Creation of New Dimensions

Dear
I want to create new dimensions as I have only ASGRUN and ASGPTO_YTD in the balance dimension form
Secondly I want to store running balances of an element value start from employee joining date to end of service.

what is your legislation?
If there exists a localisation for your legislation, then you should have more then 2 balance dimensions.
If there is no localization, creating one (from ZZ) should you also give more then 2 dimensions. (see ML 261452.1)
So i'm surprised you do not have the ASGITD (Inception to date, which accumulates run results from the hire date on).
There is also a standard concurrent program to add extra dimensions, but i would first try to understand why the seeded ASGITD is not there.

Automatic creation of new dimension members

Hello all,
Bit of a long post so please bear with me.
I am about to embark on only my third BPC project after having spent several years implementing solutions using BusinessObjects Planning (formerly SRC software), and am still struggling to come up with an elegant solution to the fact that I cannot save data to dimension elements unless they are already explicitly defined in the dimension member list (presumably due to cube architecture).
Those of you who have used BOP/SRC will remember this as unvalidated dimensions.
I find having to first go to admin and pre create members before being able to use an input schedule to save data against them is very restrictive.
I'm hoping one of you guys can help me improve on the workaround I currently use.
For example I have a 'bid submission' input schedule that is used by the user to submit bids for increased budget, capital or revenue, capturing basic costs and commentary. The user selects a bid number from a combo box which is populated by using an EVLST formula to read in pre created dimension members. I have to save a flag to the db which I then use to exclude already used numbers when feeding the combo box on future submissions.
Which works ok but if I have a hierarchy on bid number based on say, cost centre, how do I get around the fact that number ranges have to be pre-assigned to cost centre, Cost Centre A = 1 to 1000, Cost Centre B = 1001 to 2000 etc. What happens if I go over the 1000 on Cost centre A? I then get non contiguous ranges per cost centre.
Is it possible for the bid number to be dictated by the user when they start to fill in the bid submission? Or give the impression that they are?
Or if the client has a bid number format that cannot be pre created? Eg incorporating things like year or person etc. This information could be save separately but not within the bid number. Is it possible to save data to dimension property columns from an input schedule?

GUI Performance/design of new Dimension()

My two fold question is performance/design relate.
When creating a GUI there seems to be a need for a lot of creation of Objects like
blahblah.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(500,500));
My first question is is there a hi performance cost if say in a particular GUI you do twenty different object creation of new Dimension
If so, what is the best way to handle that in desgin. Should one object be created, then just set the value on the one object and use that? I am sure there are multiple ways, but what is the best performance, and best design tactic to handle this.

ThanksFor the sake of exercise, you can reuse a dimension object. Methods like setPreferredSize copy data out of the Dimension rather than copying the reference itself, so there are no consistency issues here:

Error while creating a new Dimension/Model in BPC 10.0 NW

Hello Experts,
I am using BPC 10.0 NW system.
When I try to create new Dimensions or Models I get the following Error Message.
"Error in Admin module or a component used by Admin module.
Failed to create SAP NetWeaver BI InfoObject for dimension."
I am assigned to all the needed task profiles to create Dimensions and Models.
Please assist me to resolve this issue.

The error was coming because while creating the user id "SAP_ALL" Profile was not assigned. So I was not able to create Dimensions and models.
Now the issue is solved.

CUP - Issue regarding creation of New SAP ID in CUP.

System : SAP GRC 5.3 SP 12..
We have requirement where in we need to design a workflow for creation of New SAP ID.
The Naming convention followed for SAP ID is FIRST LETTER of FIRST NAME and LAST NAME with maximum 8 characters.
For Eg
JOHN SMITH would have SAP ID as JSMITH
JERRY SMITH would have SAP ID as JSMITH01
The requirement here is when user fill the REQUEST FORM for NEW User ID there is field where in the requestor need to put the desired SAP ID,
Can a validation be set OR Logic be written so that user can put the SAP ID as per the naming convention..?
Also , any other solution as to how the situtation can be handled in CUP...

Hi Ajit,
Yes, you can maintain the user ID in the Active Directory. User id will be now auto populated in the request form, from Active Directory when we data Source is LDAP -Actice directory. So when user login to end user form to create a request, It's all information( user details + manager details ) will fetched from Active Directory.
It is not possible to change userid in later stage of approval in the request.
You can have security as final stage and guide them to create user manually as per naming convention.

How to add a new dimension in ASO cube without losing all data

Hi,
I have an ASO cube with 18 dimensions and I want to add a new one (regular). When I add this new dimension it asked me that the all data has to cleared before the restructure can take place. If I click yes then I would lose all data regardless of the fact if I have a level0 export or not. Because when I tried to reload the export back into the cube it gave me an error cause all the dimensions were not present in the export. Does anyone know how would I be able to accomplish this task?

You can try this work around solution.
1) Export Lev0 data
2) Clear the cube
3) Add new dimension Regular.
4) Add a default member Reg00 in the new dimension and save.
5) Open the Lev0 data in a text editor, Insert "Reg00" in the begining of the file and Enter.
6) Lev0 file will have first record "Reg00" and the remaining export file will be from the second record.
7) Load the modified file with out rule file.
You can verify that all your history data will be loaded w.r.to the Reg00 of the New dimension Regular.

Adding a New Dimension to a CUBE

If I need to add a new dimension, SHOULD I RECREATE the cube entirely again??

