Creating Sub-directories in Finder

Greetings
When I am in Finder and choose file new folder from the menu, it creates the new folder at the top level instead of the current level and I have to drag and drop the new folder where I want it.  This is tedious.  How can I create folders at the level I want to without all this drag and drop?
Bob in Portland

In any view, the target folder is the name that appears in the title bar of the Finder Window. In List view, it is not the folder that is selected.
In Column view, it will be the folder that is selected.

  • Newly Created Sub-Directories Don't Have Parent Directory Permissions

    Hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this.
    Background:
    Running 10.4.11 as a file server on a PPC G5 in a small creative office. We have a handful of users accessing via AFP. No other services are running.
    I'm using Workgroup Manager as admin tool.
    Top level directory has permissions set to Read & Write for Owner, Group & Everyone.
    Issue:
    When an authenticated user creates a new directory on the server, the new directory does not honor the parent directory permissions for all three user tiers.
    Rather, in getting info, the owner is momentarily set to the user who created the directory with read & write, then switches to (unknown) with r&w. The group is momentarily correct and then switches to (unknown) despite the creating user being part of a specific group, and has Read only permissions.
    Everyone has Read only permissions.
    If a user attempts to fix permissions on a directory they just created, they are unable to do so.
    So, throughout the course of the day, I am bombarded with "I don't have permissions...", wherein, i use remote access to hit Workgroup Manager and do a global propagation down of the parent directories permissions to allow access. Until someone else makes a directory
    This can't possibly be right. Newly created directories should be set to the parent directory permissions, if i'm not mistaken.
    Anyone? Any insight?
    Michael B.

    oh yes.. you are right... its accessible in
    http:://rishtey.local/default_1.html
    successfully... thanks for that... first of all
    now issue is: when i access http://rishtey.local/test.php which contains just a tag to display php info only...
    instead of rendering this php file, it just save the file in the download folder.
    what could be the issue with it?

  • Appending sub-directories to Finder variables in AppleScript

    How do you append a sub-directory to a Finder variable when moving or duplicating?
    Here's my example.
    +set source to (choose file default location (path to "desk" from user domain) with prompt "Choose files to encode:" with multiple selections allowed)+
    +set dest to choose folder default location (path to "desk" from user domain) with prompt "Choose destination for your encoded files:"+
    +set hex to path to "asup" from user domain+
    +tell application "Finder"+
    +duplicate source to hex with replace+
    +end tell+
    Where I'm using +path to asup+ (which sends me to the users Application Support folder) how do I add a sub-folder, let's call it "test", to this path?

    Here:
    tell application "Finder"
    folder "test" of (path to "asup" from user domain)
    end tell

  • PREPARE doesn't create sub directories

    Hi,
    I am trying to upgrade BW 3.0 to 3.5. I copied latest R3up into the /usr/sap/put/bin directory and tried to run R3up . It created an empty log subdirectory, but no other subdirectories such as ua, tools etc were not created. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Eskay,
    I had similar problem, as I was using different ftp utility. This utility is converting all Upper case letters to lower case, and Prepare program did not recognize the lower case directory names or program names. I copied CDs again using WinSCP utility and resolved the problem.

  • Sub-directories / albums

    Is it possible to create sub-directories of albums in iPhoto 4? Looks like you can create Folders in iPhoto 5 which then contain separate albums, but can you do something similar in iPhoto 4? Basically I want to group all photos from a holiday in Egypt ('master' album/folder called 'Egypt') and the subdivide this into separate albums called e.g. Cairo, Giza, Red Sea etc.) - or is this one of the enancements in iPhoto 5 which couldn't be acieved in earlier versions?
    Neil

    Neil,
    If you have lots of photos have you thought of multiple library folders to speed things up.
    These two apps make it a snap to create multiples and switch between them:
    For using multiple library folders:
    buddy/ manager

