Creating U3D files

Can I create a standalone U3D file with Acrobat 3D? I realize that I can make a pdf with a U3D file in it, but I just want to create U3D files so I can insert them into an existing pdf.
Thanks!
Ari

Hi Ariana
If you like also to add some animations to your 3d scene I suggest the following tool: http://www.instructor3d.com
With that tool you can directly export 3d content into a PDF file including animations without having to do any javascripting or similar!

  • "Manually" creating U3D files to import into Acrobat XI

    Has anyone here ever successfully tried to "manually" create a U3D file and open it in a Acrobat XI to save it as a PDF file?
    I am currently coding an U3D export filter for our self-developed CAD application. The resulting files (containing simple polygon meshes) can be opened and displayed by a commercial U3D viewer (SAP Visual Enterprise Viewer 7.0), but Acrobat X and Acrobat XI cannot open them. They only display useless standard "Unable to open" message.
    Sample U3D files from the web open correctly in Acrobat XI although I fail to see any relevant difference when comparing them to the files my filter creates.
    Our U3D files only feature a default view and a few, simple polygon meshes created using CLOD Mesh Declaration and CLOS Base Mesh Continuation. Everything is correctly contained in modifier chains. The file does not use compression.
    I checked the "U3D Supported Elements" documents from Adobe and I'm sure to have met all conditions therein.
    Any help or tip would be very much appreciated because I am out of ideas what to try...
    Best regards

    For an illustration of my problem, here is a most simple file that I created:
    http://www.cad6.com/archive/Merge1.u3d
    This file opens correctly in SAP Visual Enterprise Viewer 7.0, but not in Acrobat XI Pro. A similiar file destilled from a sample file found on the web, however, works:
    http://www.cad6.com/archive/Merge2.u3d
    The only difference I can see is that is uses compression and a CLOD Progressive Mesh Continuation instead of a CLOD Base Mesh Continuation. But according to the latest version of "U3D Supported Elements", this should not make any difference.
    Any idea why Merge1.u3d does not open? Please?!

  • Problem with importation of Uniplot .u3d file to Adobe Acrobat X Pro

    Hello everyone,
    I am trying to import .u3d files created with Uniplot R2015 to Adobe Acrobat X Pro. My Operation System is Win 7 64 bit. My procedure so far was: Tools -> Multimedia -> 3D. Than I Choose the .u3d file but there is always the same error message:
    "An error occured while analyzing 3D-Data" (Translated  into english). The graphic window is Grey and there is nothing but the coordinate System.
    Has anybody ever tried to Import .u3d files from Uniplot to Adobe Acrobat X Pro or has an idea what might be wrong with the created .u3d files ?
    I can give you the u3d-file via E-Mail if send your address.
    Thank you in advance for your help

    Hello Dave
    the Problem affects all Uniplot 3d Files. I start with an Excel or .txt file with 3 columns and uniplot creates an engine diagram similar to this one: http://www.uniplot.de/documents/de/_images/Uni_BSP7-2.png
    Uniplot can Export this as a .u3d but it can not be opened with Adobe. Then I tried to open the .txt.file with MeshLab. I can see the correct Points (which Uniplot uses to create the engine diagram) but of course they are not connected. If i Export those Points in MeshLab as a .u3d file, Adobe can not work with it.
    I do not know how to deal with this Problem. Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance for your help

  • Creating U3D or PRC files myself

    Hi, I am interested to hear of any (preferably open source) software libraries, useable on Linux / MacOS, that can be used to create U3D or PRC files.
    Basically our content creation flow is as follows:
    * Scientist writes S2PLOT (http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/s2plot) program.
    * Scientist runs program and saves geometry as VRML
    * Scientist runs Acrobat 3D and imports VRML as PRC
    * Scientist inserts 3-d figure in paper
    We would like to modify this to look more like:
    * Scientist writes S2PLOT program.
    * Scientist runs program and saves geometry as U3D or PRC
    * Scientist runs pdflatex, using movie15.sty to insert the U3D (or PRC) model as a figure in their paper
    The latter flow is much preferred as the scientists don't need:
    * Acrobat 3D software (at sometimes considerable cost)
    * A MS Windows machine
    and the journal publishers can be provided with a self-contained journal article that can be processed by LaTeX / pdflatex. Additionally, the scientists can modify their text, and re-run LaTeX and not have to go back in to manually insert the 3-d figures etc.
    I would love to hear from anyone who knows of software tools that can help us realise the second, preferred data flow for our 3-d models in science.

  • Why can't I import the u3d file as a view onto my pdf document?

    After searching the web I finally found the instructions on how to import a 3d view onto a PDF document using Acrobat 7 Pro.
    I created the .u3d file and clicked on the TOOLS menu, then ADVANCE EDITING and then 3D Tool. I highlighted an area where I want the 3d view to be and the ADD 3D content window shows up. I then brouse to select my .U3D file and click the OK button. But nothing happens, why? Maybe I need to install more options? Does anyone know?

  • How to edit u3d files

    Hello,
    I have made some basic u3d files from Solid Edge models using Acrobat 3d Toolkit. These models should now be combined to create other models (for example, some of them represent pipings that have to be connected in different ways). I don't want to do all these combinations in Solid Edge and then convert them in u3d because the possible combinations are about 10000. All 10000 resulting u3d files should be then placed in different pdf files. Is there a way to combine the basic u3d files programmatically? I'm a Java programmer, so it would be great for me to find a way to create a Java program that manipulates the basic u3d files to create all the 10000 combinations. Is there a Java lib that manipulates u3d files? Is there another way to do this work?
    Thank you

    If you are looking for code, there is a SourceForge project - in C++.
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/u3d/
    Note, one 'hack' to make life easier is to make a simple U3D with one pipe, save that and then embed it in the Java you are writing as two hard coded pieces of data to write. One for before all your new meshes, and one for the end of the file after all the new meshes you are adding. It will already contain all the materials, lights etc so you just have to add meshes to it. Only thing to remember is to fix the file length and any surrounding block lengths once you know how long all the extra data you add is. U3D is pretty much blocks within blocks, where each block minimally has a type, length, and unique name to identify.

