Creating two completely separate iphoto applications

I'm really wanting to have two completely separate iphoto applications, one for work and one for personal. Rather than doing this by creating separate albums and folders I'd rather just have one iphoto app for personal and one for work. Is this possible or does anyone know a good workaround?
Cheers, James

you do not want two applications - you want two libraries - iPhoto library manager is very useful for that - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/

  • How do we create two completely separate address books?

Under our mailboxes folder, we have created two separate email accounts. How do we create an address book for each email account? (they need to be completely separate from each other)

This is easy. You can do an export (backup) and import of the address book. So get one you like, export it. Create a new one, export it. Now just import the one you want to work with. Just be sure to export it again before you import the other one, in case you have made changes.
I do this for separate mailing lists, etc.

  • Can i have two completely separate backups with Time Machine

    Hi
Before i did this i thought it best to ask the question here.
Basically i have two huge iTunes libraries. One for official music, the other for unofficial stuff. Both of these libraries have their own separate external hard drives.
For one of the libraries i have Time machine backing it up using a 3rd external hard drive. What i need to do is add a 4th external hard drive to back up the other library using the same Mac and same Time Machine. Can this be done does anybody know? Im on 10.6.8 so quite old but its fine for what i need.
    Many thanks.

You would have to change the setting in System Preferences/Time Machine as you switched which external drive you were backing up. Creating a clone would be an easier option I think.
Clone  - Carbon Copy Cloner          (Often recommended as it has more features than some others)
    Clone – Data Backup
    Clone – Deja Vu
    Clone  - SuperDuper
    Clone - Synk
Clone Software – 6 Applications Tested

  • RV180W and two completely separate networks.

First off, let me state that I'm not an IT person.  I'm an architect working in a small office that happens to be home to two seperate businesses, each with their owner network.  However, these two networks want to use the same large format printer.  I recently purchased the RV180W since the Cisco representative told me i would be able to connect both networks to the router so they can both see the printer without seeing the files on each of the other networks.  We simply want to share the same printer.
    Network 1:
    192.168.4.1
    Network 2
    192.168.2.1
    Large Format Printer
    192.168.4.151
Network 1 has the RV180W as it's router with three gigabit switches.  Computers and peripherals are connected to the three switches.  1 port open on the last switch.
I want to configure the RV180W to see both 192.168.4.1 and 192.168.2.1
What settings need to be modifed in order to accomplish this?  Do I need more equipment?  Is it easier to put a wireless card in one of the computers on the 192.168.2.1 network and then set it to see the 192.168.4.1 network?
I read somewhere about VLAN's... whatever they are.
Again, talk to me like I'm a novice.  I'm not fluent in this field.
    All the best,
    Jay

Thanks for the update, Jason. As you have two different internet connections, you will need a VPN. A VPN creates an encrypted connection, or tunnel, across the internet between your two routers. Information from one network will then be able to access the other, and vice versa.
Setting up a VPN has several requirements:
-Different network subnets at each site - You have already configured this correctly.
-Public IP addresses on the WAN interface of each router. You can verify this by going to Status>System Summary and looking for the WAN (Internet) Information. If the IPv4 address begins with a 10, 172.16, or 192.168, your proably have a modem/router, and will need to bridge it.
Depending on your internet service provider or model of modem, you may need to bridge your modem in order for you public IP address to be on the router, and not the modem. Such a configuration is often referred to as bridge or passthrough mode.
Once these requirements are met, configuring the VPN itself is realitively straightforward. Just login to each router and go to VPN > IPsec > Basic VPN Setup. Here, you will enter a name, password, and the local and public IP addresses of the other router. Thus, you will point each router towards the other.
Once you verify you have a public IP address on the WAN interface of each router, I would be happy to provide you with specific instructions on how to configure the tunnel. If you run into any issues, you can always call us at 1-866-606-1866. We would be happy to assist you and can even setup a remote support session.

