  • Stretching type on a path

I know you can only work with one path at a time, but is there anyway to create type on a path that stretches each letter as the word goes on? Basically, The bottom arc drops sharper than the top arc, but I would like to type to stretch proportionally to the top arc... does this make sense anyone?

If I wanted the type to follow the first brown scroll (so it would start in the green that fades to white) but I want the top to stretch to the upper brown images of people with their arms up...

  • Type on a path that gradually increases in size from left to right

I need to create type on a path where the characters gradually increase in size from left to right. I know that I can manually change the size of each character, but does anyone know of an easier way to do this -- possibly with a script?

The link to the script mentioned in the above thread is broken, but this one should work:

  • Creating type along or inside a path

    Hi All,
I read the tutorial about Creating type along or inside a path. I have tried to create few types of type along, inside and outside a path and shape. I was wondering why there are variations and restriction among them. Below are my screen shots to describe my problem.
    Screen 1

Sorry, I have been trying to upload the screen shots, now it is done.
Screen 1: type outside the path
    Screen 2:type inside the path
    Screen 3:type outside the shape
    Screen 4:type inside the shape
I am confused why I cannot flip the "type inside the path" whereas flipping inside and outside is possible for "type outside the path". Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Create text inside a path or shape in Photoshop CS6?

Is there a new way to fill a shape or path with text in CS6.
When I create the path I can put my text tool "over" the path & my cursor switches to a curved line through the cursor, but when I place the cursor "inside" the path it just goes back to regular cursor & if I click inside it just starts a new (regular) text layer.
In older versions as soon as I placed my text cursor inside the path it would switch to the text cursor inside parenthesis. And thus type inside the path. That doesn't happen anymore.
Is there a new way to do this?
    Thanks

Just figured it out. You apparently have to create a "shape" layer first.
That's strange because I don't find it necessary to create a Shape layer in CS6, and I don't think JJ needs to create a Shape.
I can create a closed path, Work Path for example, position Type Tool pointer inside path to see the dotted circle pointer, click on canvas then start typing.

Why won't Illustrator type on a path convert properly in CS5?

Path type on a circle is shifted and almost impossible to bring back to the

You need two paths.. one for the top text, and one for the bottom text. Adjusting the Type on a Path Options for the path witht he bottom text will allow you to move it to the outside and right reading.
    Not really!
1 Create your text on a path as you have already done
2 but type the word circle backward "elcriC"
3 select the backward type word circle with the text tool
    4. go to the character panel and type 180 in the character rotate input field and hit return
That should do it. That is what I did here and it is all on one path. You can also give it a baseline shift to get it to align better with the path itself.

  • Type on a path and pattern brush

    Hi,
As an exercise I'm recreating the logo for the Seattle Mariners. I've got it except for two things and would really appreciate help with:
1.) The type "Mariners" sloping downward in an arc. I was able to get the Seattle part using type on a path on a circle and typing on top. Question is, can I also type Mariners on the bottom of that path? I recall that not being the case. Am I supposed to draw another circle over the one that Seattle is typed on and then on that one type on the bottom? Regardless, please explain how to do it?
2.) For the stitching, am I supposed to create one stitch and then create a brush, draw a curve and then apply the brush to that curve? How do I space them out that way? If not, please explain.
    Thanks!

  • Type on a Path handle stuck

I created a line and used the Type on a Path tool to add text to the line. While I was adding the text I realized I needed the line to be longer. I pulled the handle to make the line longer, but it leaves the text path the shorter length. I grabbed the text path handle to make it the same length as the line, but it won't expand. I can make the path shorter, but not longer. It's acting as if it doesn't realize the line got longer and so it stops at the original line length's end point. Is there a setting that is causing this issue or just a bug? Usually when this happens I end up making a new path and pasting the text onto it because I can't figure out what's going on.
    Mac OSX 10.5.4
    InDesign CS3 5.0.4

I don't seem to be able to reproduce the problem. It's often easier, I find, to manipulat type on a path using the direct select tool.
You might want to try replacing your preferences.

  • Type on a path error msg

I'm trying to type on a path that started out as a letter and I've now converted to outlines, yet it's telling me "you must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text along a path" when I try.
Why is that happening? What can I do to resolve the problem? Thanks.

    Hi
    Try this:
Make a copy of your letter-shape to the clipboard (you'll need it later)
    Ungroup (shift-cmd-G/shift-ctrl-G)
Right-clcik and select "Release Compound Path"
Add your text to the path (which should vanish)
Paste in front the original letter-shape

  • Type on a path won't export

I've added type on a path around a circular EPS object. I have used two paths and grouped them with the EPS. Exporting
to PDF the EPS is there, but the text isn't.
The text is coloured with a pick up from a graphic on the page. I have tried exporting again with the text coloured
black, and the grouped objects ungrouped. Still no joy.
Export preset is Pass for Press V6 (essentially PDF/X-1a:2001). I have toggled the Create Tagged PDF option to no
effect. InDesign previews show the text to be there.I have ensured the text is above the EPS in the stack order, and
also moved it to a layer above.
    Any ideas?
    CS3. XPSP3.
    k

No, it's well behaved now. I grouped and ungrouped with no problems. I dragged on to the page a copy of the type and EPS
I had put in a library before I got the file fixed, and it still exported properly. And I have edited the text by
changing its tracking. And again, it's behaving itself.
All I can put it down to is the amount of fiddling I had to do when setting the type on the path originally to get it
looking right. Somewhere along the line I guess I caused a corruption that the INX transition removed.

