Creating website with Dreamweaver

Hello,
I have dreamweaver CS3 (I know it's old but I have an original license so I need to keep using it) and I usually update my websites using the FTP feature of Dreamweaver. It's great cause I can edit my website and do not need to commit it all the times I change a file.
Said that, today I openen my Dreaweaver and when it commits the changes it shows the error:
Binary mode on sitepor500.com.br does not support the file "criacao-site.css"
I am editing CSS files and it does not upload! My FTP is working normal, there was no major changes in the last days. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Please help! adding a search to website with Dreamweaver

    confused;
    Hi all. i need some help. Im in the process of creating my
    website on Dreamweaver CS3. I would like to have a "search" option
    on my site.....
    I will explain my situation.....stay with me!.......
    My website is basically a dating website. So, i need a sercg
    function so members can SEARCH for people in there area...
    Heres an example. of the search I need....
    LOOKING FOR -- MALE OR FEMALE (select box for male or female)
    AREA - North West, north east, midlands, etc etc (drop down
    box)
    PROXIMITY - 5mile, 10 mile, 25 mile etc (drop down box)
    AGE - 18-25, 25-30, 30-45 etc (drop down box)
    OKay...so i guess you have the idea of what im talking
    about...i hope..... I KNOW how to set the table up for the above
    (using the FORMS tab on dreameaver)
    What I do need to know is - How do i program my website to
    return the correct results.
    example...... Mr. Smith is looking for a women, within 5miles
    of his postcode. he clicks search....HOW DO I GET THE WEBSITE TO
    RETURN HIS REQUESTS. Do i need to buy some sort of software???
    Hope you can help!!!!
    Jemma xxxxxxxxxx

    I'm afraid that in order to get reasonable search results for
    a dating type service, you are going need to do some programming.
    This means that along with solid html and css, you need to be adept
    at server side script programming and SQL programming. Have you
    already create the database? What kind of database design
    experience do you have? Seems like you are building a rather
    complex site and without the proper skills you will be facing a
    rather steep learning curve. You may want to think about hiring an
    experienced programmer if you want to get a quality site going in a
    reasonable amount of time.
    I don't know of any off-the-shelf packages out there that may
    exist for a dating type service so you may want to search around a
    bit.

  • Help, problem with merging expressions website with dreamweaver

    hello,
    I am hoping you guys have some patience with this question. We created a website with frontpage and it's hosted on an ftp server and we use ftp open and edit the site. My question is, how can I open, work, and edit my site, since it is not even saved on my local hard drive but on the ftp servers of the webhosts.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    I can think of two ways and I am sure there must be many other ways to do what you want to do.
    1) You could download the entire site using FTP program like WS-FTP, FileZilla and others.  You can point this downloaded folder into your DW when you are defining a new site;
    2) The second method is to define a new site in DW and then import a site using DW's own FTP technology;  this will allow you to download your entire site from your host.
    There are also other tools like WinHTTrack etc that can download the entire site on to your desktop.
    The aim is to download everything on to your desktop before doing any editing.
    Hope this gives you a start.

  • Create website with IDCS3 and SiteGrinder?

    Media Lab's SiteGrinder is an amazing product for easily converting Photoshop designs into working websites without any knowledge of coding. Unfortunately, I have much more experience with InDesign than with Photoshop, but as it's possible to import InDesign files into Photoshop, I'm wondering if I can go this route with my InDesign designs, rather than learn how to use Photoshop more extensively. Has anyone here created a website with InDesign and SiteGrinder, with minimal Photoshop "intervention"?

    > Are you referring to everything crowding and overlapping when the text is enlarged? Isn't that a common problem with all sites?
    It's common -- far too common -- but not inevitable. It's bound to happen with SG, though, because they carve up the layout into fixed size chunks and then use absolute positioning, so there's no way for the containers to accommodate changes in font size except by crashing into each other, or growing scroll bars, which is only sometimes going to work. For the same reason -- starting with a single Photoshop image -- they can't identify headings or lists, so the pages aren't properly accessible to some assistive technology. If you don't care about accessibility, you should realize that this also means that they become hard or impossible for search engines to analyze, so people aren't going to find your site so easily.
    But I guess this discussion is a bit out of place on an InDesign forum. To get back to that, if you wanted to start in InDesign, the best thing to do is use XML export to get properly marked-up XHTML, and then lay it out with CSS. There's a good piece about doing this somewhere over on InDesign Secrets -- I don't have the exact URL to hand. But you would have to learn some CSS to do that. It seems that you are determined to go with SiteGrinder, though, so I can only recommend that you try things like changing the font size, and checking it with different browsers, so that you don't end up with something too awful. But if you do find the time to read, for example, Zeldman's book on Designing with Web Standards, you'll end up better at making sites than if you don't.

