Creative Alchemy new card?

I have some problems with alchemy and my xtreme music card.
Is there a new card available for Vista that works fine with DirectSound3D without Alchemy?

Perhaps...

"Known issue that Creative soundcards cause bad performance for this game. Not our problem! Creative should stop screwing around for once and produce proper drivers."
I believe that Creative have some bad drivers that need fixing!
I'm finished with Creative products!

    Hello,
if there are different versions from Creative ALchemy
In the forums i found somthing about
    - ALchemy for Audigy,
    - ALchemy X-FI Editon
and on the Creative Download Page i found "Creative ALchemy .20.04". Also on my driver CD was an ALchemy X-FI Editon.
Whats the different between this versions and what the different to "Creative ALchemy .20.04" (all in one)
Maybee ALchemy for Audigy and ALchemy X-FI Editon are older version and now are only on version for all cards
    Regards, Henry

    Hi,
Previously Creative maintained a version of ALchemy for the Audigy and X-Fi's as seperate applications.
Acouple of weeks/months ago, Creative announced that as of .20.04, all Audigy and X-Fi's would be supported by the one application.
Just download and install the version you have found on the Creative Download Page.
    Andrew.

  • Creative ALchemy Guide and FAQ

    Hi everyone,?
I have decided to include this for the benefit of those who are new.
    Creative ALchemy
al-che-my [al-kuh-mee] ~ any magical power or process of transmuting a common substance, usually of little value, into a substance of great value. - Dictionary.com
In Windows Vista, Microsoft has decided to remove the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for DirectSound and DirectSound3D. The HAL is the software layer that on previous Windows Operating Systems enabled an audio accelerator such as the SB X-Fi, to provide DirectSound3D applications with hardware accelerated audio. This enabled soundcards to perform tasks such as sample-rate conversion, mixing, 3D spatialization using HRTFs, filtering, and effects processing. Without the HAL, DirectSound on Windows Vista will be rendered in software on all sound cards with no advanced functionality such as EAX.
The good news is that Creative ALchemy allows you to run your favorite DirectSound3D games on Windows Vista as the developers intended - with advanced 3D Audio processing and EAX support!
NOTE: All Sound Blaster X-Fi and most Sound Blaster Audigy series of cards include ?nati've? OpenAL support. This means that most games that use the OpenAL Audio library will not be affected by the changes in Windows Vista. OpenAL support is available in many modern PC games including Battlefield 242, Doom3, Quake 4, and Prey.

