Creation of users in MDM console

Hi MDMers,
I have a simple question here.
We create a user in MDM console at the Admin part of the repository which is a known fact to every one.
I have a list of 500 users (approximately) to be created in the MDM console.
By any chance is there any way that I can do mass create of the users or upload the users from a excel sheet.
Or doing one by one manually is the only option for it?
Please give your inputs.

Hi Sravan,
You are advised to use data sources like LDAP etc.
But if any case integration with LDAP not in the scope for different reason it's possible to create mass users in MDM.

Hi Sreenath,
There are couple of ways to accomplish this .
1) If you have IDM then you can push all the user ID's into the MDM system .
2) if you have direct DB access you can run some queries import the user roles and mapping directly .

Error in starting MDM Server from MDM Console

Hi,
I have installed SAP MDM 5.5 SP05 on Windows 2003 Server.
When i try to start the MDM Server (i.e. MDM Service) from the MDM console it gives me the following error:
Error Starting apmdmd(MDM Server): The machine 'apmdmd' is not Windows-based. The MDM server cannot be started from this application; please use CLIX on the machine instead. 
But if i start the MDM Service manually and then mount the server, it works fine.

It sounds to me like a problem potentially with either the permissions of the Windows user or perhaps a software firewall. The Console uses a low-level Windows API function to determine if the target machine on which MDS is installed is Windows-based. This function may be blocked by some OS or firewall-level setting. This may be the case even if you are able to use the same client machine to connect to the target machine via the Service Control Manager and start MDS from there.
I would like to help with this problem, but I need to know a few more things:
When the problem occurs, is the Console running on the same Windows machine as MDS?
You mentioned Windows 2003 Server... when you run the Console on this machine, are you logged in as an Administrator of the machine? And do you still get the error when you attempt to start MDS from within the Console?
Once MDS is started, and you mount it within the Console, are you having any other problems, such as logging in to a repository, or viewing logs?
Is there a firewall installed on the machine or machines that the software is installed on? We may have to review the settings of the firewall, or try temporarily disabling it (on both ends, or at least on the machine running MDS), to see if the problem goes away -- then we'll know the problem is with the firewall settings.
CLIX is a fine workaround if you can use it, but clearly this problem needs to be rectified.

Access Policy is not getting trigggered after creation of user through GTC

Hi,
I have an access policy for ALL USER role and that provision users to an RO after getting created in oim. I have a trusted source flat file reconciliation GTC for user creation. I am facing issue when user is getting created through GTC, access policy is not getting triggered. But while creating an user through web console the same access policy is working fine and user is getting provisioned with RO.
If anybody have any idea how to resolve this, please help me in this regards.

Hi ,
its good to know that its working. As per my experience it works for once (through reconciliation) but then stops working. Now to confirm try to revoke the user by changing the group member-ship through reconciliation and see if the resource is revoked or not (repeat it for 2 -3 times). Note that don't do it form within IDM web admin console, do it through reconciliation.

MDM console GUI on Windows is not mounting the MDM server on Solaris

Hello MDM experts,
This is kind of administrative problem. I am basis person, installing SAP MDM 5.5 SP04 for the first time.
I have configured the MDM server (mds) on solaris 10 system. I have also configured MDM import server(mdis) and Syndication serever (mdss) on the same machine. I have installed the database software and configured the empty repository on the same host machine.
So, Database and all the 3 MDM services (mds,mdis,mdss) are running on Solaris machine.
After that, I installed "MDM console fat client GUI" component on my desktop and trying to "mount the server" by specifying the "hostname" of the solaris machine where MDM services are running.
But I am not able to mount it...it says invalid server and does not mount.
Any idea what might be the problem ????

Hello Mark,
1. When I right click on the "SAP MDM servers" node in "Console Hierarchy" pane on the left hand side of the Console GUI, and select "Mount MDM Server..." option in context menu, I get a dialog box for entering my MDM server name.
I typed in the fully qualified host name of my solaris server where "mds-r" is running.
When I click "OK" button, it adds an entry in "Console Hierarchy" on left hand side, but the entry comes with "Yellow exclamation Mark" sign. Also it says Status "Invalid" when I see the "MDM servers" section on right hand side top.
When I right click on my newly created entry of MDM server, all the options on context menu like "Mount Repository, Create Repository, Connect to MDM server" look greyed out. Only the option of "Unmount MDM server" seems to be enabled
2. I tried to do the same thing on 2 different Windows machines and got the same output.

Log File Error when open MDS_Log from MDM Console

Hi Experts,
I am facing a problem when I tried to open MDS_Log file from MDM Console. The error message was showing as below:
Log File Error
Problems in the log file prevent Console from displaying its contents. To view log contents, open the log file in a seperate text editor.
Could any of you advise me how to open the log in a seperate text editor from MDM console ?

