Creation of new storage pool on iomega ix12-300r failed

I have a LenovoEMC ix12-300r (iomega version).
IX12-300r serial number: 2JAA21000A
There is at present one storagepool (SP0) consisting of 8 drives (RAID5).
HDD 1-8 (existing SP0): ST31000520AS CC38
I have aquired 4 new Seagate ST3000DM001 drives as per recommendation on this forum:

I want to make a new storage pool with these 4 drives:
HDD9-12 (new HDD and SP1): ST3000DM001-1CH166 CC29
I have used diskpart to clean all 4 drives and the IX12-300r can see the drives just fine.
When I try to make a new storage pool, naming it SP1 as the only storage pool is named SP0, I get an error: "Storage Pool Creation Failed"
Please advise as to how I can get these drives up and running.

I have pulled the 8 hdd from storage pool 0.
Then I rebooted with the 4 new hdd in slot 9 - 12.
Result: http://device IP/manage/restart.html, with the message: Confirmation required. You must authorize overwrite existing data to start using this device. Are you sure you want to overwrite existing data?k [yes] / [no]
I then answer yes four times anticipating that each new drive needs an acceptance, but the dialog just keeps poping up...
Then I shut down the device and repositioned the 4 new drives to slot 1-4 - but the same thing happened...
Any suggestions?

    Hello all running DPM 2012. The environment was setup prior to my arrival and it was setup with 10 1.5TB storage pools.  I heard the thinking was this was the recommended size for storage pools.  Problem is now we are/have run out of disk space
    on those storage pools and jobs are failing with "DPM does not have sufficient storage space available on the recovery point volume to create new recovery points (ID 214)"
    I have created new 4 new storage pools of 10TB each and I want to know how I can migrate the protection group data to the new storage pools and have the protection group use the new storage pool moving forward.  I want to empty the smaller storage pools
    so I can kill them off and create larger storage pools.
    Unfortunately the GUI does not allow me to point to specific storage pools, it should, and I'm not familiar with DPM Shell commands.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    The following commands can be used with the ntdisk number as seen in either the get-DPMDISK output, the Windows Disk Management GUI or DPM Management - Disks GUI.  In my example disk-0 is the system/boot disk and not used by DPM storage pool.
    EXAMPLE These commands show the migrations going from NTDisk 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 to NTDisks 11,12,13,14 
    $source = get-dpmdisk -dpmserver DPM-SVR-NAME | where {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 -contains $_.ntdiskid}
    $source
    $destination = get-dpmdisk -dpmserver DPM-SVR-NAME | where {11,12,13,14  -contains $_.ntdiskid}
    $destination
    Once you are satisfied the outputs are what you want, then run the following to do the migration:

  • DPM 2010; migrated DPM protection group to new storage pool ; data on source disk is not expiring

    I am running DPM 2010 with 4 storage pool disks. 2 are iSCSI; 1 is SAS; the fourth, also iSCSI, was recently deployed to replace the SAS storage pool disk.
    (1) iSCSI
    (2) iSCSI
    (3) SAS - Source
    (4) iSCSI - Destination
    Initially we tried to migrate the entire data source (3) to the new iSCSI storage pool disk destination (4). This failed
    Set-ProtectionGroup: The allocation of disk space for storage pool volume failed because there is not enough unallocated disk space in the storage pool (ID: 358). (Sorry, I was not allowed to attach an image).
    We believe the source disk previously created dynamic links to the long-term retention device (tape) which resulted in exceeding the available space on the new destination iSCSI storage pool disk. The source storage pool disk was totaling ~2.5TB, but needed
    ~9TB for the destination.
    Instead I've tried to migrate the DPM protection group. The migration was successful. I followed the procedure outlined here
    "Microsoft DPM 2012 Sp1 – How To Migrate Data Source using MigrateDatasourceDataFromDPM by ICTtechie" (Sorry, I was not allowed to include a link).
    My understanding / expectation was that the data on the source disk would expire within 5 days (as this is our retention time set for disk replication); instead data started to expire from the other 2 iSCSI (1), (2) storage pool disks.
    What am I missing here?