    Creative ALchemy .25.0
    Filesize : 8.2 MB
    Release date : 20 Mar 09
    Previous announcement:
Starting from 6 May 2008, the Creative Alchemy (for Audigy products) is available for FREE. No purchase is necessary to use this software. Original post.
    Operation
When launched, the Creative ALchemy application will search the system for supported DirectSound3D enabled games. All the games found will be listed in the left pane (titled "Installed Games"). The right pane (titled "ALchemy-enabled Games?) will show any games which have already been converted to use ALchemy.
To enable ALchemy support for a particular game, select it from the left panel, and press the >> button. To undo ALchemy support, select the game from the right panel and press the << button. You can select multiple games at once and then use the directional arrow buttons to update them all.
    Adding / Editing Games
The following sections contain information about how you can upgrade games to use Creative ALchemy technology. This is intended for users who are comfortable navigating the Windows File System or using the Windows Registry to retrieve information.
If you want to test out a favourite game that is not currently supported, then please read the following information.
NOTE: Games can use the DirectSound3D library in radically different ways, so not all of them will work with Creative ALchemy. A list of officially and unofficially supported games, including the appropriate settings (see below) can be found on http://connect.creativelabs.com/alchemy/default.aspx. Users are encouraged to share their experiences (and ALchemy settings) by contributing to the Games list.
Pressing the ?Add? button brings up the Game Settings dialogue box requesting information about the title you wish to add. Pressing the Edit button with a game selected brings up the same dialogue box filled with the current settings so they can be altered.
    Game Title
Type in the name of the game you wish to add, as you want it to appear in the ALchemy application.
    Location
The ALchemy application needs to know where to find the installed game. This can be done by providing the full directory path to the installation folder, or, by looking up the installation folder in the Windows Registry. As most games add a key to the Windows Registry indicating where the game has been installed, this option enables ALchemy to find games on any user?s machine. The alternati've, a hard-coded directory path, is specific to each user because most games allow the user to specify a custom directory into which the game is installed. Finding a Registry Key can be tricky and is only recommend for advanced users familiar with tools such as regedit.
To enter a registry key select the ?Use Registry Path? button. Enter the full path and registry key name that stores the string containing the game?s installation folder. E.g. Call Of Duty stores this information in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Call Of Duty\InstallPath
To provide a game?s installation folder select the ?Use Game Path? button. Enter the full path (including dri've letter) to the game?s installation folder. E.g. If Call Of Duty was installed in a Games directory on dri've C, you should enter c:\Games\Call of Duty
The purpose of providing this information is so that the Creative ALchemy application can copy a couple of files to the game?s installation folder. These two files must be copied to the same folder as the game?s executable. In some cases the game?s main executable is not stored in the game installation folder, but one of its sub-directories. If this is the situation then enter the sub-directory name in the ?Install into Sub Folder? edit box. E.g. Serious Sam Second Encounter stores the game executable in a sub-directory called ?bin? so this should be entered here.
In some even rarer cases, a game may require that the two ALchemy files are copied into two locations ? the game installation folder, and a sub-directory. (This can happen if the game has a configuration application in one folder and the game in another). To copy the files to both locations, tick the ?Install into both Root and Sub Folder? check box.
When you close the dialogue box, the application will verify the location settings and display an error message if a registry path is not found or a directory path doesn?t exist.
    Settings
To upgrade a legacy DirectSound3D based game to use Creative ALchemy involves copying a couple of files to the same directory as the game's executable. The first file is called dsound.dll and does the work necessary to re-enable 3D audio and EAX, the other file, dsound.ini, contains configuration options that affect how the audio will be rendered. The variables in the dsound.ini are controlled by the following options in the dialogue box: -
'Buffers' is used to set the number of audio buffers used internally. The default value of 4 should be fine for most applications.
'Duration' is used to set the length in milliseconds of each of the audio buffers. The default value is 25ms.
The total duration of the audio queue used internally is equal to Buffers * Duration (i.e. 00ms by default). Experimenting with Duration values may be necessary in order to find the best performance vs. quality trade-off for each game. In addition, some games require smaller values than the default of 25ms because they use very small DirectSound Buffers for streaming, or they require faster playback position updates. Reducing the ?Duration? value can prevent audio glitches, pops and clicks.
However, lower values mean that there is more chance of the audio breaking up during CPU intensi've moments (e.g. lots of disc access during level loading). The recommended approach is to try the default settings, and if audio artifacts are regularly heard then try lowering Duration by 5ms and trying again. If the problem still occurs try dropping the value by another 5ms and so on (minimum allowed value is 5ms).
'Maximum Voice Count' is used to set the maximum number of hardware voices that will be used by ALchemy. The number of voices used will be the lesser of, the hardware voice count limit and this setting. The default is 28 which is the highest number of voices available on SB X-Fi cards. By lowering this value, hardware voices can be reserved for another application to use, or, to improve performance by streaming less audio channels.
'Disable Direct Music' is used to disable DirectMusic support. The default is false (unchecked), meaning DirectMusic support is enabled. At this time no known problems have been caused by combining ALchemy with games, such as TRON 2.0, that use DirectMusic.