  • Sub-directories in the PDBooks

    Hi,
    I use the distribution list to edit some of my reports and place them in a designated folder.
    When I create a new distribution list, I save it in the PDBooks section by doing this : ePublish > Manage distribution list > Save under. Here we have the possibility to create sub-directories in the PDBooks section. That's what I did.
    We also have the possibility to save the distribution list in the PDBooks section of my team.
    However, when we edit the distribution list (ePublish > Offline Distribution Wizard and then Lockdown and Save to folder), we only have access to the distribution lists saved in the company PDbooks directory (not the directory of my team and not the sub-directories).
    Do you have a solution to classify my distribution list according to the users?
    Thanks
    Christelle

    Hello Joris,
    I am an administrator on BPC and I check that I am a teamleader in my team. Moreover, I have access to publisk books.
    Indeed, I can publish distribution list, but only when they are saved in the company PDBooks.
    Do you have another idea?
    thanks.

  • Bash script question, how do I create multiple directories on one line

    I am making a package for amavisd-new (yes I am aware that there is one in community but I can't say I like the way it is done).
    I have an install script from which I want to create multiple directories if they do not exist.
    So I want to create a directory /var/spool/amavis with subdirectories of var tmp virusmails spammassassin .
    I can't seem to be able to find a way to do this on one line.

    Good one!
    Also, it's by far the more dynamic method.
    If you want to get pedantic, it's also far less efficient in terms of execution time: each iteration of the loop forks a new process, whereas using a single mkdir command forks only once.  The "best" way is the curly-braces method demonstrated above by chimeric.

  • How to correct SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar paths in template for sub-directories?

    I recently converted my real estate web site to CSS using Dreamweaver CS4. I use a primary template for most of my pages, which have both a horizontal and a vertical spry menu bar. When I create a page with the template and save it in a sub-directory (not at root level), after a page view,  I get errors on the server such as:
    File does not exist: /home/I_DELETED_THIS/public_html/homes_for_sale/SpryAssets, referer: http://locatehome.com/homes_for_sale/10-2264.htm
    (I replaced part of the URL with "I_DELETED_THIS" since this is posted publicly)
    The SpryAssets directory is at the root level of my site. The template includes the code further below at the bottom of the source code in a non-editable area of the template, which I think is the source of the problem, especially since I get two error messages for each page view and the SpryAssets directory is referenced twice in the following code after the last div. Part of the code is commented out:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar1", {imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    var MenuBar2 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar2", {imgDown:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif", imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    //-->
    </script>
    </body>
    Can I delete this code from the template or will my menu bars not function if they have sub-menus?
    The template changes the file path for other CSS scripts in the head of the template and links, etc. in the body, but not for this section of code. Is there a way to modify my template so that the path files will be correct when a create new pages in sub-directories?
    I saw one suggestion in the Forum to another user with a related problem that he should manually change the code in this section of the template to have a file path relative to the root, but it seems that the program should automatically be taking care of things like that.
    Many thanks,
    Dave K.

    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar1", {imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    var
    MenuBar2 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar2",
    {imgDown:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif",
    imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    //-->
    </script>
    No you cannot delete the menu constructors, they are the ones that call the menus. The comment tags are purely for browsers that do not have JavaScript enabled.
    As far as template behaviours are concerned, I am afraid that this is not a very helpful forum. You will need to go to the Dreamweaver Forum for that http://forums.adobe.com/community/dreamweaver/dreamweaver_general
    I hope this helps.

  • Newly created sub-folder does not appear in correct location

    Hello, When I attempt to create a sub-folder in Finder the newly created folder is located at the bottom of the Documents drive and not within the folder I'd originally selected, eg:
    1) viewing the Finder in List view, selected a folder in the Documents Drive, eg DOCUMENTS / WORK
    2) from the "Action" button at the top of the Finder page I've selected "new folder" option
    3) A new folder has been created but it's placed at the bottom of the Documents drive, eg DOCUMENTS / UNTITLED FOLDER
    I've attempted this a number of times and always with the same results, is this bug occurring for all 10.5 users? I hope not because this is a shocker.
    Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    This appears to be a design decision, as when you're in list view, the current folder is the one displayed in the window. If you want it to work the way you think it should, use column view.

