Creation of Asset subnumber

Hi,
I just want to know if an Asset main number has been created and depreciation has also been posted on it and now if a sub number is to be created within the same main number system wont allow changing the depreciation start date.
User requirement is to create a sub asset within the main asset whose depreciation has been posted with the depreciation start date field to be in changeable mode but here the system has grayed out the field..
If this is like this then what else can we do

Hi,
This can be done using screen layout. But, be aware that the change in Depn. start date makes the system re calculate the deprecition depending upon the other criteria.

No Field Copy during creation of assets Subnumber

Hello,
Is there any way to deactive the some field data during the Creation of Sub number when using the reference assets number.
I have already unchecked the copy field in Screen layout setting for Assets master data. But still the Capitalisation date and Ordinatory depreciation dates are copyed from the reference assets number.
I don't want to have the old value for the capitalisation date and ordinatory depreication strat date in the newly created Sub assets number.
kindly show the wayout of this issue.

Creation of Asset with Sub-number

Hi Gurus,
Would like to ask for your expert advice regarding the creation of Asset using Sub-numbers.
We have seversal assets where expenses and depreciation will be divided into different cost centers. We are planning to use asset subnumber for easier monitoring of related assets but we are a little bit undecided because we do not know if there are any disadvantages of using asset sub numbers.
Is it advisable to use asset sub-number? What are the things that we need to consider if in case we will use asset subnumber in creating our assets.

I tried to create an asset in AS01 and afterwards create subnumbers ( Subnumbers 1-3 ) for that asset in AS11. But it seems that I cannot edit the field of the assets with subnumbers. It copies the same data as that of the one created in AS01 ( subnumber 0 ).
I also tried to run depreciation in AFAB but only the main asset was depreciated. The sub assets were not depreciated.
Kindly advise the steps to correctly execute this.

SAP defines sub number as below:
Number, which in combination with the main asset number, uniquely identifies an asset in the system.
Using the asset sub-number makes it possible to represent complex fixed assets in the system.
The fixed asset is identified by the main asset number. Each individual part of the asset, or subsequent acquisitions, can be represented by a sub-number. You have to enter separate master data for each sub-number
However while you digest the definition, you need to check with your boss the scope of the AA.
AA is not a stand alone but is a integrated functionality with other SAP components.
Specific to sub numbers, try to fix one main asset under which possibility of assigning sub asset is probable.
Proceed with creation of seperate asset master records.

edit>WBS element>investment program>create fixed asset,
as of now we are creating assets thru as01 and creating distribution rule in project for wbs element and actual settlment document thru cj88.

Min amt to be set for creation of asset

Dear SAP Experts,
We have a requirment (for creation of asset minimum amount of 1000/- is required if the asset is having useful life if more than 1 year). That is the starting point of 1000/ to be set if the asset useful life is more that 1 year...Can this be possible in standard SAP ???
Eg: If any amt less than 1000 say 800 is posted to that asset then system should throw error....for all asset whose useful life is more that 1 year

Franky speaking this is process control... Your business should have a policy where in the request to create an asset is reviewed by Finance and approved only if the Value/usful life is as you mentioned
Though you can use Validation exit to check A useful life life of less than 1 yr not being entered in the Asset Master while creation, I would not recommend this.... The best way is "Discipline" for such things
For Amount also you can set up a validation in OB28 that If Doc Type = AA, the amount (DMBTR) should not be less than 1000

I want to delete an asset (for example 01) a after this I want to reuse that 01 subnumber when I want to recreate it (for the same master asset).

Hi,
I deleted that asset subnumber (1), and when I wanted to recreate it with AS11, I cannot create the same asset subnumber (1) it creates me asset subnumber (2). I need to create asset subnumber (1). How can I do it? I'm taking about asset subnumbers of the same master asset.

Archivation of asset subnumber object AM_ASSET

I want to archive few subnumbers of asset. For example I have asset P09.08.011 subnumber 0 which have subnumbers 1 - 21.
I want to archive asset subnumbers from 13 - 19. There is not amount in those subnumbers.
I searched web, and I found some guides e.g . Data archiving in FIAA

but when I tried to create write variant for archivation object AM_ASSET, I didn't found any possibility to enter asset subnumbers in archivation variant. I can only enter assets, but no subnumbers in test mode with archive file.