    WMF 3.0 is incompatible with some Microsoft products including
    DPM 2010.
    Windows Management Framework 3.0 (WMF 3.0), which
    includes PowerShell 3.0, was made available Dec. 11 on Windows Update as an
    optional update but has since been pulled.

    As correctly mentioned storage bins never transported from one environment to other. You have to create through LS10 or LS01N.
    The bin structure can get transposted from one environment to other & then you can open the structure & create bins in numbers.The bin structure can be seen through LS10 & created through same transaction.

  • Setting Up Storage Pool - Invalid Parameter

    Hey all,
    I've run in to an issue when trying to create a Storage Pool in Windows Server 2012 R2. I have two 4TB drives and I'm trying to create a pool out of them (intent is to Mirror), but when I've gone through the pool creation wizard I simply get the following
    error:
    "Could not create storage pool. Invalid Parameter"
    Does anyone have any hints on where to start diagnosing this? Both drives are wiped, both drives can be pooled, and both have different uniqueIDs.

    Which type of the physical disks are added to the Storage Pool? Are the virtual hard drives (VHDs) created by Windows Azure? If so, the physical disk size advertised by Azure VHDs is not compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Spaces.

    If the Windws Server 2012 R2 is a virtual machine on Windows Azure, please also check if there is any error message in the Event Log.

    The Windows Server 2012 R2 is on my own physical server and isn't virtualized. I'm simply trying to create a new storage pool from two physical HDD:s, the disks are Seagate 4TB disks. Both the disks are listed in the storage pool creation wizard. I checked
    the Event Log also but there's nothing, the lack of proper error information is making this a bit challenging to figure out.
    I've also tried using PowerShell to do the work:
    New-StoragePool -FriendlyName POOL1 -StorageSubSystemFriendlyName (Get-StorageSubSystem).FriendlyName -PhysicalDisks (Get-PhysicalDisk -CanPool $true)
    The same error results:

  • Failover cluster storage pool cannot be added

    Hi.
    Environment: Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update.
    Storage: Dell MD3600F
    I created an LUN with 5GB space and map it to both node of this cluster. It can be seen on both side on Disk Management. I installed it as GPT based disk without any partition.
    The New Storage Pool wizard can be finished by selecting this disk without any error message, nor event logs.
    But after that, the pool will not be visible from Pools and the LUN will be gone from Disk Management. The LUN cannot be shown again even after rescanning.
    This can be repo many times.
    In the same environment, many LUNs work well in Storage - Disks. It just failed while acting as a pool.
    What's wrong here?

  • Adding lun to an existing storage pool

    i have problems to add a lun to an existing storage pool.
    The storage pool is data only type.
    The log file /var/run/xsancvupdatefsxsan.log indicates:

    Bitmap fragmentation: 1900004 chunks (0%)
    Bitmap fragmentation threshold exceeded. Aborting.
    Invalid argument
    Fatal: Failed to expand stripe group
    Check configuration and try again
    After run the defrag command to some folders the log indicates:
    Merging bitmap data (100%)
    Bitmap fragmentation: 1898528 chunks (0%)
    Bitmap fragmentation threshold exceeded. Aborting.

    Check configuration and try again
    Do i need to run a complete defrag ?
    Apple documentation indicates we need to delete the data before add the new LUN because there´s an issue. (is a very big issue!!!).

    Do you think, if i have < 60% used, the storage pool expansion will work?
    I prefer to add a lun to a storage pool instead to create a new storage pool, because adding a lun add bandwith too.

    We have a storage ix12-300r with no raid 1 option. This have only raid 0, 5, 6 and 10 options. The firmmare version is 4.0.20.33131.
    Please, it's possible to actived raid 1 option on this storage ?