  • How to create a website with Dreamweaver and what is Hosting?

  • Create a website with dreamweaver tutorial video

    Dont waste time trying to learn. Get video tutorials from
    dreamweaver. Yeas you heard me right.

    Hi bugmenow,
    I disagree, video tutorials aren't always easy to use. You
    have to stop them all the time and if you don't want any sound (for
    example at your work) it isnt possible to use video tutorial. Next
    to that there aren't so many video tutorials as normal
    tutorials.

  • How to edit an existing muse created website with muse on a new computer?

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm pretty new hear and could use some help. I downloaded Muse back when it was still in beta and used it to create a website www.southernski.com      I really liked it's ease of use since i'm a newb at writing html and haven't gotten the hang of Dreamweaver. I need to update the site and make changes. The pc i was using before was running XP and the version of Muse then worked on it fine. But Muse has left XP behind and will not install the update on that machine and so I've installed a new version of Muse on a laptop with Windows 7. The files i used to create the website are on the pc that has failed and so I need to try and find out if it is possible to edit the existing site I have uploaded on a hosting site (not muse or adobe) and make the changes that are needed. Can someone please help me answer this question?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Sean

    Hello Sean,
    It is not possible to import the pages etc. from the hosting site to Muse for editing purposes. This is because Muse only opens files with the extension .muse (which is the extension for the muse website file that is created and saved in Muse). It is not possible to import .html files etc. in Muse for editing purposes, hence, you won't be able to edit your current website in it, however, if you are able to locate the .muse file that you created earlier (if you have a back up somewhere), you can simply copy that file in your new computer and open in it in Muse to start editing.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Creating forms with dreamweaver

    Hi i'm new to the forum.
    I need help with a certain aspect in creating forms.  The company I work for is running Dreamweaver MX 2004.  We have an online application form that we have create to collect data for people wishing to join our Club.  In one section of the form we ask for peoples vehicle details.  My question is when they choose what type of vehicle they own from the drop down menu I then want the next section of the form to expand to reveal a new section for them to be able to fill in their vehicle description such as Year, Make, Model etc.  We have 7 different vehicle types for them to choose from.  so depedning on which one you choose a different vehicle description will be revealed.
    Can anyone help me with this?  I have seen it done on other website such as insurance companies but I don't know if it can be done through dreamweaver.

    Let me try to answer this on a broader level.
    Prepeare your complete form and make the property visibility as hidden (or display style as none) for the fields you don't want to show.
    Now say you select any option out of vehicle description drop down, for example 'Sedan', then your drop down will have a javascript function call which will be fired onChange event ...something like  onchange=javascript:vehicletype(this.value)
    <select name="test" id="test" onchange="vehicletype()">
              <option value="sedan">Sedan</option>
    and hidden fields example:
    <input type="text" name="sss" id="sss"  style="visibility:hidden" />
    Now in the vehicletype() function check for the value passed.Based on that set the visibilty to visible  for the required form fields inside the function. Following is a small page to show you all. Just save this as a html page and then try.
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Stretched Background Image</title>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function vehicletype(type){
        if (type=='sedan'){
        alert(type);
        document.getElementById('sss').style.visibility='visible';
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="page-background">
          <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action="">
            <p>
              <label for="hhh"></label>
              <select name="hhh" id="hhh" onchange="javascript:vehicletype(this.value);">
                <option value="Select">---Select---</option>
                <option value="sedan">sedan</option>
                <option value="coupe">coupe</option>
              </select>
            </p>
            <p>
              <label for="sss"></label>
              <input type="text" name="sss" id="sss"  style="visibility:hidden" />
            </p>
          </form>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    Hope this gives you some idea of what I am tryint to convey.

