Creating swf file?

Hi Client has asked me to create a .swf file, which I have
done from my Quicktime film, now I have CS3 video encoder and all
works fine and I get a .flv file that plays fine, so how do I
create a .swf file, and what is the difference between them?

there's no theoretical reason a swf can't create a new swf, but i've never seen it done and there's built-in functionality that would allow you to do that.

Does DW create .swf files?

Hello, I have Creative Suite 2, and have been asked by a
client (I am also a web developer, but mainly using ASP) to rescue
their website. Their designer has *lost* the original files which
were written in Dreamweaver, so he tells me, and I don't have a
copy of Dreamweaver.
AS I have CS2 - photoshop, illustrator, indesign, GoDesign,
is there a way I can get Dreamweaver, or another product cheaply,
just so I can help this one client out? I am not too sure I
actually want to plunge in and buy Dreamweaver, as I don't really
know what I would use it for, and I expect the learning curve to be
as steep as the other Creative Suite products were!
If anyone could recommend/suggest a fix for me (all I have
are .html and .swf files that are sitting on my client's website),
for me to be able to update his website, that would be great - I
really don't want to have to scrap what he has and start over in
another software package. Or if you can convince me that it is easy
to start desiging flash files, maybe I might go there! (I presume
Dreamweaver's primary purpose is to create Flash websites?)

On Mac created swf file looses actions once opened on PC

The following issue is occuring:
We create an ebook with Indesign CS5. Then create an FLA file from it or export from pdf to swf straight via InDesign. We create swf in HTML and an Exe file. The following happens:
The Exe file is totally corrupted. Once opened on the PC either in Explorer or FireFox The file just goes wild no actions work at all. The HTML with the swf file works partly. The sound buttons don't work nor the external links in the files. This is a major isuue and we must find a solution for this.

So far I made a bit of progress and the following happens:
The original file is created in InDesign CS5 for Mac with animations, sounds and internal and external (Go To URL) links.
Once exported to SWF from Indesign and opened either with Flash player or Firefox on the Mac everything seems to be in order. Once I open the file on a browser on the PC s.a. Explorere or Firefox the external links won't work. All the rest works but the GoTo URL won't open the url's
I can't seem to find a reason for this. Are you familiar witrh this issue and if so do you have any suggestions that may solve this issue?

Hi. Is there any way to export a file to swf format? Your help would be very much appreciated.

Current versions of After Effects do not export SWF files. Previous versions exported SWF files but did so very badly, which is why we removed the feature.
You can download a previous version of After Effects if you absolutely need to create a SWF file from After Effects.

Creating swf file with along with linked flv content

Can anyone tell me the procedure for creating an swf and
linked flv file with Sorenson Squeeze for deployment on the Breeze
server or in Breeze Presenter. All Adobe will share is the how to
ithis with Flash. I feel certain this can be done, but all my
attempts have failed in that the published swf will not display the
referred flv content. To interpret the Flash procedure it seems
that all one has to do is add /output "file name" to the swf player
flve linked url, but the published swf file does not seem to be
linked with the published flv file. - even when I have made that
flv file public.

You wrote "I've imported the FLV into the 'stage' and added a skin through the wizard" from this I conclude that you choose the deafult option, that says "load external video with plyback component" (only this one offers you a skin wizard). But when you deploy that swf to a server it still needs the flv source (search Help for FLVplayback), and even the Skin (its an extra swf) must be depoyed to the server. What you instead want to do is option 2: embed FLV in swf. There are some disadvantages to this solution: the longer the video, the more probable it is, Audio and Video will get desynchronized, and: you can`t use Adobes premade skins for the controls

Playing interactive swf files in instructor led class

We are putting together an instructor led online course. The problem we keep running into, is that when we import a .swf file when we do share document, the files comes up for all to see, but anybody (teachers, stuidents, facilitator) can click on any of the buttons and everyone only sees what is on their screen as opposed to what the instructor is trying to show. If we switch to share instructors screen and select application, it works - everyone sees what the instructor sees and only the instructor can hit different buttons - which is what we want - however the quality of the .swf file gets distorted grainy and plays really slow. Does anybody have any solutions - is there a capability that I missed?

If you are using custom created SWF files make sure that you are building it to the guidelines given for the Collaboration SDK found here, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/adobeconnect.html.
You will be able to sync the file across all attendees in the room by doing the steps provided in that documentation. Otherwise, if you are using Captivate or Presenter, it should automatically sync.

Captivate 1 and publishing SWF files

I have (registered) captivate 1.01 (build 1418 full
version). I have install it on several (3-4) laptops (replacements,
upgrades) and ... now have a client that requires this older
version for development. I can record the move, create exe files. I
can't just publish a swf file. Did I screw up my license somehow?
Do I have a virus? I need to create swf files to import into their
development tool (EEDO). HELP!!!!

If you double-click the icon, does Windows prompt you for
what it should do with the file? If so, try choosing Internet
Explorer and see if it plays.