  • My Past, Present & Future with Creative Sound Blaster cards

I wrote a small product review of a Z-series card i regrettably purchased and creative responded. I replied to them and copied+pasted it here. First and foremost please understand this is just an open letter talking about my love for and mostly positive experiences with the Sound Blaster line of cards since the mid-late 1990s.
Attached is an annotated picture of almost all the Creative hardware I've bought over the years.
Take a good long look at that picture. Think about how many songs have been played through those devices, think of how many movies have been heard through those devices, think of how many games made me jump out of my seat from sound effects heard through those devices, and lastly think how many thousands of hours this amounts to.
STOP READING and LOOK at that attached PICTURE.
I use the word 'almost' because it does not include the card I recently purchased off e-bay, which was listed as (and was) mint condition new, and cost me $250.... a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series card.
If the direction Creative is going to continue to go is the direction that it's been going over the past handful of years this will be the last Creative product myself or anyone i influence or make purchasing decisions for will ever buy. Being in my mid 30s I'd say you'll miss out on at least another 20-30+ years of future product purchases.
Below is my address of your reply to my review of your product in a piece by piece layout:
"Based on user feedback we've done the following:
    - Take up less disk space"
I run two 128GB SSDs in a hardware based (LSI Logic 8704ELP) raid-0 array so the disk footprint of drivers and software is important to me but whatever space you reduced your driver to is trivial.
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Creative\(ALchemy, AudioCS AutoMode Switcher, Console Launcher, Shared Files, ShareDLL,THX Console, Volume Panel)
in total take up about 100MB of space. reducing this means NOTHING because it does not allow for more hefty software (Games or Design/Drafting/3D-Modelling Software) to be installed. Now if say your driver and software had a 1GB footprint and you reduced it to 500MB that would be significant because 500MB is enough space to account for one or 2 of average installation footprints of the products in the Adobe Creative Suite. Reducing the size from 100MB to 25MB/50MB/75MB is moot.
"- Optimized controls for touch screens"
This point is amusing, why? because you are making the same mistake Microsoft made with Windows 8 & Metro. Most people who buy a creative sound card are putting it in a PC and do not have a touchscreen. I don't manage a lot of computers but the ~200 i am responsible for bypassed Windows 8 (maybe even Windows 9, we'll see) and either moved from Windows XP to Windows 7 or they will be staying with Windows 7 for the foreseeable future. The touch centric design of Windows 8 is a significant part of this decision despite all the things Microsoft did that i think are steps forward (like better native support for multiple display devices to name one example).
"- Streamlined the interface so it's easier to navigate (removed "modes" and have all controls available regardless what you want to use the card for)."
Dumbing-down a product to reach a greater audience is walking the fine line of Quality vs. Quantity. Why you've sacrificed significant Quality to increase Quantity i do not know. While I will agree making 1 interface instead of 3 can be a potential step forward you did more than streamlining the user interface- you removed prominent, useful, and important features.
"- Better tie in with the Windows audio sub-system."
Through out the decade the only problems I experienced with Windows and my Creative products i can count on one hand. The first would be when Microsoft abandoned DirectSound and moved to an UAA based audio stack in Vista forward and your company dropped the ball and Daniel_K picked it up and made working drivers for your products and you went after him... I was one of the people who used his working drivers to make your sound card work properly when you failed to do so. Second was the fact that you people charged for ALchemy when the move to Vista occurred... this was truly a sh*ty thing to do. The third was the X-RAM causing a BSOD (STOP 0x50 - PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) in windows on a regular random basis because of your device drivers and the best working solution was to disable using the X-RAM on the card- a selling point of the cards to begin with (albeit in years prior).
Allow me to elaborate some more while I have time since it's sunday night and the family is busy with other things and will be off to bed thereafter.
Creative's device drivers and software has always been a point of contention. You don't make the install discs available for download on your website for starters. This is a fascist move on your part. Your driver installation procedure and reliability is hit or miss. I personally have not had a lot of trouble with the drivers (only a few hiccups here and there) but i have read on the forums where all sorts of other people have (I'm not in disagreeing that their problems are partially their fault, but that's the price of running Windows instead of buying a Mac). My experience with your driver software suites over the years have been mostly (A) "When it works as expected it's sheer aural bliss beyond that of any other sound card in existence! THIS is why 'Sound Blaster Compatible' was what other companies put on their products, because Creative set the standard for everyone else to meet." but also sometimes (B) "everything installed and worked fine but now something is corrupt and not all the speakers have sound coming from them or the sound is all screwed up and the driver won't uninstall/reinstall/update correctly because it's corrupt and it's not deleting the driver files because windows has the files locked and safe mode isn't helping so now i have to physically remove the card from the PC and try to completely clean out my system of the Creative software. I can't believe they went after Daniel_K the way they did, i wish he'd come back and fix their drivers. Now which box did i put that install cd in...."
