Creating Stacks in PSE 3.0

I have WXP, using PSE 3.0.
My problem is that sometimes when I try to create a stack, it will not allow me to (area greyed out). Sometimes it goes just fine (I select using the Control key, etc). Obviously I am doing something different, but am unable to figure out what. Any ideas?
Another question relates to upgrading to 5.0. When I went from 2.0 to 3.0, all my pix in File Browser--Organizer reordered themselves for me by the date taken, except where I had gone in and changed the date of the pix myself (I have many old family pix from early 1900's and try to label them all as to year taken, but MANY are not labeled yet). Is there any way to tell the program to just leave them in the order they are in now?

Hello guys
I currently have a table that have several columns, each column represent one product name, and one column name "units" indicating how each product is sold...
The requirement is to create a chart view with stack bar that shows the percentage of each product''s unit sales.
Now we are discussing whether we should customize the table to consolidate all these product columns into one "product desc" column with all the product names as row in order to fulfill this requirement..
PLease let me know whether this is needed or not... ALso, how would I be able to create stack bar charts that shows the total sales against each product sales in percentage and counts?

I tried to do this and was a bit successful. I used the paint catalog. Created a a request with 6 columns assuming units and dollars be stacked and Year ago units to be a line:
Brand Units Dollars 0 Year_Ago_units 1
Added a new request (Combined with similar request and selected paint subject area): Now in this request my columns are:
Brand 0 0 Year_Ago_Dollars Year_Ago_units 2
Assuming Year_Ago_Dollars be standard in your case.
Created a chart view with brand and 1 on x axis and Units, Dollars, Year_Ago_Dollars on y axis and line as Year_Ago_units.
Now able to see what I am expecting. May be you need to tweak a bit more according to your requirement.

How to create stacked canvas

How to create stacked canvas on a content canvas in forms builder.
Please let me know if anybody has some steps or screenshots.

once you build a content canvass your next step is to create another canvass with a property canvas type of stacked. those two canvas the content and stacked should have the same property of raise on entry yes and should be on the sane window.
to force to display the stacked canvass at runtime on your Form level trigger WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE add this code
show_view('stacked_canvass');where the stacked_canvass is the name your stacked canvass. hope this helps.

Creating Guides in PSE?

I have not found a way to create Guides in PSE 4 or 5, or any information on doing this. Can anyone tell me how this can be done?
Also, guides made on a file created in Photoshop 7 or CS2 do not show up when the file is opened in Elements - is there a way around that?

Turns out you're right, guides created in PH& or CS2 DO show up in PSE 5.
Any thoughts on how to create or view them in 4?
I'm sorry, I don't have enough PSE experience to know how it works, because it's so simple to click and drag from the ruler in CS2.

Check your Editing preferences in the organizer (Edit -> Preferences -> Editing)
Ensure that both editors are selected - the Instant Movie should then show up under Create.

Apple must have pulled this feature at the last minute, and just allow you to create stacks from folders. The procedure was as simple as command-clicking all the apps you wanted and dragging them to the dock. It is a shame that one now has to create aliases of the apps and put them in a folder to create a stack of your most used apps that wouldn't fit in your dock otherwise.

How do you create stacked plots?

Okay, I have tried for quite some time today to create a stacked plot, but without any success. I want to be able to put in a max and min range for the x-axis on the front panel. This x-axis will be used for three different y-axis. Each y-axis will have a different scale than the other ones. Also, each y-axis will have up to 6 different plots. I have attached an example of what I hope the final chart/graph/plot will look like. I have tried combining the x-axis values with the different y-axis values in an array (2D) and then plotting them but nothing seems to work right.

Never had much success getting what I consider "publication quality" graphs out of LV, but that is not what it was built for. It has a great looking GUI and the flexibility to get your data into a program to suit your needs. Doesn't mean that there aren't some features we'd like to see added, especially when it comes to axes and labelling. My advice to you is the following:
1. take a deep breath and decide if this is something you really want to do.
2. perhaps try an in-between solution like stripping down the plots and stacking three XY graphs on top of each other. You can programatically control the scales. You won't have overlap of the plots like you show, and all of the labels will be on the left.
3. Try a standard XY graph and fudge the labels using Ben's very elegant trick. Ben is the go-to-guy (IMO) for picture control questions
4. Explore the Picture VIs to generate plots piece-by-piece. You are in for a lot of work, but it is the only LV-only solution I know to get the results you are looking for. (Perhaps there are new and exciting features in LV2009 that someone will enlighten us with).
5. Do what I do. I use a MathLink connection to Mathematica when I need plots that I can't get easily in LV. You can retrieve the graphics object and display it in a container or a picture control. I use a picture control because the container seems to unload the image when I stop the VI. If you don't have Mathematica, or similar program, sorry.

Creating PDFs in PSE 7

Hi,
I've been looking everywhere to find out what options are available (if any) to create a PDF in PSE 7.
I know how to save a single page, or multi page PDF, but I can't seem to find much options for making the PDF smaller in size.
One problem I have is creating a one page PDF can take up to 1.5mb, whereas if I take that SAME PDF and add a blank page, it will save as 350kb.
Any ideas why that might be?