Each cell in a cube is referenced by a dimension. Think of it as pointers to cells in a multi-dimensional array.
So when you add or remove a dimension, what should happen to all those cells.
In a way you are breaking the cube.
Since cube data is loaded from a table, you can always re-load your cube after adding or removing a dimension.
Dimensions are not added/removed frequently, once the design is finalized. You may add a new hierarchy to existing dimensions, which is done more frequently compared to adding a dimension. After adding a new hierarchy, you just have to re-aggregate cube data and not re-load from relational source.
Cubes are created for reporting, and can be deleted/recreated or truncated - monthly, quarterly or yearly - for various reasons.
Your source transactional detailed data should be in one (or more) fact tables and should never be deleted.
Is there any "operational" concern in a Production environment, because of which you are asking this question?
One trick could be: to create the new cube (with more dimensions or less dimensions than the original cube) and then COPY DATA from original cube into that new cube.
But it may take the same amount of time as re-loading the new cube from the relational source.

New Dimension to a Cube

Hi,
We've a cube already in production (with huge amount of data). Now we have to add few more 'new' characteristics to this cube.
My question is, can I create new Dimension and add characteristics to this without deleting data?
As the characteristics are new, we don't have to care about reloading the cube as data for these new characteristics don't exist.
Can it be done? Any thoughts?

If you had a new characteristic to an existing dimension you don't have to delete data. I already done that procedure many times.

Ok, so, in version BW3.X and BI7 you can add a new characteristic to an existing dimension, but you have more options in BI7. If you want to had a new dimension you have to delete all data.

EA-FIN New Depreciation - How to restrict creation of 'new intervals' ?

Hi Everyone,
We have turned on the EA-FIN Business Function Extension and are wondering if there is a way to restrict the creation of new intervals using company codes. We have three companies in our SAP system and want only one of them to be able to create new intervals. Is there a standard way to do this or only be development? All ideas are welcome!
So far we tried to search if there is an Authority Object, which could be used to apply this restriction with no luck. Could it be done using Validations?

why would you want this? intervals are just a technical item... so long as the numbers are correct and the calculation is logical to follow, why would you care?
you can probably achieve this by:
1 - immediately blocking every asset record so that no other postings can be made
2 - not allowing any time-dependent changes to occur. this might be possible via authorization or you could remove the time intervals button via a simple screen modification
but I don't understand why this is wanted.

Strategy 82----How to stop creation of New Production Order

My client is facing problem with the material which having Strategy 82- Assembly to Order, As when they make a sales order , w,.r.t that a Production order is made automatically by system,. User complete the production process and deliver this material , now when ever the Sales user change "Credit Block: in that particular sales order again a New production order created to this sales order, How to control his creation of new Production order? As if new production Order create it brakes the link between Sales order and the previous Production order which is already in delivered status.

I am closing this thread , as I know how to got a control on trhis, As of behaviour, startegy 82 says every time u change in sales order it will create a new Production order during saving, if the previous order is not been in ONLY REL status. So the only option to control this is in S.O ,change the Item category to "CN" i.e NO MRP when if required there has been any modification to S .O. In std SAP system item catageory has to be congiured , in SPRO SALES we can do the necessary settings.

How to approve creation of new identities

I have created an approval process for the creation of new identities based on the how-to-guide for role approvals.
My idea is to determine all approvers in a script which gets the entry reference as parameter from ToIdentityStore pass.
However, for some reason, the entry reference is empty.
Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

Hm, from what the error output message tells me it looks like MX_ENTRY_REFERENCE does not contain ANY value.
uErrMsg(1, "entry reference: " + entryReference); generates this output: 'entry reference: '
May this be due to the fact that this is a creation process and the identity to be created is not yet stored anywhere? If so, what would be the correct way to implement an approval process for identity creation?
In the destination tab, MX_PENDING_VALUE is defined, as in the how-to-guide manager approval example.

Create a new dimension in business layer from Data source: text file on the web

Hi,
I have a text data source which is published every few hours that is accessible from a certain URL. I follow the instruction given in this http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-43144 - where it shows in great detail how to create the connection, data foundation as well as business layer to create a universe for this type of data.
All is well - I can use this universe in my WEBI doc and display the data.
However, in order for me to merge the data from this universe with another universe, I need to create new dimension based on the data from the text file. The new dimension value is simply the first 4 characters of the Subject found in the text file. The "Subject" dimension is of variant type: varchar.
Following the guide mentioned earlier, the connection is using SAP BO OpenConnectivity driver. And this driver limits severely the SQL statement that I can use to extract a substring of another string. Here's the screenshot of the SQl expression that I can use with this driver
After hours of searching, I cannot find any other connection driver for a text file that's published on a certain URL. The BO OpenConnection driver is the best that I could find.
So here are my problems
1. one of my data source is a text file published on a web
2. the only connection I can create does not allow me to create new dimension in the universe to create an important column "subject ID"
3. I can create the column in webi as a variable. But when I do so, I cannot merge it with existing dimension (webi not allowing to merge these 2 types). And without the merge, the flat file universe with my database universe can't be combined.
I'm using WEBI Rich client version 4.1 SP3 Patch 1. Build 14.1.3.1300
Is there any other idea that you can suggest without requiring to change the extracted data?

There is not much detail in your log, but I suspect that your OLAP mappings are incomplete or the maintenance of your dimension to load the new attribute data somehow failed. I would check the OLAP AWM build logs for more information.

Problem while adding a new dimension in a existing cube with data in BW3.5

We are trying to create a new dimension with new characteristics in a existing cube. But while activating we are getting error that "InfoCube contains data; intentional changes not permitted". Can we add a new dimension in a existing cube with data in BW3.5? If it is not possible then we can take the backup and delete the data from cube and then change the cube. But my question is that, when we will transport the cube with changes to quality then will it transport successfully or same procedure needs to be done there as well.

Adding new infoobject /dimension to the cube containing data in 3.5 is not possible.
easier solution is create a new cube similar to old and add the new dimension and proceed.
else you have to drop data and transport.
