug-in? To upload to a website you should export the photos (a Desktop folder is convenient) and choose the exports for the upload.
If you are using the Finder to see a list of files, the Finder always lists them in alpha-numeric order. To get a list of photos to export to your Desktop (for uploading) and preserve your order, try this: create an Album, sort them the way you want, then Export to a Desktop folder. In the Export dialog, choose "use Album name" as the filename option. This will preserve your order upon export and name the files "Album name - 01.jpg, Album name - 02.jpg, ..., Album name - 99.jpg." It only works with 99 or fewer photos in the album, so for more photos create another album.

  • Putting Images in Numerical Order

I am trying to create a slideshow from my Aperture library and the images in iDVD to not appear in numerical order--they seem to be random. I put the images in numerical order in Aperture, but nothing helps. Its like iDVD randomly sorts these.
I have almost 200 images and need them in numerical order (so my vacation doesn't seem random!) and putting them in order is worse than a 1000 piece puzzle!

I've been using that naming convention since learning it from an old boss years ago. It's always worked for me. Glad it solved your problem.

  • How do I arrange images by numerical order

    Hi Forum,
How do I arrange images by numerical order or alphabetical order?
Somehow my images in a Project got scrambled and they appear to be in some random order. I'd like to re-arrange them back to the original order which was in numerical sequence.
    I'm using Aperture 3.1.2.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Sort options for the Browswer are available via the drop-down at the upper left of the Browser pane.  Additionally, you can sort on any metadata you can add to List View.  There are seven Metadata Overlays, including one for List View.  Recommend customizing List View Metadata Overlay to show every field available.  In List View, click a column heading to sort (and again to reverse the order).  Once sorted this way, the column header will show as a selection in the Browser sort drop-down.

  • Bridge not showing images in numerical order

I'm in Bridge CS3 .  Out of a folder full of 108 images all are in numerical order except for 6 that are out of sequence.  I double and triple checked that my filenames were all uniform except for the numbers.  What's going on here, can someone shed some light?  I'm attaching a screen capture showing items 002 - 007 out of sequence.

According to your screenshot the filter panel shows sort by Date created. If
you change this (click on the name or the little triangles to show the
submenu with this option) to sort by filename (you can choose between
ascending and descending with the other arrow) it will show the correct
order. There are also more sort orders to choose from

  • How do I import images in iPhoto in order of selection?

I have a large selection of images that I want in a specific order. When I select the images that I want in a specific order and then upload them into iPhoto they seem to import in a completely random order. Is there a way to import images in the order of selection? Thank you!

Import oreder is not a parameter that you can use in iPhoto - by default photos are displayed in time/date order within events and events oreder is controled by the View menu ==> Sort events command

  • Is there a way to import pictures into LR in original numerical order? .

I am new to LR. Imported few hundreds of pictures taken by two different cameras and stored in numerical order in a folder. LR4 rearranged them in some mysterious order that makes no sense to me. I tried to re-sort them in numerical order, but there is no such option under the Sort menu. Only by categories for which I have no use for. Does anybody know how to restore the order of imported pictures in numerical order? Not manually, there are too many and there will be a lot more to come.

Thanks for advice. It sounds good as you wrote it, but it does not work. I mean the part to find out where the connection was lost and restore it. Items remain grayed out and that is it. How do you restore the connection? Is there some secret DOS command, specifically invented by Adobe so that it cannot be intuitively used from the drop down menu by anyone without completed advanced learning course? I tried to re-import instead, but all pictures in folder are greyed out and import button is greyed out, too.
After more and more pictures from different folders were losing connections as I tried different things to restore it, I reinstalled the LR hoping that everything, including references to imported pics will be gone. It did not happen. Other importing editors before uninstalling ask if you want to keep pics references in case you change your mind. Adobe does not offer such choice. I made another unwarranted assumption that everything will be wiped out. It was not. But after reading advices like yours, I tried uninstall from inside the LR. That worked. After that I would not try to import the set for editing again. LR acts quite aggressively when importing. It would import not only the folder which I ask, but everything it can find on any connected device. Awful.
Luckily, the copy of LR 4.4 on my laptop with Win8.1 still recognized the folder and I was able to finish off the editing job. Well, Adobe had yet another surprise for me. When I “exported” the entire collection to JPEG using, just in case, two different Export commands, because there is no one simple “batch convert to JPEG, TIFF or whatever” command available, I found out that there were no edits included with any converted pictures.  After two weeks and dozens of wasted hours I was exactly where I started. So I gave up and now I am half way through the folder again, for about the fifth time, but this time with the simple, straightforward DPP. I may not be getting results like with LR, especially with high/ low tones, but at least I know I am getting something rather than nothing.