There are 2 reasons I've bought Creative sound cards for over a decade now. CMSS 3D when listening to music while working throughout the day and EAX in videogames at night.
I remember the moment when I experienced EAX for the very first time. I was in college and over at a friend's place. He had just got a new game called Thief: The Dark Project. I remember him telling me about something new called EAX and that only Creative cards had it and that it was supposed to be awesome. About an hour later after watching and HEARING him play Thief I was hooked. Creative had secured a place for it's hardware in my budget for every PC i built from that day forward.
Being that I've worked from home for about a decade now I will listen to music while I work and get in an hour or so of gaming at night as time allows. Straight off the bat the first time i ticked that box for CMSS 3D long long ago and heard music coming from every speaker in my home office i was amazed and overwhelmed. Then when you introduced the ability to set the individual speaker distance and volume from the listening position it was the icing on the cake. I was surround by sound. It was SHEER AURAL BLISS. This feature called CMSS 3D would become the second reason I purchased and recommended Creative sound cards for the decade to come.
As i stated in my review, the only reason i bought a new sound card was because the motherboard I was purchasing had no PCI slots (I remember when motherboards stopped having ISA slots as well...). Before making my purchase I read. I read a lot. I read about the changes you made with the X-Fi Titanium HD and then the Recon3D, and the more i read the more a feeling of apprehension began to take hold. Then i got to reading about the Z-series and read about some of the positive changes between it and the Recon3D line of cards and I became a bit more hopeful.
Sadly my apprehension was spot on... Listening to music was a worse experience when compared to my X-Fi Platinum (or even my old Audigy 2)... and did not even come close to justifying the purchase of the card compared to just using the integrated sound capabilities of my motherboard, an ASRock Z87 OC Formula/ac. But none the less I still had EAX to fall back on right? wrong... I installed a couple games, some new and some old, some with EAX and some without, and for about 2 weeks i played a bit of each one to see how the card handled new and old games. Sadly EAX compatibility didn't even matter because it was overshadowed by poor directional audio reproduction... that same front center speaker that was overbearing when listening to music was noticeable when gaming to the point that it was negatively affecting my gaming experience. I tweaked and toggled every setting i could and even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and software to try to mitigate this but to my dismay i could not. It was at this point I went weighing my options... and looking for an X-Fi Titanium (NON-HD!) and suffered the capitalist price gouging that occurs in such supply & demand situations... at least i talked the guy down from his original asking price of $300. I bit the bullet on this because chances are this is going to be the last Creative card i ever own...
I've had my Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series installed for just over a week now. Everything sounds precise and as it should when you have a quality piece of hardware paired with quality software. Directional audio in games comes from all speakers appropriately and not excessively from the front center speaker unless it's supposed to. Ambient music floats through the air all through out the day creating that familiar feeling of sheer aural bliss as it did before. The only downside is I'm getting to experience the problems other people have with this card (strange loud static-like warble EMI type noise coming from speakers, unaffected by windows volume control) but I have found a work around that I'm using on the rare occasion this happens (disable the device in device manager, re-enable device in device manager).
Chances are what i've written above is perhaps an opening soliloquy of the requiem for the Creative Sound Blaster, the card that defined an industry and the company that turned it's back on it. I don't expect anything to come from this letter and I don't expect a meaningful reply from you. You'll probably write me justifying your decisions you've made with your product line and offer some false sincerity about how you are happy i am enjoying my price-gouged discontinued soundcard i had to buy off e-bay because your current line of products are not a step back in your eyes because of the profits they turn. This generation of customers who buy your Platinum HD, or Reco3D or Z-series line of cards probably oblivious to what they are missing out on (through no fault of their own), funny how the bliss of ignorance works and lines your pockets...
It saddens me that i had to buy a discontinued product off e-bay because it's a better product than what your company currently offers. I wish this wasn't the way things turned out. When you dropped the fun presets and finite control of the EAX effects during the transition from the Audigy to the X-Fi line of cards I noticed but since they were not the main reason I owned a Creative card I tolerated it. But now you've gone and ruined the features that were the reasons i bought Creative cards, and this I will not oblige.
    My Creative Hardware.jpg