  • Maintaining a website with Dreamweaver 8 vs. CS3

    Hi there!
    Please bear with me . . . I am squeaky new to Dreamweaver and
    website building in general.
    I have a website that I need to maintain that was created in
    Dreamweaver 8. I was planning on purchasing the newest version when
    the original developer of the website tells me that I should really
    use the Dreamweaver 8 version to avoid wonkiness and lots of
    cleaning up. My questions:
    1. Is this true? If so, where do I get an old version
    (Dreamweaver 8) from and how much does an old version cost?
    2. If it is true -- and I end up using CS3, what sort of
    errors/shifting/wonkiness can I expect and why does it happen
    (laymen terms please)? Will it cause a lot of extra work?
    Many thanks!

    I would say that if you make changes with Dw CS3 - it will
    still be ok
    in Dw8 - unless you use Spry - which isn't in Dw8.
    I still have Dw8 installed and sometimes use it on files
    created with
    Dw CS3 with no problems.

  • Creating website with 3rd party server using blogspot or wordpress's domain name?

    Hi all!
    I just wonder...
    I am now offered a free hosting service and I want to create my personal site with iWeb.
    Questions come:
    I don't really wish to buy a domain since the free service only last for half a year and I just want to try out blogging...
    Is it possible for me to use create a iWeb made site using blogspot or wordpress domain and 3rd party hosting service?
    Thanks in advance. Coz i really have no experience on this

    The short answer is no.  WordPress and Blogspot are two totally different things and are blogging systems and you can use these for free, but what you do is create a username and your blog is then pubished to WordPress servers etc., so your blog url is then http://username.wordpress.com.
    If you want to create a site with iWeb and avail yourself of free hosting and upload there, then you'll need to register a domain name.
    Wordpress, iWeb and Blogspot are totally different and the only way in which you can use both is to create your site in iWeb and then upload to the free hosting and just create a link from your iWeb site to your blog created with either WordPress or Blogspot.

  • How can i turn a photoshop file into a website with knowing code? can i upload Muse or DreamWeaver?

    How can i turn a photoshop file into a website with knowing code? can i upload Muse or DreamWeaver?
    I created a few images (pages for a site) on photoshop and want to turn them into HTML code for a website- Can i Just upload the file into one of these programs and make a file with the correct code imediatly?
    I was reading about using EDGE Reform but i did not understand if i can create the code with it, in the end it says it still needs to be sent to website developer after?

    You need to look at Dreamweaver as a code editor. You need to learn to create good, clean HTML code with style sheets to make websites with Dreamweaver.
    There are tutorials that will take you from a layered .PSD file to HTML. Here's a good one:
    http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/site-builds/from-psd-to-html-building-a-set-of-website-d esigns-step-by-step/
    Adobe's Muse is a semi-WYSIWYG website layout creator for small websites (1-5 pages). But there is no way you can go from a .PDS file to Muse, you have to start the site in Muse.
    I have seen a few Muse sites and they're OK, but there is some code that Muse creates that is kind of odd. If you want a good, clean website that will work for you or your business, Dreamweaver is the best choice. Alternatively, you could hire a pro.

  • How to create favicon in dreamweaver cs5 and upload to website

    I want to be able to create a favicon and upload to my website with dreamweaver. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Giselle

    Good info from Joey... be sure the image is saved as an actual .ico file, not just any small image (.gif, png, etc).
    But to clarify, the favicon does not need to be saved in the root folder, it can be anyplace you want, as long as you path it correctly. For example
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/video.html
    uses:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.citradingcards.com/lynnjohnson/images/favicon.ico">
    as you can see, it's a couple folder levels deep.
    Also, the favicon will display immediately after uploading to the server, it doesn't take days.... provided you use a browser that has never visited your site before!
    That's why many Web page designers post questions about the favicon not showing up on their browser... yet everyone else sees it.
    To get the favicon to show up immediately in your browser, you need to remove every trace of having visted your site... and in IE it's a little challenging. Clear the cache (Temp Internet Files folder), remove your site from Favorites, Bookmarks, and any other History stored in the browser.
    It's nice to be able to test and see the favicon as soon as it's uploaded and not have to wait a couple days to know if it works!
    Best of luck,
    Adninjastrator