Text seen in swf file but not seen in flash pro. publish

I am using fmath formula component for flash. when i push ctrl+enter, texts in formula object are not seen, there is only tiny squareroot symbol. however, when i open created swf file, everything seems normal. I use flash player version 11.2. . Also, everything is ok in version 9.

Are you setting the font that is being used to display the formula yourself? If so is it properly embedded and issued to the component properly? A quick way to check is to use a known system front (Arial, _sans, etc) and see if text shows up. If it does you're just not either embedding properly or aren't pointing to the font correctly in the component.

Can't get swf. file to play in dreamweaver

Trying to put video into dreamweaver. I created swf file in flash. Can't seem to get it play when i import the file to html page.
What files need to be in the Dreamweaver folder? HTML, Skin, swf? thanks for any help. Owen

When you create the file in Flash, it is usually best to also have it publish an html page. Copy the embedding code that Flash creates in the html file and paste it into your intended html file. The Flash code may also be reliant on including a .js file, which it will also create, so that needs to be placed in the site folder. The header of the Flash html may include a script link to this js file, so you need to copy/paste that in the intended html page as well.

C++ API to generate SWF files

I have C++ application which should generate presentation in
Flash. It should allows me to embed video data and play it as well.
I know about libming and sswf libraries but they don't look very
functional. Any comments?

You don't need to generate a SWF file for every MP4 and FLV
file -- for example, you could have one SWF file (running in Flash
Player in a web browser) that acts as a video player for all your
video files.
The SWF file lives on the web server and is sent over HTTP to
Flash Player running in a web browser (or to AIR, or to Flash Lite
running on a mobile device). The SWF file creates a connection to
an FMS application over RTMP (see the NetConnection ActionScript
class). Once the connection is made, the SWF file can ask the FMS
application for any video on the server (see the NetStream class).
FMS streams the video files to the SWF file.
In other words, the SWF file lives on the web server and the
video files live on FMS. (Flash Media Interactive Server does have
a C++ plug-in architecture that lets it retrieve files over HTTP,
but most people should store their video files on FMS using either
local or network storage).
You're right about your options for creating SWF files -- but
since you don't need to create 1000s of SWFs, you'll probably be OK
going with Flash CS3 or Flex Builder if you want to use an
authoring tool.

Swf file getting paused/freezed while playing

I have created swf file using scorm format in captivate. Both in preview and publish, the frames get auto pause in the middle(it varies - sometimes middle, sometimes towards the end) of the slide duration. To resume, we have to manually select the play button in the pay bar. As a result of this, text animation with fixed duration fly in as a block once we select the play button.

The behavior is normal. You are using a Button widget, I think the corrected Static Button widget, and that one pauses at half the duration of its timeline. Since you show those widgets for the total duration of the slide, which is 31 secs, it pauses at exactly 15,5 secs. I did check this by using a Text Caption with the system variable rdinfoCurrentFrame, it halted at the value 465 (FPS=30, so this is 15,5secs).
Do you need that widget really? For a normal button (you could create a custom image button with similar look) you can control the timing of the pause, which is not the case for this widget. Or else you'll have to delay the appearance of the widget, so that its duration is shorter and time in such a way that the last Text animation is playing totally.
Was also astonished by the size of that 1-slide file...

Cannot import a swf file

Hello - I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm using Powerpoint
2007 and adobe presenter. I've created SWF files in both captivate
and camtasia. So when I try to import the swf into powerpoint using
presenter, nothing happens. I click import swf, choose the file, if
I click the preview button I can see it, but when I click "open" it
does not attach to the slide. I can't see if it I preview the
presentation and there is nothing in the manage swf option either.
I am at a total loss so any advice would be helpful.

I am looking for a tool that can allow me to create SWF files to be used for Custom Dashboard. I know that using third-party SWF file creation tools, swf template files can be created and we can build custom dashboards in Unifier.

The only tool that the SWF Dashboards were designed to work with is Xcelcius. Please bear in mind that only legacy Skire customers that had created SFW dashboards have the ability to use SWF dashboards.

Exporting from Keynote as a .swf file

Seems can't get soundtrack to be part of flash file? Is there a special format that will allow background music?

Sorry but no - Edge Animate is an HTML5 animation tool, and creates only HTML & Javascript files.
If you need to create swf files, Adobe Flash Professional CC exports to swf as its native format (as well as many others):

SWF File won't Play

I'm currently trying to create a remedial class in Moodle. We
are using Adobe Captivate 2 to create example slideshows. Luckily
for me, some of the material has been created in D2L. There are
Flash items in a D2L course that I can use for my course.
Bottom line...I'm trying to copy some pre-created SWF files
from another source and paste them into Captivate 2 to create a
slideshow.
I've downloaded the SWF files from their original folders and
saved them on my hard drive. Then I've clicked "Insert Animation
Slide" and selected one of the SWF files. When I play the slide, I
get nothing.
I can't figure out what's happening? Any suggestions?