  • How to populate a table instaed of creating a file

    Hello Everybody,
    I have been thinking if any of you has ever done simmilar thing..
    I have a crontab task that runs a script that gathers some space statistics each month from couple of servers..and sends an output to a file..
    how to redirect that output so it populates certain table in the database?
    can you recomend best approach?
    thanks a lot,
    agat81

    The easiest way would be to create your file in a way that it will look like
    insert into your_table_name values (bla, 1,2 ,3);
    insert into your_table_name values (blub, 4,5 ,6);
    commit;
    Then execute the script with sqlplus from cron.

  • Can't create a file using fm 'File_Get_Name'

    hi gurus,
    Can you please help me with this issue. There's a program that have to create a file using the said fm. It was working before when it was set in OS NT. But when the settings and codes have been changed to UNIX, the program was able to generate the program. But the file doesn't exist. It seems it  doesn't create a file in that server.
    What else do I need to check?
    Points will be rewarded. Thanks
    Here's the code for your reference:
    CALL FUNCTION 'FILE_GET_NAME'
           EXPORTING
    *         CLIENT                  = SY-MANDT
                logical_filename        = 'Z_SYSBRIDGE'
             OPERATING_SYSTEM        = SY-OPSYS
    *         PARAMETER_1             = ' '
    *         PARAMETER_2             = ' '
    *         USE_PRESENTATION_SERVER = ' '
    *         WITH_FILE_EXTENSION     = ' '
    *         USE_BUFFER              = ' '
           IMPORTING
    *         emergency_flag          =
    *         file_format             =
                file_name               = ltfile-out_path
           EXCEPTIONS
                file_not_found          = 1
                OTHERS                  = 2.

    Hi Maui,
    Did you check SM69, where the code that ties to this FM creates a file after it execute your FM...
    SM69 are os commands that does UNIX execution or other OS commands...
    or maybe you have missed another FM like FM 'SXPG_OS_COMMAND' or of some sort.
    Thanks

  • Crystal Server 2013: How to troubleshoot "Can not create temp file---- Error code:-2147215357"

    We have a Java7 web app, which generate PDF report by calling Crystal Server 2013 SP4.
    The app is being deployed on many different servers. We sometimes got the error below when generating report:

    at com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.PrintOutputController.export(PrintOutputController.java:113)
    Problem is, this seems to be  a pretty generic exception. It could be caused by many different reasons.
    e.g. network connection problem, wrong DB login, wrong folder path, lack of folder access right, etc.
    Each time we could only guess what's wrong.
    We are running into it again, and this time everything seems correctly configured so far.
    We wonder if there are more info we can get to troubleshoot? For example, any log file of Crystal Server we should look into? Or does Crystal Server has debug mode which prints more details to tell us what goes wrong?

    Hi Henry,

    Apply trace on RAS server and check what you find in RAS logs.
    Check whether you can see timeout error is RAS logs. Usually if connection is lost and the RAS server no more have the session to write to the temp directory, we do see these errors.
    Also, does the account that runs RAS have permissions to create a file in RAS's default temp directory? Are you getting any out of memory or out of disk space exceptions on App server or RAS, tracing RAS server is the way to move forward.

    How to configure tracing, and where are RAS logs? Is it configured in CMC --> Servers --> Crystal Report Services?

    Hi,
    We face the same problem with some BI4 reports.
    The same report works well with the "Crystal Reports Viewers API", as used in Infoview, but not with the "Report Application Server (RAS) API".
    This error appears after some time working on a report. If we reproduce the same report, but from zero, no problem.

  • After upgrade to CF9, CFIMAGE "Unable to create temporary file" error

    We recently upgraded from CF8 to CF9 Enterprise.  I'm getting an "Unable to create temporary file" error on
    my CFIMAGE resize calls.  We use sandbox security.  I assume I need to grant write access to whatever folder CF uses for temp files, but which folder is it?   The same code (and sandbox settings) ran fine in CF8....
    Note, if I attempt to add C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\SERVER-INF\temp to the sandbox for this particular app, CF crashes on all requests across all apps on the server with a:
    Security: The requested template has been denied access to C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfclasses\cfapp2ecfc1510154633.c lass.
    The following is the internal exception message: access denied (java.io.FilePermission C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfclasses\cfapp2ecfc1510154633.c lass read)
    ColdFusion cannot determine the line of the template that caused this error. This is often caused by an error in the exception handling subsystem.
    I need to restart CF to get everything working again.

    Another update.   Had a problem with a sandboxed CF9 site doing a simple CFIMAGE READ to a memory variable.  Got an "Unable to create temporary file" error.
    Inserted the following code in the file upload page:
    <cfscript>
    writeoutput("Temp Dir : " & createobject("java","java.lang.System").getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") );
    </cfscript>
    ... and it reveals the temp directory as C:\WINDOWS\TEMP.  Added that to the sandbox, and the CFIMAGE READ is working properly now.
    Note this seems inconsistent with CFIMAGE RESIZE behavior which appears to use the CF GetTempDirectory() value, which in my case is C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\SERVER-INF\temp\cfusion-war-tmp\

    You have to change registry settings by going through REGEDIT. Under hkey_local_machine/software/oracle/<oracle home>, look for variable REPORTS_TMP. Change value for this, for example c:\windows\temp or something like that where you want oracle reports to create temp files.
