Creating sub-pages in iWeb'09?

Hello!
i've just starte using iWeb, and trying to create my own web page. I can't find a solution on the above: how can i create "sub-pages"? For example: I want to create a main page called Photos (appearing in main menu bar), and UNDER this page i want to create "sub-pages" called photos1, photos2, photos3, etc. (appearing UNDER Photos page).
How can I do this?
Thanks,
Bazsi21

Hello:
I just read your post regarding creating web pages in iweb. This is something i have been trying to do also. Do you happen to know whether there's a way of creating sub pages from the main navigation menu, rather than pasting hyperlinks into the page. If i create an envertainment magazine, and one section is "movies", then I want all articles on movies to fall within that category, WOuld be far easier if visitors click on 'movies' link in navigation bar, and then see the list of articles. Is there a way to do this in iweb?
If not, i am wondering why Apple didn't include this basic necessity when creating the program.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks.

  • How do I create sub-pages in iWeb?

Hi, How do I create sub-pages in iweb like it does in this website
    http://www.e-alliance.ch/index.php?id=405
with all the main menus "about us", "advocacy capacity", etc?
    Thank you for your help!!!
    Boaz

To create sub pages, just ensure that the main menu item is in the main menu and then for the sub pages themselves, ensure that they are NOT in the main menu and you link back by creating links instead.
For example, you could use Staff as a main menu item, so Staff would be in the main menu and then descriptions of different staff members would be underneath, but not in the main menu - they would have separate links that you create and then hyperlink.
If you want to make drop down menus in iWeb, as in the site that you linked to, you can't do this directly in iWeb itself.  You have to make it and then upload various css files to your web host and link to it in iWeb etc.  It is quite a complex task to create drop down menus in iWeb.  If you want to do that, then I would suggest that you use a different app instead - take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.

  • Creating sub pages

How does one do this in iWeb?

Keep main page in the navigation menu and then for your sub pages, you don't put them in the nav menu - open the Inspector and then click on Page and then click on the box that has "don't include page in nav menu" and that is it.
You then create your own links on the sub pages back to the main page and wherever you want by using either shapes or text boxes or whatever.
To make the whole process easier, you could always ditch the iWeb page template nav menu by turning it off and creating your own text based nav menu, which makes creating sub pages easier - you just don't include what you don't want.

  • Creating new pages in iWeb

Could someone assist please with creating new pages within a page - that is if I need to follow from
a previous page with in context stuff, but I don't want a NEW page with a NEW page heading at the top.
I just want to put more stuff up under an existing page heading and using an arrow to go to new page
all in the same section. Rather than filling the top with new page headings. Sorry if I cant explain it better! Thanks - Gareth

This works for your site because it is mostly photos and you have used the Photo Page, fine. However, what you need to remember is that many people just have ordinary websites without photos who might still want to use sub pages and this method will not work for them because there are not forward and back links.
I have sub pages on my own website and basically, I created an About Us page. I have some text there, but then I have something that says find out more about these people. I did not want these other pages displayed in the main nav bar, so I took them all out and what I have done on the About Us page is use a shape with the name of the person in it and created a hyperlink to that page. You click on the relevant shape and this takes you to the page for that person - on this page I have then created a shape with Back and Forward in it - the Back hyperlink if clicked on takes you back to the About Us page and the Forward hyperlink takes you to the page for the next person etc.
If you want to create sub pages on an ordinary web site, then this is how you need to do it - you need the links on the pages that are not in the main nav bar to be able to get around the site.
You don't have those links on your site, but as it is mainly photos then this does not matter and works for you, as you go from gallery to gallery. This will not work for everyone though - horses for courses! What works for one might not work for another.

  • "Sub-pages" in iWeb

I am making a site in which one of the pages needs a bunch of "sub-pages" that should not be listed among the main menu links (Welcome, About Me, Contact, etc.) The main page, listed on the menu, will be called "Books" and each sub-page will concern one book. I want to have five or six of these. This would create way too much clutter if each book were included in the main menu.
The sub-pages could be listed on a drop-down menu from Books. If iWeb won't do this, I could simply link manually from within each page's content. But every time I go to create a new page, iWeb wants to put in the main menu.
Is there a way to accomplish my goal with iWeb?
    Thanks!

James ~ See this Apple doc:

Regarding sub-pages, this article may help:

Or, instead of iWeb, use a free web-based app such as weebly.com that provides for sub-pages:

  • Sub-Pages on iWeb

Hello Forum! I am learning how to create an iWeb site. I'm curious to do the following:
If I want something like a sub-page, let's call it "My Portal", to be under the "About Me" link...how do I do that?
Another words, people that will come to visit my site, they'll see that there's an "About Me" link, but they won't see the "My Portal" sub-page, until they go to the "About Me" page. That's the only way "My Portal" will be visible.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks so much in advance!!

Find out more about iWeb navigation here...
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebNavigationmenu.html
Larger sites are usually organized into main sections that are listed in the main navigation. Each main section has a sub menu to navigate around it.
In your case, About Me would be in the main navigation and My Portal, and any other pages you may want to add in the future, would be in the sub navigation. This is probably more than you want at the moment but will help you stay organized as you website grows.