    @To the OP:
I own a X-Fi Elite Pro for the past 8 years now.
Since there, this card has faithfullly seen me through 3 major PC upgrades.
I'm currently at a point where, very sadly, much of what you've described is also weighing on my decision to not go for a Z line.
    @Creative:
I do hope you're listening and can come up with a solution to a simply design feature - namely a fully working Stereo Surround, like the one that was available in the X-Fi line of cards via CMSS-3D.

  • Sound delay in Call of Duty 2 with Creative Alchemy

    Hey!
I get sound lag with Windows 7 (64 bit ultimate) when I play Call of Duty 2 like the animation come first then the sound get in after. It's really annoying. This only happen with windows 7. I've got windows xp too and everything is fine but I want it to work well on my windows 7. I have another sound card (Realtek integrated) and there everything is fine on Windows 7. It doesn't work properly only with Windows 7 + 3d sound in game. My friend have 'Creative Tactic 3d Alpha + included sound card + the same options as I (3d sound in game, windows 7 + creative alchemy' and he doesn't have any problem with this **** delay in game. Any solutions? Thanks you in advance!

    Hi
In Audio MIDI Setup, change Properties For to Built-in Output. It will then change from Output Not Supported to Input Not Supported & the Output bit will become active.
Another way of restoring sounds is to open GarageBand, play a few notes on the screen keyboard, then quit GarageBand.

  • Creative Alchemy & Windows 7

Creative Alchemy was a great innovation for putting DirectSound3D back into games that ran on Windows Vista & putting the EAX effects back in many games like Unreal Tournament 999, Deus Ex, Half-Life & a slew of other games.
Unfortunately, Creative Alchemy is failing in Windows 7 with many games whereas it worked in Vista. This is NOT a complaint-type post, but rather a plea for the Mods & Devs at Creative to please address these issues in a timely manner.
Windows 7 is a better operating system than Vista, so I think it's a worthwhile endeavor, as there are more people that play these older games, that are migrating to Windows 7, than one might care to believe. I'm one of them. Please don't be decei'ved, this is NOT a small group of people/gamers.
I know that there are individuals out there that will say "Windows 7 is nothing more than the same pile of road apples as Vista, with a different swarm of bugs crawling all over it"? -- and to a degree-- you are right ( no hardware abstraction layer reimplemented -- they should have-- they did dress up OpenGL graphics rendering ). But Windows 7 is still a better OS that Vista -- hands down.
As I said before Windows 7 is worth the endeavor, as is a lot of these older games. Especially Unreal Tournament 999, as even 0 years later after its release, it still is regarded as the best game in the Unreal series by a great many and the on-line player numbers prove it. I've purchased and played all the Unreal Series games and played them extensi'vely & I can tell you, for a fact, that running Unreal Tournament 999 on XP with EAX effects, on an X-fi Extreme music card, the sound displacement was far superior than any of the other Unreal series games. It's not even remotely close. Creative Alchemy had carried this great sound in Unreal Tournament 999 over to Vista, now lets take it to the next level and get it carried over to Windows 7.
Also there are thousands of players & servers running Half-Life & its many mods ( Counter-Strike, anyone? ) and it may pertain to Half-Life 2 as well.
And BTW, Ive tried a multitude of different drivers & alchemy releases & Daniel K's driver packages. Sorry, but these don't get DirectSound3D to work in Windows 7.
So, I'm coming here & BEGGING, PLEADING -- PLEASE address this issue in a timely manner.

$ I'm pretty sure Microsoft revamped some of the Audio stuff after so many people complained about the way it was changed in Vista. I have been playing my older games and have not even reinstalled Alchemy, they seem OK to me. Was getting nice surround sound in Unreal Tournamnet last night when I tired it out.