How to handle authorization assignment in MDM console

How can we assign authorization based on different users role? Is there a function in MDM console? Thanks!

Here I am giving you a small pratice case study to get clear picture of user authentication in MDM
Case:
Table A has five fields F1,F2,F3,F4,F5
User X, User Y, User Z are three MDM user with different roles.
Objective:
User X should have read/write access to all the fields in Table A.
User Y should have only read access to all the fields in Table A.
User Z should have read access to F1,F2 and read/write access to F3,F4,F5 of Table A.
Steps:
1. Create a role named For User X. Got to Tables and Fields tab, select Read/Write radio button for Table A.
2. Create user User X assign the role For User X to the user.
3. Create a role named For User Y. Got to Tables and Fields tab, select Read-Only radio button for Table A.
4. Create user User Y assign the role For User Y to the user.
5. Create a role named For User Z. Got to Tables and Fields tab, select Read-Only radio button for fields F1,F2, select Read/Write radio buttons for fields F3,F4,F5.
6. Create user User Z assign the role For User Z to the user.
7. Also go to Functions tab, set the permissions like create, delete to the roles.
Testing:
1. Login to Data Mgr as User X, now you can
2. Login to Data Mgr as User Y, now you can only read the data. If you try adding/updating/deleting any data it will throw warning message.
3. Login to Data Mgr as User Z, now you can edit fields F1,F2 but when try to edit F3 or F4 or F5, system will throw warning message.
Creating Masks and assigning to a role:
1. Login to Data manager as Admin.
2. Create a mask in the mask table.
3. Go to main table, right click on the record(s) and add them to the mask. Or do free form search based on hierarchy and add the records to the mask.
4. Go to Console->Admin->Roles table->select a role say For User X -> tables and fields tab->drill down to mask table->select the mask from constraints field.
Testing:
1. Login to data mgr as User X.
2. Now you can see the masked records only.
3) Is this action of authorization assignment a little bit same with what we usually do in SAP R/3?

Change the field details in MDM Console

Hi All
I have unloaded repository and try to change the fields details ,like changing the display fields option as yes or no. in MDM Console .
But it is not allowing me to do so and giving error message as "field name already exists"
But when I go and change the user defined field it allows me to do so.
Same is the case with Table details
Can you guide me on this.

Hi Suds,
If you are using the same and the latest MDM patch for both your original and the Test repository, it should behave in same way.
But you mentioned that for test repository, you are not facing any problem.
Try out these steps to debug your original repository:
1. Check your original repository for any errors and also if found any, then repair it.
2. Also try to archive your original repository and then unarchive it with a different name. ( And check whether it is still behaving the same).
3. You can also try creating a duplicate repository and test it.
4. Unload and Re-load (with updated Indices) your original rep and test it.
I hope any of the above steps helps.

MDM Console Downward compatibility

Hi Friends.
We recently installed hot fix(5.5.64.95) for our Dev MDM System.
We installed corresponding MDM Console as well.
Through this new console we are able to access only the patched system. we are unable to access remaining MDM servers(MDM Qa and MDM Prd) which are in old versions 5.5.62.63.
its giving error "File failed crc check" due to different version.
We are in test face of validating patched systems. It will take some time to patch remaining systems as equal to Dev system.
Is there a way user can access both system with single new Console?
or user need to install required console whenever they accessing different versions of MDM server ?
Please assist what can be done for this issue.

Hi,
You can achieve this using Masks.
Step 1:
In the Data Manager , you filter records based on what ever condition you are looking for. Add the filtered records to a Mask.
If you have no masks defined in the Data Manager.
Select Masks table from the top left corner list in the Data Manager and create a Mask.
Once you finished creating the Mask, go back to the Main table and add the Filtered records to the created mask.
(Select all the records right click and select Add to Mask and select the Mask).
Step 2:
a. For New Role:
1. In the MDM Console for that particular repository, create a new role and in the role details grid, select Table/Fields tab and look for Masks table. In the Constraints column, you select the Mask you created in the Data Manager.
2. Assign the created role to the user.
b. For Existing Role:
In MDM console select the role in the repository and
in the role details grid, select Table/Fields tab and look for Masks table. In the Constraints column, you select the Mask you created in the Data Manager.

MDM console - basic query

Hi All
I am new to MDM and have been asked to have a conceptual overview of MDM. I have a ABAP and XI backround.
Can you please let me know what does it mean by MDM console. Is it a GUI that developer interacts with ? Please correct me if I am wrong.
Please note that I don't have MDM server installed so can you please guide me about concepts. If you have some links to refer please let me know.

Yes, MDM Console is a GUI but it is used for administration purpose in short. Using MDM console you can define or change the structure of repositories in which master data is going to be stored, can define user and roles for restricting users to see records, can define remote systems to or from which data is coming or going to be supplied by MDM etc.

