Creating video podcast -- movie format requirements

I have QTPro and have used
Export--->Movie to iPod
in order to make the flie podcast-ready. The only problem is that the resultant file is twice the size of the original.
I'm wondering if these specs will also work for a podcast:
Format:
AAC, Mono, 22.050 kHz
H.263, 300 x 225, Millions
FPS:
14.56
Data Rate:
380.49
Size:
300 x 225
Unfortunately, I do not have a v iPod to test on. Does anyone know off-hand if a .mov file with the above specs will work for a podcast?
Thanks!

Hi mmusic, welcome to the discussions!
As you discovered, the default iPod export settings make huge files.
Instead of exporting as .mov, use .mp4 and the H.264 setting, which gives the best quality of video.
BUT, you do need to do something which will make it work on the video iPod, and that's set it to "Baseline." Where is baseline? It's almost hidden in QTPro.
The "Baseline" setting can only be found by doing the following:
Use the Movie to MPEG-4 setting
File format: MP4
Video format: H.264
This will give a "Video Option" button. Change to "Baseline" only
That's the key. After that, any settings can be used, such as data rate, frame rate, etc.
Here's what we use. You can modify to your own liking. We keep our data rate way down in order to make small file sizes.
Do as above.
(Under the Video Options button) Restrict Profile to Baseline
Encoding mode: Best quality (multi-pass)
Video format: H.264
Data rate: 75 kbps
Optimized for download
Image size 320x240 QVGA
Frame Rate: 15fps
Key frame automatic
Audio: AAC-LC
Data rate: 48
Channels: Mono
Output Sample rate: 44.100
Encoding Quality: Best
You can change any of the settings as long as you have the "Baseline" profile checked.
Hope this answers your question.

I am trying to backup video in MOV format to CD - when trying to view from CD, there is no audio or video.  Thoughts?

The .mov files are in iPhoto.  I am following the recommended process:
Create a CD or DVD by exporting
In iPhoto, select the photos, albums, or video clips you want to burn to a disc.
    Choose File > Export.
In the Export Photos window, click File Export, and then select your options. For best results, choose JPEG, Maximum, and Full Size. For more information, see Export a photo.
When you’re ready, click Export, and export the photos to a folder on your computer.
When the export is finished, quit iPhoto.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock, and then insert a CD-RW disc or a blank CD-R or DVD-R disc into your drive.
Drag the folder that contains your exported photos to the disc’s icon.
When the files have been copied, choose File > Burn Disc, and then click Burn.

I Have heard that Garage band can create video podcast. Is there some tutorial on how to create them?

  • Play more than 1 video/podcast/movie at a time

How can I use Front Row to play a whole folder of movies at a time?
I have a whole bunch of short films and video podcasts & wanna play one-after-another in Front Row. I cannot seem to get Front Row to do this for me. I wanna just sit back and watch them all, without selecting the next one every 2 to 5 minutes.
Can you do this is Front Row?
    John from Alaska

This can't be done with Front Row right now. Because the 3rd & 4th generation iPod nanos support "video playlists", there's been hope that some day Front Row will also support a video playlist. But, so far we haven't seen that option yet. You can create a video playlist in iTunes and it will play through directly from iTunes, however. You'll have to add your movies to iTunes to use this option...

  • Video PodCast - .mov or .m4v

Is there a specific reason to go one format or the other? I have downloaded some video podcasts and it started off using .mov and moved to .m4v.
Exactly what is .m4v? Is it the same as mp4? but with apple's H.261???
    what's the difference in H.261, 263, 264?

    what's the difference in H.261, 263, 264?
Each H.26x Codec is a different Codec. The H.263 video codec was designed for low-latency video conferencing applications (such as the first iChat A/V). H.264 is a codec for every purpose (from 3G to HD and everything in between (from 40 Kbps to upwards of 10 Mbps))

    Sorry... I misunderstood before.
I can't see a way to do this automatically, but you can do a Command + ˃

  • Photoshop CS6 export video to MOV format

I have a few MOV format videos that I need to rotate and re-save with PS CS6.  I've never tried video editing with Photoshop, and this must be the most basic of basic starts in my next career as a film producer.  I assume I just go to Image > Image Rotation as one does with image files?  Then when I export the video, and select QuickTime MOV format, the resulting file does not actually have any video in it -- only audio.  And despite having no video apparently, the file size is huuuge.
So what gives?  Am I doing something wrong?  I have QuickTime viewer installed, but do not have a licence for QuickTime full version.  Is that it?
Shall I just export to mp4 and be done with it?  I would prefer to be consistent... so that I have all MOV files (I won't have to rotate / edit all video files, only some).
    Thanks,
    Mike