  • Creating sub-pages in iWeb'09?

    Hello!
    i've just starte using iWeb, and trying to create my own web page. I can't find a solution on the above: how can i create "sub-pages"? For example: I want to create a main page called Photos (appearing in main menu bar), and UNDER this page i want to create "sub-pages" called photos1, photos2, photos3, etc. (appearing UNDER Photos page).
    How can I do this?
    Thanks,
    Bazsi21

    Hello:
    I just read your post regarding creating web pages in iweb. This is something i have been trying to do also. Do you happen to know whether there's a way of creating sub pages from the main navigation menu, rather than pasting hyperlinks into the page. If i create an envertainment magazine, and one section is "movies", then I want all articles on movies to fall within that category, WOuld be far easier if visitors click on 'movies' link in navigation bar, and then see the list of articles. Is there a way to do this in iweb?
    If not, i am wondering why Apple didn't include this basic necessity when creating the program.
    I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks.

  • Include all sub-directories and files?

    I did search, so don't complain that this has been asked a billion times.
    I am using Automator to replace text for files and folders. But this only works with the files and or folders I select, it doesn't do it with the sub-directories and sub-files. How can I config. Automator to do this?
    Thanks.

    The various actions operate on whatever is input to them. If you are referring to the *Rename Finder Items* action, you can use the *Get Folder Contents* action to go into sub folders, but be careful, since this action will go into bundles/packages such as applications and RTFD files.

  • Jad in sub directories

    Hello all,
    How can i use JAD to de-compile all the class files in java files in a

    Thank You.

    Nope... DW wants to find all of its templates in one place.
    Can't you just name the file admin.dwt and keep it in the default

  • Workgroup Manager won't create home directories; no error message

    This is quite frustrating. For the past 3 years or so I have used the same procedure to add new users to my LDAP directory:
    1) In Workgroup Manager, click the New User button
    2) Assign name and password under the basic tab
    3) Assign group memberships under the Groups tab
    4) Under the Home tab, select the right place (nfs://my.server.org/Volumes/Users), click Create Home Now
    5) Click Save
    Suddenly, when I try to do this yesterday, workgroup manager won't create home directories anymore. I could probably do it manually, but I'm not sure how to get all the right skeleton setup in there. But my main question is, why doesn't this work anymore? Why can't I at least get an error message instead of being silently ignored?
    I share admin duties with other people, so it's possible someone installed an update recently; all I can really say is that I'm running Leopard Server 10.5.8 right now, and can find out whatever else is relevant.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the pointer to createhomedir - that did indeed do the trick. (How on earth do people find these little nuggets).
    I hesitate to mark this as solved however - it's a functioning workaround, but does nothing to explain why on earth the GUI suddenly stopped functioning.
    But in the (likely) event that that question never gets answered, thanks again for letting me get on with working!

  • Can't find brushes sub folder in finder

    Hi everyone Im trying to clean up my presets in Photoshop CS5, I recently saved some brushes I created in photoshop and I clicked on the new folder button at the bottom to create a new folder called "My brushes" and I saved the brushes there, which was great as it created a separator line between my brushes and photoshops built in brushes keeping things neat and made looking for my brushes less confusing, as before it mixed them up alphabetically with the built in brushes in the pull down menu in the brushes panel.
    However now I cant find this "my brushes" folder or its contents anywhere except in photoshop, so I cant rename the folder, delete it or backup my brushes does anybody know where photoshop is hiding them ? any help greatly appreciated

    Im using Lion so the library folder was hidden by default in users, I thought Id enabled it in the terminal but must have been confused with the HD library folder. Ive enabled it now and all is well wish Adobe would default to saving in the Applications/Adobe Photoshop/presets folder and creating sub folders in this folder creates a line partition in the save load pull down menu, it would make it so much more simple and intuitive.
    Thanks for all your help much appreciated