    You should be able to create a new storage pool, with two drives in it, and set that storage pool to RAID 1.

  • 2012 New Cluster Adding A Storage Pool fails with Error Code 0x8007139F

    Trying to setup a brand new cluster (first node) on Server 2012. Hardware passes cluster validation tests and consists of a dell 2950 with an MD1000 JBOD enclosure configured with a bunch of 7.2K RPM SAS and 15k SAS Drives. There is no RAID card or any other
    storage fabric, just a SAS adapter and an external enclosure.
    I can create a regular storage pool just fine and access it with no issues on the same box when I don't add it to the cluster. However when I try to add it to the cluster I keep getting these errors on adding a disk:
    Error Code: 0x8007139F if I try to add a disk (The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation)
    When adding the Pool I get this error:
    Error Code 0x80070016 The Device Does not recognize the command
    Full Error on adding the pool
    Cluster resource 'Cluster Pool 1' of type 'Storage Pool' in clustered role 'b645f6ed-38e4-11e2-93f4-001517b8960b' failed. The error code was '0x16' ('The device does not recognize the command.').
    Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster
    Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.
    if I try to just add the raw disks to the storage -- without using a pool or anything - almost every one of them but one fails with incorrect function except for one (a 7.2K RPM SAS drive). I cannot see any difference between it and the other disks. Any
    ideas? The error codes aren't anything helpful. I would imagine there's something in the drive configuration or hardware I am missing here I just don't know what considering the validation is passing and I am meeting the listed prerequisites.
    If I can provide any more details that would assist please let me know. Kind of at a loss here.

    You mentioned you use Dell MD 1000 as storage, Dell MD 1000 is Direct Attached Storage (DAS)
    Windows Server cluster do support DAS storage, Failover clusters include improvements to the way the cluster communicates with storage, improving the performance of a storage area network (SAN) or direct attached storage (DAS).
    But the Raid controller PERC 5/6 in MD 1000 may not support cluster technology. I did find its official article, but I found its next generation MD 1200 use Raid controller PERC H 800 is still not support cluster technology.
    You may contact Dell to check that.

  • Represent existing Storage Repository to new server pool?

    I have a testing delima.. We have a block-storage SR that was in use on Server Pool A, but want to move it to Server Pool B. I dont see any way in the GUI to facilitate moving a SR (OCFS2) to a new Server pool.
    I know I can probably destroy, delete, unpresent and rebuild an empty SR on the new server pool but I dont see why moving it wouldnt be an option
    Any ideas?

    Forgot to clarify, we already represented the block storage to the new servers in Pool B, and they see them just fine.. The GUI simply doesnt show the new servers in Pool B in the "present storage repo" dialog.

  • DPM 2010 not recognizing space on new disk in storage pool

    We are running DPM 2010 and added one iSCSI drive with over 7 TB to the storage pool. When creating a new protection group, DPM throws the error "insufficient disk space". I'm new to DPM and none of my research has shown a reason for this error.
    Any help would be deeply appreciated.

    I think I have somewhat messed up my Server pool a bit, such as that there are some kind of network bridges in the server pool which I cannot get rid of, since OVMM insists that these have vnics associated to them, when none of my VMs had any nic configured.
    So, I guess my only option is to re-create the server pool entirely and migrating VMs between server pools doesn't seem to be possible. I was wondering, I if could at least keep the storage repositories and get away with only creating a new server pool and adding the VM servers to the new pool, but keeping the VM files in the repositories. This will likely make this transition much more smooth, than having to copy all the VMs from the repositories onto a temporary storage and back into the new storage repositories.

Check the network configuration of the templates installed into your repositories and change the bridges to real/proper ones. Once you've done that, you'll be able to delete the unusued bridges.

It's possible to change this, but you need to contact Oracle Support to do so. I'd recommend first trying to unmap the existing bridges as described above.

  • After upgrading to 8.1 Pro from 8.0 Pro, my Storage Spaces and Storage Pool are all gone.

