"Creative Cloud.exe" disk churning

I just installed CC today to try out PhotoShop.  The install ended hours ago and I've run PS since then.
Now I'm noticing a lot of disk chattering on my Windows 7 box and looking through the Windows Task Manager I found CreativeCloud.exe chewing up Disk IO.  I'm not even currently running PhotoShop.
What is it doing???   It says PS is up to date, I don't have anything selected for syncing and Sync files to Creative Cloud is off.  Although I notice now in the preferences it has my home directory selected for syncing.
Killing it stopped the disk churning.
Rich

....further analysis may be needed on my part.  I'm realizing the I/O reads/writes columns in the task manager are cumulative, not recent samples.  So the high numbers could be from much earlier.

  • Creative cloud.exe and legacy fullscreen applications

I've noticed that there are problems on my system (Win8.1, nVidia GTX660) and legacy fullscreen applications (games).
This only affects some applications. It runs, then loses focus. When I try to activate the main window it immediately loses focus (again).
The workaround for me was to kill creative cloud.exe. I originally wanted to submit a bug report but got here
One application that behaves like this is Deus Ex: Invisible War.

I can’t get the widget browser to connect and I can’t sign in within the program.

I spent upwards of two hours trying to sort this last night and none of the advice on the forums got me there so I gave up and decided to just buy it and download it from the web.

  • Captivate no longer in Creative Cloud? Disk install not launching...

I have been using Captivate as part of Creative Cloud, which I have a subscription to. Today, when I went to launch it, it was no longer part of Creative Cloud. So that's one problem, I don't know where it went. When I tried to launch it, I just got an error message of a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it and an OK button. When the OK button is clicked, the launch quits.
I have an install disk copy of Captivate 6, so I installed it from the disk (twice actually). When I try to launch it from the installed app on my computer I still get the same error message with a yellow triangle and an exclamation point and an OK button. When the OK button is clicked, the app launch quits. So I am not sure where to go from here.
I am on an iMac running Mavericks, (OS 10.9).
    Thanks for any help.
    Mitch

And just for other users: Captivate has never been in the Creative Cloud at all, and is not for the moment. This means that even though you have a subscription to the CC, you will still have to buy another subscription for Captivate.
Wanted to make this clear, because some users could be confused.

  • Creative Cloud core hangs on startup

Frequently, when I start my computer Creative Cloud will hang and leave a small blank box designated 'Core' in the top left corner of the desktop.
It won't close by hitting the cross, nor right clicking on the Taskbar icon and selecting 'Close Creative Cloud', so I have to resort to the Task Manager.
It doesn't stop me from using the programs and I can immediately restart the Cloud, so it is a minor annoyance more than anything.
There doesn't seem to be any mention of this here, or anywhere else, so I'm hoping someone might offer a solution.
    For the technical:

Thanks for the quick response but, forgive my ignorance, would you be able to point me to the properties you mean?

I would assume that if I unticked that box my issue would disappear, but what other effects does this have?

  • Black screen in Creative Cloud app 1.8.0.447 on Windows 7

    Hi!
After updating the Creative Cloud application to the latest version (1.8.0.447), I have a blank black screen in the Home tab of the application. The Apps, Resources and Behance tabs work as they should.
Also, I noticed that playing any one of the "What's new" videos that pop up when starting an installed application (e.g. InDesign) gives blank screen. I can hear the sound of video, but there is no movie or playing controls whatsoever.
Everything was fine prior to the update. I have not made any other updates in between the two Creative Cloud versions (no Windows Update, no new graphics drivers). I am using Windows 7 Enterprise on HP Zbook 14 with dual graphics (Intel/AMD).
UPDATE:  As i keep working, I discover more parts of the application suite that look similary (blank/black). Here's the new Adobe Color panel in InDesign.

    Hello,
I had a simillar issue using my Notebook (Samsung Series 7 NP770Z7E-S04DE with Core i7 (3rd Gen) and a second graphics adapter (AMD Radeon HD 8870M). After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 i had really a lot of trouble because the OS update brought new drivers for both graphics adapters which obviously did not work together. I had to reverse the update because the notebook was not showing anything but the mouse cursor. Windows 8 had some other anoying bugs so I decided to ignore the warnings of my IT-Partner and Samsung and do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro. Since then I had the problem you, jacobwod, describe but I did not care because neither I used the Cloud-Space nor there were fonts available. Today I read your post and experimented with the settings. By accident I found out that enforcing the usage of the Intel-Chip (HD 4400 I think) for not only the creative cloud.exe but also a file called "adobe cef helper.exe" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\hex\" seems to be a solution. Thanks jacobwod for getting me on the right track.