  • Recently imported images not displayed automatically

When I import images from a card reader the Organizer no longer automatically shows the recently imported images.  In order to view them I must do Find on Untagged items.  I thought I was selecting to turn off  the dialog box asking whether I want recently imported image to be automtaically shown but I must have selected that the images themselves not be shown.  How do I restore so that recently imported images are shown so I may easily tag them.  I am using PSE 8.

Do you have Show All files checked in Edit->Visibillity menu. Also please check if you have View->Media Type checked for all the media types

  • Would it be fair to expect that importing images would also create folders based on the international date std???

I am very fond of the light and easy to use PhotoShop Elements.
I am situated in Denmark and would expect an image import to allow the creation of folders based on the international date standard (yyyy mm  dd).
This "feature" would allow image folders to be created as follows:
    2014 05 06 (6. May 2014)
    2014 05 07 (7. May 2014) and so forth
When using the US date format folders are created 2014 06 05 and 2014 07 05 which doesn't make sense if folders should be viewed in a logical order.
It seems that the international date standard has been removed from PhotoShop Elements some where arround version 9-10 and it does create some rather annoying problems for me.
Am I really the the only one to experience this problem?
Since I cant figure out how to setup the organizer by using preferences, then how can I have the folders created automatically in the "normal" numeric/date order ?
    Sincerely
    Henrik

    Thx for the prompt repåly.
Yes, you are quite right. PSE 12 is the thing.
I checked the import settings under preferences, but still the same problem with the date format.
But I did find though, that  the APD Dialog Advanced allows me to actually automatically create the folders as wanted.
So for now it seems to be solved, only not through PSE Preferences, but via the APD Dialog.
    Cheers,
    Henrik

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

  • Preserving numerical order of imported photos

I am working on a project consisting of still photographs imported into FCP. the photos are in .psd format, and are named/numbered sequentially, such as this:
    DSCN0001, DSCN0002...etc.
sometimes the numbers might not begin at 0001, but they are always in ascending numerical order.
I have discovered that sometimes their order, after placed into the time line is out of numerical sequence, which is a problem bcs thousands of photos will be involved in this beast. tweezing thousands of images into correct order would be...not good..
Is there a non-manual way for me to correct the photos' order after they've been place and/or ensure they they remain in correct numerical order even before I do the importing?
    thank you!
    r

If you sort them by name in the Browser, they should go in the order that they appear there. but numbers are tricky sometimes. If they absolutely ascend I think it should work OK.
You can also view by icons, and place them in order. left to right, then next row down - left to right etc.

I am experiencing Mavericks failing to copy subdirectories from usb sticks, I am backing up game saves from a console. Both sticks I use are fine, same permissions of course since the console wrote the files. Sometimes it copies, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be related to the mounting process.

  • What are the different options for creating a basic image slideshow in Dreamweaver 5?

Hi, I have created slideshows in Bridge, and they all work fine. They aren't exactly what I had in mind, but this was the only solution I could find that I could understand. My knowledge of web design is minimal at the most. I have attached the slideshows to my html website using IFrames, but it doesn't load properly in Safari.
I included the code at the bottom of this post.
The code dealing with the slideshow and IFrame in question are towards the bottom of the document, I marked them in bold. All the styles with regards to the <div> locations and such are on a separate stylesheet, I'm not sure if you would need that to help out.
I'm wondering if someone could clue me in as to what I can do with this code to make this slideshow work properly in safari. I checked in Chrome and it loads properly. Unsure about other browsers, I do not have access currently.
I am also wondering if there is another way I can create a slideshow using CSS5. This slide show is fine, but I was also looking to include text--image names and descriptions--without having to edit each image in Photoshop to include the text.
Thank you for your time, any help would be appreciated.

  • After 10000 images, Aperture begins to importing new images out of order

    Hi All,
I'm at about 13,000 images and from time to time I noticed that whenever I imported images after 10,000...Aperture at that point had begun the numbering sequence over again, some of the images would wind up next to its identically numbered image say from a year ago. In other words, Aperture is sorting by image number instead of by date even though I've selected date.
Now it is happening all the time and all the new images (after 10,000) are finding their home somewhere within the catalog of images instead of at the very end.
I thought I was going to be able to resolve the issue quickly by selecting the 'sort by image date' but that does not fix it. I've tried sorting the dates in an ascending and descending order but nothing I try fixes the sequence. I desperately need to get my images back into chronological order. Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Tyler

    orehek -
Are you renaming the images on import? and if so, which preset are you using? Aperture doesn't have its own naming system otherwise. It uses the file names as the version name.
Also, as another poster asked, which view are you using to view them all at once? All Photos? You can't have more than 10K versions in a single project I believe but I don't see how that could contribute to the weirdness you are seeing.
As for why sort by date doesn't work, that makes no sense. Unless what you actually have is correct, ie, you have duplicate images in your library, that rightly have the same date and name, so the sorts reflect that. Or you have made new versions from your existing images - those would also sort like that. Can you give us some more details/examples?