  • Two completely separate distict X sessions and Fluxbox

Hi all, forgive me if this has been beaten to death, I did search for several hours on this, and this is my first ever post on the Archlinux forums, but I've been using Arch for a little over a year now, and LOVE IT.
Back in the day, in the older version of Xorg, I had 2 separate X sessions, one for each external monitor on my Dell D610 laptop.  I had 2 desktops defined in Fluxbox as well.  I could NOT drag from one monitor to the other (which is the way I want it).  I was able to have 2 different backgrounds, one for each monitor.  I had 6 virtual desktops on display 0 (left monitor) and 4 virtual desktops on display 1 (right monitor).  I had/have one monitor plugged into the external VGA port and the other plugged into the external DVI port.
But since upgrading to the newer Xorg and Indel drivers, I have not been able to achieve this.  I have the dual monitorsetup, but it's a single session wich displays across 2 monitors (I can drag windows from one monitor to the other).  I have been using Xrandr to get the dual monitor setup (to get non mirrored).
My question is, is there any way I can get this configuration back, without going back to the older Xorg and Intel driver version?
I now have a Dell D630 with the internal Intel video card.
    Thanks,
    Don

Hello all, thank you for your answers!
You were right with the multiseat but that it's not what I looked for. I have tried to get two seats with the same hardware, and obviuosly it didn't work (at all).
So I continue reading articles and this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/X and this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=131419 and finally I realized my problem: I had missing packages.
    So, I installed them with
    pacman -S xorg-twm xorg-xclock xterm
and then I entered to a terminal pressing CTRL + ALT + F1. I logged in with my user and I typed
    startx -- :1 &
    and it worked!!!!
    I got in vt8 (CTRL + ALT + F8) 3 windows: 2 xterms and 1 clock.
Then I took a terminal and wrote "wine starcraft\ II.exe" and it worked like a charm.
    Regards!!!!

  • Needed: Two completely separate cookies for two firefox windows (or tabs) for the same site in both.

    Hello,
I have searched and I can not a Firefox (FF) feature or an add-on that alleviates this issue, please let me know if either already exists, thank you in advance for your time.
Issue: I have had great difficulties in having two FF browser windows logged into different accounts on the same site at the same site.
For instance, say I have logged into gmail.com in browser window A.
Then I try to log into different gmail account in browser window B.
Every time I replicate this scenario with secure sites, problems arise one way or another.
It seems as though the two cookies are connected in some way, and I wish I had the ability to disconnect the two cookies from two FF browser windows.
Also, expanding this capability to two FF tabs in a single browser window would be phenomenal.
Thanks again for your time and please let me know of any suggestions that you have.

There is an addon that will allow cookies to be self-contained in tabs. It isn't perfect but it works http://www.nektra.com/products/cookiepie-tab-firefox-extension

  • Creating two profiles on itunes

How can I create two separate ipods folders on itunes? My girlfriend wants to manage her ipod and songs on my itunes. How can this be done?

Thank you very much! The article on multiple ipods on one computer won't load. Do you know where I can find it?
There are a couple of methods recommended for using
more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one
is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by
definition would give you two completely separate
libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so
that either one or both iPods get updated with only
certain playlists within one library. Have a look at
this article and see what you think and go for
whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One
    Computer
A third option is to use a single library but update
one or both iPods manually: Managing Your Songs Manually

  • 2 completely separate iTunes folders

Is there a way to make two completely separate iTunes folders for where I import songs. I want one folder for MP3 that will be put on an iPod and another folder for AIFF/lossless for songs that will be burned to CD. If anyone has any other solutions that would work, let me know. Thanks

If you only use iTunes to play your music, it makes no difference what folders your music is in. As long as iTunes can find them iTunes is happy.
Just create playlists or smart playlists if you want to play only songs in a certain format.
Or, just before you import, choose a new iTunes Music folder location and choose the folder you want. But, again, it doesn't matter to iTunes where the music files are.
If you are using another playback program in addition to iTunes I might see a need to have separate folders.