  • Creative cloud is blank window why?

Windows 7 64 bit computer. Creative cloud informs me of updates, but on launch nothing appears but a blank window. Header creative cloud and the gear appear. The only options listed with the gear are; help, pin to window area, and quit creative cloud. Removing creative cloud and re-installing fails to fix the problem of a blank window. Cannot update any product using creative cloud, cannot see any thing in cloud window. No way to sign in or out, just quit. Problem for three days now and no support available to fix problem. This means paying for subscription, but not getting access or updates at this point. I feel a bit cheated paying for something, I am not getting!

For me, there is a display driver issue.  I have an all black screen (instead of all white) in Creative Cloud every time it updates
I fix it by running Creative Cloud in 256 colors once, installing updates, closing Creative Cloud and then running as normal.
    Short hand:
    Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\Creative Cloud.exe >
Properties > Compatibility > Check "Run in 256" > Run CC > Finish install > Close > Uncheck "Run in 256" > Run CC.
    Step-by-step:
Close all Adobe products (kill them in task manager)
    Right Click C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\Creative Cloud.exe
    Select "Properties"
    Select "Compatibility" tab
Under "Settings," check "Run in 256 colors"
    Apply
    Run C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\Creative Cloud.exe
You should be able to see all the options now, complete the update, then close Creative Cloud
Close all Adobe products (kill them in task manager)
    Right Click C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\Creative Cloud.exe
    Select "Properties"
    Select "Compatibility" tab
Under "Settings," uncheck "Run in 256 colors"
    Apply
    Run C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\Creative Cloud.exe

  • Creative Cloud is Black Screen

I just installed creative cloud on my new laptop. Windows 8,1 All I get is a black screen. The blue circle loads for a second but then it's just black see screen shot
I have CC on another pc on same network with no issues I know it's not a firewall issue.
    I have tried to
    reinstall
    adobe cleaner tool
deleting oobe file/ folder in both the app data folder and the common files folder
    rename oobe file/ folder

I had the same problem. HP Zbook 14 with fresh Windows 8.1 Update 1. This laptop has a switchable/hybrid graphics card with Intel HD 4400 and AMD Fire Pro M4100 chipsets. Tried latest drivers from HP as well as from Intel and AMD without sucess. The problem seems to be related to the switching/power management features. As a workaround, setting "Creative Cloud.exe" and "Adobe CEF Helper.exe" to use "Power Saving" graphics settings in the AMD CCC made the application work (no black/black window).
A post in another forum suggested using the modified drivers "Leshcat Catalyst UnifL" from leshcatlabs.net - Keeping it Simple. Ads free. After installing these drivers (Leshcat’s Catalyst 14.12 Omega UnifL) all Adobe applications are working flawlessly!
(Note: Delete any switchable graphics application settings and go with the defaults).
So to summarize this seems like a driver problem rather that an Adobe issue. Before updating I had problems with hardware accelerated gui in Spotify as well (also black screen). This issue was also solved with Leshcat

  • Photoshop CC installation hung at "Waiting..." in Creative Cloud window.

    2013-06-17
Downloaded and installed new version of Adobe Application Manager which magically turned into the new Creative Cloud window. Found the Photoshop CC entry and clicked "Install" after which the download took lots of minutes and then switched to an "Extracting Photoshop CC" message which took more minutes. Okay, now it's saying "Installing Photoshop CC." After a few minutes, seems stuck at 70%. After a few more minutes, it's still stuck at 70%.
Clicked the "x" button to stop the installation and waited for the "Install" button reappear. I pressed "Install" again and got the messages "Installing Photoshop CC" followed by "Extracting Photoshop CC" which is still on the screen. Down where the "Install" button was appeared the message "Extracting..." but that soon changed to "Waiting...". After 10 minutes of "Waiting...", I clicked the "x" next to the "waiting" message to cancel the "Photoshop CC" installation. The "Install" button returned almost immediately.
I went to the https://creative.adobe.com site then to the Download Center. I clicked on the "Photoshop" icon and then on the "Download" button on the "Photoshop CC" page. That action fired up the Creative Cloud app on my machine and the download started again. The first message is "Installing Photoshop CC" and the percentage value is increasing (good)! There's a little progress bar in the Creative Cloud window. The display changed from "Installing Photoshop CC (49%)" to "Extracting Photoshop CC..." and where the progress bar was in now the word "Extracting...". After a couple of minutes (maybe 3 or 4), the word "Extracting..." turned into "Waiting...". I think I hate this. The legend at the top of the Creative Cloud window still reads "Extracting Photoshop CC...". After 10-11 minutes, the message "Waiting..." is still there. Someone suggested "close your browser" to get the ball rolling again, so I closed Chrome at 11:47 PM. I still have the "Waiting..." message. I'm going to click "x" and try again. Did so at 11:48 PM. After taking a break (time now 11:59 PM), message is "Extracting..." but at 12:00 midnight the message changed to "Waiting...". What the heck is it waiting for? Behavior is identical to when browser was running. Now it's 12:12 AM and still "Waiting...". I suppose it'll be like this until morning. Maybe I should kill all other processes. Did so but no help. Now it's 12:55 AM and still "Waiting...".
I have PS CS6 and LR5 installed (but neither running) on my Windows 7 64-bit 16GB machine. I'm running Webroot Secure Anywhere.
What next steps should I take to get past this Ps CC installation blockage?
    Update 1:36 AM
It's now 1:36 AM and I still have the "Waiting..." message.
There are four copies of "Adobe CEF Helper.exe *32" running and one copy of "CEPServiceManager.exe *32" (a.k.a., "Adobe CEP Service Manager"). Also, one copy each of "Creative Cloud Helper.exe *32" and "Creative Cloud.exe *32" are running.
    Thanks,

