Creating Vertical text in horizontal position ... ??

Hi
I am tring to print text onto address labels in a vertical orientaion (for final use). I have a large CD collection and I am trying to print headings for plastic cards that have a small tab that sticks out. I found small address labels to be the perfect size to stick on. However, I will be appling the labels vertically.
Pages allows you to take horizontal text and rotate it, BUT the letters are NOT stacked on top of each other, you just end up with diagnol or sideways rotated text.
WordArt in MS Word allows you to orient the text the way I want, but I was hoping for an easier solution in Pages - as the resizing in wordart is cumbersome and fixed to varies intervalls, you cannot enter specific number sizes.
I hope I was decribing this clearly.
Thanks AL

You can achieve the effect you want by creating a text box (it should be set for Moves With Text and Wrap should be off). Type your text with a return after each letter and then narrow the box to fit the vertical text. Next, in the Text Inspector center the text. Go to the Metrics inspector and type "90" in the Angle box at the bottom.
You should be able to copy and paste this to your template.

No, that would probably be the orientation lock. Check up by the battery icon and see if you have an icon with a small lock and a circular arrow. Either way, go to the Control Center, swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Look at the top row of icons and the orientation lock is the last one on the right. White is on, black is off. Just turn it off and you should be alright. Understand there are some apps that do not change into the landscape mode from portrait.

  • Creating vertical text box form field in Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro

I'm very new to AAPro10.  I've serched the forums and internet and couldn't find out how (or if it is possible) to do what I want to do.
I started with a premade pdf form with LOTS of potential form fields. I used the wizard to create a form.  It did fairly well, but  I'd like to replace a column of x number of boxes with a single form field that when i type into it, will orient the text vertically as the data will apply to all the rows in that column.
I've read things that say I can change the orientation of the form field in properties, but when i go to properties, none of the options (that I can find) allow it.
Thanks so much for the help.

Thank you so much.  I feel like such a dunce... it was staring me in the face for the last 3 hours.
    Thanks again!

  • Vertical text in Chart boxes

I want to make my chart columns narrower. To do this I need to re-arrange existing text from horizontal to vertical. I have followed Inspector
instructions and cannot find button for vertical allignment.

In Pages this a a chart
Your images shows a table with text. The Help text is about alignement of text and has nothing to do with vertikal text. The images shows text aligned vertically on the left.
To create vertical text yo have to use text boxes like I did for this example image. The text on the left is rotated and the text to the right has its box very tall and narrow.

    Hi,

Object you created (textFrame, page, text) have properties to set or methods to execute.
You could find them all inside above Jongware's Kingdom of Knowledge.
    In example:
to set your text size use:
    myTextFrame.texts[0].pointSize = 12;

My keypad keeps disappearing when using google -- but only in the horizontal position.   Vertically, it works fine.  I have powered off and then back on.  I have checked that Safari instant is on, and I have cleared Safari cache.  Nothing has worked so far.

Okay -- it fixed itself.  Without any intervention, after all else had failed, and I was willing to live evermore with vertical searches.  If only everything else in my house mysteriously recovered from the broken state.
Have no idea what was/is going on with the disappearing keypad.

  • Vertical Text in PowerPoint saved as a PDF

I just created a document in PowerPoint with vertical text.  When I saved the document, some of the vertical text and rotated back to horizontal changing the format of my document. Is there a way to save a PowerPoint document as PDF without changing the vertical text.

I think you really need to ask that in a Microsoft Office forum.

  • Vertical Text in Columns

I've got 3 columns of text and I need one of them to have its text to go vertically down the page.
Is it possible to rotate the text around somehow so it's not always typed out horizontally?

    Stuart,
You can use Jim's method if what you want is for your text to read sideways. If that's what you want, great. If what you want is for your text to be stacked ...
    L
    I
    K
    E
    T
    H
    I
    S ...
then you need to create a text box that's about one character wide. After you type your first character, the next one should wrap to the second line, and so on. That will give you a stacked -- not sideways- effect.

  • How to type vertical text

In numbers, I've merged cells vertically in hopes of typing a word vertically but I can't figure out how to do it.  It's probably an easy process but I can't figure it out. Thanks for the help.

    Hi Tyson,
    Here are some examples.
A1 contains vertical text. It can be created by making the column narrow enough to accept only a single character width, selecting the cell, and checking the Wrap checkbox in the Format bar. An alternate method that;s more trouble, but also more reliable is to insert a return character after each letter (including one on the empty line between words). Press option-return to insert a return into a cell. (Hint: Enter the first letter, then enter an option-return for each letter and space you want in the cell. Then go back and enter the letters, pressing the down arrow after each to go to the next line.)
Numbers does not support rotated text in table cells. Cells B1, C1 and D1 are empty. The rotated text is placed in three text boxes, one for each cell. These are rotated (90° for B1, 75° for each of the others), then placed in front of the appropriate cell.
E1 contains wrapped text. The wrapping in this case is determined by the width of the cell and the text itself, but you can also control what appears on each line by using returns (option-return) within the text. The vertical alignment button on the Format bar was also used here to vertically center the text in the cell.
Regarding "I've merged cells vertically...," I'd recommend against merging cells where you can avoid it. Merging cells vertically or horizontally has consequences with sorting the table (and I think, other issues as well). Best to leave it undone until the issues are sorted out.

    Barry

  • Horizontal position of table

I am trying to set the horizontal position of a table while in Word Processing mode.
In the Inspector/Wrap tab I am selecting "Inline" and then it allows you to choose from Left- Centre- or Right-justified on the page. The problem is that none of these options align with the body text.
You can do this if the table is set to "Floating" but this then doesn't maintain vertical position with the text.
Is there an easy answer or is this a Pages09 foible we must live with (at least until the next Stevenote/iWork11 announcement).

If it is inline, then it is just like a big fat character.
So long as it has room to fit in the line you can treat it as such, with margin indents and tabs.
I hope you are using styles for your text, in which case apply the same text style to the paragraph that contains the table as for your other text, just making sure to use unit line spacing to allow for the exceptional height of the table. If you need to position the table away from the rest of the text, use before and after spacing.

  • How to create a text object at runtime?

    Hi,
I am using crystal reports for visual studio 2010 and using c# to programming.
I need to create  a text object in a specific section like section 2. and also I need to control the text object's position and text.
I tried to move a object like:
    reportDocument1.ReportDefinition.Sections[j].ReportObjects<i>.Left = 0x8760;
but object's position doesn't change at all.
How can I do these (create a text object and change a object postion)?
    Thanks

    Hi Don,
    Thank you.
I have downloaded a RAS ( report application Server ) sample.
The sample uses the Business Objects Enterprise XI release 2. I am using win 7 and crystal reports for vs2010. Can I use this version of crystal reports to create  a text object at runtime? If not, what is the lowest version I have to purchase to achieve what I want?
Basicly I need following capabilities at runtime:
    1) craete text objects, line objects, image objects.
    2) change text object, line object and image object positions, sizes, values of text object. If can I like to be able to change font as well.
    3) supress objects, sections.
    4) change section's height