MDM Console Problem

Dear Gurus,
We have upgraded our MDM 5.5 SP06 Server to MDM 7.1 SP03. All the applications (MDS, MDIS, MDSS) are now running on the same solarix sparc box. We are able to start and stop these applications by command sapcontrol on the server. We have also installed the new MDM console 7.1 on a seperate windows machine.
But when we connect from MDM console and try to mount the MDM server, its get mounted and shows the status stopped, even though the server is running.
When we try to start the server from console, it asks for the user id and the password. We tried giving all the user ids and passwords includint <sid>adm. But it gives error saying "Call to SAPWebServiceStartInstance failed with error: Invalid Credentials".
Please help...

While connecting MDM server does we required to provide system numbers as we have three numbers 40, 42, 44 for MDS. MDIS and MDSS?
I tried to connect the MDS server with address hostname 40 but then also same problem.

Can someone answer this question.
I have MDM 7.1 SP05 (MDS, MDSS, MDI) running on a SUSE 10 server. I also have Oracle 10.2.0.4 running on the same box.
On my windows laptop (Win XP sp3), I have installed the MDM Console 7.1.05.88) and I am able to mount the server which MDM is running. I can also go to the http port for MDM and start the admin console / snap in tool to see the MDM instances running.
However, when on my laptop, I can not create a repository / connect to the database. I have not been able to - ever. Though I did not find any information in the MDM install guide or the MDM Console guide, SAP says that I need to install the Oracle client on my laptop.
I have completed this; I am able to connect to the database on the MDM server (via sqlplus from windows). I have tried to use the system/manager userID to try to create the repository in the console.

Iu2019m not clear on the last statement u2013 WHICH Oracle libraries? On the MDM Server that is housing the Oracle database?
On the laptop which is trying to connect to MDM (which I am leaning towards).
As a note: I did follow SAP note 1250319 and used InfoMds scripts for validation. As far as I can tell, the params and checks passed. I ran the script as MDM OS user ID and the Oracle OS user ID with the u201C u2013ou201D option for the database connections.

As a note, I am using u2018system/masteru2019 and an MDM user I created in Oracle. With both users, I can access the database from the different laptops or on the server itself via the sqlplus command. According to the Install Guide for the MDM Server and the Console Guide, it starts by saying that you need to use SYSTEM or some similar user to begin.
Not sure what you mean on point 5 (also check Path). What path are you referring to?

Port 21 is turned off and Iu2019m not sure why you would need that; I AM able to telnet to the MDM server ports and get a connection.
Few things:
        If SAP is saying that you need to install Oracle client on my laptop, is this something that any of you were told to do?
        What libraries would I need (or, the MDM server running the database) that are not being recognized when connecting?
        Is there a way to test using CLIX (Win 32)?

Creation of user mysites under different managed paths

Hi,
Regarding creation of user Mysites, can two users have different mysites under two different managed paths?
The scenario for my case is like this:
I've a SharePoint 2013 farm attached to a domain contosso.com. Under that AD, I've created two different OUs (Organizational Units), say org1.local and org2.local. Two users are created under the OUs, the usernames being [email protected] and [email protected]
In my SharePoint 2013 farm I've created a Web Application, say SharePoint - 80, to host the MySite Host Site Collections. I've also created two managed paths under SharePoint - 80, say, /personal and /sites.
Now I want to create two user mysites, for the users created above. My question is that can we form the urls for the user mysites as below:
http://HostSiteCollection1/personal/user1_org1_local (for user1 of OU org1.local) and
http://HostSiteCollection2/sites/user1_org2_local (for user1 of OU org2.local)
Please suggest as we are totally stuck.

According to your post, my understanding is that you wants to create different MySites under different managed paths.
We can create different managed paths for different MySites for UPA in partitioned mode.
Harbar has written a good blog about creating the MySite host using that same multi-tenant setup.

Specifically, you use Set-SPSiteSubscriptionConfig to point to a particular OU for user accounts.
Next, you create a site using New-SPSite bound to that subscription for your MySite Host (e.g. New-SPSite

And finally you connect to the UPA Proxy that you previously created in partitioned mode to synchronize users with that particular subscription using Add-SPSiteSubscriptionProfileConfig -ID <Subscription ID> -SynchronizationOU CustomerA -MySiteHostLocation

SRM MDM Installation error :MDM Console Install.exe-Bad Image

Hi,
I have installed SRM 5.5 and need to install SRM MDM, but when i am trying to execute MDMConsole Install from GUI _CLIENTS folder getting below error.
:MDM Console Install.exe-Bad Image
The application or DLL C :\windows\~GLC0000.TMP is not a valid windows Image, Please check this against your installation deskette
I tried to execute other installables also getting same error
Please advice is something is missing
