Creating space on SSD on my Mac Book Pro 10.9.5

Running out of space on  MBP  2.7 GHZ intel core i7  16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Available: 100.100.01 GB (100,007,829,504 bytes)
Capacity: 499.499.42 GB (499,418,034,176 bytes)  Tried to delete photos that on reading in other forums should be stored off the MBR as it is a working platform only but instead of creating more room on the SSD it ends of with less space available still.  Emptying trash seems to work in reverse.  What do I need to do next please ? as  I am down to 50 Gbs and I'm sure this affecting performance.  Some very strange things happening in the MBR system. As I am 3000 ams away from the nearest Apple techs any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ran GP, but it would only allow a scan of applications.
When you open GP, if you search for the HDD icon (Macintosh HD) and click on it, it will do a full scan of the HDD.
ODS swept the whole SSD with a total of 265  compared with 105 available on Disk Utility
I do not quite understand what you mean here.  Total of 265 what?
Should I be "securing trash" to regain space ?
No, that should make no difference.
Perform a Spotlight reindex.  See if that readjusts the numbers:

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|Previous Sh' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • How to put ssd in a mac book pro 13''

How do i have to put a ssd inside of my mac to make it run faster

Go to the OWC website which offers several SSD options, buy it and then look in your users manual for the installation instructions.  OWC also has videos showing how it is done which you might find useful.  You will need a 00 Phillips and a #6 Torx drivers to perform the installation.

  • Can I install a SATA SSD on my Mac Book Pro mid 2010 Model 7,1? OWC recommends a SATA 2 SSD to get get 3Gb/s transfer rate.

I have a mid 2010 MBP Model 7,1 and I would like to swap out the HDD for a SSD.  I was looking at replacing it with a Samsung EVO 840 (500Gb) SATA 3 SSD with 6Gb/s transfer rate.  But OWC recommends a SATA 2 with 3Gb/s transfer rate.  OWC recommends the SATA 2 because  my system will allow 3GB/s whereas with the SATA3 it will restrict it to 1Gb/s.

I was looking at the Corsair website and found a couple rams they
recommend. They both use 1.35V which I believe is the same voltage as my
current 2x2G Ram.  I have a local computer parts vendor that carries the
Corsair Rams for my MBP 13" but the voltage is listed at 1.5V.  Would they
still be compatible with my system?

  • Build in a crucial M500 SSD into a Mac Book Pro 2013 - now it crashes

    Hi guys,
first of all greetings from Germany, I hope you can understand my horrible english
Today I bought a Macbook Pro together with a Crucial M500 SSD harddisk.
With the standard HD the Macbook runs perfect.
But when I start it with the new SSD theres a error displayed as attached.
I did Snow Leopard into the superdrive while first start with the SSD.
Could you please tell me what is the reason for that and what can I do?
    Many thanks,
    Jo

If you tried to install Snow Leopard on a new machine, that's your problem, not the SSD. SL isn't going to run on a new machine, at least easily. You'd be better served by copying the old drive to the new one with Carbon Copy Cloner and an external enclosure.

  • Solid State Drive (SSD) on Recent Mac Book Pro

I bought a non-retina 15 inch MacBook Pro in late August / early September, with a 1 TB hard drive. Originally my intent was for the largest hard drive so I could keep my itunes music libarary (Approximatley 60 GB) on there. I've only used about 115 GB (xcode and a few macstore apps, and a lot of ios apps).
Recently, I've been getting paranoid about hard drive crashes due to it being a traditional drive rather than a Solid State Drive (SSD), (Thank you very much Phil Schiller), because I expect my storage level to stay at its existing level for sometime, I was considering swapping it out my existing 1 TB for a SSD. I'm assuming this can be done on a MBP, right?
Is it even worth the effort, or am I needlessly worrying?
Like I said, I bought it in late August / early September at the earliest, so the warranty is still in effect. I'm assuming swapping the drives would void the warranty. What if I took it into an apple store, and had them do the swap? Would it still void the warranty, or would it remain in effect.
    Any thoughts?
Anybody from Apple or AppleCare have any thoughts or insight?
    -Jeff

Apologies. I probably should have checked the link I sent you. I narrowed it down to 3 choices (Direct links below)
    http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT512M4SSD2
    http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT512M4SSD2BAA
    http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT512M4SSD2CCA
I didn't see anything about a transfer kit (or external drive dock) from your original post, or anything 3.5 inch adapter bracket. So your last post helps clarify things.
I'm assuming because I don't have an external drive dock, I should just go with the transfer kit, RIght?
At this point, due to the level of complexity, I'm thinking it may be easier to just take it in to the apple store and have them do it.
Do you know if they do this?
I'm sure if they do, they charge a premium, but even if its only $100 + cost of the drive, it would be worth it, not to have to deal with it myself.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Can,t create new events in ical on Mac book Pro.

This morning when I try to add a new event a pop up appears "This calendar was created by Mail. You can’t add events to a Mail calendar. Mail calendars only contain to do items created in Mail." Ical worked fine yesterday. I have a mobile me acc and can edit the online calendar but not the one on my laptop.
    Thanks

Called Apple fast track support and problem is resolved. User error, for some reason I had selected the wrong calendar - after selecting the proper calendar on the left sidebar I could create events. Apparently at some time I created a 'todo' mailbox. It had nothing in it and I ended up deleting it so it doesn't get selected again in error.
Took 15 minutes to connect with an ICAL specialist. Once connected received excellent support.