Can I somehow copy archivation object AM_ASSET and somenow change this copy for my purpose?
Please help me ...

What you could do is a development to expand the info-structure to include sub-numbers. I am not an expert in that; you may want to post something in the archiving forum under application lifecycle management.

Creation of Asset Master in Goods Receipt

Dear All,
Is there any possiblities to create Asset Master during Goods Receipt Process. The Scenarios is the user did not want to create Asset Code during or before creation of Purchaes Order and we need the system to create the Asset with Sub number in Goods Receipt.

Creation of asset in PO

Does anybody know if it is possible to add extra fields in the first screen of asset creation when this is opened from within the PO?
More specific: when creating a Purchase Order and the account assignment is set as Asset (multiple account assignment), the user has the option of creating a new asset. In this field a pop-up screen will appear with limited values to fill.
I would like to have the field "Capital investment order" on that same screen without having to push the "additional info" button which brings me tot the normal asset master data screen.
Does someone know if this is possible?

Problem with the creation of asset master record

Hi Gurus,
i am having problem in creation of a new asset master with the use of existing man asset number and different asset sub number. I am trying to create the asset in the same company code but different depriciation area, but the system is not allowing me to do that. Is there a setting in the SPRO by which I can allow the use of creation of the asset number by using the already existing asset number with the new asset sub number. This is actually happening in the system for one type of equipments but not for other.
Can any one tell me what settings are to be made to allow this for all containers.

Hi,
A sub asset master can be created with AS11 only.
You cannot create a asset sub number under a main asset number, in the case, where different set of dep areas needs to be maintained.
When you create a sub asset, all the dep areas will be copied to sub asset's master from main asset master. Since this set of dep areas cannot be different from main asset to sub asset.

Runtime Error during Creation of Asset (AS01)

Hello Everyone !
I have been trying to CREATE ASSET for a long time but unfortunatly land up on ..... RUNTIME ERROR. I used all the possible ways to get it solved but i am stuck. Error analysis says The ASSERT Condition was violated.

Please be aware of note 988238 which is a composite note with many erros in FI-AA when in ECC 6.0 It advices to:
"Implement the following notes or import at least Support Package 6 for the components EA-APPL and SAP_APPL (available as of October 2006)."
Check also note 949802.

Asset subnumber

Hi gurus,
I have an asset activated in 2001 which has a useful life of 5 months, 6 months.
Before this asset depreciated completely a subnumber was posted, with activation date july 2006.
On this asset the depreciation start was set as the depreciation start for the main number in 2001.
Why no depreciation is calculated on subnumber?

Hi Miroslav,
Your problem is probably caused by the depreciation key that you are using. Verify its configuration using T code AFAMA. As you stated in your blog the useful life has expired for the subnumber asset. The depreciation key you are using may not have a changeover method for posting depreciation after the useful life has expired (changeover method "5"). Therefore, it doesn't know what to do with the remaining depreciation. If a changeover method is defined after the expiration of the useful life, then verify when the next phase is told to take remaining depreciation (i.e. beginning of year). It may try to take it at the beginning of 2008. Verify by running a Asset History Sheet or Depreciation Simulation report for 2008.

Step-up assets (FMV - NBV) - Use of asset subnumber?

Hi all,
A question about step-up assets. Our client has recently acquired another company. The newly acquired assets would have a NBV that is either more or less than the fair market value. There is a business requirement that this difference in NBV and FMV has to be recorded and depreciated.
What are some available options? Can this difference be treated as an asset & assigned to the main asset as a child (subnumber)?

Our business wants to use asset sub-numbers to manage these step-ups/step-downs.
One oustanding requirement is that they want to see these step-up/step-down assets separately in the ledger. In other words, they want to have different APC and depreciation accounts than the ones on the main asset. Is this possible? I always thought that you cannot have a different account determination on the asset sub-number than the one on the main asset.
If having different accounts is not possible, is there any otherway they can differentiate these step-up/step-down assets in the ledger (balance sheet/P&L)?