Yes, just Save As. You might want to check out the online version of Acrobat. I think you can use that a few times before it starts to cost, or there are other PDF creation programs. CutePDF is popular, and free, but I don't know if it has any settings like compression level--haven't used it in a while.

How to create stacked bar and standard bar on same graph

Can OBIEE can both Stacked and Standard bar graph on the same analysis by using Line-Bar graph type? For example, I have four measure: Target revenue, Revenue, Billed Quantity, and Target Quantity. I would like to create an analysis that includes all these four measure. On the same graph, I would like to use Stacked subtype for Target revenue and Revenue, use standard subtype for Billed quantity and use line for Target quantity. I tried, but could not find any way to put stacked subtype and standard subtype on the same graph. Do you know if this feature is available from OBIEE?

Cannot create stack

Hi,
I'm a first time Mac user. I'm trying to create a Stack in my Dock by opening up Finder,then opening either Mac HD,my computer name or Places and then dragging Applications into my Dock but it does not take. Nothing happens. If I drag it from Places it erases with a puff,even if I drag it right into the Dock so the Dock expands. If I drag it from Mac HD nothing at all happens.
I have successfully dragged single apps into Dock,but the entire folder will not go,same with Downloads and other folders.

In Leopard the Dock divider looks a bit like a pedestrian crossing. If you pan the mouse button slowly along the dock it turns from a pointer into something different (I won't try to describe it) as it crosses the divider.
To create a stack you have to drag a folder: that's not an icon out of a finder sidebar or an alias of a folder (check that there is no little arrow in the bottom left of the icon) but the actual folder from a finder window to the Dock at the right of the divider and the left of trash. You need to drag the folder down (assuming your dock is at the bottom) until the icons either side part to make room, then let go. The result is a stack.
If there is nothing in the folder you will see its icon sitting in dock. If the folder has contents, the first few icons listed alphabetically (although you can change that default) will appear piled on top of each other. If you click on the stack it will open a folder window if it is empty or else display either a fan or a grid of icons depending on how many items there are in the folder.

Creating stacked chart on the same measure in Essbase

I need to create a stacked bar chart, my data source is an essbase block strorage cube. I´ve tried to duplicate the measure filtered so I can have to measures, when I do it, I get the following error
Estado: HY000. Código: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 42043] An external aggregate is found in an outer query block. (HY000)
Is there another way to create a stacked bar chart with the same measure ? Does is works when your are using essabe?

I also have the same error when I filter on the measurements with essbase.
To avoid the problem, there must be rule of aggregation on the physical and the business model on sum for the measure.
Can you test and know if it solves your problem

No facility, or button, to create to Slideshow PSE 10 when using iMac

Having recentl changed from Windows PC to iMac, and thus purchased Photoshop Elements 10, I now find that I cannot make a slideshow because there is no "Create Slideshow button" as shown on tutorials. Is this because it is an iMac? or am I missing something. Already having trouble getting JPG photos from Organiser into PSE 10.

Self-created stacks disappear and can't find folders in Finder

Hello, a few times now I've lost stacked folders I've created in the docks. I haven't been able to figure out what's happening exactly, but it seems to have something to do with the desktop display. Most recently I went into Display in System Preferences to run a calibration. Without clicking on anything, the display resolution changed (which of course I changed back), my desktop image was gone (again, no problem to fix) and two question marks replaced the stack folders I created in the dock. (My Documents and Downloads folders were not affected.)
After looking through some discussion topics, I created another stack folder (yes, to the right side of the divide) in the dock just to test things out. I went into the User file. I see the Documents and Downloads folders in there, but not the stacks I created.
So--this is because the stack is just a shortcut, right? Ok, I can get that. However! The stuff that was in those other folders I created is totally gone. So where WAS the contents of those stack folders before the folders were lost? After I dragged the folders down to the dock I deleted the orig folders off the desktop to clean things up--not realizing they were short cuts and thinking this was a great way to keep my desktop nice and clean.
Because of a separate issue I stupidly emptied the trash before trying to completely solve this problem. So, I'll never know if I would've been able to retrieve those lost items. More importantly, I want to understand how this works so I can prevent this from happening again. It seems to me like these folders are so fragile. Therefore, of limited use. If that's the case, fine, it just seemed so nice to be able to put folders down there instead of hanging on the desktop.

Yes, they are shortcuts, or aliases as we call 'em on the Mac. If you delete the original, and it sounds like you did, they no longer point to anything and once the Dock wakes up to that you will see a question mark where your stack was. You can create aliases yourself anywhere, or in the Dock or Sidebar, and then delete the aliases, and the original folder and its contents are unchanged. That's not what you did. You created an alias and then deleted the original.
What you should do is create folders inside your home folder, rather than on the Desktop, then drag those folders into the Dock. You will then have a tidy Desktop, and quick access to the folders from the Dock.

Creating stack automatically with new version when new adjustment made

How do I do it? Actually I don't want that to happen but the way I have aperture set up creates a stack every time I have a new version

"Aperture→Preferences→General" has a checkbox for stacking new Versions.
Lots of useful options in Preferences -- worth looking through all of them.