  • How to open a zip file of photos on Mac Book Pro when it cannot find or fix alias

I do a home photo editing business.  One of a my clients sent me a disc that she zipped to compress because there were a lot of pictures on it.  When I try to open it on my Mac Book Pro I keep getting an error message that it cannot find alias and what program do I want to use to open it.  It also gives me an option to "fix alias" but it doesn't seem to work.  What am I doing wrong?  Why can't I open zip files on my Mac Book Pro?  I should probably mention that the client also uses a Mac Book Pro and her pictures were in her iPhoto before she zipped them on a disc.
    Thanks for your help!!!

I did copy it to my desktop, but it still won't let me open it.  I think the file on the disc might be corrupt or something like that though the cd itself checks out fine as far as viruses go.  I was able to verify the disc, but that's about it.  My husband tried it on his iMac and we have the same issue.  It's unzipping the folder, but won't let us open the folder on both the Mac Book Pro or the iMac by double clicking, going to file/open or right clicking.  It just keeps saying the same message as I posted above.  I think I'm just going to have the client put the pictures on either a memory card or a USB memory stick so she won't have to compress the files for zipping purposes.  It's been too frustrating trying to open this folder on this cd she gave me.  She said she created/zipped the cd on her Mac Book Pro but it sure won't open on mine.

  • Bluetooth connection between Mac book pro and IPad

    Hello,
i am having trouble creating a Bluetooth connection between a Mac book pro running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and a IPad air 2 iOS 8.1.2.
I have managed to pair the devices but when I try to create a connection to transfer data an error message on the Mac comes up saying "Bluetooth network unavailable, make sure device is on, in range and set up properly", similarly if a connection is tried from the iPad an error message comes up saying "make sure the device is on".
Both devices Bluetooth is on and discoverable and i have managed to pair them but can't create a actual connection!
    Any help / ideas appreciated?
    Best regards

Bluetooth paring for file transfer is not supported on iPads.
You can use Airdrop if both devices support it, or a 3rd party App, but you cannot directly pair an iPad to a Macbook and transfer a file over the bluetooth connection.

  • How can I delete files from My Mac Book Pro safely to create more space?

    Hi,
I need to delete files from my Mac Book Pro and I am not sure how to do it safely without affecting my computers drivers or operations.
In my Finder - All Files Section there are certain files in the Preview, marked as "PNG Image", Window Image, GIF image, XLM. when I look at them they seem scripted or sections of an image. How do I know which files are safe to remove
I seem to find a lot of duplicated files - is there a way of stopping this from happening?
Thanks from a little frustrated Mac Book user.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Transfer them to an external disk formatted in "MS-DOS (FAT)" with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
If you have the pictures in iPhoto, choose them with the Command key, go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export, and copy them to the external disk. Then, connect your external disk to the PC and move them.
If you have the pictures in Finder, steps are the same, but in this case, you will have to drag the pictures you chose to the external disk that you can find in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices"

  • Greetings world.I have created a dmg. of my entire iomega ext HDD via disk utility using a mac book pro. It is currently sitting on the desktop. I have erased the iomega and now I can not understand how to put the dmg back.

It is safe to say that i need help..................
let me start at the beginning.
I have 1 2008 imac. always a pleasure never been a problem. Attached to it i have an iomega 500gb ext drive. also been ok.
    until now!!
The HDD would not mount. Disk utility suggested that it was ok so i tested the imac HD. I got error code 4MOT/2/40000004: HDD- 1502. This doesnt worry me at the moment.
I attached iomega to my Mac book pro and again it would not mount. The disk utility did tell me that the iomega needed repair. it advised that i should wipe it and restore.
So I used the MB Pro disk utility to create a DMG. and saved it to the desk top. I then erased the iomega. did a repair and it all seemed ok. So then i try to do a restore.
After a very long time it said internal error with the dmg. using disk utility i did a convert dmg (compressed) and saved it to the iomega. middle of the night job!!
got up this morning and indeed it had sent the DMG to the iomega. But i could not open it. The iomega itself seemed dandy asking me if i wanted to use it as a time machine etc and it mounted ok and i saved a small jpeg to the iomega as well. I then thought that maybe when i did the convert as a compressed file i made a mistake. i'm guessing it should be a read and write so i started all over again.......... wiped iomega (which was quite quick) then tried the convert tool again.....it trys for a while then says there is not enough disk space...........I'm not sure which disk it is refering to.??
I have purchased a 1tb hard drive today incase the iomega is some how full up.
So really my question to the world is .........Help?

well no reply from the community. sniff- do i stink!? - probably a little bit. If i have lost all that data then I'm gonna really really pong.
Any ways i have purchased a 1tb usb HDD and have managed to duplicate the dmg file onto it. however still unable to mount the **** thing. so now i have ordered disk warrior which will be in my possession tomorrow.
    fingers toes eyes crossed.

  • Mac Book Pro 13" Early 2011 Samsung SSD PinWheel

Mac Book Pro 13" Early 2011 Samsung SSD PinWheel
16GB DDR3 Apple MacBook Approved RAM.
I upgraded to a 250GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO drive, install was fine using IOS 10.6.8 but using Logic Express PinWheel of death
would appear loading tunes, taking ages to load with 16GB RAM? and loading tracks from a Firewire Drive which uses less processor.
I goto Samsung and get the latest Firmware and create an image and burn it to CD and run it from a Command line. The Pin Wheel continues,
I upgrade to Maverick in an attempt Apple would know about Samsung's top of the range SSD drives? perhaps not. I have even more issues since the upgrade,
Itunes unresponsive, missing Apps like Ableton Live 8, more loading Pin Wheel issues.