I have QuickTime viewer installed, but do not have a licence for QuickTime full version.  Is that it?
Apple has two QuickTime products - QT Player (free), and QT Pro (~ US $29). The installation is for both versions, but with the Pro purchase, you can unlock some additional features, like the ability to do rudimentary editing, and more Export options. I have been told that the Pro version has some additional CODEC's, that are unlocked, but I have my suspicions. However, as I have had the Pro versions on all computers from about 7.1, I cannot even check that out.
Historically, if one has purchased Pro, and used the unlock feature with the S/N, then all point upgrades carry though, so if you had 7.5.5 Pro, and updated that to 7.8, you would still have Pro. Again historically, if they went to version 8, then one would need to purchase another Pro license. Not sure how this will work, when the version 8 does hit for the PC. We will just have to wait and see.
Now, the QT Animation CODEC is a good one, that should work (files WILL be large), and that is what I receive from my contract 3D artists, to use in my Premiere Pro Projects. I would think that should work fine, but you are having issues. As a test, try the PNG (might be called Photo PNG?), and see if you do get your Video. That is also a good choice of CODEC.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • My ole' Premiere program...trying to convert created video into supported format for youtube...

I have the Adobe Premiere 3.0 program...i know, i know...pretty ancient. But hey, it works for the time being...lo. My problem is, i keep creating videos from this program, and am unable to convert it into the format supported by Youtube...HEEELLLPPP!!! The format i am saving it in is, [.prel]. the formats acceptable are; MPE4 format [Divx, Xvid, or SQV3 instead of h. 264] at 640x480 resolution with MP3audio [64k momo]
After reading those stereo instructions, my question is....hoe do I convert an already designed video to fit these specs?
Thanks in advance for your assistance, and I love you all.

    Thanks Hunt, hun.
Been trying to figure this out for some time now. I am not that knowledgeable in the formats for videos being uploaded to different sites, but i am pretty good at creating videos. I am saving them in the format [.prel], and have no iea as to how to convert the format from - .prel, to {any other format}. I am looking on the program, and see no spot for conversion. i also have a program called prism video converter, which was unable to convert the format as wel, due to the fact that they dont support beginning formats of -.prel, as well. So i am within a rock a very very hard place right now. Is there a different program which i could install, which would allow me to convert the premiere videos i have created into another format? i recently downloaded the trial version of premiere pro. I hope this program allows me to take the saved project, and convert it into a usable format. Thanks again for all your assistance hun. Really appreesh it.

  • Creating Video Podcasts for download by clients

    Hi there,
I'm new to ipods & have recently bought an ipod touch. Now as I look through itunes & podcasts, I notice people creating photo slideshows, etc for clients to be able to download as podcasts from within itunes.
Could someone point me in the direction of instructions/how-to's for creating a slideshow podcast, then on making it downloadable in itunes for my clients?
    Thanks in advance

  • I exported a video in .MOV format at 1920x1080p 29.97fps and even though the video file still says it has the dimensions of 1920x1080, it plays back in squished, standard definition. Why is it doing that?

I don't understand why the video playback is squishing when the .mov file's dimensions are the right aspect ratio. When I exported with the codec .h264, the video played back the way it was supposed to, with HD/16:9 dimensions. Why is the .mov file not exporting/playing back properly?

  • Software for creating video podcasts on iTunes

I have been playing around with the idea of offering FREE screencasts for Freeway Pro software to show people how to do some cool things. Once I have all my videos made, I would like to know if there is any great software out there which allow me to publish them so they can be made available within the iTunes podcast area.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes for Windows 11.0.4: "iTunes has stopped working" error messages when playing videos, video podcasts, movies and TV shows

    Title says it all.
I've had this issue on this machine for some time but not forever. Music playback is fine but anything video related freezes the program. When I launch the program in safe mode it works though. Clearly some add-on or file is causing it to foul up.
Before anyone suggests this: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4221 <-- I've tried it to no avail so please don't repost
Anyways this is really annoying, please help.
    Thanks
P.S. I know my way around the computer so no need to cripple your explaination

    Hello Appropriator,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines further suggestions for troubleshooting video playback. While you have already completed one of the steps, there are a few more that you can try:
Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718
    Additional Information
Some customers using computers containing NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA (SATA) controllers may experience unexpected behavior when playing videos in iTunes on Windows from a SATA hard drive. iTunes may unexpectedly quit or become unresponsive or the computer may unexpectedly reboot or show a blue screen. Standard IDE hard disks are unaffected by this issue. If your computer contains a standard IDE hard disk, you can copy your video files to that disk and play those copies of the files in iTunes or QuickTime Player.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