    Under 8.0 I had three 4-terabyte drives set up as a Storage Pool in Storage Spaces.  I had five storage-space drives using this pool  I had
    been using them for months with no problems.  After upgrading to 8.1 ( which gave no errors ) the drives no longer exist.  Going into "Storage Spaces" in the control panel, I do not see my existing storage pool or storage drives. I'm prompted
    to create a new Pool and Storage Spaces.  If I click the "Create Pool" it does not list the three drives I used previously as available to add.
    Device Manager shows all three drives as present and OK.  
    Disk Management shows Disks 0,1,2,6.  The gap in between 2 and 6 is where the 3,4,5 storage spaces drives were.  
    Nothing helpful in the event log or the services.
    I've downloaded the ReclaiMe Storage Spaces recovery tool and it sees all of my logical drives with a "good" prognosis for recovery.  I've not gone down that road yet though because it requires separate physical drives to copy everything to
    and they want $299 for the privilege.
    Does anyone have any ideas?  I'm thinking of doing a fresh 8.1 install to another drive to see if it can see it or reinstalling 8.1 to the existing drive in the hope that it will just suddenly work.  Or possibly going back to 8.0.

  • Server 2012 R2 Storage Pool Disk Identification Method

    Hi all,
    I'm currently using Server 2012 R2 Essentials with a Storage Space consisting of 7 3TB disks. The disks are connected to an LSI MegaRAID controller which does not support JBOD so each disk is configured as a single disk RAID0. The disks are connected to
    the controller using SAS Breakout Cables (SATA to SFF-8087).
    I am considering moving my server into a new chassis. The new chassis has a SAS Backplane for drive attachment which means I would be re-cabling to use SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 cables instead and in doing so, the channel and port assignment on the LSI MegaRAID
    will change.
    I know that the LSI card will have no problem identifying the disk as the same disk when it's connected to a different port or channel on the controller, but is the same true for the Storage Space?
    How does Storage Spaces track the identity of the individual disks?
    Just to be clear, the hardware configuration otherwise will not be changing. Motherboard, CPU, RAID controller etc will all be the same, it will just be moving everything into a new chassis.

    If the disks are still recognized as the same, the storage space should be recognized as well.
    You could test to do the replacement and see if the storage pools are being recognized. If not you can still change them back with original devices and storage pools will back to work. Then we may need to find a way to migrate your data. Personally I think
    it will work directly. 
    Note: backup important files is always recommended.

    creation of new infotype we are using Transation code:PM01, when we enter this TS it displays differnt tabs like : Create infotype,infotype version, Screen structure..   presnt require ment is to enhance the one tab to that TS.(Ex: create the one custom infotype like Employee Details, when ever we press the Eployeedetails tab it displays the related field list). Pease  help me how to proceed this senario.

    Creating Infotypes for PA and PD using PM01.
    1. Infotypes should be started between 9000 – 9999
    2. Go to transaction code PM01.->select Create infotype
    3. Give the Infotype number on the screen 9010
    4. Click on the Button Generate Objects right to the Infotype input field.
    5. It asks for the Creation of the PS9010 structure for infotype. Create, save and activate and come back remaining things will be created automatically. Remaining things means Module pool program, User interface, BADI.
    6. Maintain infotype characteristics ex: Time constraints, Subtype, assigning single screen & list screen and save.
    7. Select Screen radio button and give 2000 on input field and press edit button .It takes you to the SE51 screen painter. Here we have to write logic for the validations for the fields on the Infotype screen.
    Creating subtypes for the infotype
    1. Create subtype field in the PS structure of the infotype table.
    2. Go to PM01 and press on technical attributes button and select infotype for which subtype should be maintained and display in change mode and enter Subtype field, T591A (Subtype table), T591T (Subtype text table), T591A (Time constraint table) tables and save and exit.
    3. Go to SM30 and enter V_T591A and press maintain. Enter subtype numbers and its text and save.