  • I would like to create sub-pages

I would like to create pages that are sub-pages of other pages

It will cost you a lot of time as family trees have lots of links.
I use ohmigene : http://ohmi.celeonet.fr/ohmiGene/indexEN.html to generate html pages.
It has a very clumsy interface and there are errors in the html pages, so you'll have to correct them.
In iWeb you can use an iFrame (insert html snippet) to show the index page of your family tree.
But, you better ask someone experienced with html family trees.

  • Can there be an Home/Index page that has links to sub pages in iWeb?

How do you set up a Home page with links to other Photo web pages?
iWeb does a super job creating individual pages full of photos.
But if I want to have a "Directory" page that kicks off the whole site, how do I do that in iWeb?
I want to break up my photo pages into groups like:
Portraiture, Still Life, Life Style etc.

    Thanks Will.
Most of my site is created in iWeb. I have been messing around with a iCalendar PHP also, to create a nice calendar for the site.
The Home page is a couple of programs used together.
    1. I drew sketches of the little main street.
    2. recreated the main Street in a GREAT program called SketchUp. it is the most User Friendly 3D program around and their Website has super tutorials to get you up and running in no time - seriously. Then exported it out to Photoshop as a flattened jpg. (I also did this for the individual buildings for my Banners)
    3. In Photoshop, I painted my buildings and gave them some personality.
    4. I originally had an Image Map that I created in ImageReady as my Home page, but that doesn't work for iWeb, so I had to use Flash.
    5. I made a Flash Movie creating my Buttons and Links and Rollovers (Here you have to Plan some, cause you need to what pages you will have at the end and know the URL to the final pages iWeb produces. It is something like ..sitefolder/sitename/Home.html.
    6. Then, I published it as a Quicktime Movie from Flash. You have to Publish as Flash 5 compatible in order to get a quicktime movie. Also, I set up my movie to loop, no controller, and auto play in Flash.
    7. Put it on my Home page. (The controller shows up in iWeb, but not in the final Published Site. (I also do not have to manually change the HTML to autoplay "true" and controller "false" on this particular page. I do have to on others though.)
Thanks again Will, for your kind words - I have been working very hard on this site.
Also, don't forget to go to Suzanne's Site 11mystics.com for a lot of information and iWeb tips, tricks, and related links.

  • How to add sub pages in iWeb templates

Anybody knows how to add a sub pages in the templates? I want to add sub pages under the main header, e.g. "About Us."

Just to say that you can do it in the way that Steve has already said and I did this on one of my sites and it worked really well.
Lets take your example of About George. You create your page About George and you include this page in your navigation menu. Now lets suppose that you have more that you want to add about George with two other pages - George at Work and George at Play. You want to link to these pages from About George, but you don't want the page names visible. Well, you can do this by creating the pages and then going to Inspector. Click on pages and then check don't include in navigation menu. Then you can create links on the About George page to get to the other pages George at Work and George at Play - use shapes or text boxes to create these with something like Back and Next on those pages to take you forward to the next page and then back to the main page.
I think you will need to create your own nav bar to be able to achieve this, as it means linking to different pages, but it does work well.

  • Can not create a page in iWeb.

    Hi there,
I suddenly can not create a new page with my site on iWeb. I can also not import photos by dragging them over, nor can I create a new site with iWeb!
Last time this happened I quite iWeb then it woudn't open again. I have managed to get my website back but now face the same problem with not being able to create a new page etc!
    Any ideas?
    Sarah

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents of the User/Home/Library/Caches/iWeb folder
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • How can i publish my webpage to a website I just created a page in iweb

how do you setup a webpage using the iweb page i made

You want to publish the website you created so it appears online, right?  Here's what you need to do:
    1 - find a hosting service.
2 - get a domain name. Unless you have a MobileMe account you will need a domain name in order to publish a site and have it accessable online.
3 - get the ftp address of your account on the server, put it into iWeb 3's publish to section and publish your site to the server.
There's a hosting service that inlcude a domain name (free registration) with every account.  Contact HostExcellence.com about their basic package for $3.95/mo (with a 2 year committment).
This tutorial will help explain it in more detail: 28 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb.  This site will also provide more info on HD: Using HostExcellence - iWebFAQ.org

  • Newbie..I would like to create a page in IWeb

That I could use to attach to an online ad a free standing mini page with a picture and additional info for advertising purposes. Is this the best application to create this? Anything I have created with the iweb templates 1) I cant seem to locate a SAVE AS (same thing in Iphoto after I may do some minor editing) and 2) It seems as though whatever I am creating within the templates are for publishing live only. I have a web site already..I just want to create kind of a mini one page with photos and text that I can use kind of like a giant jpeg..if I could figure out how to add movement and music(HTML code) that would be a bonus but one step at a time for me,,the newbie.
    Thank you!!!!

Wow thank you those are amazing..I will play around with them and I am assuming at the end whatever I have created can be saved as .jpeg or.img as I believe these are the only acceptable formats approved for some of the locations I would like to place them on.
Thanks again for taking time to reply

  • Creating professional pages in iWeb

I'am trying to create a unique and definitely professional laid out website.
however i notice when i use the templates on iWeb that it automatically creates the links at the top of each page when i create a new page for the site im working on.
is there a way to change this to like how i used to design sites in dreamweaver (cant use DW as i dont have CS5 at the moment).
    any input would be appreciated.
    thanks!

Use the Page inspector to hide the default navigation and create your own......

Use a blank page in Black or White theme and adjust the dimensions in the Page inspector layout window.....