  • Type on a Path grayed out in CS3

I am new to Illustrator, following Help to run type around a circle. It tells me to select the type object and then select "Type on a Path," however, that option is mysteriously grayed out. What might I be doing wrong. Please help!
    thanks!

Back up a few topics to the one titled "Entering Text." Read the subtopic, "Enter Text Along A Path."
In the Help area to which you are referring, where the instructions say to "select the type object," it means for you to select not just an *ordinary* type object, but a path that already has text attached to it (what I call a pathType object, but which Illustrator calls a "Type on Path object"). In other words, it assumes you have already typed text along a path and is telling you to select that kind of text object.
If you select that type...uh...KIND of object, you will then find the Type On A Path menu selectable, and you'll be able to get to the orientation options.
    Start this way:
    1. Ellipse Tool: Draw an Ellipse.
    2. Type on a Path Tool: Click the edge of the ellipse and type characters.
    3. Type menu: Type On A Path...
    Don't worry. It's not you.
Illustrator has so-called "Point Type objects" and so-called "Area Type objects". But what one might expect to be referred to as "Path Type ojbects" are called "Type on Path objects". The Appearance Palette doesn't help. It labels all three as simply "Type".
AI's Javascript refers to them as "areaText", "pointText", and "pathText". But no one would know that, unless messing with Javascript.
The Document Info Palette--uh, no, that's a PANEL now--refers to them as "Point Type objects", "Area Type objects", and "Type on Path objects". But who would think to look there? And it only does that if you select Objects from its little hidden flyout menu. And who would think to do that?
There are, of course, not three, but SIX type tools. The regular one, the...uh..."Type Tool", can be used to create "Area Type objects" and "Type on Path objects" as well as "Point Type objects". So you don't really have to use the separate "Area Type Tool" and "Type on a Path Tool". If you click the edge of a closed path with the "Type Tool", you will create an "Area Type object"...unless you press Alt, in which case you will create a "Type on Path object". But if the path is open, clicking its edge with the "Type Tool" will create a "Type on Path object"...unless of course you press Alt, in which case it will create an "Area Type object".
    Confused yet? No?
Then perhaps it's time to take a look at the cleverly-named Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform command. Or the Pathfinder menu commands which are not to be confused with the identically-named Pathfinder Panel buttons which don't do exactly the same things, or the Shape Modes which also reside in the Pathfinder Panel.
You'll also find three cutting tools, none of which work right, and a Page Tool that does not manipulate pages. Illustrator doesn't have any pages; it has an Artboard. The Page Tool doesn't move the Artboard, either; it moves the printing tiles.
Before quitting for the evening, be sure to kneel beside your computer, press your palms together and, solemnly rotating to face the twelve signs of the zodiac, recite these twelve words twelve times out-loud in a slow rythmic monotone: "Strokes and Fills are not Attributes but Appearances but Appearances have Attributes."
    Welcome to Illustrator. ;-)

  • Create Indesign book from paths in an excel sheet

    Hello All
I have started to learn some scripting, and want to know if it is possible to read information from Excel sheet? In this case it is paths to Ind files.
Today we are working with several documents which we compile into a book, this to create custom-made manuals for our customers. The script I'm looking for or will try to create will use these paths from the excel sheet to compile an Indesign book.
Any tips where I can find information about similar tasks.
    Please respond

    Thanks for your advices.
So if I understood it right it is impossible for Java or VB through Indesign to access information located within sheets in an Excel document. That is too bad.
We don't have the possibility to convert the .xls to for example .csv, becouse of .csv does not support more than one sheet. An SQL database could be a possible solution, but this shouldn’t either work?
What I don’t really understand is why you can merge information from an excel sheet into an Indesign page, but not collect strings from an excel sheet when running a script.

    Hi Phuc,
Could you please validate, that the database TST is located in driver H: ?
If the database is there, you find a directory with the name of your instance under the H: drive, inside this directory, you must find a NODE0000 directory and finally inside the NODE0000 directory there must be a SQL0000? directory, where ? is a number.
You get your instance name from the environment variable DB2INSTANCE or simply by the execution of:
    db2 get instance
If there is no SQL0000? directory at all, this means the database is located somewhere else.
If there is SQL0000? directory in that drive, you can perform the following:
db2 CATALOG DB TST AS TST ON H:
And provide the error message, if any.
    Hope this helps
    Best regards, Edgardo
