Creating standby db 2 ----urgent

Question

I have a primary databse and 1 standby database.
Primary is on solaris 9 and standby is on solaris8.
Oracle versions are 9ir2 on both the machines.
I am trying to upgrade OS of Satndby databse to solaris9.
I would like to create another standby (which is standby 2) on another machine as fall back. This machine(goingt be standby2 ) has exact directory structure as other(primary,standby1).
In case anything goes wrong with OS upgrade I would like to have Standby2.
How can I have standby2 another box without disturbing Primary.
Not even have to shutdown.
Like I am thinking of shutting down Standby1 and copying everything to this newbox(standby2) bringing both standby dbs up until I start
upgrading standby1 unix box.
I will have to add to primary to send logs to standby2 too.
Can someone please give me steps to do this.
We do not use spfile.
Can I use the following command in Primary to transfer logs to stabdby 2?
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3='SERVICE=bostontns'

Do you have lastest backups?
If yes, then, you dont even bother to shutdown or distrub the primary database.
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3='SERVICE=bostontns'
The above command can be used dyanmically, therefore, no shutdown required.
You need to make sure log_archive_dest_state_3 is set to enable (this default).