    2013-06-18 6:30 AM
Thank you, Arpit. With your help I seem to be up and running with Photoshop CC.
    I did these things:
Manually killed all Adobe processes including a "setup.exe" I had not noticed before.
Used Add/Remove programs to remove the Creative Cloud app and a partially installed version of Adobe Photoshop CC.
    Restarted computer
Renamed the two OOBE directories you specified.
I ran AdobeCreativeCloudCleaner.exe as admin but elected to exit when I saw that I'd have to remove Ps CS6 as well as CC.
    Restarted computer, again.
Downloaded and ran CreativeCloudSet-Up.exe then signed in and navigated to the "Apps" panel.
Clicked "Install" next to the Photoshop CC icon at 5:58 AM; the installation completed at 6:12 AM with an "up to date" message near the Photoshop CC icon.
I quickly tested both Ps CS6 and Ps CC to see that both would run -- they both did run.
In LR5 I noticed that the "Edit In > Adobe Photoshop CS6" has been replaced by "Edit In > Adobe Photoshop CC"
When I attempted to open an image in Ps CC via LR5, I was told to "Update Adobe Camera Raw" so I opened Ps CC manually, checked for updates -- there were three total including ACR, Ps CC itself, and one other which I think was "something something Extensions"
Restarted computer, again (following advice from updater mentioned above) after which Ps CC seems to work well with LR5.
Deleted the two renamed OOBE directories (step 4 above) after verifying new OOBE directories had been created.
My only problem now is figuring out how to get Ps CC to see my third-party filters (e.g., NIK, Topaz, Redfield). I'll probably just have to reinstall them all.
I supposed I can uninstall Ps CS6 without affecting Ps CC, right?
    Thanks again for your help,

  • Creative Cloud for Desktop app Launch at login (solved)

I’ve had an issue with Creative Cloud for Desktop app (using Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64) – regardless of what has been set on my Preferences > General Tab > Launch at login, my app didn’t start at logon (system startup).
    I’ve tried:
uncheck the ‘Launch at login’ option (Preferences > General Tab). Restart PC. Launch the CC app, check ‘Launch at login’. Restart. Didn’t help.
uncheck the ‘Launch at login’ option (Preferences > General Tab). Restart PC. Remove the startup Key from registry stored under: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]. Restart. Launch the CC app, check ‘Launch at login’. Restart. Didn’t help.
reinstall Creative Cloud for desktop app. Didn’t help.
rename the OPM.db file (as described here: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/apps-panel-reflect-creative-cloud.html). Didn’t help.
Finally - since the CC app is actually and x86 application - I’ve moved the startup entry from the x64 Run Key [Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] into the common x86 [Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run].
    Simply:
    a. Remove:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "Adobe Creative Cloud"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Adobe\\Adobe Creative Cloud\\ACC\\Creative Cloud.exe\" --showwindow=false --onOSstartup=true"
    a. Create:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "Adobe Creative Cloud"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Adobe\\Adobe Creative Cloud\\ACC\\Creative Cloud.exe\" --showwindow=false --onOSstartup=true"
And you know what? it woooorks!!! Now my app starts with windows!
I'm sharing this in case someone else has run into the same problem.

Originally received an update for the desktop app, which failed to install
Tried repeatedly (including turning off firewall) but no luck
Uninstalled the desktop app - after following a link in one of the forums
downloaded the new desktop app - installed - perfect
Other application updates installed perfectly, including the big update for Muse to 64 bit
Most recent update for desktop app failed to install, so tried the above, removed the desktop app, but cannot now find the link to the new version to download.