  • I want to use two separate Lion Time Machine backups and use them to create two separate profiles on one new computer

This is something I need to do temporarily but I must do it.
I have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5.  It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal.
I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire.
I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive.  Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates.
When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile.  The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile.   We can both be administrators for the time being as well.  I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.
My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space.
My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space.
This is temporary until the new iMac is released.  Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.
I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well.  But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.
I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable.  We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.  And any other suggestions as well.
    Thanks very much.

Hey Shootist000,  Thanks for the replies.  First off, I am actually okay if we both have each other applications so I am not concerned about that. It is still unclear from what you have said as to whether I can in fact, use these two separte time machine backup to create two separate profiles on the new hard drive.  If that in fact can be done, then - will it create two copies of the apps we both have in the ROOT of the drive as well as placing all the ones we each have separately?
And reading your second reply, makes me think that maybe the partition is the way to go to begin with and then down the road - after I am in the new iMac, I could reformat the iMac 27 with only one partion and restore my son's latest back prior to the reformat thus giving him full access to the 2 TB of the drive.
If this is still making sense, does this mean :
    replace the 1TB with a 2TB - but have it partitione - 1.5 TB & 500 GB.
Install(Restore using Time Machine) my latest back up prior to the  1.5 partition
Install (Restore using Time Machine) my son's latest back up prior to the 500 gig partition
Lastly, in order for us both to be using the partioned computer - I am assuming Switch user can no longer be used - so would we need to restart and select our respective partions in order to use the computer?   And if so, how would we each be able to be using time machine to back up - two separte external hard drives - with each one dedicated to only one partition? Or ?
    Thanks so much.
Ironically, I am only trying to do this so that I don't need to manually install all his apps, setting, games, blah blah for this temporary period.  :-)

  • How do I set up two accounts with two separate mail applications?

My wife and I have two separate email accounts. At home she gets her mail on her computer and mine on my computer. While traveling I would like to be able to allow her to get her email on my laptop. I set up the 2nd account and activated it but her email comes in mixed with mine. How can I set up a separate mail program for her account?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jim Conrad

    Hello Jim.
As already provided, open Inbox to reveal the Inbox for each account. Selecting an account's Inbox mailbox reveals messages received by that account only in the message list. Selecting Inbox reveals a "blended" Inbox mailbox for all accounts.
The same applies to Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the mailboxes drawer.
If you want these accounts to be truly separate, create a login account on your iBook for your wife - with or without admin privileges. Your wife can create her email account only in Mail under her login account and you can delete her account from Mail under your login account.
This way, each others' email accounts are kept completely separate along with all other data in each other's Home folder/directory. OS X was designed for multiple users in this way.
You can enable Fast User Switching which makes the process of switching between multiple login accounts a fast and easy process.
There are some families with 4 or more family members that use a single Mac in this way. Each login account can have their own Desktop background and settings, etc., etc. so when logging in to their account the Mac seems like it is theirs only.
This link focuses on setting up separate user login accounts for kids but the effect is the same.

  • I have created another iTunes library (so I have 1 for an ipod touch and 1 for an iPad), but the apps from the iPad appear in both libraries. How can I stop this so teh 2 libraries are completely separate please?

I have created another iTunes library (so I have 1 for an ipod touch and a separate 1 for an iPad), but the apps from the iPad appear in both libraries. How can I stop this so the 2 libraries are completely separate? Thanks

You don't need two separate libraries to manage two devices.
I suspect the reason that the apps are appearing in both libraries is that you have enabled automatic downloads in iTunes and automatic syncing of apps so that all your purchases end up in both libraries, defeating your original aim.
Why not use a single library and make playlists for the media content you want on each device? Disable Settings > Store > Automatic Downloads > Apps on each device, then connect each device in turn and turn off Automatically Sync Apps on the Apps page.
You can now manage your devices independently, while only having to manage the content of one iTunes library, instead of two.

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?