  • Alchemy TV card G4/G5 Edition

    Hello all,
I'm a little confused (and maybe a bit slow! LOL!). I just got a new G5 dual 2 and my PCI cards from my G4 won't fit. No suprise, but the Miglia Alchemy TV card said it was a G4/G5 Edition...Did the very first G5s have compatible PCI ports? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance

The new dual core G5's use PCI Express which is not compatible with PCI or PCI-X. Unfortunately the cards from your G4 will not work in your new G5.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite: New Choices for Customers

Adobe has announced the new Cloud-based model for software distribution, along with new terms for boxed product upgrade eligibility. Beginning with the CS6 releases, when they happen, upgrade pricing on boxed products will only be availble one generation back. There is a limited window to upgrade now to the current versions at a discount.
    See http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/adobe-creative-cloud-and-adobe-creative-suite -new-choices-for-customers.html

    Eugene:
Based on the current information we have (from the blog post), which may not be correct and which you should not rely upon:
There is some confusion about the word "discount." As used in the blog post, in general there are no "discounts" for upgrades, there is the upgrade price and there is full price. But, also in the blog post, there is a special "discount upgrade" if you choose to upgrade to CS5.5 today (prior to Dec. 31, 2011), which is 20% off the regular upgrade. However, Peter used the word "discount" to distinguish between upgrade pricing and full price. It's probably a good idea to avoid using that word there because of the potential for confusion.
I have CS5 InDesign in work. So I will be able to upgrade that to CS6 when it comes out at the discount price?
You will be able to upgrade to CS6 at upgrade pricing. Not the 20% discount, but it is "discounted" from the full price of CS6.
I'm still using CS2 Illustrator and Photoshop, for the little work I do in those programs, they're fine. But if I want to upgrade them to CS6 I have to pay the full amount of an upgrade, with no discount... or will I have to pay for CS6 in full for both of these programs?
You will have to pay the full price (not the "full amount of an upgrade," whatever that means).
If you elect to upgrade to CS5.5 prior to Dec. 31 of this year, however, then then you can pay the discounted upgrade price to upgrade to CS5.5 (well, CS5 since Photoshop CS5.5 doesn't exist), and then you can pay the CS6 upgrade price in March/April. So you can pay for no upgrades (full price) or two upgrades (one of which is 20% off).
At the moment I can upgrade CS2, photoshop and Illustrator for €240 each, to CS5. So wouldn't I just be able to do that now and then buy the CS6 upgrade at a much later date perhaps just before CS7 comes out?
    Yes, you can do that.
If CS6 has the tools to basically go "File>Export>Epub" and I get a fully working epub file without having to trash about in code afterwards or make complex tagging in InDesign, then I'll be buying it.
It looks like EPUB is evolving pretty fast, so even if ID CS6 fully supports what you want out of EPUB on Day 1, I bet you'll need to be prepared to postprocess it on Day 2. Or at least long before Day 200.

  • How do I remove a credit/debit card from my account? I ask because I currently have a VISA gift/debit card with 50 dollars on it, but the money has run out so I want to usea new card. Also, there is no 'None' check option for payment type on my account.

Depending on how you created your account, "None" may or may not be an option. I believe it has something to do with whether the account was made through an App Store request or the regular iTunes Store. For example, my account allows no card but my father's doesn't allow there to be no card.
To change the card, go to your account settings and change the information to your new card, and hit save.

  • I have a problem with a previous purchase and sign in is required. However, the card is no longer in use and so no money can be billed from it. I need to add a new card so that the money can be taken from that card instead. It's from a different country

I have an Australian card associated with itunes and the App Store. However, I am no longer in Australia and I wish to change my country of residence and card to the UK/English. When I try to change country, it says there's a problem with a previous purchase, meaning I have no money on the Australian card and therefore the previous purchase cannot be billed.
The only way I can pay for the previous purchase is by adding an English card but it won't let me do this.
Does this mean I have to somehow put money on the old Australian card to pay for the previous purchase? Or is there a way I can transfer the bill to an English new card?
    Cheers guys

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

  • Macbook pro fails to read sd card with movies recorded on it, any ideas? I can view them in the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it.

My macbook pro is failing to read a new sd card with movies recorded on it. Any ideas please? A previously used SD card has downloaded without problems. I have tried using a card reader as well as downloading from the video camera itself, neither works.
I can view the latest recordings on the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it but didn't think of that at the time. Obviously don't want to do this now as it will wipe the movies.
